Shout Out to the Unsung Heroes of the Defense

  1. Putting their names out there.

In a year full of injuries, these guys have stepped up from relative anonymity and performed incredibly. Truly embodying that next man up mentality.

Jobe’s been out there for 76% of the team’s defensive snaps

Okada’s been out there for nearly 70% in relief of Love

Knight’s stepped up as right-hand man of Ernest Jones with 45%, with a standout showing yesterday

and Drake Thomas coming out of nowhere to be the back wall of consistency behind Ernest and Tyrice after what was seemingly the most concerning spot on defense, depth wise

That’s not even mentioning some of the other guys with simply less time but worthy of mention like former Rams castoff Darion Kendrick, Miami UDFA castoff Brandon Pili, and 5th Round understudy Mike Morris who’s finally come out into form as part of the D-Line rotation.

  2. They’ve all been balling. The depth this team has insane. We haven’t had a fully healthy defense since the first snap of the first game and other than the Bucs game, this defense continues to be elite! That hit that Okada had was beautiful

  3. JS finding defensive players who can perform meaningful starting reps, and coach Mike turning them into a top 5 defense, is honestly insane. It makes me confident that even if we shed defensive talent over the next few years that our front office can plug the holes

When Mike was hired the overwhelming feeling on this sub was that we really got our guy and its so nice to know that our feeling was justified

  4. Kendrick’s snap count has dropped a lot the past 3 weeks, is that just due to Witherspoon being back?

  5. As MM is often quoted as saying, “players are allowed to get better”.

This program is really firing right now as a developmental program, which should remind us that it isn’t about what a player is at the time that the are acquired but who they can become once the coaches get their hands on them. Especially for guys from schools like UTEP and Montana State, no disrespect to those programs, but the level of coaching that they’re getting now is leaps and bounds better than anything they have experienced previously.

  6. To be fair one of these guys has been injured and the other three have definitely gotten attention as of late 😂 but love the love!! Our defence is as close to the legion its ever been.

  7. I love the way the Big Sky Conference is carrying the torch this season. From one of the biggest signings of the offseason (Kupp, EWU), to one of the biggest signings of the deadline (Shaheed, WSU), to one of the biggest surprise contributors (Okada, MSU).

As a huge Cats fan it’s been nothing short of a dream seeing a cat play up like this. Sure you got Singleton balling out but he spent a lot of time with the Stamps first. Anderson has been as injured as ever, Tommy couldn’t break camp, and Hardy has been hot and cold when he does get playing time. If Okada can stay on the field he may be the first cat-out-of-college to make waves since Mike Person

  8. As a Montana State Allum who watched Ty Okada play in college it’s been so awesome to see him ball out this year!

  9. I hope Jobe is doing alright. Two concussions in one year, only separated by like a month, is pretty scary.

  10. It really feels like the first time in a long time our defense is playing as a unit, absolutely love to see it

  11. I dunno those turnovers and visits to our red zone were not blissful.

But happy that our D got some high intensity red zone reps.

  12. I watched Drake Thomas for years while he was at NC State, so happy for him to be on the field and contributing to our defense!
