Rirruto?
Holy Cow!!
Strong as a fucking bull, handsome like George Raft
So we know that as far as skill goes Ted Williams is the greatest pure hitter to ever play. However do you think with his eyes and hand eye coordination that he was like god tier level of fighter pilot?
I’m Phil Rizzuto for the Money Store…
“Lew Brissie was shot up in WWII, had a bad leg & wore a protector over his shin. Phil Rizzuto still bunted on him, & Brissie would throw at Rizzuto because of this. He went after Phil, threw at his head. He felt that this was taking advantage of a wounded veteran. He was one guy we all knew not to bunt against.” Charlie Silvera
Lou Brissie went through a total of 23 operations & 40 blood transfusions on the road to recovery from WWII injuries suffered in artillery attack in the Apennine Mountains in northern Italy. His leg was broken in 30 places. “Our unit suffered over 90 percent casualties”
Jon Bernthal
*Sigh. Closes app. Goes to the gym.*
Holy Cow!
My grandfather had contracts with the detroit tigers minor league system before getting drafted into WWII. My mom said they kept him out of combat to play baseball in hawaii. Not sure how much of thats true but he blew out his arm before they had TJS so thats was his baseball career. I wonder how many greats were lost due to WWII
I lived one block away from Phil Rizzotto’s grandchildren growing up in NJ who I went to school with for a bit. Awesome guy.
“Serving” indeed…
Looks like the Bear Jew.
If you can, find Yankees broadcasts from the ’80s when Rizzuto would talk to Billy Martin during the game. Some of the most hilarious “I know these guys are drinking on the air” broadcasts ever.
For anyone who likes a mix of history and sports, a great book to read is The Mosquito Bowl.
About all the famous college football players who got drafted for WWII and ended up playing a game in the South Pacific while waiting for their assignments to Iwo Jima etc.
Currently in the stages for a movie as well (pre production).
