Giants fire HC Brian Daboll

Out together. Aug. I’m Taylor Bisciotti, coming to you from the NFL network newsroom with some breaking news out of New York. After a disappointing start for the Giants this season going to an eight, the Giants have decided to part ways with head coach Brian Daboll, NFL network Insider Ian Rapoport and Judy Batista joining us now Ian, let’s start with you. What more can you tell us on this decision. Yeah a significant significant day for the New York Giants after another blown lead for the Giants. Another road loss Brian Daboll was informed earlier this morning that he has been fired. The Giants moving on from the former coach of the year seems like forever ago, but it was just a couple of years ago for Brian Daboll seemed to be the toast of New York City. Now it has all changed. Yes, he obviously played a big part, Judy, in the drafting of Jaxson dart has played a big part in the development of Jaxson Dart. Just not enough wins, too many frustrating losses on the field. The Giants do have a lot of talent. They seem to have some reasons for optimism going forward, but they are now going to need a new head coach, Brian Daboll, out as the Giants coach. OC Mike Kafka is now the interim, according to me and colleague Mike Garafolo. He was a senior Bowl coach a couple of years ago, has at least some experience in this area. He now will lead the Giants moving forward. Well, first of all, this job should be an attractive one because of Jaxson Dart. You’ve got a young, exciting quarterback in place and that is always a lure for coaching candidates. But this exit seemed inevitable when the Giants failed to close out games in which they had big leads. Remember, there was the Dallas game, then the absolute gut punch of Denver, where they had the huge fourth quarter lead and could not hold on. And then yesterday, I think the feeling is that he’s Brian Daboll is a really good developer of quarterbacks, right. He had great success with Josh Allen. And maybe you would want him to develop the quarterback, but they just weren’t able to win as a team over the last few years. You’re right. It seems like a lifetime ago that he was the rookie of the the coach of the year in his first season with the Giants, where he led them unexpectedly to a playoff berth and a playoff win in the first round of the playoffs. But it’s really been a struggle since then to win games. And with the promise of Jaxson Dart with the promise of cam, who is out for this season but certainly will return with the promise of Malik Nabers, there at least is hope for the team on the horizon, but they do feel like they need a fresh start and learn how to win games. It’s got to be frustrating, you know, coming up short in all of these games. They’re now going to go with Mike Kafka. They’ve had a lot of coaches and coaching changes throughout the last few years. What is the overall goal with the team going forward? Obviously having an interim head coach now, but beyond that, what are they looking for do you think, Ian? Yeah, I would say for Mike Kafka for the New York Giants, really what you want to do is show progress going forward. There was progress on the field. They had the lead in plenty of games. There have been opportunities to win games. And I know that cam is not playing and Malik Nabers is not playing. But the opportunities have of course been there. If Mike Kafka can go out, Judy, close out some games and really showed that this talent on the field is part of a reason why they are going to win going forward, then, you know, I would say at least he he has an opportunity to get this job. It is a little bit of an audition. We don’t see this that often where the interim comes in and gets the job, but certainly if the Giants turn it around, he will warrant consideration. But really, what you’d like to do is just put a good product on the field. So whoever comes in and is the coach knows that he’s got a lot to work with next year and moving forward. Yeah, this is actually a really unusual situation for the Giants. I mean, to fire a coach basically at the midway point of the season is very unusual for them. I know that team owner John Mara hates the instability of constant upheaval, new coaching regimes, the turnover that causes. He wants stability with his team. He wants to find a coach who is going to be there for a long time. They haven’t had much success doing that since Tom Coughlin left. He won two Super Bowls with them and then. But since then it has been a struggle for this franchise. They are looking certainly for a coach who can be there for the long haul, who can develop Jaxson Dart, work with some of these young players, but certainly settle in and win some games and be there for a while

  1. This show is mostly women. Makes sense they do have the most football experience. I think more men should host shows on childbirth. You know, what to expect, some of the difficulties how to prepare.

  2. No he was fired for how he handled the concussion two weeks ago. Then the kid gets a quick concussion yesterday. Which means he had been playing concussed. This was damage control. You guys heard it from me first. I be knowing these things and should get my own channel.

  3. He was developing Dart into another brain-damaged Tua. Dart's future has more value than those losses, and Daboll was responsible for Sunsay's concussion. FOUR concussions this season.

  4. Coach Dabol and GM Shein should have been let go after the 2024 NFL season…but…NY Giants…ownership…was…hopeful…for…stability…and…metric…improvement…😮😮😮…

  5. Have to agree with Dan Orlovski. Firing Daboll was a mistake, the same mistake that Mara made with Jones. Yet having Schoen hire the next coach is a much worse mistake. Schoen put together the second most expensive defense in the league, invested a ton of draft capital in it and hired Bowen to run it and it is a terrible defense that can't hold a lead or make a play when it counts. Schoen has wasted so many high draft picks and Carter with his one half sack in 10 games looks like the next Schoen bust. Having him hire your next head coach is incredibly stupid, but that's par for the course for Mara.
