This career ending moment was brought to you by DraftKings where all new users can get $200 in bonus bets with any $5 bet! Even professional athletes!
I sincerely doubt there was only 1 instance of them willfully throwing the game. There’s 1 that we know of, worth a combined $12k, but there’s got to be a pattern of evidence and more behind the scenes that hasn’t been revealed yet that would indicate they made way more.
Or this is one of the many times they did it
promise you there’s other athletes still doing this, they’re just doing a better job of not getting caught.
The prison leauges must be excited.
The government only detailed two instances of the fix in the indictment. He threw a lot more fixed pitches so made a lot more than $12k.
You played yourself.
Which is why sports getting in bed with bookies is a terrible idea.
It was likely much more than 12k but he did indeed throw his career away
How this doesn’t reek of misdealings and conspiracy is beyond me. Either he’s so dumb to believe that $12,000 will actually make a difference, or he was in a bad way with worse people. Simply put, the math doesn’t math.
This confounds me it makes me wonder if they were duped somehow into thinking they’d make 50 million or something or they were somehow ignorant to the fact that you can’t gamble on baseball as a player or maybe they just thought they’d never get caught. Whatever it is, couple of boneheads.
$12000 just for that instance. I’d say there were more instances
Still better than Wander Franco.
And he was still part of one of the worst trades the Texas Rangers have ever made.
Some dumb shit
This investigation was broght to you by DraftKings
And how much was the profit for the bookies?
I used to tell people about how I regretted the Emanuel Clase deal. That wont be the case anymore.
I’d be so pissed off if these guys are on my team and weren’t available to pitch because of this nonsense
The low amount of money is what I don’t understand. I have read about the 1919 Chicago Black Sox scandal—those guys back then did not make very much money. So it is conceivable that they would be easily bribed. But it makes a lot less sense in the modern era with the kind of money these guys are earning.
Manfred is going to make sure Andy Pages always has a place in the league to keep these pitchers honest
People usually doing this are into other stupid shit and get black mailed also. They probably gave him a 12K pity payment for going along with the black mail.
Clearly don’t have grasp on risk vs reward
I’m guessing they got into trouble with gambling debt and that’s how they had to repay it. That’s the only way I can make sense of this

I think what we will come to find out is that someone or a group of people had dirt on these guys in their personal life and used that to their advantage to force them to make certain decisions… but we will see
There’s definitely more people involved. Can we place bets on who else is going nuke their careers?
Cartel didn’t give them much of a choice. Either you do it or you don’t see your family again.
Man people who keep focusing on just one bet aren’t reading the whole disclosure, there was a lot more money long term in this scam.
This is an incredibly naive take. No way there not more to this story.
It was definitely more than 12k. It’s just 12k they think they can prosecute these guys on.
Have to have been under duress. That makes zero sense
I think they’re going to find more and more of this in the coming future.
Literally threw it away smh
Makes no sense. Tell them they threatened your family! Lol idk there has to be a reason besides few thousand bucks
$12,000 is what the DOJ can prove, they likely got six figures each. Still monumentally stupid (and corrupt). Although I doubt they were willing participants, they may have been blackmailed into doing it.
Is the whole story out there? I just cant imagine a legal millionaire throwing it all away for an illegal 12k. Were they threatened or coerced or something? Seriously crazy decisions were made here.
You think they did not drop 1mil on those bets with their own money ? Or give 1mil to a relative to place the bets ??
And here it is. This is why sports gambling shouldn’t be legal. It just taints everything it touches.
Look what Otani got away with. Too rich and popular to fail.

NFl & NHL commissioners on suicide watch.
Realistically they were extorted.
