Can the Red Wings fix their bottom six? | Patrick Kane practicing

Today on Lockdown Red Wings, the bottom six is struggling to score goals. Is there anything the Red Wings can do to shake it up? You’re Locked on Red Wings, your daily podcast on the Detroit Red Wings, part of the Locked On podcast network, your team every day. Welcome back to the Locked On Red Wings podcast. We are your hosts, Brian Fischer and Scotty Bentley, part of the Lockdown Podcast Network, your team every day. And you can listen to us wherever you get your podcasts. Scotty, the Detroit Red Wings are 9 and5 to start the season. They will be hosting the New York Rangers tonight as they return home from their fivegame road trip. And we wanted to take this moment, right? Yesterday we talked about the road trip and what are some of the key takeaways? And one of the key takeaways we waited till the very end of the episode to share was how the bottom six has been struggling to score. And that is the reason we waited to talk about is because we wanted to extrapolate and expand upon that in this episode because while they’re struggling to score, at least one of those two lines is at least getting opportunities. And we wanted to talk about how can the Red Wings mix it up potentially to try and create more scoring amongst the bottom six. But before we get to any of that, I got to let you guys know today’s episode is brought to you by FanDuel. Download the FanDuel app now by visiting fanuel.com and win $300 in bonus bets if your first $5 bet wins. All right, Scotty. When Patrick Kane got hurt, right, and then they sent Michael Brandsegard down, that left the Detroit Red Wings with 12 forwards. the perfect the exact perfect number of forwards that a team needs in order to play a game of hockey. You can go 11 and seven, but most teams run just the 12 forwards generally speaking. Austin Watson was called up for two games and then sent back down. Never saw the ice. So in that span since the Kane injury and the MBN uh NBN reassignment to Grand Rapids, the bottom six has been JT Confer, Andrew Cop, and Jonathan Baragren and then Elmer Soderblum, Michael Rasmusen, and James Van Remdikeke. Those two those two forward lines combined have scored two goals for the Detroit Red Wings in that span which I believe for one actually I have it up here it is six games for the one and seven games for the other. Seven games for the fourth line six games for the third line when they playing together each over 50 minutes of ice time for both lines. one each line has one goal for. Now, a lot of fans are going to may think, okay, what’s the bottom six? You don’t need a lot of goals. That is true. It’s your depth scoring for a reason. But, as you know, the Red Wings have one of the worst goals percentages in the league despite their good play. And a lot of that has to do with the bottom six struggling to produce in that time. So let’s look at the numbers first before I pose the question to you Scotty. The fourth line for what it is worth with Michael Rasmusen at center has really has created a lot of opportunities in that sevename span despite the only one goal four. They have a 68% expected goal share of and that is the best of any one of the lines that the Red Wings put out there. Now, take grain of salt, right? That’s minimum 50 minutes, by the way. Not counting like the 10 minutes. Some lines may play together one game here or there. Minimum 50 minutes. It’s the best expected goal share of the team, but take for granted that’s half the amount of minutes that Lark and Raymond and Finny have played. And the fourth line plays against the weakest competition. But they have the best expected goal share in every game. You see them dominate and creating opportunities. They have the best Corsy, the best shot attempt share as well, but just one goal for well having no goals against. So they are producing a lot of opportunities and just not finishing on them. Big problem that the Red Wings have had. The third line with Cop and Coner and J and Jonathan Baragan cannot go cannot say as much. They are getting crushed analytically and expected goals. They are the worst forward line with an expected goal share of 37% with a minimum of 50 minutes played together. Yikes. The worst. They have one goal for and one goal against. And you may think, okay, well, they’re a matchup line. Defensively, they’re pretty good. Not good enough to warrant the lack of offense that they are producing. They have the second worst expected goals against on the team with 2.9 in 55 minutes played together. That’s second worst only to Larkens line, which again double the amount of minutes. Uh so of course that accumulates more expected goals over the time and the toughest match. Quality of competition, right? Right. quality of competition and the amount of time played together. So, it’s it comes down to this, Scotty. What can the Red Wings do to shake up the bottom six and try to get more offense? Well, I think immediately it’s only fair to bring up that when Patrick Kane returns, even though he’s an addition to the top six, that will in theory bump somebody down and you’ll get an addition. I know before we hit record you had mentioned um you know like if Appleton is still a guy that you pencil in up there then he falls and and whatnot. So I that is hopefully on paper that helps you immediately right you get not only the Patrick Kane offense uh in the top six and on the power play but you also get Appleton in there on the bottom six. Not that that’s like going to save your scoring or anything down there, but it it can still be a step in the right direction. So, I want to point that out. To me, I am kind of over COP and comp for having to be on the same line. Um I I think center depth has been a problem. Well, for like a decade now, I guess if you want to get technical, but like that that’s a an issue that has been following the wings over the last few years. And not that again, the the fourth line has been fine with its limited ice time, but it’s not a a line that’s been producing a lot either. And I I just And and the question to that, how long do you allow expected goals until how how long do you give it before it turns into real goals or you decide to break it up? Cuz they play they’re playing really good. They’re just not scoring. And like at a certain point like okay, we do need scoring from for sure. Again, it’s limited ice time. It’s the fourth line. I get that. Still, I just I I feel as though I would rather have like Tomur be the fourthline center than a third line winger at this point, man. I I I it gives you the opportunity to throw somebody else up on the wing. Um it can move Ras Muen to the wing, which I think he’s more effective at, and he has been really ineffective so far this season. um like that that might be a two birds one stone, you know, situation there where you improve yourself even if it is marginally up the middle while also getting Ras Mucin maybe into more of a a natural production position there. Um, I mean, heck, you can even leave Ras Muen on the fourth line and just have Soder Blom and Ras Muen on the wings and comfort up the middle and just create, you know, massive hockey out there. I don’t know. But I I I feel like that’s where I would start at least is just I am I I am very much over like, oh, it you know, cop and confer like we got to get the most out of them. So, one’s got to play wing and one’s got to play center and they got to be together. I’m I’m really over it. Yeah, I think that I agree with you on that one. Going back to what you said, I think that Appleton getting pushed back down into the bottom six with Kane returning when Kane returns. There’s no guarantee he returns on Friday, but he’s a maybe at this point. He’s practicing, taking part in line rushes. Appleton I think is an easy just boots Jonathan Baragren out of the lineup puts him on the third line and that in itself maybe could chemistry could be a little bit better. I think Appleton’s a better overall player than Barren at this point in time. Um and I want to give credit to Barren too like because he is trying like he’s taken Todd Mlen’s Todd Mlen’s advice or uh not advice but teachings very seriously. There’s nothing that says it’s not Baragin on the fourth and Ras Mucen gets healthied either. Like that that’s I I don’t think we’re like that far away from that. Ras Min’s been healthied already one time this year in whatever 13 games. For me, it just comes down he he scored goals in backto-back games, but overall he’s relatively ineffective. But he is trying. Like I can see him engaging in board battles. I see him uh I see him backing. He’s broken up a couple plays, but like Bergen’s the type of player who you need offense from and he still mostly plays a perimeter game. He doesn’t really drive to the net very often and that and that cop comfort line needs speed and Appleton gives you good speed north and south. So, I think Appleton could make the third line a little bit better cuz really the third line is the biggest problem right now. The fourth line, I’m okay with keeping it as is for a little bit longer because it is producing chances, but that third line is is something else. And I agree with you about breaking up cop and confer, but I know we’re getting to a break. I I’ll talk about that when we come back. Before we go to break, I it looked like you had something you wanted to say in response to what I was saying. No, the only thing I I wanted to add like I mean at some point you’re just splitting hairs, but I mean Barren has at least scored like is is offensive minded at least has scored like at like I don’t know. I I think if you’re really comparing him versus Ras Muen, especially if you’re talking about at a wing spot, right, if you’re talking about center, then obviously it’s just going to go to Ras Mue. If you’re talking about, you know, who would you rather have on the fourth line in on a wing, I I really am not even sure that it is clearly Rasmusen just because of the fact that in 9 to 10 11 minutes at least you give yourself a chance to produce a little bit of offense down there on the fourth with a line that has been creating some some chances at least. I don’t know. Again, you’re you’re just splitting hairs at some point. Clearly something needs to be, you know, shaken up in that. I will say regarding Ras Muen, and I’ll get get to that when we come back, but there is one thing that Ras Muc does really, really well that helps this team that could keep him in the lineup over Bearr. So, we’ll get to that on the second on the other side of this break. So, stay tuned to segment two of Lockdown Red Wings. Let’s be real, making excuses doesn’t solve anything. All right, we have two kind of conversations I want to have here in response to things that you’ve said. I want to talk the comp and comper thing, but I want to talk talk the bearrin conversation too. So I I think because we finished segment one talking about the bearren rasm conversation. I’ll start there and then loop back to comp cop and confer with Jonathan Jonathan Berrren. you get a guy who you can put on power play unit two, but in practice today we saw a little bit of a shakeup with Patrick Kane returning to the practice. I think Ansar Khan was the one who had tweeted out that EMTT Finny was rotating in on the flank for where Baragerna was because of the fact that Kane is back. You also had ASP on the flank as well with Johansson as the point man. So that p power play is for conversation on its own when we get to that game preview, but the little extra value that Baragren really gives this Red Wings team is on the power play. And that’s where one of his two goals has come from is on power play unit two. But I don’t think the value he gives power play unit two is more than the value that Michael Rasmusen gives the penalty kill. Michael Rasmusen may be, if not is your best penalty killer. And the data backs that up. You know, his his his hockey stat card is nothing to write home about. I’ll throw it up on the screen for people who are watching on YouTube. It’s not very impressive except for in the penalty kill. He is an exceptionally good penalty kill forward. and the penalty kill has been doing performing so well this season in large part because of everyone but his contributions on the PK and I think that in of itself is enough of a reason to keep him on the wing on fourth line and then deploy him in those penalty kill situations. That for me is where I’m coming from when I have Baragan scratched and Michael Rasmusen still in the lineup. But I don’t disagree with you that the gap is that big either because we’ve seen him get scratched and he is pretty largely ineffective at five on five. I feel as if a lot of the fourthline success, and maybe I’m being too generous with this comment I’m about to make, but I feel a lot of the fourthline success comes because of the presence of Elmer Soderblam, who has been very, very good on that fourth line at with on the forche, using that long reach to intercept pucks and keep plays alive in the offensive zone while also not learning how to throw the body. Elmer Sodblum has been very good since his return to the lineup in an effort to maintain a roster spot to the point where when we talk breaking up Cop and Comfort with Cop going to the fourth line and Michael Rasmusen possibly moving to the wing. Well, that pushes one winger out and opens up a wing a winger spot on the third line. I think Elmer Soderblam has played well enough to earn more minutes on the third line. And let’s not get it twisted. The jump between the fourth and the third line in minutes and competition is actually quite a bit. It’s the difference between like 8 minutes a night and 12 minutes a night and that’s quite a bit. So I think Elmer Serblum has kind of earned that right to play and get a chance on the third line with Cop and in my opinion Appleton when Appleton is you know moved down the lineup when Kane returns. That’s my third line. My fourth line in that case then would default to Confer JVR and Michael Rasmusen on the wing. Yeah, I I’m I’m totally in favor of that. I I think um I think the point you bring up about about Ras Mutin on the penalty kill is a super fair one and I I think that’s honestly enough to give him the edge going forward. Um yeah, man. I I mean I don’t I don’t dislike that third line either and I I would love to move JVR up, but as we talked about earlier this week, I mean he just looks like the the skates are are kind of gone. So, well, JVR would still be on my fourth line in that instance. Or you No, no, that’s my point is like I I would in a perfect world I would love to add, you know, potential offense to to give him more minutes, but like that is, I agree with you, just not feasible. So, I think he’s probably down there on the floor. Yeah. I I don’t I don’t hate it at all. I I think that that’s um again if there is a world in which they are also in favor of splitting up cop and confer I I think that it probably does look something like that and if if again assuming Patrick Kane is back too. Um it’s just that that’s a lot of ifs and we’ll see maybe they they’re just going to stick with uh cop and confer next to each other but I I I’m really tired of it to be honest with you. I’m I’m I’m super over it. Well, and like I know they like keeping Cop and Coner together because the they can deploy them in tough matchups. They’re both defensively responsible, but they’re just black holes offensively right now because both of those players have like very little foot speed. And Barren’s not the fleetest of foot either. I wouldn’t even call him fast. Um Soderblam’s not fast, but he’s long and he has the reach to hopefully keep plays alive in the offensive zone. Uh Mason Appleton plays with pace. It gives your third line a little bit of extra offense while maintaining, you know, some defensive responsibility with both Appleton and Cop on that line as well. So, it still can be a line you give more difficult matchups to, but maybe would with Appleton winning races to the puck, Serblum using his reach to intercept pucks, and then Cop’s IQ, maybe you get a couple more goals out of that. And like the fourth line you’re given that eight minutes a night to, I don’t think that they’re going to be so terribly I’d rather have a good third line than a good fourth line. Let me put it that way. Yeah. Well, yeah. Right. More minutes. Yeah, for sure. Like the fourth line is producing a lot of opportunities right now, but they get like eight minutes a night and the third line’s getting really difficult matchups. like the second probably the mo second most difficult in terms of deployment next to the first line which does impact those things but you need more offense out of that third line Scotty here’s a wrinkle for you here’s your here’s your wild card to the conversation Nate Danielson call him up you got the roster space call him up insert him as either the center or the winger on the third line now at this point you’d have to bump out two players because with Kane coming back and bringing in Nate Danielson but doing that to start the year. Anyways, with MBN up, Nate Danielson is young. He’s ready for the NHL. He’s over a point per game with Grand Rapids since his return and looks wholly mature enough to play at the NHL level, whether it’s at center or at wing. He has pace and a two-way game and incredible hockey IQ. If you want to make the third line have a higher offensive ceiling, I Nate Danielson, I think, provides that. Yeah, I’ll tell you what. I’m not only in favor, I’m putting him right up the middle, man. I I I’m not even hesitating with, oh, we want to, you know, start him off on fourth wing and then like like I am immediately if he’s called up, I’m putting him at 3C and not thinking twice about it. you can put cop on the line with him, gives you a veteran that’s good defensively and and can kind of bail him out in those situations if needed, you know, but like Danielson’s uh is is advertised as a good two-way player that’s not going to be a traffic cone on either end of the ice. Um I mean, heck, like maybe even helps you with like the in the faceoff circle long term depending on how that translates to the NHL. like I I I I would do it immediately. I I would do it immediately. I would not think twice about it. I think a third line of Danielson, Appleton, cop, you could do a lot worse and I think that there’s a chance that that scores a little bit more offense. And then fourth line, you can just keep the the big bodies out there if you really want and do a uh comper Rasmusen sodlom fourth. I I I mean it gives you options and it gives you depth. I I I Yeah, I would have no issue with that whatsoever. Right. And you know, is there a better safety net on the forward core than Andrew Cop when it comes to like defense, right? and faceoff circles. You know, you still provide him with another center. You still have the lefty righty matchup you can do uh like you like with JT Confer. So, you can do it depending on wherever the faceoff is, which center you want to put in the dot. And you know, next to Dylan Larkin, I don’t think there’s a better mentor, safety net as a center. I mean, Andrew Cop is one of the best and most outspoken leaders on the locker room. So putting him with I I and that’s the thing with J Andrew Cop, right? The lack of production is so frustrating. It sometimes looks like there’s like lead in his feet when he’s skating, let in his skates, but he’s very smart. He’s very outspoken. I think he’s I would imagine he’s pretty well respected in the locker room. He’s worn an A for this team. And he’s very strong defensively, so that can help cover up for mistakes if Nate Danielson has them. So I think there’s a lot of reasons to like that. I don’t think we’ll see it this weekend with New New York Rangers and the uh Anaheim Ducks on Sunday, but I think it is something that we could see at some point this season because Marco Casper started out on the third line last year and Mlullen has said it. He thinks that we’ll see Nate Danielson sometime this season. So, I think with him it might just be like literally until they deem that he’s had enough AHL games to be like back to full speed, but he’s looking like it pretty early here for sure. Scotty, let’s head to a break. When we return, we’ll do a quick preview of both the Rangers and the Ducks game. Stay tuned to segment three of Lockdown Red Wings. Scotty, the Red Wings host the Anaheim Ducks, Anaheim Ducks on Sunday, but the New York Rangers first tonight at uh 7 o’clock at LCA, first game back from the road swing. And uh Vincent Troche will not play for the New York Rangers. And the Rangers are off to a really weird start. They’re 66 and two so far this season. Not a single one of those wins has come in New York. Of course, this game’s at LCA, so I guess maybe they’ll have a better shot at winning this hockey game, but they are definitely not up to the start that the team had hoped. New captain, new culture, new mentality, offloading some of their other players, getting Crider out of the locker room, getting Trouba out of the locker room before last season. They’ve been weird. They’ve been kind of mid, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything in the NHL any given night, right? Like you say that and obviously you’re right. They they’re 66 and two, but like the fact that you can say, man, like a lot of stuff’s gone wrong, like not the start they were looking for, and they’re like a win away from being an over 500 team, I I think is a testament to still how talented it is and how high expectations were for the Rangers. I mean, they they’re coming off of a loss to Carolina where they got shut out. Before that, they went 3-0 in consecutive games. That’s a weird way of saying they went on a three-game winning streak against Vancouver, Edmonton, Seattle. Like, they they have the ability to beat the best teams in the NHL. Um, so this is very far from just like, oh, they’ve gotten off to a rough start, so like, you know, this is not the same. Like, record might not show it, but this is a a talented team. Obviously, I think a lot of the conversation is going to surround I mean, for starters, just the Wings being back at home, which is awesome, and hopefully that gives them a little bit of, I don’t know, momentum, if you will. Uh, but the weirdest thing about the Rangers up to this point is the fact that they have the fewest goals scored in the entire NHL so far this season. and also the fewest goals allowed so far in the NHL this season. They literally are first place in goals against and 32nd in goals for. So they’re let me let me add to that too. They are dead last on the power play. So that is part of the reason why they’re dead last in goals scored. But they’re top 10 in the PK. They’re ninth in the PK where the Red Wings sit fifth currently. They also have the third fewest pimps. So like they’re not on the penalty kill a ton either. I mean this is a team that has Adam Fox, it’s got JT Miller, it’s got Artame Paneran, like Mikas Benagad, like there are guys Vintage Troche who again won’t be playing. There are guys on this team who can score goals. So, it’s one of those situations where you know the dam is going to break, especially when they’re top 10 in both shot attempts and expected goal share. So, this is a team that should be scoring a lot more than they are. We talk about finishing. They’re far worse than the Detroit Red Wings. So, you can’t kind of like we were talking about with Anaheim and San Jose, like you cannot take that team for granted because they’re due they’re due to start playing better. I don’t know how good the Rangers actually are going to be when they’re playing their best hockey, but they’re the it’s s it’s it’s very clear, if I could get the words out, that they should be scoring more goals than they are. Their shooting percentage as a team right now at five on five. Let’s see what that looks like. It’s probably not very high. Uh it is seven less than 7% of five on five shooting percentage. And that is combined with the league’s worst power play. And again, like for all the that that we’re talking about offensively, they literally have allowed the fewest goals in the entire NHL. Like they they’ve received great goalending from both goalies. The defense obviously has been solid as well. Um so yeah, it’s it’s a it’s a weird team to to preview and to profile, but I think that this is a situation where if you’re the Wings, you just want to go in and and take care of business. You Well, you just want to Yes. you want to take care of business. You want to look how you have in terms of giving yourself a lot of opportunities and not getting and like honestly maybe that’s like just the only focus. Just give yourself a lot of opportunities at the net and in theory you’re going to put yourself in a position to win because you shouldn’t have to worry about a a crooked number against you. But you know it’s hockey so you say that and then the Rangers will score eight. But, um, yeah, I I think that this is a a game, especially again with all the kind of excitement about returning home that, um, you should go in and be able to, as you said, take care of business. And then the Ducks is there’s not too much to preview because that’s a rematch of a game they just played. It’s just at home this time. Um, the Ducks have stayed hot. They are one of the hottest teams in the NHL to start off the season. They’re young, they’re fun. uh new coaching obviously this season has clearly been somewhat of a factor in that and yeah, you’re hoping that you can uh that you can go out there and and write that wrong. But this is not just like oh it’s the Ducks like this is a an opportunity to win and and you know no matter what type of thing especially at home like this is clearly a Ducks team that is a different vibe to it this year. Yeah, they are. They’ve won four games in a row. Obviously, one of those games being the game in Anaheim. I do think there’s a strong possibility the Red Wings will come out of this game playing a lot better because as the second half of back toback last time they played. So, don’t read too much into that. I think the Red Wings are better team than they played in that game. Uh, but the Ducks are hot. They’re young. They’re fast. You can’t take them for granted. So, hopefully Detroit can, you know, take care of business. sets a matting game 1:00 on Sunday. For what it’s worth, the Ducks are middle of the pack in like every single statistical category with goals scored, shot attempts, expected goals, and then of course the power play penalty killer also both middle of the pack. Yet, their five on five scoring is eighth in the league. So, I do feel they are due for a little bit of regression at some point. I don’t think they’re going to stay first place in the Pacific division all season long, but they are certainly a lot better than I gave them credit for when we talked about them last week. So, they’re hot right now and they’re they’re far better than I thought they were. Yes, agreed. Agreed. Hopefully, Patrick Kane comes back in one of these two games. Very much agreed. Scotty, do you have any final thoughts, my friend? Uh, we ball. We do ball. We’ll be back with a new episode on Monday to recap both games against the Anaheim Ducks and New York Rangers. So stay tuned for that. Same time, same place. It’s your team every day. Almost said every game. What’s going on with me? It’s rough. All right. Bye.

The current iteration of the Detroit Red Wings bottom 6 has scored just 2 goals. Can Detroit fix it? Some of it should fix itself as Patrick Kane returns, forcing Mason Appleton back down the lineup. But will that be enough? Could Nate Danielson be an option? #LGRW

  1. Rasmussen can freeze the puck behind the net with his skates, and that’s about it..
and he’s the best bottom 6 player on the squad. 😂

  2. Perhaps try moving Finne to 2nd line ctr. and move Kasper , back to the 1st line, left wing. Finne also nat ctr. Or even Danielson 2nd ctr & Finne 3rd. Lsstly, Danielson 1st- left wing….Many options !

  3. Detroit Red Wings prospects/players 25 years or younger depth chart line-up:

    Finnie Kasper Raymond

  4. Most negative retarded podcast about the wings ever. If they won the cup scotty would come and tell you a bunch of analytics that dont apply to hockey because the puck isnt round of why why they ll never win again.

  5. Podcaster Fisher says the bottom 6, or is it the 3rd line, is playing really good, but aren't scoring. Well, you could have the same argument that Seider is playing defense majorly as well, but he doesn't score much either. These podcasters, especially Fisher, is walking a thin line with me, in that he'll make excuses that Seider doesn't have to score bc they continue to claim he's this great defender of the Wings on the ice, but I countered the other day not does a team only need to defend well enough on the ice, but it also needs to score to win a game. You can't make excuses for Seider just bc you think he's this great defender, but then rip the bottom 6 another orifice bc although they're playing very good according to this podcast, they're not scoring like they should, correct? Well, my response to the is, well, neither is Seider scoring when he should…….

  6. Ya by trading Rasmussen. Rasmussen is pathetic. Even Probie and McCarty had better scoring touch and they stood up for themselves and teammates. Rasmussen whiffs at one timers every time he don’t check he bumps guys, he is slow and most of all he don’t fight when needed so he isn’t good for NOTHING. Rasmussen is not your best penalty kill the team SUCK last year in penalty kill. A speedy skater would be a lot better penalty killer than that big worthless dinosaur Rasmussen.

  7. Honestly I would put Copp and Appleton together on the 4th line (both have played a lot together from the Winnipeg days) and if Rasmussen needs to be in the lineup for PK put him as Copp's wing since playing with him have brought out the best in him before…

The 3rd line is pretty easy imo, you try Söderblom & Berggren together who on paper should work well together since Söderblom is strong around the boards and have finnish ability, where Berggren is weakest around the boards and strength is his playmaking, setting up guys WHO CAN FINNISH (which been his biggest problem only gets to play with stone hands dump and chase checkers for linemates…)

Honestly what does JVR bring at this stage for a still rebuilding team? Do we really need TWO 37yo in the lineup when we just seen how much youth have brought… I do think Berggren is better off getting traded to other organization but you gattu give him opportunity to succeed to get value out of him… And Berggren have brought more value to PP2 then JVR aswell, and even though he isnt the fastest skater he looks like Darren Helm in his prime compared to JVR that looks a lot more like Homer in alumni games…

Anyway i'm rambling but bare with me… The 3C i guess has to be Compher cause i don't see Danielson do that in "the now" and here's why… I don't know how much Griffins games you guys watch or if you mostly watch highlights/stats… From what i've seen Danielson shows flashes here and there but i think he still working to come up to speed after his injury, so i doubt he will be the answer in near (maybe later in the season) future at 3C like you guys talk about…

I've watched every GR game since Danielson returned and MBN got assigned and i gattu say i havnt seen such a strong Griffins team probably since the haydays when Nyqvist & Tatar lead the way back in the 2013 Calder Cup, so i don't think we should only focus on Danielson and the first rounders remained there in him and MBN… Honestly i see a whole bunch of players on this team that have NHL written all over them…

Biggest surprise to me is Michal Postava, really really impressed of his athleticism, positioning and extremely good at anticipation and read plays. I know Cossa have great numbers aswell to start the season but Postava have impressed more on me on pure skill, where Cossa seem to rely more on his 6'7 frame… If Augustine comes as adverticed aswell, we might have a very good "problem" on our hands soon enough in Detroit.

Other guys i've been most impressed with so far is Amadeus Lombardi and William Wallinder, both screams NHL players for me, specially the pace and skating ability they both have that def is well above average for NHL players. Lombardi is such a gifted set up guy aswell, if there is something we are missing in Detroit for both "the now" and specially (when Kane hangs them up, he is 37 so) for the future is high level playmakers… Lombardi (and Max Plante) hopefully can be the answer there…

Another observation is that MBN probably have been very disappointed by the demotion cause he have not been very noticeble at all these past 3 games… Tralmaks (who is not a kid though) could very well step in on Detroit's 4th line today and be an upgrade over Rasmussen. Dominik Shine have been outstanding aswell so far since he got the C in GR. Tuomisto still a bit to slow on his skates for NHL i believe, with that said he looks like Paul Coffey compared to Justin Holl who is having issues to even keep up at AHL level from games i've seen, i'd be shocked if he gets to play another NHL game in any organization in the future…

Gustafsson looks actually to good for AHL and been above point a game so far in GR (i think he got 9 points in 7 games now after tonights 3p game), hopefully we are able to move him OR he can bring some value if injurys happens/ASP hits a wall and we need a PP2 replacement… Well i guess that's what i wanted to lift… The only real disappointment have been Mazur injured again and not looking he will be back anytime soon, which kind of get me start wondering if the stars ever will get aligned for him to make it in the NHL…

Anyways, lots of stuff to be exciting about in the Red Wings organization nowdays! If playoffs happens this year or not, future looks very bright! #LGRW

  8. I feel like arguing for Rasmussen at this point is like the Drew Miller vs Patrick Eaves arguments in years past. Good metrics without results equals not a whole hell of a lot. We don’t have the offensive guns to have purely one dimensional defensive players. Teams like Colorado or Tampa could do that because scoring wasn’t an issue for them. I would go with more offensive minded players and keep Copp and Compher. I am not saying defense isn’t important, but that is why you drafted two way players that are offensively capable. Danielson up. Maybe try Berggren up on line 1 and Finnie in a Danielson, Finnie, Appleton line. Might spark two lines or two players. It is no disrespect to Finnie, but Berggren has looked engaged and was making some good players.

  9. Not a big believer that ras is the key to their pk, if that were the case how did they go from dead last to top 5 with everyone except the goalies and the rookies being on this team. It's the system, and it's working, ras should still be on the line as far as making this lineup every night. As soon as danielson is deemed ready and kane is back, sit ras.

  10. They spend a whole segment previewing the Sunday game against the “ Ducks “ when they play the Blackhawks..😂..the Ducks game is Thursday 🤦‍♂️

  11. Berggren is driving the play on that line. Copp and Compher can't create anything offensively. So the answer is to demote Berggren? Because Copp or Compher needs speed? Berggren isn't any slower than Appleton and definitely transports the puck better.

Man, I don't mean to come off as a dick, but watch the game. It's like you guys rely so much on advanced stats because you have goldfish memories.

  12. The Wings are locked on losing. It’s the same team every day. Yes they got off to a great start but they are looking like a .500 team again. The great start can’t hide the fact that there’s a lot of average players on the roster that can’t score.
