Yankees Ben Rice got absolutely robbed by Major League Baseball. Same with Maikel Garcia

Oh, it’s kind of gotten to the point where it’s beyond obvious that there is Yankee bias within the voting system of MLB. Zack McKinstry just won the utility player Silver Slugger for 2025. Can hear it now. Oh, Yankee fans, you’re always complaining yada yada yada. Well, hear me out here. The Silver Slugger is strictly an offensive award. Ben Rice led in every single offensive category with the exception of batting average where McKinstry batted 259 and Ben Rice batted 255. McKinstry had 49 RBI’s, Ben Rice had 65. Mckinstry had 12 home runs. Ben Rice had 26. Rice slugged 499 compared to McKinstry’s 438. OPS Ben Rice had 836 compared to McKinstry’s 771. OPS plus McKinstry had 113. Ben Rice had 131. I can keep going through these numbers if you want, but this is strictly an offensive award. How is this not going to Ben Rice? How did Zack McKinfrey win this? I honestly do not know. When you look at the numbers, Ben Rice wins on paper every single time. With the Silver Slugger award, it normally is the player with the better offensive numbers will win that award. This one really has me confused, but it kind of goes to what I’ve been saying for a while now, that there is bias within the system. But as always, what are your thoughts? Let me know in the comments below. This is Darren with Ground Baseball, and I will talk to you guys later. [Music]

  1. says here Ben Rice played 370 innings and 50 games at first Base and 229.2 innings at catcher and 36 games played there. So that is a total of 599.2 innings in the field, if you divide that by nine, it means he played approximately 66.555 games in the field and the rest at Designated Hitter. Probably not enough time in the field to win Utility Silver Slugger Award. Zack Mckinstry had 1147.2 innings in the field compared to 599.2 for Rice.

  2. Judge has 2 already so I'm not totally losing sleep over it! True theres a bias no doubt…! To be honest bro I think awards such as personal awards are more meaningless nowadays! The one ultimate award I am still longing for is our next world series ring! To me nothing else compares or matters! Yanks I think are close, Hal, Cashman amd Boone just need to get their heads out of their asses and let the guys play! Is Cashman builds right and better trust me will will be hoisting up a new championship banner! It is time for The Yanks to take that next step!

  3. Oh I know why. They HATE anything NY. They HATED the fact NY was the capital of Baseball with 3 teams, so they took two beloved teams, send one to LA, one to SF and THEN expanded the league. F'n think about it. Clearly they wanted to F NY – so they gave them an expansion team back!?!?!? What f'n sense did that make? So who the f do you think is going to be AL MVP? Judge? 👿🤣👿🤣👿🤣👿

  4. Maybe Yanks get shafted because IMO The GM is basically unlikable in trade talks. The Umps really like Boone for his tasteful displays of arguing balls and strikes lol… and the FO has been caught "tampering" just a few times with coloring outside the lines. Lets also not forget the Ex Yankee players accusations during the last several decades. Just wild guessing there.

  5. Ben Rice played only 2 positions 50 games at 1B-–36 games at Catcher– he also DH 48 games, which probably doesn't count in the category of "Utility player"

Maikel Garcia played 136 games at 3B (starting 130 games there) while playing only 17 games at SS/ 6 games in CF/
1 game in RF/ and he DH 6 games. —-That's not a utility player that's a starting 3rd-baseman who occasionally filled in at other positions. He shouldn't even have been eligible for the utility player Silver Slugger

    Zack McKinstry played 85 games at 3B/ 40 games at SS/ 30 games in RF/ 15 games in LF / 6 games at 2B/ 1 game at 1B/ 3 games at DH

I'm not sure Rice was robbed. McKinstry played all over the field at 6 different positions, including 3 different position in which he played at least 30 games. While Rice played only 2 position, not including DH)

Rice numbers are obviously better than McKinstry but McKinstry might have fit the voters definition of "Utility Player" more than Rice did, and the voters based their vote on that.

I don't know if someone who plays only 2 positions is really considered a Utility Player. It's usually someone who plays a lot of positions. Or at least he plays more than 2 positions. A guy who plays only 2 positions is kind of just a guy who plays 2 positions.

  6. Imo they played Benny Nice in MLB The Show 25 also. Fully expected to see him on a finest card! Maybe! There is still time. But also if you look at the final rankings or just the difference in stats. Jazz was a 90 plus speed player every year in his DD cards. Suddenly his finest he's 75 speed! But here's a Soto card with 85 speed and 99 steal! 😂😂 Iykyk

  7. The only thing I can think of is they don't view Rice as a true utility player. More of a platoon guy. He had a lot of starts this season. It's the only thing I can think of.

  8. It's always been biased against the Yankees within the system. Remember 2017 when that little guy Jose Altuve won the MVP vs. Judge. It's going to happen again with Judge vs. Raleigh this year, because Raleigh is playing a harder position. That's why MLB is a joke and I don't follow the awards after the WS. Why do you think Jeter said that the only he cared about is winning the WS. He's not wrong about that.

  9. Same thing will happen to Judge (again) just like in 2017 when Altuve the cheater won MVP. Cal Raleigh, with a .247 Avg and 7 more home runs than Judge, will win the MVP. Yet Judge owns the other numbers including BA by 60pt or so. We should not be surprised.
