I would hope for a Kyle Connor power play goal as it’s actually been a lot longer than you think since one in as I as I’m someone I mentioned last game he has not scored a power play goal in the regular season since last December almost a year ago. Just the most boring effective but incredibly boring hockey. you think the Jets will have a chance uh at the Stanley Cup? I I hope so. Uh it’s too early in the season to tell. Uh but I I believe in this team and I love the way that the Jets have locked up a lot of their talent and so I I have high hopes. Of course, we have a good chance. I mean, last year they won the President’s Trophy. I don’t I don’t expect them to necessarily win the President’s Trophy. If we win the division, I’d be very pleased, though. Uh I’m I’m a fan of anything that we can get a banner over. As Jets 2.0, you know, the only banners they got are the two that they got last year with them winning the Central Division as well as the President’s Trophy because the Jets don’t put up a uh they don’t put up a Western Conference banner. Jets arguably have the best goalender in the National Hockey League in Connor Hella. So, Canadian football is weird when I watched it. Yeah. You know what it is? Canadian football is is different, but honestly, it’s so much fun. It’s it’s one of those things where uh if you’re an American viewer, I think you’ll you’ll need to kind of get used to the rules and how everything works, but honestly, it’s a lot of fun. So, Jets have it in the offensive zone. Morsy puts that across. DLO is going to put that down. Shot by Connor is going to get blocked. Shley’s grabbing it in the corner. They can’t change as that was Orlof who shot that all the way down the ice. Uh uh Canadian football is Canadian. Yes, it is actually. And that’s where like the the rule set for Canadian football a lot of people don’t realize is that uh in a lot of ways Americans used the same rule set that uh Canada used uh and Americans just kind of changed the game a little bit whereas Canada actually stayed the the course for the most part. Uh uprights used to be at the front of the end zone in the NFL through the mid70s. It still is in Canada, although in two years that will move to the back. And three downs was the original form of football and the US in 1912 decided to go to four downs to increase scoring. So just kind of a a fun fact about it. Both are a lot of fun, but I’m just I’m a big lover of uh three down football. So shot by Pon. That’s going to get blocked as that will go into the corner and the Sharks going to send that all the way down again. It’s going to be another icing penalty. Not penalty, another icing call against the Sharks. Glad to hear that. All the rule sets are significantly different. Wasn’t aware. Uh yeah, there there’s there’s some significant differences. Uh firstly, the field is larger. It’s 110 yards long uh with a 20 yard deep end zone on each side. Uh the uprights are at the front of the end zone and the field is 65 yards wide as opposed to 43 for the NFL. Uh it’s either 43 or 53. And it’s 12man football, 12v12, not 11. And um and then also there’s something called the waggle which is where basically beside all but two receivers can be moving all over the place. They can get a full running start um as uh for the snap like as the as as the ball snap they’re at full speed hitting the line of scrimmage. So really really aggressive deep uh routes being run uh with Canadian football. It’s a ton of fun. So, and also the kickoff rule, there’s no fair catch and it is very much the traditional kickoff. There’s just something called a no yards rule, which is a five yard halo on the returner. So, you so the the other team cannot approach within five yards of him until he’s touched the ball. This is to prevent a like him catching it and immediately just getting killed. So, in my opinion, it has the best kickoff in football and it’s I and I don’t think it’s close, personally. So, highly encourage you to check it out. Makes for a quicker game. May have to check it out. It sounds more It’s very aggressive. Honestly, it’s a ton of fun. Yeah, that was quite something. Very uh very high-scoring game. I remember an 8-4 loss we had against Colorado once and we were up four nothing and then Colorado scored eight straight. That was pretty brutal. Man, I grew up with the Alowettes and all. I really want uh to like the CFL, but god do I absolutely hate the rules of Canadian football. Glad for you like it, but definitely not for me. Ah, that’s all good. Honestly, I think that’s where you may um if there’s depending on the um depending on the rules that you dislike, they’re actually making some changes to Canadian football both next year and the year after that might make you like it a little bit more. So, there’s something in Canadian football called the rouge. it’s a single point awarded where if a player um on like a return like if he takes a knee in the end zone uh that’s a single uh a rouge or if a field goal is missed and goes through the back of the end zone or if a kickoff goes through the back of the end zone or the side of the end zone that’s worth a point as well. They are changing that rule so no longer a missed field goal or kick through the back of the end zone is worth anything. That’s not worth anything anymore. However, if a player takes a knee in the end zone or is tackled in the end zone on a return, that is still worth a single point. So, the Rouge is staying in the game, but it is being modified it. And I think this is very good as um it’s an integral part of Canadian football. I don’t want it removed, but it was really stupid that you could win a game off a missed field goal. So, I’m glad that that has been removed from the game. Uh that portion of it has been removed from the game. So, um the uh uh the field will be standardized to 100 yards instead of 110 and the end zone will be shortened from 20 yards to 15 and the uprights will be moving to the back of the end zone. So, in a lot of ways, the the field will look a little bit similar to the NFL. Still very different though as it’s still a very wide field and those end zones are 15 yards deep. Um but uh but so it’s still going to be the Canadian game, but there are going to be certain things that are are more aligned. But I I still love the the what’s called the waggle. All the pre- snap motion’s going to be there. Defense has to line up a yard off the ball. I still love that. So, there’s still a lot of things that are going to make Canadian football Canadian. So, um even if uh Canadian football rules you you’ve been a little bit unsure about before, I hope you give it another chance uh as next year they’re making all of the rule changes and in 2027 is when the field dimensions will actually be altered uh to the updated dimensions. New uh Ranty New York Rangers. How do you feel about the change to the CFL? Uh to be honest, I I’m indifferent about them. I I don’t uh I don’t see myself loving it more than I already do, but I also I I a lot of people are talking about how it’s gonna alienate their fan base. I don’t think so. Like for me, I I I love the 12man with the waggle threeown football. And that’s all saying there’s a lot of things that will keep Canadian football Canadian. Um the Rouge change was necessary. I absolutely have been wanting that for a while. um benches now are mandated to be uh like sidelines going to mandate be on opposite sidelines where it mostly was but there were a couple stadiums where they’d be on the same side. I’m glad that’s been changed. Um that’s just needed to happen. Um moving from a 20 second uh play clock blown in by the officials to a 35 second automatic play clock. For context, the NFL uses a 40 second automatic play clock. So I’m I’m fine with that changes to be honest. I I I like the consistency. Um uprights at the back of the end zone I’m going to need to get used to. I’m used to them at the front. Uh so that’s that’s but I’ll put it this way. I’ve never watched a college football game or an NFL game and be like, “Man, this game sucks because the end the uprights aren’t at the front.” So I think uh I think I’ll get over it. The only thing that that I do kind of uh miss I’m okay with them going to 15 yard end zones. That’s fine. I I will miss the 55 yard line. There was there was this weird novelty that in Canada we have a 55 yard line. It’s such a strange thing if you really think about it cuz like 100 yards it just kind of makes it’s a round number whereas 110 is just like yeah but we want that little bit more you know. So I I will miss the I will miss the 55 yard line as uh when I played football in high school I played uh on a 55 yard line. So but it is what it is. I um I I I’m assuming some of these changes that they’re making are so that way a Canadian football field will fit in more uh more stadiums. Did they change it to four downs? Oh, no. They would never change it to four downs, I’m going to put it this way, is out of the question. the CFL would the established fan base. I I’m not going to lie, there’s a lot of people saying, “Oh, we’d cancel our season tickets uh with the changes they made.” People aren’t really doing that. There might be a couple people here and there, but it’s not really anything noticeable. If they change to four downs, I think you would see a very a large alienation because what makes the CFL viable is that it acts as a bit of a feeder to the the NFL in a way, but it also is a distinctly unique game, which can make it appealing. As if they just changed to an NFL rule set, then I think I think that would be problematic as you’re losing your identity. The fans that that the CFL does have in the United States, because they do have some would kind of stop watching because it’s like, well, why do we this is I can go watch NFL or college and it’s the the same thing. So, all in all, I I think changing to four downs would be foolish for the CFL. I’m not saying the NFL should go to three downs. I’m not I’m saying the CFL three down football is their identity. And if you watch some of these games, there has been some highly entertaining games and it’s three downs. It forces an aggressive aggressive offense and I love it. Why is three downs better than four? So, this is firstly I want to say this is my opinion. Uh I don’t believe that every league has to be three downs. I’m just saying I love three down football. So, firstly, it you you need a you need a damn good running back with uh three downs because if your running back averages anything less than five yards, he’s not very it’s not viable really because you got basically two downs before you’re punting. So he’s got to get at least five on first down if you’re running the ball. So there’s that. Secondly, I with the waggle and them being able to go way deeper down the field a lot quicker because remember they’re hitting the line of scrimmage at full speed instead of at a stationary position that works well in conjunction with three downs because again because you have less downs to work with it forces offensive offenses to be more aggressive. They’re looking for that deep ball a little bit more often than you’ll see in the NFL. You can’t make a lot of these safe three yard, three yard, four yard, three yard, three yard, four yard plays down the field. You got to be bold and a bold offense can just be a lot of fun to watch and it forces your defense um your defense um your defense can just kind of continue playing the way they are and and uh again I like the 12man format for for defense. A lot of zone defense. You see some man defense occasionally, but zone defense is huge in the CFL. probably better uh better not to. The NFL keeps changing the rules and the refs keep screwing up the calls. I will say refs screw up calls everywhere, but I’ve heard a lot more complaining from the NFL in that regard than the uh the CFL. But um but yeah, I I just think it’s important to have a have a unique identity. A lot of people saying that that identity is gone. Um and I I I just I just don’t buy that. I just I just find that kind of nonsense. I think there’s a lot that still makes it unique um and still makes it a Canadian game. And so I I I hope that the changes that Commissioner Stuart Johnston made uh work work out for work out for the best. I actually applied today. There’s a meet the commissioner event going on. The Grey Cups in Winnipeg this year. I’m going to be there uh at the Grey Cup. Spent a couple hundred bucks on the ticket and um and yeah, and so I’m I applied to go to a meet the commissioner event. So, um it depends if I get an email back that I got it because, uh with with that event, it’s actually um only only a select amount of people are going to be able to go. Uh so, you have to actually like apply and then if you get to go, sweet. And if you don’t, then sucks to suck. I’m hoping they’re talking about Matthew Schaefer right now in the um which is funny because they’re not he’s not playing right now. This is Jets versus Sharks, but they’re they’re having a chat about Matthew Schaefer. So, was Brady injured? Um why did we not use him? If not, uh this has been a running problem with Jason Hogan’s Blue Bombers offense all year. is the mixed you I’m going to say the mixed use of Brady Olive because he’s had a few games where you’ve used uh Olivea a lot. Um but Brady Olivera for those who are wondering he’s the running back for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. See he won most outstanding player um last year. Um and he’s just a fantastic running back. Uh Jason Hogan just hasn’t used him as much. That’s been one of my main criticisms of Jason Hogan is the misusage of Brady Olivera. When you have a superstar running back, use your super your superstar running back. He’s just fantastic and I believe he’s misutilized him. A lot of people are calling for Jayce Hogan to be fired. I am indifferent on it. If they decide to let him go, I I’m I don’t have an issue with it. If they decide to keep him, I’m okay because a lot of the problems I see with him as an offensive coordinator are not from a he is just the worst ever. It’s just that he’s just he’s just green. He’s just new. And so I think he’s just kind of making rookie mistakes. And so I think potentially with some more time he may kind of grow into that role a bit better than he has it right now. I have a theory about hockey that it’s going to become one of the world’s biggest sports in the next couple decades. That is a hot take. It is a hot take. I I hear me out. Okay. With the way social media is going, with the way food delivery is, you order a burger on Skip the Dishes or whatever the heck you use, it comes in the next 20 minutes, assuming they do it quickly. You order shipping express, it comes overnight from across the world. Whenever you want something, you look it up on the internet, you get it pretty quick. You have a question, hey, Google this and that. The only sport that I can think of that keeps up with that pace of demand is hockey. with how fast that sport is and how entertaining it is. I can’t think of another sport that keeps up with the same amount of entertainment as a YouTube short when you’re I will say there is there is out of all of the major sports.
