Two MLB Players Just Got Officially Charged With Gambling On Games They Played In
Midway through the 2025 season, two Cleveland Guardians pitchers were placed on the reserved list due to concerns they were potentially involved in some kind of gambling scheme. Shout out to Foolish Baseball, by the way, for compiling the B-roll you’re watching on screen right now of Class A. All pitches that may have led to the triggering of the investigation. However, there were a few updates from this point to the end of the regular season. In the meantime, the Guardians ended up losing in the wild card series, partially because of a bullpen meltdown in game three. I’m sure making things a little more painful for a squad who knew they were missing big arms due to this controversy. It wouldn’t be until today that a formal legal complaint was actually lodged as reported by Jeff Passen in both a tweet and a story for ESPN.com that stated that Brooklyn prosecutors had officially called for the arrest of both pitchers on a host of charges. Ortiz was arrested in Boston and Class A remains at large for the time being. In Passen’s article, he clarified further by saying that the still alleged scheme featured claims that they were quote throwing balls intentionally outside the strike zone so that betterers could wage correctly on pitches to be balls or strikes. Apparently, according to the 23-page document, it started as early as May 2023 and later included Ortiz. The charges officially are fraud, conspiracy, and bribery. We also got a chance to see them point out specific instances of it, apparently occurring on June 15th for Ortiz, which he was allegedly paid $5,000 for, and Class A5,000 for facilitating it, and again on June 27th, with payments allegedly being in the $7,000 range for each. Again, nothing presented here is proven so far in court. This means they could face up to 65 years in prison if convicted on all charges. What a crazy turn of events for one guy and Emanuel who seemed to be on a borderline Hall of Fame trajectory. And also Ortiz, who had shown great growth in his limited time with the Guardians and getting swings and misses. Both had to have been big parts of the team’s long-term plans, dealing Cleveland one of the more unfair blows we’ve seen in recent baseball history. That is, unless they’re acquitted somehow. All right, everybody. If you made it this far, I appreciate you watching. And if you did, consider checking out any of these other videos on your screen right now for other content just like this. Also, if you ever see anything you’d like to see me detail in the video, feel free to reach out to my email [email protected]. And if I end up using your idea, I’ll give you a shout out. Thanks for watching. Terra day.

FBI going after everything but those Epstein files
LOCK THEM UP
They made the classic blunder of not getting elected to Congress before breaking the law.
Really crazy…a really good player fails 70% of the time hitting……how can you prove on those amount of outs, that none of them where ever part of a bet….this year there weren’t that many 300 hitters…… we see so many cases of low hitting % with runners on base…..great place there to fix the game, and all the stats of that game would be similar to all the other games…I know not a fix….but the odds are if you placed a bet on the Mets making the playoffs this year….how did you do? I’m surprised they can prove a pitcher threw a bad pitch in a certain situation….but then…try to explain HBP! Obviously he didn’t mean to through it in that direction….so then on the video we see…they will be sent to prison….makes sense…can’t wait for the upcoming season….remember when it was just a game??
65 years in prison? I'll take some of that action. Give me the under.
Man. Sports betting is out of control. How did it get to be like this?
We’ll get right back to that in a minute, but for now we go to the FanDuel Halftime Show presented by BetMGM here at DraftKings stadium.
The integrity of the game is thrown out the window with legal sports betting.
Too bad they aren't big money makers for the league like Shohei Ohtani . This would have been swept under the rug. The dodgers Series win was tainted.
both black lmfao
Home plate umpires should be investigated as well for clearly bad calls on balls and strikes.
So many people keep saying “What about Ohtani”
They don’t get that the FBI DOJ and IRS don’t go easy on non Americans no matter how rich you are
Those guys aren’t dumb
What do you think Ohtani is some god more powerful than Trump come on
Every time I see these conspiracy theories I realize how much people need real education
Japan is just built different
Even after huge earthquakes there’s no looting
When the tsunami hit and safes with billions of yen were washed away people still turned them in to the police
The fact that Americans can’t understand that says a lot about how dirty this country has become
They have been convicted of nothing.
Dodgers utility outfielder Andy Pages decided to swing at one of the deliberately badly thrown ball and make it a strike, this making the bettors to lose money on it.
NFL is next
Only in America can you go to jail for crimes against money for a longer stretch than if convicted of a crime of violence. Pro sports can no longer pretend that anybody is competing for championships, or competing at all really. The great unwashed want spectacle, not competition. Drama. Home runs. Wins, losses, don’t matter. Merch sales, likes and subscribes, shoe deals. Oh, yeah. You can bet whether the next pitch will be strike or ball? Hard to rig. NOT! You know that the problem goes way way beyond these count ‘ em, one, two players.
You can't take pro sports seriously anymore.
Risking your multi-million dollar career for 5-7 stacks is crazy work
Too bad they don’t have a Japanese translator to pin it on.
All sports are plagued by betting and now that society has normalized online sports betting it will all just get worse. Damn shame for those who love the game for the game.
Yall already rich af chillllll😂
I think the DA's are going to have a hell of a time PROVING these charges. For reasonable doubt to be raised, all the defense needs to do is point out that not every pitch goes where the pitcher wants it to….
DraftKings ad featuring Kevin Hart's money-hungry ass came up right after this video ended. The irony of it all. 🙃🙃
65 years for white collar crimes when MURDERERS AND RAPISTS GET LESS THAN 10.
SCREW THE JUSTICE SYSTEM.
why would you risk the millions you could make for 5 grand a time? makes no sense at all.
Another one gone ❤😂
They won't serve any time in prison. This case will eventually be thrown out but they both will be banned from MLB for life. Anyone want to bet? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Another perfect example of why I’m done with sports. No more
65 years but diddy is almost walking free
Got ads for gambling before this.
The league's knew this would happen when they made deals with the Gambling sites . Tip of the Iceberg. On Field Officials Are Involved 🤔
But yet everyone is quiet about otani
This is a distraction from the real rigging of sports. It’s all rigged. To much money on the line
Let's see if they will get half the backlash that Bauer got for… nothing
In a position to be making $100 million in 3 years and throws, forget the money, his entire LIFE away for a sum of cash that’s barely 0.1% of the contract he’ll certainly get once his current one expires.
Greed kills, people
obviously 65 years is ridiculous, but i think thats the maximum sentence not the expected sentence.
