Lankinen, DeBrusk, Karlsson & Adam Foote Post-Game Media | Canucks vs. Avalanche (Nov 9, 2025)
Yeah, it’s always a challenge no matter who you who you play in this league. So, uh I was I was happy to get the nod and uh battle my my butt off, try to help the team win. Did you feel any different back to back? I feel great. Um you know, that’s what I’ve been working extremely hard over the years, not just this summer, but all this past summers and got to give a lot of credit to my strength and conditioning team back home. Um feel like I can play a third game here, too. Did you see tonight a team like a lot of things went right? You had a short-handed goal. You got a power play goal, took on the best team in the league and pushed into overtime. I mean, obviously you wanted the win, but this is something this team can build. I think so. Yeah, 100%. Um, I think we played really well against, like you said, one of the top teams in the league. Um, just went toe-to-toe and and could have easily won the game. Take us to the overtime goal. Yeah, I know that’s probably the one I wanted to to get back. Uh, I was trying to go for the puck, but I I couldn’t reach it and then it was too late. for the final 10 seconds. You shot a lot of shots that it’s pretty impressive just to get it to overtime. Yeah, I mean that’s that’s my job. Try to help the team win when they when they need me the most. So, um unfortunately, it was only one point tonight, but we’re going to keep keep building here. Where does their puck movement rate? I mean, they play the game at more speed. They have how difficult is it to even track speed? They’re just so quick with their puck movement. How challenging is it against a team like that? Yeah, obviously they’re a great team with some some great talent. Um, hard to rate how how good they are, but uh it’s always like I said, it’s every night is a good challenge and a good opportunity to learn and get better. Is there anything different that you prepare back to back like during the day when you found out you’re going to be playing tonight? Is it is it different process when it’s a back to back? Not really. I mean, just just trusting the process, trusting the preparation uh that’s there. Um I felt really good going into the game and and throughout the game. So, uh, keep keep working hard here after that. Yeah. Um, you know, that’s a that’s a really good team over there obviously for a reason. Um, they come at you in waves and, um, lots of, uh, you know, back and forth, honestly. And, um, you know, I think it was, uh, good of us to get a point there. Um, but that’s not what we want. We want the two and, um, we had a chance and, um, you know, when it goes to three, it’s uh, you know, we’ve had some pretty good luck with it, but um, you know, some things uh, happen sometimes. It’s unfortunate and you uh just take the positives and um and you move on. You seen some progress in the team game? Well, yeah. I mean, we stuck in there with them uh with them, sorry. Um but yeah, I think so. I think guys are getting more used to playing with each other. There’s been um you know, more um in terms of offensive zone time and um you can tell some chemistry and things like that. But uh yeah, I mean uh with this amount of games and how it comes so fast um that happens naturally. So um I think that’s yeah, that’s what you’re alluding to. starting to like right wing. Yeah, I mean um yeah, I I pride myself in being able to play anywhere. I think that’s where I was before I came here. I played left, right, um power play, penalty kill. Um you know, you always want to be in there for all situations and being able to play, but uh you know, my linemates have helped me out a lot um there. They made it easy on me. We haven’t really been hemmed too much in our own zone. Um so I haven’t really been tested there to be honest with you. Um, but in saying that, uh, yeah, I think that if we get, uh, some more rushes, I think that’s where I feel feel, uh, the most benefits from it. But, um, yeah, I mean, you just take it day by day. You guys get a Yeah. No, it was a great play. I think that we saw it, uh, on a couple on the couple that we had before. Um, you know, I think it was my positioning was a little bit off to be honest with you, but uh, I knew it was coming this time. Um, and yeah, just I mean, I you just know you got to get it up and I got good one on. That was a great pass by Brock and we’re laughing. We’re kind of giving it to each other a little bit before that. So, it was nice to see it work. How much confidence can you guys as a power play unit take from getting that goal at a key moment in the game when you really needed one? Yeah, I mean that’s obviously a point of emphasis we feel like we talk about a lot and um you know, we need to be better there. We had some other chances too and um but so did they and um but you know, you look at and timing is everything and um you know, it got us to extra frame where we had a chance to win it and um yeah, I feel like that’s a that’s a good confidence booster in some respects, but you want the two points. What about Lankin in tonight? Game could have got away from you guys. Yeah, especially early um you know that they’re such an offensive team and they they throw a lot of pucks on the point and um a lot of deflections and he’s been rock for us ever since you’ve been here uh to be honest and yeah. No, I uh he gave us a chance to win and um he was the main reason why I got to overtime. Obviously the power play goal was huge, but we were not even in there. He’s he’s not. Before the power play goal, it felt like you guys had a lot of possession time, looked threatening at times, and seemed like there was a lot of interchanging parts as far as off puck movement. What did you like about your units just overall control even before the Yeah, I think we’re just using each other. I think that that’s the biggest thing is going to spots um moving, using our uh outs, knowing where we are. Um and I think when you have that against an aggressive man-to-man team or an aggressive kill, um that’s what it looks like. And um you know we play two now in a row. So we’re getting kind of used to the man-on man. Every team plays different but um I think that that’s something we could get better at even um you look how they play and um that’s what you look up to I guess in some ways in terms of offense. Yeah. I mean I think we we know each other well. Uh and those uh shifts we get um I think we we we do pretty well. Uh we create and it’s not we not always score. Uh but we try to get some energy to the to the team going and ozone changes and and stuff like that. Uh um yeah, I mean it’s it’s uh it’s tough sometimes to you’re playing like seven, eight minutes and um we just try to do everything we have uh those shifts we get. Um and we we uh yeah, we try to to do our best every time we get out there and uh help the team. What does it mean? Do you Sorry. Do you do you feel like uh do you like that they have the confidence in your line to put you on the second power play unit as well? Yeah. No, I I really that’s of course that’s g me some confidence uh to be out there get some puck touches and that’s helped me 5152. Um so no I’m really happy to be in that unit and uh yeah um those power pill gets and try to try to do something out there. What does it mean for you guys to get a bunch of shifts late in the game? It felt like you guys were getting a little bit more at the end of the game. No, I think we we we play good the whole game and um of course that’s um that’s and we get out there when six seven minutes left and that’s that’s just mean like he he’s trusting uh trusting us um to be out there and so of course that’s uh that’s really fun to be out there when it matters. Where does that rank among the goals that you’ve scored yesterday? Yeah, I don’t know. It’s it was it was a nice one. Um, yeah, it’s it’s up there. Uh, I haven’t done anything like that uh up here in NHL. So, no, it’s just fun. Sorry, I’m sure you’ve been asked this before. What did this when I mean overtime loss, but you went toe-to-toe with the best team in the league. You got your team scored a power play goal, you scored a short-handed goal, got some great goalending. What did this mean? No, I think that that should give us some confidence. Uh, I think we were in in the game all the time and uh I think we played really really really good tonight. um was maybe the start wasn’t really our best, but uh after that I think we we grow into the game and and uh I think we play played a good game. Of course, it sucks to to lose uh and we have to to to look what we can do better and uh but um overall I felt we we play pretty good. Yeah. How about Kevin and his performance tonight, especially going back to back? Yeah, he was great uh yesterday too. Um he’s tough. Um so I mean he kept us in the game early and uh no it was he was great. Um both Demer and and LS has been uh great for us and kept us in every game. Uh so no they are playing really good for us. Have you tried that before? Yeah I tried a couple times. Uh I think I scored uh in the HL. Um but yeah it’s just something uh I don’t really practice at it. It’s just like it’s there if if it’s if I need it. And um now it was the right time to do it. That was the only move you had, right? Yeah, exactly. So yeah. What’s the strength for your confidence when you’re playing or scoring? Yeah. No, of course it’s uh it’s given me some confidence. Um I mean I want to contribute with scoring and and stuff like that too, but I feel like our line it’s uh we try to give some energy to the to the whole uh to the whole team and u like try to get us going sometimes and like we all not always scoring but uh we try to to give something to the team every time we out there. Well, Adam, on the second half of a back-to-back power play goal, a short-handed goal, and ultimately one point, how much did you like your team’s performance on a second straight night tonight? I like I like the resilience, especially, you know, they’re a team that capitalized on slight mistakes. Um, and you saw that they did and we were resilient. Uh, it was a good hockey game. Uh, Drew O’ Conor has been scoring quite a lot lately and, you know, continues to play pretty well at both ends of the ice. How impressed have you been with him elevating his game here, giving some opportunity and and producing for your group as well? Yeah, he’s um using his body, you know, um he’s skating with the puck, making plays. Um hard to play against down low, he’s creating some separation for himself and it’s nice to see. What about Kevin? I know he’s going to be down about the overtime goal, but up until then with a team that was that skilled and him playing the second of back to backs, it looked like he did a lot of good things tonight. Yeah, I think you’re right. He he, you know, he fights. He’s he’s resilient as well, and we know he is. uh he he’s a true pro. Um you know those kind of things happen on a threeon three where you know you shoot through a forward and we kind of want a box out there. We actually and our three on three didn’t wedge twice which we’ve been doing the four previous um three on threes. We kind of got off it right um you know which I don’t think any of that would have happened but that it happens at this level when you when you want to win so bad players want to get it done and sometimes they press too much. So, we’ll readress that, but it’s it’s slight. But when you’re playing against teams that, you know, they’re first in the league for a reason. They’ve won a cup and probably should have, you know, maybe been close to another one. You know, they’ll make you pay on slight things and uh but we’re learning. Um and uh like back to, you know, Len, the guys feel good when he’s there because, you know, he he’s a fighter. With Quinn, you know, obviously was going something through something earlier in the year. It it looks like his skating is now all the way back and he’s able to control play when he’s out there the way he used to. Are you seeing it that way? Yeah, he’s he’s driven. He seems uh fresh. I mean, he’s one of those guys that’s pushing all the time. Um you know, last night he led us for sure and tonight he pushed hard. Um it’s nice to see the pace he’s got he’s playing with. on the first avalanche goal. Is that a case of the players not picking up a line change on the avalanche part to that not picking up that there were players coming in on the backside? We chased it deep with Mar behind the net, but we we we can’t do that. It was it gave him time and space. Um, you know, and uh they made room on separation. I think what happened with that is we kind of backed up as our neutral zone, which you don’t want to do entirely. want to catch speed and um you know they just had a little bit of separation. You saw what they did with it and the penalty kill hasn’t been as strong this season as last season. Colorado gets two goals on a power play tonight. Uh what have you seen from the penalty kill that maybe needs to change or is tonight just a case of the caliber of the team that you’re playing against? Well, there’s you know when you let go like that there was things that had to be fixed and we’re on our way to fixing them. I mean, I look at the chances. Uh I think they had four in their special teams and they scored on two of them. Uh you know, that one where we were chasing, we had the press going and uh it it was a slight mistake and and we paid for it. And then the last one we had caught on the wrong side in the corner, a D goes to the point. We got a forward in front and you know, there was a slight mistake there as well. The rebound goes to to a guy out front. I mean, we’ll fix those things. uh you know, but we have to think of they only got the four chances, right? Two went in. Uh a little bit of too much of a breakdown there, but we we’ll get after it. I mean, guys are trying. They’re resilient, and we’ve got a lot of young guys playing in situations that uh you know, they’ll uh the reps will help them through as the year goes by. Adam, um talk about a little bit. Tonight, you had like a short-handed goal, you had a power play goal, you had contributions across the board. Is this like something moving ahead you can really build on? Obviously, you’d rather have the win against the best team in the league, but the fact that everybody seemed to contribute in their own way. Is this something this team can build on moving forward? Yeah, I think you’re right. I mean, when you look at the way Colorado’s been playing, what they did last night, um, you know, you don’t want to look too far into that, I guess, with some some of those games happen to teams. Uh, they runs away sometimes from a from a team. That can happen, but they’re they’re they’re at a high level. And again, I like the way we did we didn’t like the start, but we were resilient. Um, I’m not huge talking about chances, but I think what we have to take out of it is, you know, with our group, we were we were even our guys had us 18, five on five scoring chances against five and five. I mean, 10 to 10 to four special teams. I mean, what we’re trying to get players to believe in is it’s working. We’re what we’re doing is working and we’re and we have a lot of young guys. We’ve got seven guys in that lineup right now. Um, you know, that are playing bigger minutes than probably they they anticipated and they’re doing a hell of a job. Um, and they’ve been really resilient and that’s the positives we’re going to take out of it and we’ll we’ll get through this. I know you probably wouldn’t admit it. Did your team do better tonight than you thought they might do? No, both. No, they they No, they did great. I mean, they’re our guys have a lot of It’s a great question. It really is. But they you guys are seeing it. I mean, there’s been a more than one or there’s been more than one or two chances where we’re start behind eightball. We’re resilient. We don’t let games get away. And you play 82 games, one’s going to get away. We’re going to we’re going to do that to another team, right? But, uh, you look at it, they they want to win. They want to do things right. And we’ll build on these things. And, um, you know, that’s the the resilience is huge. Like that’s a that’s a hockey club right now that’s rolling the right way. And and we we did, you know, we wanted the win, but uh you know, it was good hockey game.

Great fight imo. Lanks was great considering he played back-to-bck games. Couple of unlicky rebounds against, but we pushed the best team in the league to OT, unlike the Oilers lmao. Glad we picked up the point.
Honestly really happy with a point tn
Coulda been worse… could have lost 9-1
Such selke performance by petterso he too good
Canucks played well tonight…I'm happy the Abby line is progressing with a goal. We do need to make more plays east to west instead of taking the shot from the point. PP is looking really good! I would like to see Mancini come in as soon as he's able to and let Meyers have a maintenance day here and there. Maybe he will be able to play and get some reps in with Hughes. I do like Hronek with MP3 and makes him play better. Either way, I see him paired with anyone on the top four. Amazing how the two youngsters in D Petey and Willander are gelling. Looking forward in what they are capable of once they get really settled in. Hopefully Reichel will find the net soon…he deserves one.
It was a great game nonetheless to watch hard fought at least we get a point.
you're not going to win many games when you are allowing 5 goals a game which seems to be lankinen's number this year. so much for a maintenance day for demko. he's our chytil 2.0. put them both on LTIR and free up some cap room. imo they're both finished.
That was the best game they played this season, don’t even care if we lost without any points, that effort is incredible, that’s why we watch hockey ❤ against the best team they came out flying, if they capitalized on their chances, Canucks could have easily won this too. Heading in the right direction if they can keep up the effort consistently
Foote is always nice to listen to, whether his systems work in the long run, or whether he continues coaching for us after this year, he's just such a great voice to have on a team. Coach or not.
Great effort 👏👏👏👏
