The San Antonio Spurs defeated the New Orleans Pelicans, 126–119.

De’Aaron Fox, making his season debut, scored 24 points along with 3 rebounds and 3 assists, including a clutch floater with 29 seconds left to push the lead to five. Victor Wembanyama dominated the glass with 18 points, 18 rebounds, and 3 blocks, while Stephon Castle dished out a career-high 14 assists to go with 14 points.

For the Pelicans, Trey Murphy III exploded for 41 points, hitting five three-pointers, and added 9 rebounds and 3 assists—marking his fourth career 40-point game. Rookie Jeremiah Fears contributed 18 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists.

With the win, the Spurs improve to 7–2 on the season, while the Pelicans fall to 2–7.

  1. This is what the spurs really needed, a bucket getter on the clutch, a clutch player of the year. The only downside is it might hinder the development of harper which is playing really good basketball, hope they make this work.

  2. C'mon Fox. You were supposed to resume the PG position and get Castle going. Castle played more 1 than he did, and had all the assists.

  3. I think the Spurs did the smart thing. With Fox on the team it's going to be very hard for Castle and Harper to qualify for the supermax rookie extinction. Thus they have a player that can help them win now and keep Harper and Castle contacts reasonable in few years time.

  4. Spurs = Talent and youth. Pop accomplished his mission and passed the torch. It’s up to Mitch and his staff to finally deliver hardware at the end of this or next season.

  5. Trade him?? Yall are INSANE!! The Spurs haven’t won anything so why TF would you intentionally start depleting a group that has potential but hasn’t won yet.D Fox firmly places them neck and neck with the Thunder in the west
