Brodie’s Breakdown at WPG (11/7)
Brody Brazil with Drew Menda here at the tank following a wait a second 2-1 Sharks win over the Winnipeg Jets. That’s what I said. That’s what’s just happened. And Drew, I feel like I know the Sharks are getting good because I’m getting greedy. I’m done with moral victories tonight. They were close down the stretch. They found the way to win this game. They did so many things right. That second period was probably the best second period we’ve seen the San Jose Sharks play in years. They were relentless. They kept going in on the forche. They created chance after chance. The Delkovich when pressed made save after save. And then in the third period, and we’ve seen this so many times. Y uh the let down. Yeah. Right. There was no let down. They And they there were so many key moments in that third period. But the big thing is for the San Jose Sharks, I thought they got that power play opportunity. Yep. You thought, okay, here it is. But then they don’t score on it. But it didn’t matter. They kept going. They kept pressing. But at the end, okay, listen, it’s the Winnipeg Jets. They bring a lot of pressure. They bring a lot of heat at the net. Alexandovich was absolutely fantastic. And the guys, you know, the term selling out gets used all the time, but the boys sold out. They sold out at the net. It was a really good win. And you know, Broy, yeah, we’re getting greedy now, which is what we’re supposed to do. This feels like the old days. The old days. Tonight, the tank went crazy. Loudest I’ve heard it at the end of this game. And the Sharks holding off Winnipeg was like a sigh of relief, too. They’re chanting defense. And so there’s a lot of great things about this game, but the overall aspect of this game is this team was on their toes from the getgo. They got their feet moving. They got in the for check and then when you look at the way the game went again, we got to talk about these two young guys. I’ve heard of them that that that make noise outside our office before the game and are really irritating. They’re teenagers. We’ll give them a break. Well, Mlin Celibbrraini when he scores the goal is the NHL’s points leader, right? So, let’s talk about what actually happened before he scores the goal. It gets popped in the mouth, toe of his stick hits him, loses part of a tooth, gets a little little chip there. So, Sharks go on the power play. First off, for him to be upset and sell that penalty was necessary. And now he’s a hockey player, by the way, because he’s missing a little bit of a tooth. But he comes out there on the power play and he gets that opportunity oneon basically one-on-one, but also really twoon-one. He was being defended, but he beats Connor Hllabuk. Yeah, with the backhand. Just an unbelievable effort in play. He made Connor Hellabuk look normal on that play first of all on that. Great job in front blocking that play to Fully releases. Yep. And then once that puck hits the Sharks and it starts to go to towards tofully, Mlin’s gone. He’s gone. He’s gone. And Morsy, who is no slouch, is is tracking him back. Can’t can’t stop it. And then just before he gets to the net, he sells a shot. He drops to the shoulder. That makes Hella go down and go for the poke and then he goes wide and beats him easily. It literally happened right here. I thought, uh-oh, he’s not going to get a shot off or he’s going to backhand it and hit the side of the cage, right? Buries it. That’s Melbourne. Chip to goal. And it’s the giant to, you know, the opposition to everybody else. And that was again another moment where you just go, okay, what’s next for this guy? What’s next for Mlin Celerrini where and I know I’m getting excited. I’m getting excited again about it. But when you keep watching this young man at 19 years old, I know you just go, okay, let’s keep going. This is a lot of fun. The guys he’s up there in points with, McDavid and Eel and Mlin now at top that NHL points list for right now. We’ll see how Bard got four points tonight. So, it’s a 19-year-old and a 20-year-old. There you go. Crazy. And speaking of 20-year-olds, Will Smith. Yeah. Well, the game-winning goal. Uh, the will to win. I I know that’s catching, but like literally the way he scored on that play. And also, I think the team’s effort, the will to win this game. Again, it’s not about the moral victory. Oh, we played well against the Jets. It was we found a way to beat the Winnipeg Jets. It’s only their second road loss of the season. Yeah. So, on that play, couple things. Ty to Foley changes. Yeah. Kurv comes out. Kurichev, by the way, another guy. What a great signing that has been. We talked about him before. He’s still on fire. Yeah, he’s still on fire. He jumps in. He does a great job of holding on the puck, comes back, and then kicks it back near side. But when Will Reeds off of that play, when Kurt Chev starts to get to about here, Will Reeds, he’s out on the boards, Will Reeds, and he’s driving towards the net. Jeff Almer said before the third period, got to get guys to the net when you’re playing against a goalie as good as hell. Yeah. Drives to the net and chips it over to Min. And it’s a wonderful save by Hellabuk to stop Mlin from getting his second. But what does Will do? Does Will doesn’t take a a little figure skating turn in the corner. He stops, stays there, bang. Basic hockey. Drive the net, get the shot, get the rebound and it worked. So, you know, last last game against Seattle there was Maka was number one star, Will was number two star, Ascariff was number three star. Kind of the same formula tonight. Exactly. Exactly. And Smitty and Mac. But it’s it’s amazing. And I I said to Danny Rzinowski because I was doing that audio network with him. Said in the future and as we roll on these next this next little while, how often are we going to say say that? Yeah. Mlin, will asky or Ned or whoever’s in that it’s been it’s these last this last week has been fun. Like something has been different here, right? That was kind of one of the last things I wanted to get to. I don’t know if we can declare a turning point yet. I don’t know if we can declare things different. No, but we are seeing some different things in a much better way. It’s it’s um a belief system. Y and Tom Mlullen used to talk about this all the time. A belief system so important. Danny Bole talks about belief system because you believed and relied on each other with confidence. I I if we’re playing together, I know you’re going to do the right things in order to help our team win. And I’m going to try to do the right things in order to help our team win. But we’re going to work together. I’m going to believe in you and you’re going to believe in me and we’re going to believe in the guys across the across the room. Asked Alex Wenberg last game in Seattle, Alex, what are you seeing with the team? And he goes, “We believe we’re a good team, right? We believe in each other. We believe that if we do the right things, we are going to be a good team, a winning team.” And basically Will said, I asked Will, I said, you know, say, “What does this say about what are you thinking about your team now?” Because I’m getting goosebumps. Yeah. Add tonight to the equation of of why they all believe. Yeah. Hey, um, now that we’re co-workers, really, like I work for the team and and I can call HR on something. Do we need to talk to them about Ryan Reeves, he seems to be, uh, really going after you on the bench. You’re getting showers every pregame. I am, but you know what? It’s working. And, uh, if you want to bring up Ryan Reeves to HR, you go right ahead. I’m out of that conversation allgether. I used to take that kind of stuff. I’m surprised they do it, too. But I I know it’s all love and respect. I was disappointed when he came out to talk me into the first thing he had a shirt on, though. for Tara. For Tara, he has no shirt on. I thought that was his new thing. Tarps off. Uh great game here tonight at the tank and we’re back at it tomorrow. Drew, thank you. Love it.

I said last year that this team would make Wld Card 2 this year. Now I think they can get even further, 3rd in the Pacific seems within reach.
I'm just happy to live at the same time as Mack 🦈🫂
Huge W over the Jets ✈️. Good job boys 👏🏼👏🏼.
Let's Go Sharks 🦈.
What a win!
Here for the “2 or fewer”
Celebrini will bring sharks their first Stanley cup this team reminds me of Crosby and Malkin we have the making of a team who could be very dominating for a LONG TIME
Believe
Next captain will be mack
Brodie is a pro. I’m a new fan because I moved a 15 minute walk away, the tremendous future and the energetic media coverage!
🙌
They’ve been playing great since Book of Mormon and Judijupiter
This city is extremely lucky to have these young bucks, we are witnessing something great here. #THEPRESENTISTEAL
Feeling like the early 2010s vibes
It’s been a lot of bad Years. Doug Wilson’s contracts are almost completely off the books except salary retained on a few. Mike Grier has done a great job even though it’s taken a long time. The San Jose Celebrini’s are fun to watch again!
High stick resulting in teeth or eye injury should be an automatic game misconduct, and 4mins for the team. It's ridiculous that some nobody can do this with virtually no repercussions. The players will continue flailing their sticks as long as the punishment remains inconsequential. As a fan it takes the joy out of the game.
The future is teal.
Was at the tank last night. It was a very well played game and the Sharks stayed sharp for a full 60 minutes. The tank got so loud for the last minute of the game which was absolutely amazing. Great game. Great win. Go Sharks!!
THE JUDY JUPITER ERA CONTINUES
ESPN+ ruined the NBC Sports experience on nationally televised games, then NBC Sports ruined (IMO) the Brodie Brazil experience. Just my take. Great to see you back on the dais, Brodie!
Brodie I love your YouTube channel. Best sports guy on YouTube nice to see you covering Sharks professionally. Hockey is my fav sport! Cheers man
Loving these breakdowns, but friendly ask for @brodiebrazil or whomever at the @SanJoseSharks makes the thumbnail, please don't include the score. I watched this game live, but catch a lot of games via highlights and have had games spoiled by these thumbnails, which really takes the edge/enjoyment out of watching the game recaps. Knowing the sharks are going to beat the Kraken 6-1 before I even see any footage of the game, because of a thumbnail on YouTube sucks. Thanks for coming to my soap box TED Talk🦈
