Sauce and Quinnen are GONE! The JETS’ BOLD REBUILD Begins NOW!
And we’re coming to you live from the middle of four tough studio. Boomer science and Greg Gian audience. Boomer and Gio on the fans simoc cast across the country on CBS Sports Network and we are the free Odyssey app. Good Wednesday morning. Yeah, there’s a lot going on in sports, but I just wanted to say how great I think Boomer looks today. I think he looks phenomenal. It looks great every day, but I mean today with the navy blue and the hair looks great. And just want to say how much we all appreciate you, Boomer. How much we love you and everything you’ve done for us. and hopefully we’ve kept the pot straight with you over the years and really the impact you’ve had on so many lives. So, I just wanted to spend a couple moments this morning just making sure that you know that we love you cuz we don’t say it enough. You know, we don’t say it enough to you how much we care for you, how much we want you to be happy all the time. So, I just hope you know that at the start of the show this morning. Good morning, Boomer. How are you today? What is that all about? Well, I have no idea what that is. Is that have something to do with the third period last night? in Madison Square Garden. Does that have something to do with politics here in New York City? Does that have something to do with politics in general? I mean, I don’t I’m not really sure what you’re talking about. I’m fine. We’re all going to be fine. We’re all going to make it. We’re we’re we’re good people. We do the right thing and and you just try to live your life the best you can and and go on with it and try to impact as many people as you can. I was just projecting, you know, your I congratulated Eddie this morning. I mean, I walked in here, you know, like just like you do. If you if you lose a game, you stand up, you shake a man’s hand, and and you look him in the eye and you say, “Good job.” So, you know, listen, Eddie’s very happy this morning. I wake I walk in, I say, “Congratulations.” Yeah. I mean, so I mean, it’s what you do in this country. You lose, you got to stand up, you got to pick yourself up, and then you got to go back to work again. It’s just It was the combo platter today of the You’re not eating anything, you are drinking yellow goo all day long. You have another miserable performance at home with your hockey team. Yes. And the political side of it. So, it was just the combo platter. That’s why I just want to make sure that you know we love you and that everything that you’ve done for us is appreciated. Well, I appreciate that guy. There you go. I appreciate Thank you, Eddie. Ah. Well, I appreciate that. Thank you very much. Oh, God. Here we go. Jesus. Cool your body. Cool your bones. Balloon head. Yeah. Yeah. I’m I’m all good, man. Don’t worry about it. I’m fine. I I will make it. I will definitely make it. So, I’ll be fine. Yeah. He recorded that just for you, by the way. I’m on 1000. Why you so angry? Balloon head. Cool your bones. Cool your body. I’m not angry. So, okay. You know, by the way, like if my if my hockey team would play the way that they played the first 10 minutes of last night’s game, and plus they’ve won three of the last four. Uh I we’re going to be fine. Um they just they they can’t score in the power play. It’s killing them. And then the third period was a, you know, was was really embarrassed embarrassment, especially when Carolina was missing five starting players on this team, including three on defense. And this was the goalie’s first game this year. So, another just average goalie comes in and becomes Ken Dryden right before our eyes. Yeah. Seems to be a uh a trend. Now, yesterday uh we saw something with the New York Jets that I believe we we both loved. Now, when you’ve talked about the transformation with the Detroit Lions that Aaron Glenn saw up close, I would always add to that conversation saying that, yeah, you know, Dan Campbell and the coaches built a culture, but Brad Holmes hit on so many draft picks of his guys and guys that Dan Campbell would say, you know, this guy loves ball. We love having him here. It was a personality and a talent thing that they were able to build. So, the Jets who I don’t know how many times I’ve had to say these guys, a lot of these guys have to go because all they know is losing. They’ve been beaten over the head with losing, losing, losing, losing, losing. And I think a lot of these guys have been overrated to begin with. I mean, I we’re both on record saying that S Gardner shouldn’t have gotten a contract when he got a contract. Why he did, I’m not so sure. He was terrible last year. He was mediocre this year. I mean, Quinnon Williams is ranked, I believe, 90th in quarterback pressures this year and and has one sack. Now, I understand he’s he’s good against the run, but still. So, these guys go, you get a ton of draft capital back. And yes, I know it’s not a home run or every single draft pick that you’re going to have is going to be a hit. We have seen it so many times. Well, let’s not forget though that the best players in the NFL are also guys that have been drafted in the first round and second round. So, there are a lot of hits out there, but this is they have now the opportunity they need to build the roster the way that they want to do it. And they got rid of two guys who all they know is losing that have been overrated. Uh I I have this morning an A+ for Darren Muji with a caveat. Let’s see who you pick. But this was an A+ day for the Jets. 100%. And we talked about this yesterday morning and as you and I were getting into the arguments about everything going on around Aaron Glenn, but I I I mean they tried to win this year. They went out and they brought in Justin Fields and they tried to win. They they wanted to test the roster. They wanted to see the roster and you really really never know about your team until actual games start. You could see things on the practice field. You could see abilities. You want to see if guys are going to stick their head in there, make a tackle. Deontay Banks. want to see if guys are actually going to, you know, make plays that, you know, you expect them to make and that you’re paying them to make. So, I I mean, once you get a handle on your team and your team is one and seven and you’re sitting in a buy and you get a phone call from Chris Ballard, the GM of the Colts, he says, “Uh, I want Sauce Gardner. I’ll give you two first round picks and a wide receiver and I’ll take his entire salary.” You’re like, “Done. Sold.” I mean, these are the things that you need to do. And and it’s not a you know I I I Sauce was good when he was here. He was a he was a good jet. He was a solid person. He was a solid citizen. He was a favorite of among amongst a lot of you know young uh Jet fans. But this is the reality of the business. This is what I talk about being ruthless. Although I don’t necessarily know that this is all that ruthless especially because of what the Jets have received in return. So they got the two first round picks. They got AD Mitchell. You know remember him from a game where he you know crossed the goal line and dropped the ball before he crossed the goal line. that’s what he’s known as and obviously the NFL memes out there uh you know they were all over it and saying this is such a jet-esque player or you know type of play and so he’s going to fit perfectly that you know all of that crap but here’s the thing you know I I do believe that Dar Muji and Aaron Glenn and Aaron’s been saying like if you just listen to what people say when they when they become people in charge whether it be politicians or whether it be head coaches or managers or general man and you just listen to what they’re saying you know what the most important thing in their in their repertoire is. And in this case, Baron Glenn, it’s been the culture of the Jets. And I’m not saying that Saus and Quinnon were bad Jets. They weren’t. They were good guys. They were good Jets. But quietly, which I think is also part of this story here, Quinnon Williams asked for a trade three different times and nobody knew about it, which I think is amazing that that never really got out there until after the fact. And you know, by the way, the Jets did right by their players. They sent them to teams that are still in the mix. The Cowboys are still fighting for it. And if I were Quinnon Williams, I’d be stoked because I wouldn’t have to pay those uh New Jersey state taxes that are going to be going up. Ah, yes. So, that that’s another great thing for him. So, I would, you know, now comes the hard part. The hard part is identifying the players that you do want. And the other thing that is going to be good for them is that they’ll have a lot of money in free agency available if they want to plug some holes with top with top tier talent. Now, the other the other part of all of this, this is probably not a lot of people going to be talking about, but you know, you do see it on X because players have to put out their points of view, the Germaine Johnson’s of the world, the Bree Halls of the world that Bree is probably disgusted that he wasn’t traded and Germaine Johnson lost lost one of his, you know, best buddies on the team and Quinton Williams. And, you know, now he feels bad. So, you have the morale situation in the building. Germaine is probably going to get a contract just to, you know, to keep him happy and and to, you know, we’ll hear his press conference about how he wants to be a part of the foundation that turns this thing around. You know, that that’s all predictable. That’s all that stuff that’s ahead of us. But yeah, I I thought yesterday was an A+ for them. 100%. They had to do it. And, you know, Jet fans are just going to have to sit through another rebuild. And it actually has worked a few times. They’ve had some good drafts in the 2000s. and maybe they can have another couple good really good drafts here over the next two years. Yeah, I mean this had to happen. I mean, if you really wanted to change the team, this had to happen. And as you mentioned, the hard part is next. And what the Jets need to do, Darren Muji and Aaron Glenn and everybody else in the scouting department is have the 2022 and 2023 drafts that the Detroit Lions had cuz that is the foundation of their team is guys that they drafted in the 2022 and 2023 drafts. I mean from Jir Gibbs to Jack Campbell to Sam Laaporta to Brian Branch to Jameson Williams to Aiden Hutchinson to Malcolm Rodriguez and in 2021 they got Penny Su and Almond Ross St. Brown. So like it’s not a secret how they got better but but they also got to remember they had stability at quarterback with Jared Goff. He got off to a bad start in Detroit. You know he was on the quarterback that is going to be that is going to be the most important you know the evaluation that they’re going to be going through now. And you know, I know that they have went out to see Fernando Mendoza. And I’m sure they watched him at Maryland this past week. So, I’m sure they’re looking at him. I’m sure they’re looking at a number of other guys that are going to be candidates for high drafting quarterbacks. I don’t know if they’ll be top five guys, but most likely they will be. Uh, and that that to me, you know, because Muji was there when they drafted Bon Knicks, you know, and they said, “Okay, see you Russell Wilson, you’re out of here. We’re going with Bo Knicks and this is the way it’s going to work.” Bonk started right out of the gate, but he had Shawn Payeyton on the sideline a little different. And that team was also being built, you know, via free agency and draft. And you look at Denver and see what they’ve done. This is now what the Jet the Jets have a chance to do what Denver and Detroit have done. But more like Denver because they have to identify that quarterback, you know, and Bo Knicks was not the first overall pick, by the way. You know, he was in the middle round just like Jackson Dart. So it’s not like the the the first overall pick has to be your quarterback. could you could trade out of that and get even more assets. So there there are a lot of different things that the Jets can do here. What you know what what I love about what they’re doing is that they’re they’re being honest. They’re being transparent. They’re being like, “Hey, we’re one and seven. We’re not going anywhere this year. We got a couple phone calls. We had a disgruntled defensive tackle. We sent him to Dallas. He’s got to be happy. We got an incredible offer for S Gardner who’s going to go to Indianapolis. Going to be right in the middle of a playoff hunt, which he hasn’t been in the last three years. So he’s got to be happy, you So, they took care of their players while also more importantly taking care of their own team, I believe, for the future. Yes. And getting the roster that you want to play the football that you’re trying to play is what Aaron Glenn really, really needs to help him out because there’s guys have been in there that have heard different voices. You know, you got Rob Salah, then you got Aaron Rogers who was a leader, then Aaron Glenn’s coming in here, and it’s just losing, losing, losing, losing, losing. These guys just had to go. and the new Jets that will be coming in in the first round can really they are the ones now that get the opportunity to turn it around that these guys were not able to do and and and in order to get two first round picks for S Gardner is amazing we have seen it I I’m not saying that Chris Ballard’s an idiot the guy’s built an amazing team but maybe he’s seeing something that somebody there has to know Sauce I there’s got to be somebody on the staff that either first round picks for a guy who for a season and a half would have been I mean like he’s played like C plus football He’s got he’s also got a he’s got a friend on that team that he played with at the University of Cincinnati. So, you know, he’ll he’ll adjust there pretty quickly. And, you know, all of a sudden when you get traded for that kind of hall that the Jets have gotten, you know, and of course all of us have to, you know, react to the trade, you know, in real time and now we’re reacting about it this morning. You know, that we all give the Jets an A+ right now at this moment. If Sauce Gardner intercepts, I don’t know, Josh Allen in the AFC Championship game. I don’t care. Right. But I’m just gonna say then Indianapolis will say that they won the That’s what it’s going to come down to. So like while the Jets have acquired all this these assets and these picks and it really comes down to their decision-m now on the players that they select for the Indianapolis Colts, it’s like what what impact is he a shut down corner anymore? I don’t know. I don’t I I haven’t seen it in a year and a half. I haven’t. So, and you know that’s that’s just the way it is. But I would think that he’s going to be really incentivized to try to get back to where he was. And this is like with the Luca Donis trade trade. So when they trade Luca, you know, I kept telling you he was fat, he was slow and you know they and they didn’t want to give him $345 million. Then he gets traded to the Lakers and look what happens. Now all of a sudden it’s a whole new offseason Luca and he’s going to put the time and effort in to get his body right and take care of his body because it’s his body that’s going to make him a multi-million dollar millionaire. So same thing could be said for Sauce. I think the mind shifts you you become incentivized because you’re on a good team and maybe and hopefully and I’m rooting for him by the way. I’m rooting for both he and Quinnon but I’m also rooting for the Jets to get it right as well. Yeah. And this is uh the exact route. There is no other way to do it than this. I don’t completely understand why they signed Sauce Gardner to a deal. But maybe they I know why. I mean, you know why, too. They might, but but they ended up trading them. So, which is good because you know that contract by doing the contract early. They were able to kind of do it on their terms. So, they weren’t going to lose that much money. Most of the money was backended where I’m telling you Muji gave this contract and said, “You know what? Things don’t work out, we’re going to try to move them.” Well, if that’s the case, then great. I I think that I think it was brilliant because look at the way the contract is written and the guarantees. Most of it is all in the back end of the contract. That’s one of the things that you you know people should laud the GM for that. Yeah. I just don’t think he earned it though. That’s all I’m saying. Yeah. But he’s at this point he’s gone. So yeah, you you they had to pay him for what he did. So he gave two allp pro years. Yeah. So they gave him for what he did. Okay. and they took they kind of took care of them, but now the Colts are the ones that are on the hook for the far majority of the guaranteed money and they got that contract off of their salary cap um uh uh ledger. So I I’m just telling you that is such a win by Darren Muji by the way. Number one, he did the So all right, why did they do the contracts with him and with Garrett Wilson? Number one, I thought they wanted to buy those guys loyalty. Like they wanted those guys to be happy. They wanted those guys to support their new head coach and they wanted those guys to feel like they were part of a rebuilding process that was going on again here. In other words, it was kind of like accepting that they are great players, but also asking them not to create a firestorm in a locker room and be negative, right? Like Quinnon Williams about, right? Well, I mean, it’s it seems that Andon Williams got his money with the previous regime, not this regime. That’s right. So, so that that’s the first reason why you do it and then, you know, you don’t even think about it until it happens. They trade him to Indianapolis and then you realize how the contract is written and then you go, damn, that Muji is smart or somebody over there is smart. I’m assuming it’s him. He’s the GM. He’s got to make these decisions. And the way that contract is written and the fact that the Colts have to inherit all that guaranteed money and this clears all this space on the Jets salary cap tables, that’s an that part of it is amazing, too. Well, I mean, also I think that the Quinnon Williams trade is is just as amazing to convince a team in the Dallas Cowboys that are 35 and one to trade what they traded away uh to get Quinnon Williams. And then, you know, there’s been a lot of people that are combining what they, you know, traded in Micah Parsons and and combined this deal and that deal and thinking that the Dallas Cowboys are a complete uh disaster, but I mean, that deal is is almost as genius as the sauce deal. So, yeah, this is as it sits here today. That Dallas Well, you know, it’s a that’s a second round pick could be a high one depending on what happens with Dallas’s season this year. Uh, that would be this coming in 2026. 2027 first round pick. You know, I I you would like to think that well, you don’t know because you they’re still going to have Dak and they’re still going to be trying to listen any to have an extra pick in the top 32 is huge wherever that is. Exactly. You’re right. I mean I mean that that’s why you can’t sit here this morning I and you know and obviously on X you don’t know who’s really a Jet fan, who’s just, you know, trolling the jet van and you know what’s going on out there. But this makes complete sense. And then when you when you analyze the contract and I’m sure I don’t know a lot of XGMs out there that are doing media and everything, they probably appreciate this more than a fan does because they know that they’re always handicapped by like people are saying, you know, the Bills should do this, this team should do that. Then you got to look at their salary caps and you got to look at their tables and how much they’re spending and how much room do they have. Can they actually go out and shop and bring a guy in? And then how effective is that guy going going to be when you bring a guy in? A lot of these time, a lot of a lot of times these these trades don’t work out the way that the acquiring team wants them to work out. Like the guy just disappears, especially when it’s wide receivers. But I think the two wide receivers, Jacobe Meyers, that’s a that’s a great pickup I thought for the Jags because Travis Hunter got hurt. I don’t know how bad he is. And then when you think about Rasheed Shahed going to Seattle, I love that because I think he should fit in there seamlessly, but these other teams didn’t have a lot of room uh to make trades like this. And that’s why the Jets when that call comes from Chris Ballard, boom, you jump on it. And a great job by Darren Muji. All right, Boomer and Gio on the Fan NCBS Sports Network. Jerry Reco will have an update for us coming up in just a couple of minutes.
The Jets just traded Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams! and Boomer & Gio say it’s the right move. The guys break down why this bold rebuild could finally change everything for Gang Green.

lol you gained these picks only hoping to be able to draft players that even get close enough to be as good as the players traded were. The world can’t wait for the Jets to draft another QB like Darnold and still suck so the kid drafted gets ruined lol
Sauce is not intercepting nothing,he dose not play the ball he only follows receivers
Here we go disrespecting your former players smh.
You have left tackle, right tackle and wr. If Vera tucker franchise or sign
Draft Qb and load offense in 2026. Worry about def in 2027. At least be good on the offensive side of the ball with the rookie qb
We need to have our late draft pick hit with a little consistency and our free agents can’t just be here to cash a check.
Not sure I can take another fn rebuild. Exhasting.
Are there seriously jets fans who think their franchise is capable of using draft capital properly? Fire sale after their first win is such a Jets thing.
Boomer and Gio no longer have a show, just this radio shit now…fuk it…not listening
The jets got more picks for gawk Gardner then gardener had picks for the jets. Big fleece
Mendoza wants to be a dolphin. He grew up in Miami and hates the Jets. If the dolphins have the 2 or 3rd pick then Mendoza will tell the Jets no thanks.
Was not a fire sale a fire sale is when you sell everybody for any price no matter how low they traded two players two main players, but two players for an overpaid compensation
Absolutely LOVE that these two goobers are upset that the SA guy lost the election. 🫡🇺🇸
U thought nobody's goin to want to play for the jets then! now add the new incompetent governor that’s about to make taxes go up even higher that will convince even more players to steer clear of NJ
The NFL is socialist, Boomer was okay with that, socialism for the poor, thats when his phony ass draws the line. 😂
Listen as a Jets fan I am hurt because those were good players and we are sick and tired of rebuilding, but the Jets did the right things. We can’t act like the GM has not done his job so far. Most of the players they drafted or signed, have contribute this year: Taylor, Membou, Stephens, Folk, Moore, Brownlee, Thomas, T Johnson, Briggs, McNamara, Mauigoa, Myers, etc. We are not winning, but those are good players and depth. The GM is doing a better job than most. They just need to hit on the QB in 2027, sign a legit starter for 26 and draft the QB in 27.
I dont see this as a fire sale as much as offers you cant refuse. 8 picks in the first two rounds snd 2 players gives this staff a chance to find players that are hand picked for their scheme. Its a retooling more than an actual rebuild.
Boomer, the Jets were not trying to win games. They chose Justin Fields over Aaron Rodgers
Jets should’ve taken Shedeur! Had 5 rounds to do so. We need a qb with that swag. A young talent that can take us forward into this rebuild
All I’ve heard after his rookie season is what a disappointment Soft Gardner has been.
Not a FIRE SALE. Fire sales are getting anything to can get. The JETS made BANK on these trades. Not a FIRE SALE !!!
💥SAUCE is so overrated… maybe I watch great corners like Deion Sanders,Rod woodson, Eric Allen,Revis, Darrell Green, champ Bailey Etc 😂😂😂😂
Boomer knows his shit..
🪦 2025 ✈️ I hate this team dat little boii is tired of them son. Maybe is the beginning of the end of a struggle
Eddie retiring in a few months man
👏 👏 👏 NYJ 4 tearing it down and pivoting.
Jets fans should do exactly what the Jets are doing, don't go to another game this year.
