TODD MCLELLAN HINTS AT DETROIT RED WINGS MOVES: STEVE YZERMAN MAKING SOME BIG TRADES?

Ladies and gentlemen, my wonderful friends, I have a question to you before we dive into this video. Are we going to take a trip down to the speculation station? Yeah, I think the answer is yes, because today what I wanted to do was talk about the Detroit Red Wings and the recent debut of Nate Danielson. You’re seeing it right here on the screen. Danielson has been a pretty important and noteworthy prospect for the Detroit Red Wings and their systems. 21-year-old guy, 6’2, 187 right-handed player, center rightwing, drafted by Detroit in the ninth overall spot in the 2023 NHL entry draft. Now, we’ve been clamoring and raving about Danielson for quite a while now. The past few years have been filled with a lot of prosperity for this guy in the WHL and in the AHL. But recently, Danielson finally was able to get his legs back under him and come back from injury. He started out the season with five points in four games with the Grand Rapids Griffins, which hey, I don’t know about you, but I think over a point per game in the AHL for a 21-year-old is pretty good. Eventually, Danielson got called back up and he did play his first NHL game of the year against the Chicago Blackhawks. Now, this was really interesting because if you remember just some of the history with Nate Danielson, he was a WHL guy and he was one of the top prospects in the draft in which he was taken. But another one of the top prospects in that same 2023 draft was none other than Chicago superstar Connor Bedard. And that has been chronicled a bunch. Danielson was 2023. So was Bedard. They were both in the WHL. And Connor Bard even said that, “Hey, Danielson is the guy that was the most difficult player to play against in his draft eligible year.” Out of all the centers and all the other two-way forwards that the WHL housed, none were more difficult for Connor Baddard than Danielson. It’s almost like a decade ago when Vancouver Conucks fans thought that Andrew Castle’s son Cole Castles would have been the Conor McDavid kryptonite, but that’s a conversation for another day. Anyways, Nate Danielson did make his debut in this hockey game. The Red Wings lost 5-1. We did speak about this yesterday, the quote unquote problem with the Detroit Red Wings. Connor Baddard, to his credit, did go out there and have himself an impact. He had a goal and three assists in 17 minutes and 55 seconds of ice time. Meanwhile, if you head over to Danielson, he had 1516 of ice time, zero points, but he did get four shots. So, pretty nice NHL debut, I would say. Obviously, you want to see better circumstances surrounding the debut. You want to see results. You would like to see a first NHL goal or something like that, but it’s fine. Nate Danielson’s a good prospect. He’ll have a bunch more meaningful games to come. But the reason we are making this video is because of Todd Mlelen and the comments that he made after the game concluded. You see, this was a video posted on Twitter that was quite noteworthy. He goes out there and talks about Nate Danielson saying this. We wanted to see him now so we could make some decisions perhaps on some other players. Now, head coach Todd Mlen does say in the clip that yeah, you know, if Nate Danielson was just healthy, if he just wasn’t going through the things that he was going through, he probably would have started the year out or he would have been utilized earlier, but he had to recover. though, you know, it wasn’t really anybody’s decision or it wasn’t really up to anybody to keep him down, but Nate Danielson, I think, showing off as well as he did in the preeason and beforehand, this was inevitable, right? Him making his debut on the team this season, becoming the fourth rookie to start out with the squad. Sure, MBN’s already down, but still, Danielson provides value. And you had Brad from the Wingwield podcast going out there and saying this. Todd Mlen is saying the quiet part out loud. I like it. Let’s go out there and read some of the replies here on this Twitter thread. Top comment says, “As you know, the Wings are in the process of turning this thing over to the kids. It’s almost their team now, but not quite. But the transition is filled with inconsistency as youngsters often play well enough to lose. But if you see effort and guys getting better, it’s great to see. Another reply says, “The Red Wings need to shake up the roster. Some guys are not buying in. It’s time to ship some guys out.” My worry here is that Mlen has already kind of played the card of calling the team out in the media. So, I worry that it becomes perhaps less effective if it is used too soon or too frequently. And I guess that’s literally what he is doing in the commentary that he makes here, saying, “Yeah, you know, the team isn’t good enough. Our guys are not playing well enough. So, we’ll evaluate the youngsters and debate whether or not they’re good enough to take over some of the spots of the guys that are already on the team.” Essentially saying that, yeah, put up or shut up. If you want to stick around with this team, you got to play better. But at the same time, speculation station is open, baby. We could infer that maybe some external decisions, maybe some external movement is in the cards with these sets of comments. If a guy like Nate Danielson is able to come in and he is super good and it forces the Red Wings to say, “Do we really need Burr anymore?” or “Do we need Raz Mucen anymore?” Maybe his time was already a few weeks ago. Maybe he should have been kicked out a while ago. There are a number of options that the Red Wings could choose to evaluate if they feel that Nate Danielson is good enough to stick around and to maintain a role for the long term. Now, of course, that’s not guaranteed either. We’ll wait and see. But let’s go out there and read some of the other comments. This team has decided to start their annual December slump a month early. Why is Kane the guy stranded with comfort and a random bum on the second line? There has to be a trade coming. Healthy scratch Raz JBD Anenberg something is coming soon. And then you have folks like Ray Leata Toyota saying beware Raz and Burger. So yeah, it does seem like there are a number of ways that you can evaluate Todd’s comments. Even Ryan Hannah went out there and said the same thing. The runway has just about run out on some guys in Detroit, it seems. Take your pick as to who it is is more valuable or invaluable. We’ve got this comment. 27854818. Cough, cough, cough. The team looks lifeless. Who steps up to provide a spark? They need an agitator, a Homeström, DMAC, Dino Ciserelli, someone that can get the team into a game. Now, unfortunately, Dino Ciserelli is multiple generations removed, and I guess you could say the same thing about some of these other guys. Tyler Batuzi is doing well in Chicago, but uh yeah, no, I don’t know if he’s going to be interested in leaving when he’s got Connor Bard feeding him back door tap-ins every other shift. Anyways, it’s the same problem that we had spoken about in the previous video. Ever since Michael Branseg Neward got sent down for the Detroit Red Wings, it’s almost like that agitative doglike quality was missing in the forward core. And sure, there were some other guys coming back in. Of course, Nate Danielson is back and Patrick Kane is back, but like Nate Danielson’s more of a two-way refined center with defensive responsibility antics. not necessarily one of these players that’s going to be heavy on the forche and always committing to playing deep into the corners. That’s not necessarily the role of a two-way defensively minded center. Patrick Hayn definitely doesn’t do that. That’s not his bread and butter at all. If he’s producing points, then okay, there’s value there, but nobody’s really producing points on the Red Wings anymore. So, I want you to let me know your thoughts in the comments section below. When you see Todd McClullen talking about how, hey, we wanted to see Nate Danielson so we can make decisions on other players. What does that say to you? Does that mean that there are trades to be made or there are scratches to be had or there are guys to be sent down? Let me know in the comments section your opinions on whether or not there actually are pending moves. and and and and if this video is uploaded and there happens to be some sort of an actual trade that goes down before this video is public, then I’ll come back and make another video about whatever trade is made because we have to cover our bases, right? So, let me know your thoughts in the comments section below about the Todd Mlen interview. What are your thoughts on how Nate Danielson debuted with the Red Wings and where do you see things going from here on out? Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below. I hope you enjoyed this vit 9 and bye.

  1. I think guys like Rasmussen, Copp, and a few others have been put on notice. We aren't getting any secondary scoring. If Larkin and Raymond don't score We don't get enough goals to win.

  2. I think we might be starting to see the consequences of Yzerman's drafting philosophy. Raymond is the only Yzerman first round pick that's producing the way he should, and even he isn't scoring enough goals.

  3. Wanted Oliver Moore in the 23 draft in place of Nate Danielson. Danielson is not a bad player but…..we shall see in a couple more years. Moore has a higher ceiling while Danielson has a higher floor.

  4. I don't know why so many claim that we need more aggressive players on the team when what's missing is solid fundamentals. I see a flailing team who is gets desperate and try too hard (yes, that is a thing). We need someone who is able to bring the tempo down, calm players around him to allow tempo build-up to allow the system to work as it's meant to. Patrik Kane is that kind of player. Or Kucherov. Not that you have to get a star player, but the answer to getting a team to flail less and not play as desperate, is to find solid player(s).

Also, what the heck is going on with Mo? Has he changed stick recently or something?

  5. my mind always entertains the thought of trading Bergren, Rasmussen +1 and maybe 1 or 2 draft picks for Petterson. If VAN Retains some salary of course. Do you think thats a good trade?🤔Too much… Not enough… Not Interested? Would all the players benefit from a change of scenery?

  6. A 1 year moratorium on passing will prevent the opposition from constantly taking the puck. Get the puck, rush the net. Pass the puck, $1000 fine. A pass from a Red Wing is a certain giveaway to the other team

  7. No one is going to want to take guys off Yzerman's hands so if you want to be rid of guys like Compher or Rass you better get used to the idea of one of the prospects being in the package with them if you want more than late round picks coming back.

  8. When SY signed Copp and JT back to back years to 5 year overpaid deals while at the same time drafting Kasper and Danielson..it never made sense to me. Well, the chickens are finally coming home to roost. The dilemma has arrived.

  9. We have waaaay to much dead weight or at the very least significantly underperforming players on this squad for a trade or even 2 to make a difference unless that trade also somehow can get 2-4 other guys to get moving again too. Free agency under SY has been an absolute disaster.
