MAJOR Yankees Free Agency Update – Yankees STEALING Mets Stars…

We have a major New York Yankees update to go over today as the Yankees are trying to steal multiple New York Mets star players and Yankee fans are loving some of these moves as one of them in particular shows the perfect move for the Yankees to make during this off season. There will be subsequent moves they’ll have to make as well. But with the Yankees targeting multiple stars on the New York Mets, there are some clear fits here that do excite fans. And also multiple reports surrounding the Yankees are known for their interest as well. And we are going to break all that down. There’s a lot to go over. Free agency is officially underway, guys. And we are going to be having every single update, no matter what it is, for the New York Yankees. I know we were late on the Trent Gisham one. I was not around the computer at the time, so unfortunately I couldn’t make the update. But every free agency update, we are going to have a video out on that within 30 minutes. Whether it’s a signing, whether it’s other news, whether it’s the Yankees not acquiring someone who they were expected to, we are going to be breaking everything down for you guys. But real quick before we get into it, if you’re part of that 71% that’s not subscribed to Yankees Digest. I don’t know what you’re doing right now, man, because this is the place to be for all New York Yankees updates every single day. Me and Alex don’t miss days. We’re uploading every single day, man. You don’t want to miss out on all the fun. But let’s jump right into the video, guys. That’s what we’re here to talk about. Also, real quick, if you’re not subscribed to my channel, Nick’s Digest, I’m just 24 subscribers away from 20K, so please help out there as well. But that’s not the point. The point is the New York Yankees are trying to go out there and steal multiple New York Mets stars in an update that I find not only hilarious but also actually good for the Yankees because not only does it mean they are going big fish hunting, they also are trying to really really be aggressive in free agency which is exactly the update that we wanted to see. The biggest fear going into this free agency is this Yankees team has holes in them. I mean one of them is obviously short stop with Anthony Vulpi there and I mean Jose Cababayro has a chance to really take over that role which would be cool to see. And also I do imagine the Yankees will try to bring back Amed Rosario who will step in there as well. But on top of that there are some holes within this team and the Yankees desperately need to fill them. And with that in mind they have been linked to multiple Mets star players. And just jumping right into these reports it was mentioned by Jim Bowden that Pete Alonzo became the Mets all-time home run leader this season. He’s now at 264 and put together a nice rebound season after a down 2024, hitting 38 home runs and leading the National League with 41 doubles. He’s beloved in Queens and the feeling is mutual. The Mets were not willing to give him a long-term contract last offseason and if they don’t change their tune this time around, they’ll probably lose him. Alonzo has belted 37 or more home runs in each of the last five seasons. And although he’s a below average defender at first base, he works at it and he’s durable. having played all 162 games in the past two seasons. Allonzo has a player option worth $24 million that he declined. He’s made $30 million in 2025 and his salary comps have been Freddy Freeman’s six-year $162 million deal which I feel is exactly what Alonzo will probably be getting here or at least what he’s hunting for. Matt Olsen getting eight years 168 million. Paul Goldmith back in the day getting five years and 130 million. And the best team fits were the Mets, Phillies, Red Sox, Mariners, Rangers. And on top of that, what we’ve seen is that the Yankees do have serious serious interest in Alonzo. While Bleacher Report ranked them as the top team for Pete Alonzo as well over the Mets, the Yankees are seen as the best spot. Now, Carrie Miller did talk about this saying effectively when it comes down to it. Look, the Yankees, they get a chance to punch the Mets back and not only that, but they do get an elite power hitter onto this team who also has had good contact, especially this year. I mean look at a 272 batting average hit with an 871 ops. Pete Alonzo is an all-star level first baseman. He does give the Yankees that. Now obviously the Yankees do have Ben Rice and Ben Rice is cheap and it makes sense to save money and not acquire Petonzo because at the end of the day you stick it out with Ben Rice who is an absolute budding star and a future cornerstone piece for this Yankees team. Unless Tar Scubble or Paul Ske becomes available which I mean Scooble will be and Ske likely won’t be. We will likely I mean there’s no other way that Ben Rice gets traded. Those are the only two guys who the Yankees would ever consider trading Ben Rice for. I mean even if like a Sandy Alcantara became available, we know for a fact that Brian Cast would not go out there and try to move Ben Rice for him. So that is something that we do have to be aware of. But there’s other players as well like Edwin Diaz who got a fit mentioned for the Yankees with the Mets, Dodgers, Yankees, and Braves being ideal fits. The Yankees are known to be going for the bullpen. And as Bowden said, Edwin Diaz is expected to opt out of his contract to pursue a longer, more lucrative deal, something that he did. Though he’s made it clear his preference is to return to the Mets. He was again dominant this season, posting a 1.63 RA with 28 saves, 98 strikeouts in 66 and 1/3 innings. He ended up with a 0.874 whip, too. After making roughly 21 million a season each of the last three years, he has player options for 18 million in each of the next two years and a team option in 2028 for 20.4 4 million and he did opt out which means a new contract for four years with a slight raise will probably bring him back to Queens. However, he did get comped to guys like Josh her who signed the 5year $95 million deal to Tanner Scott who signed four years 72 and frankly Diaz has been the best closer in baseball over the last year and is expected to get a big contract for it. Now the Yankees we know they want more swing and miss guys. There’s not much more swing and miss than a guy with 98 strikeouts and 66.1 innings appeared and a whip of 0.87. 874 with 28 saves to his name. He would have had more, but obviously the Mets weren’t good this year, which ultimately did cause the lack of saves for Diaz where he stepped into games that were in save situations just because, well, he’s he’s their best relief pitcher and also arguably the best closer in baseball. So, we know how the Yankees feel about closers. Obviously, they did trade for David Bednar, which does make this interesting as well, but I don’t think the Yankees would sort of use that as a reason to not go for Edwin Diaz if they could. if they could add Diaz and Camila Dval have two swing and miss guys especially with Dval being up and down with the Yankees more down than up but having his moments I mean in the playoffs he was solid so when we consider that it does give the Yankees another elite bullpen arm and we’ve seen the Yankees do this before it’s not like this would be the first time that we’ve seen Brian Cman go out there and decide you know what we’re just going to go out there and try to add as many great closers as possible and put them all on one team I mean the Yankees had Don Batanis in 2015 who was excellent I mean one of the top three closers in baseball and And then what did Brian Kman do? He traded for Araldis Chapman after the after the first deal fell through because Chapman decided to make some decisions and in his life and then also brought in none other than Andrew Miller. Shout out Andrew Miller. Absolutely one of my favorite pitchers of all time because why not? All of them had 100 plus strikeouts. All of them. They were all closers. Yankees paid him. They paid them. We’ve seen Hal do that before. I’m just saying it it’s very possible out here. We’ve seen them do it before. I wouldn’t be shocked if they do it again. I really wouldn’t. So, that’s something to consider as well with the Yankees team. While Cedric Mullins has also been a guy to look at for the Yankees as well. We know the Yankees are going to look at adding some depth into the outfield. Now, Mullins does bat from the left side. He used to be a switch hitter, but he’s no longer. He now bats from the left side. Had a really down year between the Orioles and the Mets. had a 216 batting average and a 690 OPS, but he’s a good base runner, a great fielder, and would be a good depth piece as a fourth or fifth outfielder for the Yankees. And this was discussed as well. Now, in regards to Mullins, as Jim Bowden said, Mullins has played himself off of being an everyday center fielder despite still being an above average defender thanks to his plus range. He’s still a 15 homer, 15 stolen base type talent, but he’s not hit 235 or above in the last three years. I don’t see him getting an everyday job anymore, but he would be a quality fourth type outfielder on a contending team. Some comps are Lane Thomas’ salary on the one-year $7.8 million deal, Trent Gisham’s one-year $5 million deal that he signed before he could hit a ball. Brandon Marsh getting the one-year $3 million deal, and the Phillies, the Yankees, the Guardians, the Royals were the guys who were really picked for him with a one-year $8 million deal. I would not mind Mullins at all. I will say I do have one specific concern with Mullins is that he’s a lefty. The Yankees have a million lefties out in that outfield already. I mean whether you outside of Aaron Judge of course I mean Dominguez is expected to be a full-time left fielder next season if that happens Jason Dominguez is a switch hitter who’s better from the left side who we could see just start taking lefty at bats full-time now on top of that in center field say you bring back Cody Bellinger which I do sort of expect the Yankees to bring him back he’s a lefty you bring up Spencer Jones wouldn’t you know it he’s a lefty too so when we consider that also if they bring back Trent Gresham he’s a lefty so that’s my one concern I’d rather the Yankees fourth outfielder if it’s not Spencer Jones. I would way, way, way rather it be someone who bats from the right side. But what do you guys think about all this? Let me know in the comments down below.
