Colts’ Shane Steichen Addresses Daniel Jones’ Recent Turnover Problem

Shane, when you look at um your offense as a whole, I guess how would you evaluate Daniel Jones over the last two weeks, and I say that because people outside of your building like, “Okay, he had seven turnovers the last two games. What changed between the first eight games when he only had three?” Yeah, I think uh he’s been doing a really good job. I mean, we talk about moving the football up and down the field. I think obviously just having two hands on the ball in the pocket um moving forward is a big part of it for us and uh he understands that. Um but I still think he’s been playing great for us. I mean he played I thought yesterday he did some really good things. Obviously a game-winning drive there hitting Tyler uh some big big time plays. He had some big time scramble plays in that game to keep the chains moving. I mean, third and 21 uh there when we needed it and he got it to fourth and two and obviously hit Tyler on the fourth, you know, fourth and two there uh at the 40 yardd line to set up that, you know, the tying field goal to go to overtime. So, um, you know, I think there’s a lot of good there.

  1. The issue is not the offense. As you can see if you watched Colts games, our issue and eventually stumbling block is going to be the fact that we cannot stop the run. We were horrible against the run and now that we lost DeForest Buckner for at least four games, it's only going to get worse. We only beat Atlanta because we're playing atlanta. Zaire Franklin didn't even show up until overtime. Other than Grover Stewart we've really got no run stoppers. And we have a substandard linebacking corps. Sauce Gardener will help with the back end, but unless we find a way to stop good healthy running backs, we are going to have an Achilles heel headed into the postseason

  2. Everyone likes to criticize Jones. Sure he needs to work on ball security, but he also had some clutch plays in that last game both with his arm and his legs.
