I’m going to miss Karl so much. So glad I got to experience his time with the Cubs, all time Cubs legend for me. Easily one of my favorite players ever

The GOAT of all time.
Another piece of the 2016 WS team. It will be 10 years next season so Iâm not surprised just reflecting on getting older. Congrats on the career!Â
Top 3 favorite Cubs pitchers ever. Thanks for everything Champ đ«Ą
Nothing but love for the professor. One of my all time favorite players
Congrats on a fabulous career Kyle. I would be he’s got a job in the front office waiting for him if he wants it. Put that Dartmouth education to good use molding the repertoires of the next generation of great cubs pitchers.
Fantastic career.
Every postseason has that one âmagicalâ pitcher. That was Kyle, NLCS Game 6 and WS Game 7. Dude made good teams look silly when he was on the mound in clinching games.
This man played such a huge role in that World Series. Iâll appreciate it forever.
I also still whole heartedly believe he coulda gone 9 in that Game 7.
They call this for the strike that it is against Santana, then he gets out of that inning and was poised to go the distance
Karl fucking rules. Will always love him and his game.Â
I’ve done a super nerdy project where I documented every single baseball game I’ve ever been to while also tracking each individual player I’ve seen. Back in the day, I used to lament how I “always see Kyle Hendricks” and would like to see some new pitchers at games I go to
Looking at that document I made, I am so damn happy seeing all the games I saw The Professor pitch. Young me was an idiot.
I thought professors just kept on teaching đ

Him and Rizzoâs numbers should go on the flagpoles
Blue Jacket coming up!
Not surprised. He had an injury, and while he’s not overpowering, he’s smart, but he just didn’t have enough juice any more. I’ll always be thankful for 2016
Will never forget him walking to the mound in game 7 stoic as fuck, nothing was gonna phase him

What a treat his career was. NGL he proved me wrong. I would never guessed in a million years that a guy with his âstuffâ could become an elite pitcher in league for extended stretch. Bravo, he earned his spot in Cubs legend.
Graduation already? Thank you for everything professor.
I will miss Kyle Hendricks a lot, just like I miss the control pitcher as a role in Major League Baseball.
I love people who pitched as much with their brains as they did their arms.
My favorite pitcher retiring. Love you forever professor đ
Kyle Hendricks day at Wrigley coming in 3, 2, 1 ……..
Sign that man to do anything with the cubs for the rest of his career please. I watch old Kyle Hendricks games with my 12 year old son to teach him the art of pitching. This house will never ever forget what you did in 2016 professor.
Thanks for everything Karl and see you at your induction into the Cubs HOF
Yeah I loved watching Kyle I felt like I was watching Maddux but as an adult!
Genuinely losing one of the greats today. Im very glad to have seen him pitch in person. May retirement serve you well Kyle
My favorite 2016 player. Cheers!
8th time this has been announced
He’d probably make a great pitching coach after a well-deserved break.
Whoâs ready for the 1 day lecture next season?
Professor Emeritus
Game 6 of the 2016 NLCS is the game I will always think about. Kyle threw a masterclass and took us to the World Series against LA and All-World Clayton Kershaw.
My favorite description of Kyle came from Joe Maddon, who said it was like they were trying to hit paper planes. That feels incredibly accurate.
Dude is a Cubs icon. Heâs welcome at Wrigley anytime. Have a beer with rizzo out in left!
Everytime I watch game 7 (a couple times a year) I still get pissed at Joe for taking him out so early
I really couldâve sworn he retired after last year
My favorite Cubs player of all time. We all remember Game 6 vs LA and Game 7 in Cleveland, but he put on a clinic vs Game 1 vs Washington in 2017 and was excellent in 2016 both Game 2 vs LA and Game 3 of the World Series in 1-0 losses.
Allâs well that ends well, but I really couldnât believe when Joe lifted him in Game 7. He seemed to have totally settled in and him with a 5-1 lead felt like a football team bleeding half a quarter away by getting a couple first downs and really putting pressure on the opposing offense. He wasnât going to lose the zone, completely controlled the running game- less of a factor up 5-1, but still. In the moment, and especially in hindsight, it just felt like we started the pitching carousel earlier than it had to be.
He’s going to make for an incredible pitching coach one day. Cubs should consider “hosting” him similar to Rizzo and developing him with current pitching staff.
