Kellen Moore on Saints ‘bittersweet’ trade of Rashid Shaheed, opportunities ahead

[Music] These are always, you know, for every team they’re they’re tough decisions. Um, talk about the decision with Shahed and, you know, just what you get, what you have to give up. I mean, it’s a tough decision. Yeah, trades are really hard in this league. There’s a personal side of this thing that always uh naturally grabs you. Um, love Shahed. Uh, one of the, you know, nicest uh people you can possibly meet in the NFL. I mean, he’s an awesome person. and he’s competitive. He’s u had so much success in this league and he’s earned it, you know, through his whole entire journey in in this league. And so uh you know there there’s a bittersweet component of this. We understand the business side of this. There’s an opportunity that uh from our team standpoint feels like there’s u some value in this moving forward as far as uh the assets you collect. Uh we have some younger players that we feel like will certainly have opportunities moving forward that we’re excited about. and uh you know for Shahid he’s going to go out there and I’m sure he’s going to play really really well for Seattle and uh you know continue the success that he’s carried. I had a friend of mine told me once there’s only two things in this life you can’t buy. One is youth and the other is speed and he had speed that is rarified. Yeah, no question. Uh his his ability to separate downfield is second to none in this league. Um he’ll continue to do it. Um, you know, for us, you know, this is, uh, while a challenging time, uh, we understand the business side of this, but for our younger guys, there’s tremendous opportunity in this. And finally, I guess talk about what this does for you. And I think people probably don’t understand or don’t will forget that Luke Forner, Devon Vele, Jaylen Pulk, and Awesome Richards. you you’ve you’ve you’ve already got people, right, that you that you’ve acquired, but just talk about how it impacts what will happen next spring with this draft. Yeah. So, we feel like uh we have made a few trades that we feel like provide some long-term perspective. Uh you know, certainly with Bele, Jaylen, uh Luke, awesome. You know, those four guys on offense, those guys will um you know, we have we have a long-term perspective for and then, you know, to have a few extra draft picks in this draft is always valuable. you can see what last year’s draft class turned into. Uh, and we feel like they’re progressing really, really well. And those, you know, we had two picks that came acquired from a late, you know, trade deadline trade last year. And so, uh, we feel like this can continue to build a a young foundation that’s going to carry this thing for a long time. [Music]

  1. I thought Chris Olave would’ve been the guy to trade not Shaheed. Unfortunately he was going to be an unrestricted free agent next year. Which meant that the Saints were going to have to pay Shaheed a lot of money to keep him. I’m sorry to see him go but I hope he balls out with the Seahawks.

  2. Chris Olave:
    Games: 48
    Receptions: 246
    Yards: 3125
    TD: 13

    Shaheed:
    Games: 42
    Receptions: 138
    Yards: 2055
    TD: 13 (1 rushing)

You morons only remember the shot plays. That’s all Shaheed is. He’s NOT a WR1 or WR2 he’s barely a WR3 on most rosters.

  3. "Trades are really hard"???
They paid the same draft picks value they just got for Shaheed for Devaughn Vele back in preseason.
Vele will be 28 years old before the end of this year, not even playing much… he's not a WR2 on Saints (or any team).
I get it they can't afford (or don't want to pay for) Shaheed re-signing, but Vele is hot garbage. Ouch.

  4. The more picks the better 🔥⚜

After the recent trades involving Rashid Shaheed and Trevor Penning, the New Orleans Saints hold the following 2026 NFL Draft picks:

    Round 1 (Own pick)

    Round 2 (Own pick)

    Round 3 (Own pick)

Round 4 (Acquired from Seattle Seahawks)

    Round 5 (Own pick)

Round 5 (Acquired from Seattle Seahawks)

    Round 6 (Own pick)

  5. I’m done with this team. Mooky Doom-us has this team the worst I seen in my life and traded the best wr on the team. He is a clown show for GM. I’d rather do anything else than watch this team lose by 20 points every Sunday

  6. So let's see if we understand Moore's logic, you give the Broncos a 4th in '26 and a 7th in '27 to acquire DeVaughn Vele and then turn around and trade Shaheed to the Seahawks for a 4th & 5th in 2026. Then you give Penning to the Chargers and get that 7th in '27…back. So, we traded Shaheed for a 5th next year. That is some rebuild strategy.
