EP40 is setting everyone up and no one finishes, and they can’t set him up

  1. If that’s the case and it’s all the fault of his line mates, then why doesn’t he shoot the puck?

  2. He needs to stop focusing on setting up and shoot the damn puck.

He has decent linemates no excuses

  3. This also means he’s not getting himself high danger chances when he’s carrying the puck into the zone on his own

Let’s not pretend this is strictly an “other player” issue

  4. Watching the constant drop passes are infuriating but it’s even worse when you can clearly see his vision/playmaking and then his teammates wasting an opportunity

There’s a fine line between trying to get the optimal setup and “fk it I’ll do it myself” and petey really needs more of the latter energy

  5. A lot of his best work is done in the defensive/neutral zone, which is why his strengths are less noticeable by fans. He’s one of the best at receiving a pass in the neutral zone and quickly touching it to a winger with speed to generate odd man rushes and scoring chances

This is encouraging though, and if we’re not going to rebuild I would love to spring big for a great winger like Pasta or maybe Kempe

  6. A bunch of people that don’t play hockey are commenting that he should shoot. This should explain why he isn’t shooting.

Defences are being told to take away the shot from EP40 and force the pass even if it’s a high danger pass. Other teams are saying “let anyone but EP40 shoot from wherever they want, that’s better than letting their best shooter get a good shot look.”

But yeah he still needs to shoot more and just force the shots anyways. Can’t keep passing to people who are struggling to finish anyways.

  7. It’s obvious he’s waiting for the perfect play too often. It’s why he appears to hesitate because he’s processing the play.

All he needs to do is mix in selfishly taking the shot himself 1/3 of the time and I feel like his points will pick up a lot.

  8. So what you’re saying is…

Once hoggy’s healthy you can put boeser on his wing and then he can finish these chances!

  9. Is it taking into account that he is also deferring an equally dangerous scoring chance in pursuit of said opposing player scoring chance

  10. This is terribly misleading, Petey doesn’t have INDIVIDUAL high danger chances because he doesn’t shoot, and given HDCF is based on shot locations, individually he’s not going to record any if he doesn’t shoot.

For HDCF when on he ice, compared to the team, he’s slightly below Kane, Quinn, and Garland for HDCF/60, with Garland having the highest by a significant amount.

    https://www.naturalstattrick.com/playerteams.php?fromseason=20252026&thruseason=20252026&stype=2&sit=5v5&score=all&stdoi=oi&rate=y&team=VAN&pos=S&loc=B&toi=0&gpfilt=none&fd=&td=&tgp=410&lines=single&draftteam=ALL

so that’s not really a conclusive conclusion to the numbers, if anything it means Garland is the setup man, but no one is finishing on Garlands plays.

Petey has 3.77 shots per 60, that’s going to be the upperbound of his individual HDCF and is actually the thing driving his individual HDCF down, not his teammates.

  11. This aligns with what I was saying about needing to find him people with high enough IQ to play with. It’s not specifically about ELITE wingers, but needing to find people who can read off him and be in the right place and right time and finish. Like a Toffoli or Kuzmenko

  12. Petey should – and will – eventually demand a trade, if the franchise cannot provide him with a true blue talent to play with.

Basically, if they lose Hughes for nothing, I expect Petey to ask out.

If they turn him into a star forward, he’ll likely want to stay.
