Heat. Hey, Heat. Go cowboys. Go Cowboys. Heat. Hey, Heat. Go Cowboys. Go Cowboys. Heat. Heat. Go cowboys. Go Cowboys. Heat. Hey, heat. Hey, heat. Go cowboys. Go Cowboys. Heat. Heat. Go cowboys. Go Cowboys. Heat. Hey, heat. Hey, heat. Go Cowboys. Go Cowboys. Hey, hey, hey. Go cowboys. Go Cowboys. The following is a production of DallasCowboys.com and the Dallas Cowboys football club. How about you, Cowboys? Go Cowboys. Let’s go, baby. Are you ready for a break? Yes. Are you ready for a break? Absolutely. Ready for a break? Yeah. And um so much for that. It’s time for the break on dallascowboys.com. We were on the break with Ambar Garcia, Brian Brous, Vach Lombardi, and Derek Eagleton. It is Monday, November 10th, 2025, season 21, episode number 73. Welcome to the latest edition of The Break. We are live from SWBC Mortgage Studios at the Star. We are presented by LG. LG is the world’s number one OLED TV brand for 11 years in counting. See why at lg.com Evo. Uh today we will uh we’ll try to do a couple things here today. Um obviously there’s a there’s a there’s a cloud that kind of exists over Cowboys land. Uh, it’s been here since Thursday. At Thursday morning, I was actually planning on sleeping in late. Um, with it being the bye-week, I was trying to get some rest. I was trying to spend a little time with the family. Uh, just enjoyed not thinking about football. And, uh, and then I got a call first thing in the morning. Woke me up actually. And, uh, I knew, of course, when you see a a coworker, it’s Nicole actually, that called me. But, when you see a coworker call in that early on a morning when everybody’s supposed to, like I told our team, get away. and I get a call. My first thought is something’s wrong. And um and then as she started to tell me what was going on, obviously um my first thought is this can’t be true. Certainly this is just the internet doing internet things. This can’t be true. And the more the morning went on, the more I found out this is very true. And the Cowboys had lost their second year defensive end, uh Marshon Nean. Um, I I want to give everybody an opportunity just to kind of speak about it, but you know, I’ll just start by saying I didn’t know Marshawn particularly well. Um, being with the team and traveling with the team and being around in the locker room, I had the opportunity to be around him. Um, and and I think it’s been said probably more uh than anything else is his infectious smile uh was something that I think everyone noticed. um and also serves as a representation for all of us that a smile does not mean that everything is okay. Um, and I think um I don’t want us to um I think if if any of us uh don’t don’t think about that more going forward with regard to the people that are around us and taking the time to ask how people are doing, taking the time. I saw Matt Rule was talking about this and he was like, “Take your headphones off and have the conversation.” And I’m very bad about I get in my work mode and I’m busy and I got things going on and and I just don’t always take the time. But if we don’t take this moment to really learn that it’s important to check in on the people that matter to you. Uh and people that sometimes you might just see in a happening encounter. You meet somebody, you see someone, they don’t feel it feels like something’s off with them. Sometimes just maybe asking how are you doing? And and literally stopping and saying how are you doing can make a difference. Amber, I want to start with you. I know you probably of all of us probably had more opportunity uh to work with Marawn. uh just tell me about your impressions of him. I mean, you said it beautifully with his infectious smile. He was a guy that he he had such a beautiful smile and so young, very very young and I only had a few times that I interacted with him. We weren’t super close, but just like any other person, normal, kind, uh, respectful, and just full of life. But just like you said, this is such a hard topic because yeah, we hear it all the time of like talk to somebody, talk and this or check in on somebody and it’s not that easy is that you can be living next to that person and not really realize what exactly they’re going through. And I know that he lost his mother not too long, like a little before the draft. He did an interview with Nicole Hutchinson. She works here, Dallas Cowboys reporter. The interview is on dallascowboys.com. And she asked him about it and he started to cry. And I’m not saying this is the reason, like no one really knows what he was struggling with at the time this whole thing occurred, but the fact that he was so emotional about it, you you can still see that there’s pain behind the eyes and and still mourning. I mean, stop losing a mother whenever in life, but just at the age where he was about to start his career, about to really turn into a full-g grown adult. That that is very devastating. And I know the Cowboys have the resources. And I know a lot of people question. It’s like, well, you have money and you have this and you have that. It doesn’t matter. None of that matters at the end of the day. Even if you have the resources resources around you, especially as a man, I know it is very very difficult for you to talk and open up and discuss certain things that are you you’re struggling with because the reality is you don’t understand it yourself and and a lot of people don’t understand it either. So, it’s hard to communicate. So, whoever is listening right now, the main thing is that know that you’re not alone. It happens to so many of us. I struggle with it too myself. And the one thing that is comforting is knowing that you’re not the only one going through things. It’s different situations, different scenarios, but there are so many of us that deal with mental problems, whether it’s depression, anxiety, panic attacks, whatever form it is, we all react to it differently. And when you’re in it, it’s very difficult for you to see the light at the end of the tunnel. And you just want the pain to go away. And that’s why so many people lose their lives because at the moment you’re in this space where you really see no resolution. And the best thing to know to do is to reach out for help. Get under treatment. Find out what you can do because I promise you even if it if at the time I’ve been on the low I’ve been on the ground praying to God and I always come out of it. It’s just the cycle. So the you have a full life ahead of you and you’re not by yourself and know that there is help out there that you can reach out and I know this is very difficult and you see you know what’s devastating is like you see Dak being such an advocate for ask for help and then it’s like a teammate this happens to someone that’s very close so it’s it’s hard to give an answer because I don’t even have the answer but just know that you’re not alone and the best thing to do is ask for help. And it’s just it’s very I’m still trying to process everything because it’s it’s so hard. It’s so hard to imagine that someone so young after coming out of that game where he had such a big play where you think, “Wow, such a successful moment after all the criticism happening throughout the season for the defense overall and then you get such a big breakout play where you score a touchdown and you’re celebrating, you would imagine, oh yeah, he should be on top of the world and happy, but that’s not the reality. Sometimes the smile is the facade and what you’re dealing with inside just it’s it’s tough. It’s tough and it’s hard to process and and deal with it. But the best thing is to talk about it. Yeah. The the news was was tough. It was difficult. It uh it kicked off as a rumor and like boy that’s a terrible rumor for it to be, you know, to be that. But it ended up being like a like a real thing. And uh first thing I did was I just text around. and I just checked in on my people, just tapped in with some of my um YouTube friends, some of the people I’ve met here at uh.com. And you know, conversation goes a long way. Uh prior to all this YouTube content, I worked at a um mental health hospital for six years and I’ve deescalated a ton. I’ve seen it all, but it never gets easier. And you’d be surprised if somebody’s like an inch away from something. Hey man, what’s up? Hey, bro. What’s going on? D. Well, come talk to me for a minute. You know, just 12 hours a day, 5 days a week. Hey, let me come talk. That was that was that’s a that’s a that’s a intro to everything, no matter what the issue. Hey, let me just let me just holl at you for a second and let let somebody get it off their chest. Let somebody get something off their mind. I think um you know nowadays people are so isolated. You know, we put these headphones on, we walk around, people on these phones texting, you don’t really get a chance to interact with a lot of people all the time, right? I was kind of born and raised to just bother the hell out of how you doing. What’s going on? How you doing? How? It’s it’s a greeting, but how you doing? What’s happening? What’s happening? You may run into somebody that’ll respond to your what’s happening with, “Hey, Vash, can I talk to you for a minute?” Now, it’s on me to be approachable. Yeah, what’s up? So, I just challenge everybody to be approachable. Take the headphones out, get off the phone, because you never know who you going to run into that might need to just get something off their chest, something off their mind. Um just just a quick story uh working at the hospital and I learned so much from just one man uh worked at NASA job you can’t even pronounce. He’s a hyro syphilis shifila therapist. He keeps aliens from taking over the earth. Best job in the world millions of dollars. And I’m just like you know just naively. Hey man, what you what you doing here? You know like I’m broke as hell. Hey, what you what you doing here with your you know what I’m saying? and he lost a friend, just somebody close to him. And that spiraled him in a ridiculous way. And what that taught me was depressed ain’t sad. You can get up and walk off sad. Depressed, your legs don’t work. And now, you know, you could be conflicted with things in your mind that you can’t get off of because it’s so much deeper than just say it’s something that just takes over your entire existence and you just can’t control it. So we just can’t be like, “Oh, how? I can’t understand how.” Or, “Man, you got everything. How, man? You can have a million million whatevers. You can have a nice whatever. Great life, block punt, whatever.” Bro, you just never know because once something kicks into you, you don’t have control to just get out of that. You need the help. Um, cancer has been funded for 3,000 years. mental health only got a decade and a half, you know, two two decades where the government saying, “Hey, let’s put some work into uh figuring out what’s actually going on so that we can fix this kind of stuff.” So, mental health is still very young. Um, but if you have any signs, if you going through anything, just uh reach out and get some help because there’s a ton of resources, but we won’t know until you tell us. Yeah, usually the locker room is a place where uh you can you can be a little bit vulnerable with your situation, with your emotions and stuff. But, you know, we talk about in football how, you know, tough and hard and things are and and, you know, and how you have to fight through things and all that. Well, this just goes to show you that there’s really there’s just no place sometimes, you know, that you can turn to even if you have a a room full of brothers and some, you know, some sisters have now been added to these uh to these locker rooms. You know, you have to be able to uh to go forward and say that. But, you know, you don’t want to be that guy that’s always, you know, that is not looked at as a tough guy. But that that was for my era of football. You know, we’re in a new era of football. We’re in a new era of life where people are able to step forward and and and and say, “Hey, I’m having problems. This is difficult.” And I thought everybody around the table here said the absolute right thing about what needs to be done. I’ll say this. I want to focus on the young man. He was a developing football player. He really, really was. He was a guy that we had some questions about coming into the draft and stuff, but you know what? He got better. every time you watched him play, he got a little better. And that’s the thing that was a credit for him that he was the all the things that he was going through that he he came and did his job every single day and was getting better at it. And it’s unfortunate though uh that that that development has now been cut uh short. And uh but uh I totally, you know, it’s it’s one of these things that like you don’t always have to be the toughest guy in the room. You really really don’t. You can you can tell people, hey, I need your help. And if you’re really a really really a friend of somebody’s, you will help. You’ll listen. You’ll be better listeners for it. Let’s uh I do want to before we go to break, I want to read this uh this post that Solomon Thomas had via his Instagram. He said, “Brother Marshawn, I love you. I wish you knew it was going to be okay. I wish you knew the pain wouldn’t last and how loved you are. I wish you knew how bad we wanted you to stay. my heart breaks for you and your loved ones. We will lift your spirit up every day. And I think that really sums up what so many of us are feeling today uh for both Marawn and for his family. One thing I uh that I know for me personally, and I I assume it’s for most people out there that are listening, is sports, entertainment, it is our diversion. It is what gets us away from the uh the really really tough things about life because we all got tough things going on in our lives from time to time uh throughout life. And uh and so what what we have been charged with doing what what a lot of our job is about here is as being media uh for the Cowboys or talking about the Cowboys is to help make that uh that distraction enjoyable for you guys. And so uh we’re going to do that. We’re going to spend the rest of this show talking about the team as you guys have come to expect from us. Um, and in no way is it meant to be disrespectful in any way to what’s going on. We understand the gravity of it. Uh, but at the same time, we also feel like we want to bring a smile to you and we want to bring you some enjoyment. Um, and and and let you know that we’re going to get through this. We we will as a group. We will get through this and we’ll be okay. Um, so here’s what we’re going to do in this second segment. We’re going to do a little bit of a midyear review. We’re going to talk a little bit about what’s happened over the first half of this season. Uh that’s led the Cowboys to a 35 and one uh record, but you know, but there’s one of the good things is we got a comedian experience. The best part about a funeral on here with us. The best part about a funeral is you got one uncle that’ll tell a joke and just kind of Yeah. lift it all off a little bit. You know what I mean? So, I’ll be here. You know, I’ve actually told my I told my wife and my daughter, we were having a conversation about, you know, death. Um, and I told them, I said, “When I pass away, what I need you guys to do, don’t spend money on an expensive casket.” Sure. Don’t spend money on an expensive bouquet of flowers. You’re gone. No, I’m gone. What I want you to do is I want you to take that money and I want you to hire the best comedian that you can get. Yeah. And I want you to bring them and I want you to have a memorial service where you let that person talk about my life in whatever terms they want to talk about it. I got you. cuz my goal cuz my goal is my goal is I want everyone to leave there not having memorialized me but do it in a way to where everyone walks away with a smile and and I think I think that is how I I want how I choose to be remembered and that’s also how I deal with death personally for me like I’ve dealt with death throughout my life I dealt with as a young person and so it like comedy has been my outlet it’s been my way to kind of deal with those emotions and uh so I I get that likewise I’m not getting fired today. But likewise, for sure. You know what I’m saying? You got to you got to kind of loosen up the room and get everybody back on track. I’ve I’ve got you beat already, Derek. Helman told me he’s going to deliver my eulogy. That would be David Helman’s going to stand up there and tell you about Can we live stream that? Oh, sure. Yeah. I hope it doesn’t happen too soon. But I’ve already talked to Hel. Let’s go. We need you. Yeah, I’ve already talked to Helman. I said, “Listen, I want you to go up there and stand up there and talk about me when this is all said and done.” That is that is better than any committee. I think I think he’ll encapsulate everything that I you know the LSU brothers that we are. But I think the age difference and the fact that I he and I he is he is he is one of my favorite people. So yeah, but yeah, I I I I know where you’re going with that. I understand what you’re doing. All right, here’s what we’re going to do. Let’s talk a little bit about what’s happened so far in this first half of the season. My first question for you guys is which was the better offensive addition, George Pickkins or Javvante Williams? I’ll speak for Williams because I know Brian’s gonna talk about picking. I got his ass off. Damn right I am. But um I just think Williams brings so much like toughness to the party. So much tough running to the party and um that’s infectious. Picking got some infections too, Ro Brian. But but you know picking um Williams kind of kind of makes it easier for everybody else which is why you know like if I could tell Shotty one thing he he don’t watch the show but if I could tell Shotty just just one thing like hey man even even if we getting down in some of these games sometimes I know it’s tough but try not to get away from the run game. I know sometimes in this uh you know in this attempt to catch up to uh you know the points and all this kind of stuff defense may be down you’re trying to catch up fast. It may benefit the Cowboys offense to catch up slow because as soon as you stop running, everything looks totally different. You look at the Arizona Cardinal game, boy, the run game was there. I would say even in Denver, the run game was there. I just uh I just wish, you know, we could lean into that a little bit more, but Javvante has been fantastic for the and I don’t think we can afford him. I don’t think we’ll be able to bring him back. He’s looking like a $10 million back next year. You got this one. Ag, I’m gonna go with Pickkins. And Damn right you. Hey, man. She knows football. Let her talk. I’m let her talk. Well, even though to tell you even though I have um I have seen Well, well, be quiet. You’re like, let her talk, but then we’ll be quiet. Will you go please? Let her talk. Let her talk. Man, even though I have seen the same things that you guys have seen as far as the different backs that the Cowboys have carried over the years, somehow I still hold on to this belief that with a good offensive line, you can make most decent backs be successful. Sure, some are tougher than others and some will give you those extra yards with that push, but I’m still holding on to that um theory. I don’t know why because I’ve seen the ones that haven’t been as good, but as long as you have a good offensive line, you’re going to get usually the best out of a a a running back. Now, with the wide receivers, it’s been a while since the Cowboys have had two really good wide receivers. So, yes, I’m putting that number one on my list because I’m enjoying what I’m seeing. I was lacking some of that. I was still in the whole wide receiver by committee era, moving on from that. And now you feel like you’re more settled. I do hope that they do give him a contract because I want two wide receivers that are stable, constant, and can keep going here with the Cowboys. And George Pickkins, he’s special. He’s special. He He did um Brandon Cooks, we saw some potential there, but it never got really going. He had some success. Mike McCarthy, he had a slight success, but never really worked out. So again, I’m just I’m uh I’m enjoying a lot more what I see from George Pickkins. However, that’s a tough question, Derek, because they’re both equally valuable. Boy, if Mike McCarter was over here, boy, give him a break. We’d be sick of pickings, by the way. Move on. We’d be sick of GP if Michael here. Go ahead, Brian. Talk us about GP, man. Yeah, I know. I I can’t get over this whole Mike McCarthy thing. It ain’t fake. It It’s not fake. Uh you know what, Timmy, this offense, I think, would completely have fallen apart. CD Lamb went out for several games and what happened? And you did not miss a beat. You really did. Your offense was still functioning. Yeah. Williams running the football. The offensive line. I have some questions about your offensive line right now, you know, to be honest with you. Yeah. But but to me, you know, Williams for what he did, I think this we could talk about scheme. We could talk about coaching. We could talk about players. But VA is right. He’s shown a lot of toughness running the football. And I think that’s something is admirable. But you think about having this offense without CD Lamb playing in it. You know, Dak Prescott, not having somebody to throw the football to. George Pickins stepped up in those games he was out and George Pickkins every week gives you a chance because he plays he plays exceptional football. Yeah. Williams is very has played very well. I think George Pickkins has played at a completely another level. And I think there’s there’s a side of me that is this that there’s certain games and certain situations where I think George Pickins has been a better player than CD Lamb. Go ahead, Derek. Do the right thing. I will tell you I agree with Amber and Brian on this one. mainly because mainly because when you when you think about what George Pickkins has done and when you think about the fact that quite frankly we’re seeing right now from Rico Dao the Cowboys probably could have done this last season if they would have committed to actually running the ball earlier in the season. I don’t I don’t know that there. Go ahead. I don’t I don’t know that this is a so much about Javvante Williams as much as it is about Shotti and Shotti having an offensive mind from the standpoint of we are going to run the ball. Helps though. He does. He does. But I but I do think that Rico we we’re seeing it this year. Rico Donald is a really really good running back. He is a really good running back and the Cowboys had him and did not use him to that potential. And so yes, I think Javvante Williams has been a great addition. Uh, I think he does some things and I think personally he does some things that that that Rico maybe aren’t in Rico’s game in the same way. I think the the the tough style with which he runs I think is a little bit unique to him uh relative to those two backs. But all those things being considered, man, when Pickkins came in here, he changed the complexion of this offense. And certainly, I don’t think they would have been able to move the ball because we’ve seen this happen before when CD was out. If if they didn’t have George Pickkins, I don’t think they would have moved the ball effectively at all. I think he has meant a ton to this team. And I agree with you, Brian. I think at moments at during this year, even when CD’s in there, he looks like he is he is the guy that’s been a little bit more productive for you at times. Uh but yeah, I go with you guys with with George Pickins on that one. Well, I tell you what, this will be the last time I I try to be a good podcaster, right? Because the the the correct answer is Pickkins, but I was like, “Hey, I was like, “Hey, Brian.” Look, I was like, “Hey, Brian’s gonna talk about pickings.” I guess. Yeah. Let me take the opposite. I was trying to be a good podcaster. Do it. But just to be fair, do us a favor then. Okay. You have another question. Do do it real quick. Yeah. No, take take note. Take take the All right. I’m going to take the Williams approach. You take Pickings. I think some of your biggest plays come from come from Pickkins, right? And you know, Lamb may may be the better work in the offense and move the chains and and I want to I don’t even feel right talking about CD Lamb in that way because he’s a he’s a fantastic player as well. But all the big eyeball test. Sure. All all the big plays, all the gamechanging plays, all the when you need a catch, the toe taps on the sidelines, the big stuff, the the PIs, it has it has been pick for sure. Yeah. I tell you what, the thing with Williams though, and you mentioned the element of toughness that he’s brought. He is a complete back. They’ve been searching for a complete back here for a while. A guy that could blit pick up. They don’t use him enough to catch catching the ball, by the way. That’s another thing. But there there is a you can make a really really really good argument, some people can, others can’t about Williams being the the best player here, you know, in this situation. Yeah. The other thing I’ll throw out too, as as you were talking about CD and relative to George Pickkins, I actually think it’s a great thing that that George Pickkins has had those moments because what it’s going to do is in the second half of this season, watch what I’m telling you. It means CD is going to have some huge, humongous games. And I think it’s going to happen because teams have to think about pickings as just as lethal a weapon as they do CD. And sometimes when you have that new addition to a team, teams still say, “We going to first take away CD. We going to make you prove to us that you can do it without CD or with a limited CD.” They’ve proven that now. They know George Pickins can have those kinds of games. And so I do think that in the second half of the year, you’re going to see some of those games from CD where he’s going to just go absolutely ham and have a great great game. uh because he’s got that other compliment on the other side of the field. All right, let’s move on to the next question I have for you guys. Which of these players uh is is the is Dallas relying on most to have an impactful second half? Trayvon Diggs, De Marvian Overshon, or Donovan Wilson. Uh I think I I think I think Jerry put a ton of pressure on the linebacker, man. I think when uh you know Demo comes back, I mean it’s it’s it’s on you partner and then it’s on flu. But hey man, we got you a a you mean after the trades it’s all on over. It’s all on I I think he’s right. It is all on over. Now you can be like hey we got you Quinnon to help Over or we got you Logan Wilson to assist with over but this is this is Overshung’s problem right now. So, I think the Cowboy, if he shows up as that guy, and it’s so unfair to ask of him off a major injury like that, but boy, he did it last year. I I thought I thought that that last year’s injury was going to be a setback, and he was 10 toes down, whooping feet. So, I would just hope that he does the same thing. Please, quick question. So, with Logan, Logan, when he was traded, I know it was mentioned a lot, he is automatically your best linebacker. Was that taken into consideration like a healthy oversh where does overshone line up there? Yeah, we we all we all knew that that uh he was going to come back but be more of like a will linebacker type guy. So I think we’re looking for mics. We’re looking for mics and you know green dot um um backers and I still think they’re going to maybe move Green Dot around because Logan just got here. I don’t know. We’ll see. It just depends on how fast he can um you know pick things up. But I think we’ve always thought it’s over shown and who uh we’ll be so positive today, man. We ain’t going to say nothing about nobody, man. But yeah, Logan, but but yeah, Logan Wilson, we I knew Logan was going to come right in and we would just get better by simply just playing him a little bit more. As a side note real quick, you said mic linebacker for those that don’t know. That means middle linebacker. He said will linebacker. That means weak line weak side linebacker for those that don’t don’t don’t know that verbage. I can get I can get super nerdy and tell you sometime the mic ain’t always the mic, but that is fair. Yeah, that’s fair. Yeah. I’m just saying in general terms when you hear Mike that’s usually middle. When you hear Will, usually that’s the weak side. Who on the defense is running down anybody? Who in the the first nine 10 weeks has run down? You talk about pressure. Yeah. They don’t they don’t have they haven’t had any speed on defense. Now you potentially have that speed back. Who’s the guy that’s going to make plays behind the line of scrimmage? Who’s the guy that’s going to run somebody down in the flat? Who’s the guy that’s going to make maybe a blitz and a sack? They haven’t had that guy. You talk about pressure. Yeah. that’s clearly on that uh that that zero out there. I mean, he is a he is they that he is going to hopefully bring to them something they haven’t had in nine games and that’s somebody that could play with a burst and can finish plays because that this this defense has been given up huge plays and hopefully he’ll be a guy that’ll limit some of those. Well, here’s the deal. You you mentioned Trevon, but then when when are you expecting him back? I look that’s the thing and here’s my deal. I look at these players and the ones I just named. I heard you say Amber this easy answer. I don’t think it is because they got they got help for the defensive line. They got help for the linebackers. They didn’t bring in any help for the secondary. And Brian, you just mentioned all those big plays. A lot of those big plays right now are happening deep down the field. You got issues where where your secondary is having some some issues. We’ve been hearing about communication since the beginning of the season. So for me when I look at this question, yes, I think Demarian Overshon should help. I think right now the biggest area where they’re going to need and the question was who is Dallas relying on most to have an impactful second half I think it has to be one of those guys in the secondary because if they don’t get that impactful second half from one of those guys and this secondary doesn’t solidify I don’t care how much help you got for the defensive line how much help you got for the linebackers you’re still going to have problems especially against some of these teams you got to play that have some really really big time receiving options and really good quarterbacks. That’s going to be a challenge for them if they can’t get that level of play when those guys come back. I think you have a better chance. This is going to sound crazy with what guys like Rell and and Carson and those guys showing up that which by the way you’ve uh you mentioned on the break sounds like Rell’s is going to Yeah, Rell and Over both are full goes. So there’s a possibility that you know both of them are going to be active this week playing and how much you use Rell you know but you’re you’re you’re absolutely right. you’re going to need somebody in the secondary playing. My hope is though that you know that that one of these guys that I just mentioned does show up like we’re and I know he hasn’t played we haven’t ever seen him play heck we haven’t seen him play a preseason game but you know what to me there there needs to be some changes in the back end and maybe you can get you know let’s be honest Bland did not play very well last week but we’ve seen Bland play better unfortunately though this secondary is not good and and there’s been it’s hasn’t been good with Diggs playing in some of those games. So, I I think there I think that’s something we need to look at. I see your question a little differently because on one end, expectationwise, I expect more out of Overshon because we know what he can do. We’re excited about his comeback and all of that. At the same time, you got some help at defensive tackle, which in essence is going to help the linebacker position, which you also got help at, and now you’re adding oversh. So, even if he struggles a little bit, I think you’re going to, at least me, I’m going to cut him some slack because he’s returning from a pretty big significant injury. Now, moving on to the secondary. Trevon Diggs at this point, I I I don’t know what to say because I’m still I know with the whole concussion thing, it’s been mentioned his under his other injury on what is it? that he’s still struggling with and all that, but I think the biggest pressure is right there. I don’t know what it looks like in the contract. I know he got it not too long ago, but at this point, let’s say he doesn’t do much. I mean, do you cut him by the end of this like heading into next year? I don’t know contractwise what it looks like, but at the end of the day, what has he actually given you this year? Yeah, I I think and yes, I’m I’m being also you have to look at the injuries. You can’t dismiss that. But at the same time, you you hear things and you see things and it’s just like all kind of piling up. Well, I think I think that’s the conversation that’ll be had at the end of the season. I think for right now, and it’s one of the things I’ I’ve been very clear. That’s why I’m saying he would be the one that I very clear about it this year. I think I think Dallas is a better team with him on it right now. And so I think they are relying on him. I think they’re heavily relying on him. When he comes back, if they’re going to have any kind of success for the rest of this season, they’re going to need Trayvon Diggs to be Trayvon Diggs. They’re going to need to be they’re going to need him to be the guy that he’s been at his best for this team because that level Bland just needs to be thrown in there, too. I agree with No, I agree with that. But I’ll tell you this, I’m I’m not as concerned about Bland because Bland had a bad game, but we’ve seen Bland even what was this two three weeks ago? He had a really great game. I I think Bland is is a guy, by the way, playing quarterback in the National Football League, there are going to be days like that. Trust me, there watch any quarterback in the league, there are going to be days like that when, man, you just you getting you getting beat up. And that’s going to happen. Um, but that being said, I’m not worried about Bland right now. I just think from the standpoint of getting his body right more than anything else, that’s what you need from Trayvon Digs because I think a Trayvon Dig, a healthy Trayvon Digs is more than capable providing for the secondary what they need. He just got to get his body right. And if he can get his body right, I think that’s who the Cowboys are going to be relying on more than anybody else in the second half to really have a better half uh and and help propel them to to some success there. All right, we’re going to take our final break. When we come back, I have a list of players. I’m going to ask you guys which player would be most impactful if they had more playing time. It is the final segment of the break live from the SWBC mortgage studios at the Star. Leave me alone. Um, here’s what we going to do. I got one more question for you guys before we end the show today. I got four names. Which of these players will be most impactful for Dallas with more playing time? Stop it. What’s going on, man? Ryano, Nate Thomas, Deian Clowney, or Brevin Span Ford? What was the question again? I did get distracted. Which of these players will be more impactful? Yeah. With more playing time. All right. And name again, please. Yeah. Ryan Fenoi. Okay. Nate Thomas, Jadevian Clowny. Clowny. Or Brevin Span Ford. Clowny. Clowny. Clowny. Okay. Uh, so where I’m at, uh, where I’m at with that room in particular, uh, you know, there’s a lot of rotating going on. think it’s in the uh it’s in White Cotton’s tool belt to like rotate all his guys. I think you need to like hunker down on a little bit of that and they have been doing that which I’ve noticed but I kind of want to play the best guys the most. So I need Donzaraku to get most to go and also I need Clowny to get most to go. Just come off when you tied and we’ll just move on from there. Um just for the sake of podcasting, you know, we just we just up here talking. Um I think Brevin should get a couple more shots too. Um, shouts out to old Luke, man. Luke hadn’t necessarily done anything to lose his job, per se. You know what I mean? He ain’t messing up. He ain’t doing nothing wrong. But I think Brevin gives you so much more as a blocker. And then when he catches the football, he’s 270 lbs. He’s a big dude. Quers ain’t really trying to tackle 270 lbs. And when we’ve when we’ve seen Brevin catch passes, it looks that way. When when we’ve seen him thrash people blocking, it’s been that way. Um, you ain’t gotta fire Luke or nothing like that, but I would love to see a little bit more um, Brevin and consistently more clowning. He need to be starting with Navanzrau. Yeah, I think all of those names are really good ones and they could all benefit from having more playing time. But for me, the one that stands out the most would be Clowny mainly because it’s in an area that you really, really need extra help. You really need to be more impactful in there. So, we’ve se we’ve started seeing flashes of him and I wonder now even with the new addition, how much better that can improve? How much be more can you get to the quarterback? So, I would say Clowny mainly because of the position. Man, I’ll tell you this is the game that’s dangerous because I’m screaming for Nate Thomas to play and he goes out and gives up a bunch of pressures the other day at right tackle. I’m worried about that, you know. So, I you know, if if I felt really good about it, I would said, “Yeah, put Nate Thomas in at right tackle and let’s go.” And maybe it’s a deal where if you put him in there for 60 plays and not uh, you know, and not just 19 that you might have a better or hell, you might give up more pressures. Who knows? It was just a poor game for him overall. And it it kind of hurt my confidence a little bit there with him. But I I’ll say this though. I think it’s Span Ford and I and I and I you talk about Skoon Maker, you know, I think there’s things that Span Ford absolutely does better than Luke Skoonmaker. I think the blocking aspect of it is clearly better. Like he now catches the football pretty well and I think you could you could get stuff out of him for him just coming in the game as a point of attack player and occasional guy here and there. I don’t think I think you need to hit give him more second team reps. Real quick on the on the topic of Nate Thomas. Um could it have been that maybe he’s been spending a lot more time on the left side than the right and then throwing him in on the right? Maybe he just wasn’t as ready for that and then they scream at us because they’re like well what about playing gayon at right tackle you know then you know we forget that we we act like there is it’s a difference left tackle and right tackle is different. It is and when we seen him at left tackle Nate’s been pretty good. Like that’s where I’m I I want to at least give him the benefit of the doubt that maybe this was one a situation where he was not as prepared to play right tackle as he may have been for. I think he has to be ready regardless. I think he has to be ready. You know, and I’m sure some scout team reps, they put him in at right tackle, left, you know, he’s got to be ready regardless. But like I said, there was there was a time maybe a couple weeks ago what I would have just my answer would have been immediately Nate Tom. And I have I have concerns about about Steel. I have concerns there and but we’ve heard that the coaches have come out here recently and talked about there is a legitimate competition at right tackle. So, you know, we might get our wish on that one. Ter Terren has had his issues and it should be a competition. Yeah. But I think sometimes, you know, I I’ll just say we and include myself. We we get a little too much dip on our chip with the new guy sometimes. You know what I mean? I totally sometimes we see the new guy and go, “Hey, man, he look good.” Verse whoever, let’s play him a lot more. And you know, consistency takes a lot more than just looking good against whoever character. You know what I mean? Sometimes we get a little too ahead of oursel. Terren Terren may be making you sick, but um Terren could best option. Do you feel that way real quick about corner that too much dip under chip or is it or you’ve seen about which new guy? just like Carson uh Rell I mean we haven’t seen but we when we saw Carson play the other day the fact that the guy is new and we haven’t seen is that where we’re at right now with all these because you’re thinking oh it couldn’t be any worse I think the difference there is that I saw Nate all camp I saw Hakee all camp I saw all these guys camp that’s fair we got three corners I don’t know what they look like I don’t know I don’t know what Josh what Josh Butter looks like this year Revel Kaitlin Kaitlin played 30 some plays last But just prior to that, I had no clue. So, I think it’s time to just kind of try those guys just to see what they have. Yeah. Well, let’s also be clear. I think for at least I’ll speak for myself, I’m taking clues from what I’m seeing on the field. It seems like the Cowboys are kind of searching for who those guys are cuz they’re moving around different games. They have different guys out there. It feels like they are like, we haven’t quite found the right grouping of quarterbacks that we feel like are our guys. Like, they are the guys we’re going to rely on. Now, as part of that, they’ve been these injuries, people going in and out. But I do think it feels like there isn’t a solidified group. And from that standpoint, I think I look at it and say, well, who are the other guys that should be a part of this conversation because I don’t think they’ve really settled on who the guys really are. I kind of blame that on flu. We doing something these first three weeks. Now we’re doing something different the next three weeks. Now we’re trying something else this next three weeks. And it’s kind of hard to get a feel for who your quarterback group should be. We just had a we had to talk here like, hey, we may get a different group of corners because we gonna play more man this week or a different set of these guys. We’re playing more zone versus this quarterback. I I don’t think you should have a rotating group of six corners like that. I’m going to steal your question real quick. Who do you play next to to Quinn and Williams next to him? Yeah. On a situation like I I will put it like this. I am very much comfortable with almost any of the other defensive tackles being next to him on specific downs based on what you’re trying to get and the matchups because I want I might want different things. Like I think if I really want to be stout because I I got a game a team where that’s really going to try to run the ball, put him and Kenny out there together and let’s see what happens with that. I think they’re gonna all rotate throughout the game. Sure. If I want to get more upfield and this is a game where I really got to get some internal some some pressure on the inside on the interior, then then maybe it’s it’s OSA, right? And I I just think it it fluctuates. I just all four of them. I like all four of your defensive tackles right now. And I’m like mix them and match them however you want to mix them and match them because I think you’re going to be better off than where you were uh two weeks ago. Will this team on first down verse the Raiders first play of the game which is supposed to be a running down. Will they put your money man veteran here team captain guy on the bench because Clark and Quinnon are more stout verse to run? I would I can’t tell you what they would do but I would I ask you what they’ll do. That’s what I what they would do. What? See see what we would do is easy answers cuz we all think we make sense. Yeah. what they would do. That’s true. When when it gets And by the way, And by the way, and by the way, they have other things to consider, too. Sure. Because because their decisions reverberate in the locker room. Yeah. And you have to be aware of how’s this decision going to play in the locker room. How is it going to affect the people that are around them on a day-to-day basis? And I don’t have to deal with that. I’m just like, hey, I just I’ll throw this guy out there. So, I I have a hard time thinking OSA is not a starter when you get to that game. I know Quinnon Williams gonna start. Like there’s no way he doesn’t start, right? So Captain Badge, man. That maybe that’s your answer. Give Quinnon Williams and Logan Wilson a dagum captain badge cuz they was captains where they came from. They going to be captains here, too. All right, man. We appreciate you guys joining us. I know it’s it’s been a a rough few days and hopefully we were able to uh to give you guys a little bit of a smile today and uh we’ll keep moving through this week and we’ll get through this week and uh and get back on track. Kenny Clark also one of your better pass rushers, too. I’m just letting you know, man. I’m letting you know. We’ll be back tomorrow. Till then, for Lombardi, Brian Bratis, Nam Garcia, I’m Dererick Eagles. This has been the break live on dallascowboys.com radio. This has been a production

  1. Dallas needs to get
TE.Rivaldo Fairweather on the field ,arguably best hands and best athlete. We always have these guys sitting then throw them in there, and if they don't show out on two opportunities it's like they aren't any good. Fairweather's college tape as a receiver looked better than any TE on the roster if we are being honest and he definitely had the best hands.
