I dont want Glenn fired but I hate hearing people compare us to the lions with campbell a couple years ago. The roster Glenn inherited is(was) significantly more talented than the roster Campbell inherited
We all knew this
I can accept rookie coaching mistakes, but I need to see them corrected.
I think this is the right decision, I know glenn hasn’t been perfect but I think he deserves another go-around with a QB that’s not inept, and one more year to get the guys he wants in FA and the draft. There’s at least progress with less penalties in the last couple weeks.
I do however think wilks should be on thin ice, he and fields have been the disappointing parts of this year imo
Nor should he. This team was a mess. Notice how all the leaks and BS have stopped.
Exactly the kind of statement that a team with no idea how to vision-set or communicate to people (inside or outsize the building) has to distribute via the press.
This is like knowing Gase/Wilson wasn’t the guy and not ripping off the bandaid until it’s too late. Gase should’ve been fired after going 0-4 against winless teams and Wilson should’ve been cut after the first Mike white game.
I understand it being rash to fire a coach after one year but I’m worried about it being a eberflus situation with Caleb where by week 5 it’s clear the coach is not the guy and you hurt a rookie qb development with a lame duck
Expected. Especially after the trades so I can’t fault this. Can only see one of two scenarios though that come:
1. Things work out. Jets playoff drought ends. Everyone is happy.
2. The relationship between Woody and the Jets FO to the media/fanbase *will* become more combative and aggressive as we’ve already been seeing. Can’t say anything else to this scenario other than I’d be so damn grateful that I don’t work for the New York Jets.
Mougey and Glenn, and ESPECIALLY Woody, need to hit on the picks. 16+ years without a playoff berth in fucking Jersey/NYC… its embarrassing how fans will still spend time seeing the Jets over doing anything else that is offered. It’s “fix this… or else.”
The second part of this quote screams to me they’ve been given direction to get that draft pick
Yeah, no shit. What a waste of time.
It seems like woody and glen have a close relationship from his playing days. Gotta give the man time to build a team in his vision.
What a slap in the face. Tank or not, if the team is embarrassing every week and always looks outcoached, you can’t just give a mulligan.
You can’t fire a 1st year HC with a 1st year GM unless there’s a major scandal or total break with his superiors or the players.
That has not happened.
And you absolutely need to give any new HC, especially a first time HC, when you’re completely rebuilding, into his 3rd season before you can really make a full assessment.
To be clear though, Glenn has shown you nothing as far as being a HC.
Nothing.
But he needs time. As does his GM.
They’re trying to change a culture that’s done nothing but lose for basically 15 years.
All while working for an owner that is among the worst in the league.
Mougey has shown you with some moves and decisions he’s made that he might actually know what he’s doing, has a plan, and most importantly, a way he can execute that plan.
But despite not having a QB, Glenn did not come into the season with a roster that should be 1-7 through 8 games.
He was given talent.
He hasn’t won games.
So we will see because they’re both getting the opportunity for a few years.
He shouldn’t be really evaluated until the 2028 season. To be honest. A little consistency would be good
Already figured that one out. Otherwise they wouldn’t have allowed them to be traded away. Only thing we can do, is hope they make good picks.
Anyone who thought this was possible had to realize Woody wouldn’t let this regime make those trades this week if he wasn’t going to retain them. I don’t think there was much Glenn could do to get fired anyway but that had to prove it.
Yeah we’ll see about that
Glenn has been an absolute failure. However he needs to have a chance to go the rest of the season.
I also feel like the team is starting to turn the corner. Less penalties of late is the first sign of progress I am seeing. Imagine if Glenn ends up being the one getting this mess fixed. That would be incredible for his Jets legacy.
I‘m not a huge fan of Glenn, I actually trust the new GM more. So, if next season Glenn is terrible again, I hope he will make the call not Woody.
Aaron Glenn made a big and bold decision. He could have probably kept Rodgers and won more games this season, but he is not as worried about wins and losses this year as he is about building a culture. To become successful he needs to have everyone on the roster totally bought in. When everyone knows their job and executes they will win games. Granted winning games sure helps more than anything so next year he needs to start doing that and once he does they just need to get better and better each year
I think the ONLY way he would have been fired is if they actually went winless.
You can’t judge a coach on record under these circumstances, even before the trades happened. Getting rid of a guy in one year because of a bad record would send a terrible signal to the entire coaching market after the fact. “You have one year to get this questionable roster winning often” who would want the job under that unreasonable standard?
Now, going winless? That’s a BIT different, then you start to question how competent the coach is. You should be able sneak a win out SOMEWHERE if you’re worth any salt.
But we’re past that now. Mulligan.
Can’t fire him after a year, but he doesn’t seem to have the chops to be a head coach
He’s not being fired for the same reason Saleh wasn’t fired at the end of the 2023 season. Saleh got a mulligan bc Rodgers went down the first game. Glenn is probably being given grace to try with a real QB before talks of failure are valid.
I don’t agree with it but I get it. Give him a chance to prove what he’s talking
With all the cap space they’ve created and the draft picks they have, it does feel like this coaching staff has the confidence of the owner to go for at least 3 years of rebuilding before they have to show results.
This is one of the reasons why I think they’ll go after a QB this draft instead of next. If they want to show something, it starts at QB. I don’t expect a rookie to get us to the playoffs, but if they can rebuild the defense to be better, I think any QB worth a damn could at least get us a Wild Card spot.
The main thing I want to see from Glenn is accountability on the defensive side of the ball. The defense has been ass all season. If they don’t fire Wilks, ill be disappointed.
Low # of penalties/ low # of stupid mistakes in recent weeks + bengals game has me slightly hopefully. Also seen some decent development rookies. Needs to be much better down the stretch but he should probably get another year (and with the contract he has, he more than likely will)
Tanking needs to continue until the 2027 firsts have been spent. Dont want them to draft a qb next year either if the qb class is weak otherwise its back to square one.
Two of them
Shouldn’t be surprising. He HAS to be there to traumatize a high draft pick QB, then get fired, then an offensive head coach to save us who THEN is also dogshit. Its the jets cycle.
