Giannis Antetokounmpo Postgame Media Availability | 11.09.25

Today was a lot of self-inflicted kind of issues and and wounds I guess. Um kind of hurt a little bit to lose this one. Just what was your kind of takeaway from this where you know double digit lead for most of the game and I know that can go fast in the NBA but it did felt like this was something you guys had. What what did I would agree? I would agree. I think um down the stretch we didn’t play smart. Um we didn’t execute as well. The ball was sticking a lot. Um I think they finished the game with like 22 and six or 22 and 8 banan. Um they were definitely whenever we were double teaming we were like trapping the pick and the roll. They were moving the ball finding the open man they were able to make some shots and we did the complete opposite. Um so I would agree. Uh you’ve obviously closed a lot of games over the years. Um typically you kind of have a partner in that, right? Like whether it’s Chris or Dame. Um, how is it maybe a little bit different this year when that other guy like isn’t maybe as clear or as well as well established? Yeah, I really don’t think that way. Um, I think we just got to do a better job just move the ball. Uh, it’s it’s the way you close games last year and the way you close games couple years ago is not going to be the same way we close games this year. Um, again, as I said, it’s it’s the ball was sticking a lot. Like even when I had the ball, guys was not moving. Our spacing was not good. Um like we have to play the way we play through the first three quarters. Obviously, I know it’s the fourth quarter. You got to be smarter, but we just got to keep on playing with pace, good spacing. Guys got to get in the paint and just in general just be smarter down the stretch. Uh you have that baseline spin and then you’re looking for Kuzz. Did you think he was cutting in as opposed to fading to the corner there or what did you see on that play? I just saw Cruz, but um Thompson is in my opinion elite athlete. Was able to cover space really quick and uh get to the pass. Uh it didn’t matter if it if he cut or uh he was in 3.9. It was a bounce pass. So if he cut was able to, you know, get a bounce pass for the layup, but if he didn’t cut, he’ll get open three. But again, I think it was great read by uh Thompson. I was able to cover space really, really quick. Um, just got to give him credit. Went down to the wire and now you have another back to back going on the road. Just how do you kind of respond better than maybe a Toronto after Indiana? Must win. It’s a must win. As I said, I think we were um we supposed to win this game today. We didn’t. We gave them the game. Um, tomorrow we have another one. This why, you know, NBA is great. Doesn’t matter if you win or lose. Tomorrow you have another one. you have another chance to redeem yourself and uh but tomorrow is a was win. We cannot win. We cannot lose three in a row. 20 offensive rebounds for them. Just why are they so hard to keep off the glass? Uh because I think they have first of all they’re very big team. Two they have probably in our game today few of the best offensive rebound rebounders from Capella, from Steven Adams, from Sigon, uh from Thompson. Um yeah, I think they’re very good offensively bound team. Kind of defensively, a lot of deflections, forced turnovers early, they score 40 in the fourth quarter. Um maybe you guys didn’t turn them over as much or what I guess kind of changed their Was it their effort or or No, they moved the ball. Okay. They moved the ball. I feel like in the first uh few quarters they were like taking tough shots and you can leave with tough tough twos. Uh but in the in the fourth quarter, I think they were moving the ball better. Uh guys was uh cutting. They was getting open threes. If not, they were able to attack, get in the paint. When the ball went up up, they did a good job getting offensive rebound, second chance points. So they I think did they read the game better as the game went on. I think KD had four or five assists in the fourth quarter. Um you guys obviously know what he can do as a scorer. Um, what’s kind of the the thought process there on how much help you want to send to him knowing that he can hurt you as a passer in those? I think Jabari Smith has that three that gives them the the lead off of a kick. That’s exactly what I’m talking about. Like in the beginning of the game, he had he did not have four or five assist. you know, uh, the game plan is not going to change because at the end of the day, um, I think he was doing a very good job getting to his spot and scoring the ball, but we were up 10 10 points. And then I think the moment that he decide to move the ball, now it’s kind of harder. And if the other guys make shots, now you get hurt from him and from the other guys. So, they just played smarter. They played smarter. They did a better job being patient, move the ball, get into the spot. You got to give them credit. But uh at the end of the day, like even if they played smarter and we were able to keep on executing that game plan, I think we still won the game, but um we didn’t play smart down the stretch. As a team, you guys are last place free throw shooting. I know it’s just a small part of the game, but I know you’ve worked on this more than anybody. We’ve covered it. We probably don’t know how the half of it. Doc was like, “What do I do, you know, to make the shots?” But has there been anything that you’ve done in the past that has really worked? I know you’ve done your approach and everything, but maybe under duress or shooting when you’re really tired or No, you just got to rep shoot as many as you can, you know. I think the hardest part is to get to the free throw line, you know. Um, just shoot as many as you can. I try to shoot after shoot around before games after games and eventually going to go in.

  1. Y'all are so quick to blame Giannis is diabolical. He carried the team for 12 years & the fact y'all are counting on his ft to save the game tells us that he isn't getting enough help. They wouldn't be where they're at relying on Giannis ft if everybody plays better. No one wants to box out, grab rebounds, or can't shoot wide open 3's.

  2. Only shot 29 3s. This is a team that should be shooting closer to 50 3s a game. Not only that but the Rockets had twice as many rebounds. The offence is just not there. Add the fact that there wasn't enough subs in the 4th and that is what killed it. Sims should have some minutes to rest Giannis.

  3. I agree with Giannis "great teams don't lose two in a row" but going 1-1-1-1-1-1 is also not great rn. Granted I think this team is significantly better than last year and with KPJ our start would've been even better than this. 6-4 is still a solid start.

  4. This might be cope but we literally don’t have a starting sf so our defense will always have a hole in it and I like Ryan Rollins but asking him to be a number 2 option it too much to ask we need kpj and we need to get someone like pj Washington or herb jones. Aj keeps getting into foul troubles early because he’s guarding someone 7 inches taller than him every night which takes him out of Rythm

  5. Bucks have a coaching problem. No offense to Doc. If he comes against a superior coach, he unravels. Pains me to say but Bucks will suffer to win with him as coach. Mark my words today.

  6. As „smart“ is something mentioned a lot in this postgame, we need to admit Milwaukee is not a very smart team in general and I’d say for years now. They can compete but man they had so many upturns over the past years. Coaches don’t affect also much

  7. Besides the loss against the raptors by 20+, the 3 others loss were close. They could have win those.
Clearly we have a problem to secure the rebound and box out against bigs. The Rockets are the number 1 team in that category, but we let too many offensive rebounds last night.

  8. When Bucks get 27 rebounds and Houston gets 50, you understand why Bucks lost. When you have 45% , three-point shots and you lose, what does that mean? This coach could not coach any team in Europe!

  9. On the other hand, Rockets turning the ball over a lot in the first half was also self inflicted. I guess Udoka was furious in the locker room.

  10. Yes Giannis this season will be a failure. Learn to stay calm when that word applies to you. Jokic is on the chopping block as well. Y'all not fooling anybody with that one and done.

  11. Alpi sent him to the bazar. How joyful it was to watch that move of Alpi against the MVP. He was sticking out his tongue at Alpi earlier on but he had to swallow it in the end.

  12. GA34 busts his ass every single game. On TV or in person, I have never regretted watching a game that he plays in. Tonight was a tough game against another good team. 10 missed free throws were the difference in the end. 14 of 24 is not good.
