Why the Seattle Mariners SHOULD (But Won’t) Trade For Ketel Marte | Mailbag Monday

All right, let’s kick things off here with a question from Tom this morning. Bob Nightingale reported that the Diamondbacks are quote unquote definitely motivated to move Catel Marte, but the package will be large. Will the M’s bite given the long trade history with Arizona? What does a package look like from the M side? Yeah, Catel Marte obviously one of the best hitters in baseball, one of the best offensive players in baseball. Uh still a pretty good athlete. He’s 32 years old. Uh, and he does have at least five years of club control remaining. So, that might scare off the Mariners a little bit, but I I don’t think it will. Uh, he’s only making $16 million in 2026, then it goes down to 12 million uh in 2027 and then it jumps up to 2022 uh 22 for the last three years. And then there’s a there’s a player option for 11.5. Who knows? We can’t predict if he’s going to pick that up six years from now. Um but yeah, so overall it’s 5 years, $90 million, and that is a steal uh for a player of Mart’s magnitude. Um even if you only get a couple good years out of him, uh the thing with big contracts, this isn’t even a big contract, but the thing with big contracts is you can trade them now. Like they’re not the the albatross they used to be. You can you could trade Jim Carlos Stanton, okay? Like you can trade these big salary deals. Uh you’re not going to get a ton in return always, but who cares? The whole point is to win in 26 and 27 and Marte certainly helps you do that. He will be if he has moved he will be I think the best player that changes changes teams this year better than Kyle Tucker even. Um so and obviously you don’t have to give him $400 million. So yes, I’m I’m interested. I think the Mariners should be as well. I don’t know for sure that they will be uh but I think they probably will be. And yeah, obviously the Mariners and the Diamondbacks make a lot of trades and they just made two uh a couple months ago. So, uh I certainly think that helps and I I certainly think that if Marte is available, the Mariners will inquire. At the very least, they will inquire. They have holes at second base and they have holes at third base. Marte could fill either of those very nicely. So yes, uh there are some some road pumps here, including the large package that uh is apparently required to, you know, acquire Marte and that makes sense. So what does that look like from a Mariners perspective? They’re probably asking for Colt Emerson. They’re probably asking for Kate Anderson. However, the Diamondbacks are kind of in a weird spot where they just gave Purdomo an extension uh the shorts stop. They are pretty committed to Jordan Lawler who’s gonna play third base for them. And then they have oh what’s his name? Tommy Troy I believe is his name. Yeah. Yeah. At second base who former first round pick. He crushed it at in the high miners. He’s going to play second. They don’t really have room for Catal Marte. Now obviously if they it’s not the worst thing in the world they just leave Yeah. Tommy Troy in Triple A for a minute. Uh but uh they do have, you know, kind of the young infielders in place, guys that they trust. Uh and we do know that they are apparently looking to shed salary and they’re not going to do it by trading Corbin Carroll, right? Um so Marte is the guy who makes the most sense because you’re not going to trade Rodriguez, Eduardo Rodriguez. You’re not going to trade Corbin Burns. Nobody’s going to take on those that contract at that price. So Marte is the next logical guy. What does it look like from a Maris perspective? If you don’t want to trade Emerson, if you don’t want to trade Anderson, I think it’s pretty tough to get a deal done here. Yeah. Unless Unless you want to trade Bryce Miller. Maybe if you want to give Bryce because just the the Mariners and the Diamondbacks, like in terms of what the Diamondbacks would want prospectwise, they don’t line up that great, right? Your best prospects are in uh infielders. The Diamondbacks infield’s already young and and you know trying to establish themselves. They’re probably not going to add a ton of competition. The Diamondbacks have two good young catchers. So Harry Ford doesn’t really fit here. Uh so you really need outfield prospects. And the Mariners Laz is is fine, but I don’t think they’re going to trade Marte for a Laz Montesled package. So it’s really pitching is what you have to offer. Uh and I think something like Bryce Miller and Laz Montes probably gets the conversation going. Remember, it’s five years at least of Catel Marte. So, I think it’s something like Miller and Laz get you in the conversation. Uh, will the Mariners want to do that? I don’t know. I I I wish I could tell you, but I don’t know. But Mariners be interested? Yes. Do do the Mariners and the Diamondbacks have a good relationship in terms of trade talks? As far as we know, yes. I mean, they just pulled off two trades a couple months ago. So, yeah, I’med I would have these conversations. Would I move Colt Emerson for Catel Marte? No. Yes. It’s another one of these things where it’s something that they’ve never done before. So, I’ll believe it when I see it. Like, but they’ve also never been eight outs away from the World Series. Yes. But also, it’s it’s not just committing significant prospect capital in the steel. It’s also committing significant dollars to a guy, you know, past his age 35 season. That doesn’t seem like something the Mariners would do. The tricky part with this off season is that the Mariners have never been this close. And how much do they actually value taking that next step and going to the World Series and trying to win the World Series? And how much of this momentum do they want to maintain? Because I tell you what, if you trade for Kel Marte this winter, momentum extended. Like that is as big of a deal as you could possibly make unless you trade for like Scubble, but even then. Uh so yeah, I mean I would I would argue that Marte would be even more of a needle mover than Scubble. Yeah. Because not because you’re not only getting him for just one, you know, bite at the apple, right? Plus the difference between like Cole Young as your opening day second baseman versus you know Marte is and the difference between like and trick school. Yeah. Yeah. Well still you know massive is not it’s not the same. So it’s not the same. Yeah. They should absolutely be interested. I’m interested. Again I just if you’re not willing to trade Colt Emerson if you’re not willing to trade Kate Anderson and I don’t think the Mariners are but maybe it’s different because Marte has so many extra years of club control but I don’t think they are. If you’re not willing to do that, then it’s probably Bryce Miller or Brian Woo. And I that that is dicey for me. So, yeah, we’ll see. But, uh, yeah, if it was just about prospects, fine, do it. Uh, but I don’t think it’s going to be, but maybe I’m wrong. Obviously, it’s Night and Gale. Um, you know, so you got to take it with a grain of salt, but it does make sense for the Diamondbacks to want to trade Marte at this point because his uh 10 and five rights uh kick in in April. Uh which means that he automatically gets a full no trade clause. Trade. Yeah. Because he has 10 years of service and he spent five consecutive seasons with the same team. So uh and and apparently that’s what Night Andale brought up as a main reason the Diamondbacks are interested in in trading Marte. And so that makes sense given where the Diamondbacks are at right now. That that does make sense. So I actually kind of feel like Marte might wind up being on the move this winter. Will it be to Seattle? Again, I have major doubts because of the money. I would say from a roster fit standpoint, a fit of who has the capital to get this done, who is who is in their window. Yeah. To, you know, make this make sense. The Mariners check every single box. Every box. It’s perfect. Except for the ownership one. All right. We have quite a few more questions of yours to answer in just a moment. We we spent that whole first segment talking about Catel Marte. So, got a lot more questions to uh Yeah, of course. Your team every day. Thank you for making us your first listen and also thank you for making locked on the number one sports podcast network. It’s Mailbag Monday. Let’s get back into your questions. Ross wants to know, “Let’s say Colt Emerson absolutely destroys in spring training. Do you think the Mariners will prioritize going for the extra pick if he wins rookie of the year or have him quote unquote work on his defense for a month to gain an extra year of control? What would you each do if given the choice?” I mean, it all comes down to what are my other options, right? If Ben Williamson is my alternative, then yeah, why not give Colt the keys and see where he takes this thing, right? Yeah. Um, first things first though, like the Mariners don’t actually have to use the work on his defense thing. I know that’s more of a meme right now than anything else, but yeah, the dude is legitimately 20 years old who played like six games in AAA. So like the idea like hey we actually want to wait and see like how he looks in an extended period of Triple A like there is some validity to that. So it’s not just a pure like oh we’ll call him up on April 14th type of thing but uh I get that that’s mostly a meme now. But no and and I’ve and I’ve said that when talking about Cole Emerson over the last couple weeks I’m defense is fine but like just Yeah. Right. Yeah. Um, yeah, I think it is. It depends on what you like. If you go out and you get Catel Marte and and you know um I don’t even know like Brennan Donovan then like okay there’s really not a reason to put him up here uh that early. But um yeah, I think it’s it’s possible. Uh it’s not going to be about the numbers as we say every spring. Uh it’s not about how well you hit at the Cactus League. You have to play the part of a big leager. Like Scott Service used to say famously before Jared Kellnik hit a home run when he was not, you know, when he did not make the opening day roster that year, uh, the players will tell you when they’re ready. And, uh, you know, you have to kind of get that moment from Cole. You have to get that vibe. Yeah, there’s really not much of a reason not to do it if he shows, if you feel like he is ready for that challenge. Um, again, I think Cole Young had that opportunity heading into this last spring training, but unfortunately he got hurt. he didn’t get to play for a little while and that just kind of ended every shot he had uh of doing it. But I I assume the Mariners will enter this offse or this uh next spring training I should say with a uh idea that Emerson can earn his way to the opening day roster and we’ll just have to see if he takes it or not. So uh if it’s close I would rather just send him down uh and and you know not worry about the draft pick and all that. But if he if he shows that he’s clearly ready to go, then you really don’t gain much by or you really don’t lose much by giving him, you know, four to six weeks at the big league level and just see how he performs and how he looks and all of that because you could always send him back down with very little risk. Yeah. And again, like if you need an example of this, just point to Julio, right? Like they’ve been willing to do this before. So, if they think that Colts ready, I I think they’ll pull the trigger on that because again, like it’s it’s not it really isn’t a matter of like working on his defense, quote unquote, which again is just the beam, right? Um like there is legitimate reason to just keep him down in the miners, but if they think that he’s ready, I think they would do it. Like they have shown the willingness to do that in the past. Keep they didn’t have to call him up to Triple A. They didn’t have to, you know, put him on the taxi squad or anything like And like and like you talked about when they did that, I think that was for this specific reason, right? Was to legitimately get him ready to compete for a spot on the 26-man roster in spring. Yep. So yeah. Um yeah. So I I would absolutely do it. I think the Bears would absolutely uh consider it as well, but again, it just depends on what the alternatives are. If it’s Ben Williamson, then sure. If it’s Brennan Donovan and Cole Young at second, then probably not. Next question here from D. Panky. Uh, if Jerry and Justin were only allowed to talk to three GMs at this week’s GM meetings, what three teams GMs would you choose and why? Right. At least in light of recent events. Uh, the Diamondbacks. Yep. So, my Kasm. Yeah. Uh, the Tigers. Yeah. Yep. Who’s who’s their GM? What’s his name? Jeff Greenberg. There you go. Uh and I guess just because why not the the Tampa Bay Rays? Of course. Of course. So yeah, I mean you you got to figure out if if you can, you know, shop at the top of the market, the trade market or not. Like yeah, is Catel Marte available? Okay. What is it going to cost us? Like what is the baseline here we can work off of? Is Terk Scubble available? are you guys actually willing to trade him? If so, okay, we’re interested. You tell us what it’s going to cost and we’ll work from there. Like, I have to get those two things done because those two players would change the outlook of my entire off seasonason. So, I want to get those done or I want to have an idea at least of like what I what it’s going to cost me. I want to have an idea of that ASAP because it will not only money-wise, but who I go after in free agency. and you know the degree to which I’m willing to trade player X will matter if I feel like I can land one of those two guys. So those are the two big prizes in in on the trade market. Those are the two teams I have to talk to. Then the Rays, you know, like they got a lot of bullpen arms that I’d be interested in. Yandi Diaz would be interesting. Brandon Laauo would be interesting. Like I I think the Rays are just a team in general that you always want to talk to. Although maybe because you talk to them so much, you don’t need to talk to them this weekend. Maybe it’s like, yeah, you know, I’ll catch up later. Maybe it’s a team like San Francisco or a team that you think you might be trading or San Diego, a team you think you might trade Luis Castillo, too. Might be the other option here, but the first two are pretty easy. You’re talking Arizona, you’re talking to Detroit. Yeah. Uh, I would also throw him Bloom out there with the Cardinals. Um, yeah, it’s probably number three. Yeah. Yeah. See where his head’s at. Obviously, it seems like the the Cardinals are heading for a retooling, a rebuild of some kind. So, uh, you know, start to get those talks going on maybe like Alec Burles, Brennan Donovan, cuz like also you need to put in some, and we’ll talk about this a little later on, I think as well, but you need to put in some safeguards here in case like you don’t get Josh Naylor, right? So, like Alec Burles again, like maybe maybe do some work on him. Um, Donovan, you know, new bar if you have any interest in him, check in and see if he’s interested in trading Mason Win. I do that that you cannot hit. But he is a lot of fun to watch. He’s a lot of fun. He is a lot of fun. Yeah. So, uh yeah, you know, checking on all that. Checking on some of the relievers like Jojo Romero, Riley O’Brien. Um what’s the other guy? Matt Spansen. Checking on him. So, yeah. Um heck, how much money are you willing to eat in the Sunny Gray contract? Especially if I think I’m getting my trade Louise. Yeah, Nolan Aronado, we’re good. I’m good. I’m good. Yeah. Yeah, I’ll pass. Um but uh but yeah, the Cardinals for sure. Ray is for sure. But again, like they’ve talked to the Rays so much that do they really need to talk in person? Yeah, I I think yeah, I think the third team is St. Louis because they’re a team that’s going to rebuild. They have major league pieces and they are looking for prospects particular like in specifically they’re looking for prospects and that’s what you want to trade. So, I think it’s I think the correct answer is Arizona, Detroit, and St. Louis. Yeah, maybe Minnesota also. Yeah, they’d probably be fourth or fifth. All right, next question here from MJFB80 or Matthew. Overunders for the start of 2026 opening day for the M. So, how many of these guys are going to be on the roster basically? So, let’s start with this one. Four and a half of the current starting rotation. So basically, are they going to trade anyone from the starting rotation? Yes. Yeah. I’m going to go under. I’m going to say Luis Castillo gets traded at some point this winter. Yes. I wouldn’t say it’s like I wouldn’t say it’s like the obviously the odds are good enough that I would take the under on this, but it’s not like a sure thing. Yeah. Uh three and a half Bazardo, Brash, Munoz, and Spire. I’m actually going to hammer the over on this. I don’t think there’s any chance that any of those guys get traded this winter. Yeah, I’ll take the I think they’re just going to look to continue to build on that group this winter, frankly, and help support them a bit more than they did this year. Uh one and a half of Polo, Naylor, and Gino. I’m actually going to take the Ender. I think only one of them is back. Yeah, agreed. Which one? I don’t know. Either Naylor or Polo, probably. I I would guess Naylor, but his market might explode to the point that Polo makes more sense. But yeah, it only one of them more than likely. Uh 0.5 of Randy and JP. I’m going to take the over. I think they’re both back. Yeah. I mean like certainly one of them is back. So that’s the easiest over on the list. Yeah. Uh then four and a half of your top five prospects in the system. So for for us, our mid-season ranking rankings were uh Emerson, Anderson, uh Farmelo, Sloan, and Montis. So I think all five of those guys are back. Based on our list, I would say over. Uh based on like MLB Pipelines list, I would probably say under. Yeah. I think they’re only they have Harry Ford, I think, at number four. Okay. Yeah. And again, I’m not saying it definitely going to trade Harry Ford, but I I think they were definitely willing to do it this summer. So, I I think the Mariners will look more at the the SA Royo Ford, you know, Felman side of things, Laz uh included, but I don’t think they’ll actually trade Laz uh quite yet. So, yeah, I guess I would by our top five, I would take the over. All right, we got a few more of your questions to answer in just a moment, but first a reminder. We’re going to be putting the finishing touches on our offseason plan over there on the Patreon before we present it to you guys here on Lockdown. probably early next week. I would expect probably Tuesday, Wednesday, sometime in there. So, be on the lookout for that. But if you want to hear off seasonason plan a little earlier than that, head on over to the Patreon. Uh O line coach C wants to know, assume the M’s don’t land Naylor or Palanco with something like O’Harn and Glabber Torres a viable alternative. Sure. Yeah. Sure. Uh would the Mariners go out and address both of those needs of free agency? Is that likely? Probably not. But like in general, are both of those guys viable replacements for Jorge Palano and and uh Josh Naylor? Sure. Yeah. Ryan O’Harn this year especially like hit lefties better than he hit righties, which is an interesting development. And actually two of the last three years he’s hit lefties pretty well. Uh so that’s interesting to me. Uh, and he was pretty good even after getting traded to San Diego and playing in a little bit of a tougher ballpark. Uh, so yeah. Um, I like O’Harn. Uh, Glabber doesn’t strike out much. He walks like he’s good fit for the Mars. I don’t think he wants to be in Seattle, but like he’s more feels like more of an East Coast guy, but what I money talk, so yeah, if if you pivot, then those are two really good pivots. Sure. Yeah. Yeah. I think that could work. Yep. Um, but yeah, it doesn’t have to be O’Harn. Like it could also be Alec Burles like I mentioned earlier. It could be Ni Diaz. Yeah. Yeah. So, we’ll see. You have options at first base if Naylor’s market gets too big. Yeah. All right. Daisy and the dingo wants to know, “What do you guys think of Canzone’s respective trade values? Could one of them net you a rental high leverage arm? They feel redundant on this roster.” That’s because they are redundant on this roster like we talked about at the trade deadline. Um, and like as as we saw over the course of the season when both of them were on the roster, it made no sense. It didn’t work. So, yeah. Um, I think is someone that would appeal to the White Socks, the Rockies, the and maybe even some, you know, competitive teams as well. Yeah. Yeah. Uh but you know, teams that are looking to to that have a spot open to give some at bats to to a guy to rebuild his value and then maybe flip him at the deadline or next winter, right? And presum or not presumably but like well yeah presumably the teams that you’re talking about also would like a player who’s not making a lot of money because it’s such a low risk and and that certainly would include Naylor or sorry Naylor and or Kenzone. So yeah, they are redundant. you only need one of them. Uh, ideally neither of them are in your opening day starting lineup because you’ve added so much depth that whoever is left is on the bench. But whatever, in reality, one of them will be in your opening day lineup. And uh, yeah. Yeah. The other one I don’t think you can get a high leverage reliever. No, I think you’re I think you’re looking at a guy who maybe could be with the tweak or two, like you’re looking to take another shot. I think I I think what you’re looking for, and this may or may not be in our offseason plan, is like the Luke really of relievers, right? Who’s a guy that had a couple of good years in the past, but is coming off of a down year and you want to make a challenge trade on. So, we’ll have an example of that in our offseason plan. Some of you already know about that. Uh but yeah, I think that’s what you could realistically get for Luke if you’re looking for a major league piece in return. Yes, it is a massively scaled down Montero for Pana. Yeah. Type of deal. Can zone? I have no clue. I I would say this. I would rather have Luke next year than Domone. I just think the other 29 teams will agree with me. And so that makes trading much more likely I think than trading Kenzone because you know before this year where he had he had a couple of different injuries that really kind of drained his wasted his entire year the last two years had some eyesight things as well right that he’s now gets to work through the entire off seasonason. But the previous two years he was really good very good player. Yeah. Even as a platoon guy, very good platoon guy. Uh, so I would rather bank on that if I were the Mariners than Dom Canzone’s 250 played appearances from the regular season. But I think other major league teams will agree. So you’re probably much more likely to get something interesting for you are KZone. Plus not a terrible defender, whereas Kzone Well, you all saw it. You all saw it. Yeah. We don’t need to pile on to Dom, but you all watched. Yeah. I mean, Dom Tom had a good year, so I don’t want to pile on. Yeah. the end of it sucked. But um yeah, yeah, uh I mean we’re talking about two, you know, back-to-back 129 WRC plus seasons for this year. Obviously down year, but you can easily point to injuries and eyesight issues and all that. He should be healthy again, you know, come opening day. He should have, you know, worked through some of the eyesight stuff as well come opening day. So, he should be in a in a pretty good spot to bounce back. I think he’s a great bounceback candidate. So, uh and he hits a team park. Yeah. So, I wouldn’t I’m not in the boat even though that he is going to get traded in our offseason plan. Spoiler alert. I’m not really in the boat of like we just need to trade Luke. No, but I don’t think you can have Canon and on the same roster. No, they they can’t coexist. So, one of them has to go. Uh, all right. Daisy and the Dingo has another question for us. Last question of the day. Would you guys like to see the M’s leverage their ballpark to attract p uh pitchers in need of pillow contracts more? Some names that come to mind this year. Woodruff, Gallon, Imanaga, Mali, Mel Kelly, Gilito, etc., etc., etc., etc. Um, I mean, yes, but like the problem is those guys aren’t going to sign up to be what, a six starter swing man in the bullpen. like right now your your rotation is set. Now if you trade Luis Castillo then cool, now you have a spot open for one of those guys. But then we get into the conversation that we’ve been having a lot over on the Patreon when talking about our offseason plan. We’ve talked about this a little bit on on here as well on locked on. How much of the money that you’re saving on a Casio trade are you reinvesting into the rotation? Like does that even make sense for you to do? Are you are you actually getting better and using that money the right way? Also, by the way, uh just on your list there, uh Gallon, Ianaga, uh and Woodruff all got QOS, so they’re out. The Mariners are not going to give up draft picks to sign one year of any starting pitcher, really any player. Uh so, I mean, pillow contracts can be multiple years, but they’re usually not. It’s usually a one-year get back out there thing. So, uh, the top end guys that you mentioned, they’re they’re out in on that regard. Like, if you’re signing those guys, you’re doing it because you want multiple years, uh, of that player. You’re not looking for a pillow contract in that case. Uh, and the thing with like Mi injured, you know, uh, Gileo says he’s going to be healthy this year. We’ll see. But yeah, I think when you get to the Mali, Kelly, Gita, I mean, Kelly doesn’t need a pillow contract. He’s pretty good. Um but and he’s also like 35 I think. Yeah. Like he’s an older he’s an older guy. So he’s looking for you know the best deal he can get. But Gilito and and like Nester Cortez and Walker Buer maybe a Dustin May like yeah those are the type of guys that start to make more sense on a pillow contract. So I don’t want them to do it just to do it. But if they do have an opening, like if they trade Luis Castillo, I would prefer that they find a pitcher who’s as good or better than Luis Castillo and you feel good that that player is going to be better or as good as Luis Castillo. But yeah, if you’re going to at that point, if you’re if you can’t get that done and you want to take a shot on a guy, yeah, then the Mariners do have a really good pitch and and they probably will have, you know, their pick, so to speak, of of the guys who are actually looking for pillow type of contracts because it’s it’s the best situation for those guys to go to. And if you’re looking to replace Luis Casio with someone who’s as good or better, you’re going to have to do that via trade. You’re going to have to trade for someone who’s either pre-arb or is in the early stages of arbitration, right? There’s no there’s no way that you’re going to achieve that in free agency where it actually makes sense unless you you get lucky. Like you’re like, “Oh, we have Dustin May $5 million.” And then he breaks out for you. Sure. But like someone that I can say is as good or better than Luis Casio at the time that I acquire him. Right. Because like if that’s like Mel Kelly, it’s like, okay, well, Kelly’s gonna make $18 million. You’re really not saving, which might be the maximum that I can save on a Castillo trade. Yeah. Right. So, yeah, there’s a situation where it makes a ton of sense and I don’t see them doing it. Yeah. But yeah, we we’ve talked about this in the past though. It’s just like when we’ve talked about adding some real starting pitching depth, you know, and that’s less so, you know, the guys that you mentioned here, more so like fringe going to sign minor league contract with a spring training invite type of type of dudes. Like if they don’t have Yeah. But if like they don’t have a clear shot at making the rotation, they’re probably just going to go sign with like the White Socks or the Rockies or Yeah. the Yeah. the Pirates, whoever, right? like so they can actually have a a shot to maybe not the Rockies because like who wants to course field but like I need a pillow contract to get back out on the market next year. Let’s go to Colorado. Yeah. Yeah. The the the Rockies were a bad example. But like you know some of those bottom of the barrel teams that that have a rotation spot open and they’ll be willing to trade them at the deadline to an actual contender if they if they pop off. Yeah. All right. That is going to do it for our show. Thank you so much for joining us here on the Lockdown Mars podcast, part of the Lockdown Podcast Network, your team every day. Colobby Patode. 1. Canzone's propensity for allowing singles to be stretched into doubles drives me crazy. I can't excuse ut either, as he just looks lazy going after the ball. I'd trade him for an assistant plumber.

  2. Instead of a prospect deal for Ketel or miller and a prospect or two for Ketel, why couldn’t the mariners trade Castillo, Raley, and like Cijntje and Farmelo to get it done? And since money wise mariners would be freeing more to get it done couldn’t they just as well give the Dbacks some money to where the Dbacks aren’t taking on more money and stay the same financially? I mean the Dbacks need pitching REALLY bad now and long term and a couple to few years of Castillo would really help them, They have big 1st base concerns so Raley could start ASAP and has the OF versatility and last time was healthy had 22 HRs. And then those 2 prospects are some high prospects in our system in which I think they’d really like both of those guys especially Cijntje. Maybe Seattle throws in one more middle tier pitching prospect or closer to lower tier or maybe Tai Pete has played some OF and INF. But that seems like a fair trade to me.

  3. We all thought M's won that Segura/Haniger for Walker/Marte easily for the first years. Hard to see what Ketel was going to develop into. Same era we let Chris Taylor go for a bag of peanuts too. Cool story if it comes back full circle and we bring Marte back into the fold.

  4. Should the M’s consider trading a Kirby or a Gilbert to the Reds for an Abbott or Lodolo? M’s would likely need to kick in another piece (hopefully a prospect). M’s have not had a pitcher hit 5 WAR in a while and both of the Reds left-handers appear solid. This would be an upgrade not requiring money for Skubal.

  5. Either 200 ABs matter or they don’t. If they do Dom Canzone is a stud. If they don’t Luke Raley is likely to have a bounceback year.

Don’t understand how that’s how you guys look at it.
