REACTION: Saints Name Rookie Tyler Shough Starting QB! | Right Or Wrong Move For New Orleans??

New Orleans Saints have made a change at quarterback. Tyler Shuck will now be the starting quarterback. Spencer Rattler will go to the backup position. They did it against Tampa Bay. Chuck comes into the game for Rattler. And you know, I didn’t think it was that close to happening like it played out there. It was almost like you were never going to give Spencer Rattler the full opportunity for the full season to be the guy. Like you were just waiting for any moment where you could put Tyler Shock into the game there. And you know, for the people that were like, you drafted him 40, you got to see what you have. Well, here it is. Here is what you’re going to get. You’re going to get Tyler Shuck now as your starting quarterback. And typically, unless it’s just an abomination, he’ll stay your starting quarterback cuz you don’t want Look, just like we talked about with Spencer Rattler, you didn’t want to mess with his confidence with the way that he was playing. You didn’t want to go in, out, in, out. So now Tyler Shuck’s going to uh to be your guy there. And I personally don’t think it should be the move, but there’s a lot of people that wanted to see, again, they wanted to see Tyler Shuck as a starting quarterback. And so now here we are what week number what nine in the NFL and he’s going to be your guy I would assume Matt for the rest of the season too. Yeah I would assume so the way it when we talked to Nick yesterday it he kind of brought up the point and I agree with him. It it is a little bit strange because you you feel like this Kell Moore has kind of been in charge of this whole process like he’s had a good thumb on the pulse of this whole process exactly how he wanted to do it. Spencer Rattler won the starting job. He was the best leader. He was the best player going into the season. Now you’ve won one game. You’re one and seven. Uh so you you see the writing on the wall that at some point Tyler Shuck’s going to play some football. He’s going to get his opportunity to go in there and get some experience, get some game experience, and do what everybody wants him to see, which is see what you have. Um so you knew that was going to happen. the way it happened, which was a little bit little bit strange in my opinion. Like you’re one and seven. Yeah, your offense needs a spark. A lot of turnovers. I get it. Like you can’t the if the offensive turn the offense turns the ball over, it’s going to fall on the quarterback’s shoulders whether it’s a fumble, whether it’s an interception, whether it’s, you know, directly his fault or not. And a lot of them what were his fault. Uh, and that was kind of why, you know, everybody was the the protection of the football the first handful of weeks was like, “Yeah, well, this guy’s this guy’s doing great. He’s doing great. He’s protecting the football. They’re not turning over. They’re not losing the game.” Well, they haven’t. They did turn it over. Um, so that was like the first sign that like any like the blemish on the radar for a Spencer Rattler le offense. Now, of course, the points weren’t like we weren’t scoring as many points as we needed to. there weren’t plays being made. A lot of lot goes into that, but you could always hang your head on they’re protecting the football. When you don’t protect the football, you kind of lose lose that argument. Um, so when you don’t, you make a change and the way they made the change at the time they made the change is so weird because Kell Moore has had such a process in mind and he’s had such a um he’s all, you know, you felt like he was under control and at the right moment they would put Tyler in, give him an opportunity. I did find it strange that they threw him in in the middle of the game because they needed a spark on offense on a one and one and six football team. Yeah. And down and I think I think he got pulled. He got pulled after Shahed fumbled something like that which I you know it’s not directly Spencer Rattler’s fault, right? The offense needed a little spark. Um, but for a guy that seemed to be in control of the situation as Kell Moore has, I did that’s that decision seemed a little out of control in my opinion for a move that everyone kind of saw that was going to come eventually in the season because you’re not winning games, whether it’s Spencer’s fault or not. Um, it seemed a little bit out of character to this point for Kell Moora. Seemed a little bit out of control. I would have thought that when you throw him in there for the first time to get meaningful reps to take ownership and leadership of an offense that you give him a week prep to give him the best opportunity. Yeah. Like he goes out there and does fine. I mean it looked, you know, it looked like how it’s looked with Spencer, right? Some decent throws, some bad offensive line play, some really bad offensive line play, some bad receiver play, some really bad receiver play. Yeah, no real run game. No real run game to speak of. Um, so I don’t anticipate it looking any different. Yeah, I’m sure he’s going to hit some big plays and good plays and people are going to cheer. There’s going to be some frustrating plays. He’s going to hit a lot of checkown Charlie’s. He’s going to the team’s not changing around him. Uh, but I do want to take my hat off to how Spencer Rattler’s handling the situation as well. Um, hey, he’s handled handled it like a like a professional uh to the to the next level as well. I can tell you when I got when I got benched, I didn’t handle it nearly as well as he did. I was I was pissed. I’m sure he is too, but like it’s one of those situations. Yeah. I saw Nick Underh Hill tweet yesterday about it. He caught up with Spencer. Yeah. And kind of asked him like, “Hey, man. Did you why did you decide to take the podium Sunday after the game? You didn’t have to. It wasn’t a requirement. Like you could have, you know, done a couple things at your locker and Yeah. gotten taking a shower pill and got out of there. Yeah. Um shower. Shower pill. Haven’t heard that forever. Uh but he said, “Look, you got to handle it like a pro.” And yeah, this is, you know, you take you take your lumps, you get knocked down, you got to keep fighting. It doesn’t change anything. I’m going to handle this and be the best team that I can be. And not a lot of people will sit there and say that coming off in the heat of the moment like that. Like maybe after a couple days of thinking about it and prepping a speech and prepping like how I’m going to handle this. No, that was that came from the heart. Yeah. And and he’s serious. So like a lot of a lot of kudos to him which is only going to help Tyler Shuck. Like if he knew there was a disgruntled Spencer Rattler in the room. Yeah. Like that doesn’t help anybody. No. Right. Especially the coach, the quarterback that’s playing. So Yeah. And they asked they asked him, you know, about it after the move was made and he said, “I’m going to go about my work the same way.” Pull that up, Taylor. You just had it pulled up. Uh, this is a little bit different quote, but he said, “I’m going to go about my work the same way.” Of that one, if you want it, which one? I think it’s that same quote that you’re talking about. It’s part of the game. I’m going to be a great teammate and respond the right way. I think that is. Look at Alandre. Always on top of it. Uh, let’s play that. Audio came out of the half um didn’t have a great drive. Great drive. Kept getting backed up. Backed up. backed up. Um, you know, just really couldn’t catch a rhythm and, you know, he said, “Hey, we’re going to go with Tyler, get a little spark, see what see what’s going to happen.” And, um, you know, it’s part of the game, you know, you know, I understand. Um, you can’t control everything, but, you know, hey, I’m I’m going to be a great teammate, um, and respond the right way. You know, be a pro about it and, um, help in any way I can. I mean, I just go at it the same way. You know, it’s part of the game. U, I’ve been through adversity before. Um, I’m going to be a good teammate, have good body language, still be a leader. Um, you know, so I just got to show up to work, keep keep a smile on my face, keep working, and uh, you know, you can only control what you can. I’ve said that before. So, I’m going control what I can, and um, keep attacking the same way. All right. Yeah, that’s that’s much better than I That’s much better than I would have done like right after the game. Right after the game. That’s that’s that’s stink. Um, this place sucks. Why do I have the the the ultimate feeling that Spencer Rattley’s gonna go somewhere else and just light it up? Just has that feel to it. But, uh, yeah, look, saying the right things. And for Tyler Shuck, uh, it’s a great opportunity for him. Now has a full week to prepare. Now he’s going against the Rams. That’s that’s a very very difficult. That’s an opportunity. That’s what we call opportunities there, Jake. Yeah. Uh, Kale Moore had this to say about it. We weren’t playing well on offense. It had more to do with our entire offense to your point, Matt, than Spencer. Yes, Spencer had some turnover bugs the last two weeks, but he’s played plenty of good football. I was trying to generate a spark, trying to generate something that can get us going collectively. And I thought Tyler went in there dot dot dot. He battled. So, that tells me that he was going to go Well, I thought Tyler went in there and he battled. He battled. Um, but it it is the offense collectively and I’m not saying Spencer Rattler was perfect by any means. I look I am he did play just tell us point he played a lot of good football. He did just in a situation that is not I’m not going to say anything’s unfair. Uh in a situation that is other guys are put in a little bit easier situation because they don’t have guys behind them um that are right there that are a second round pick kind of everybody kind of wants them to play at the first sign of a blemish. Like if you have a couple of blemishes and you stack them, then that’s I mean that’s kind of riding on the table a little bit, but you look at other situations. Look at I mean I know you got to have like there’s a always an asterisk with that whatever round you were picked in next to it. He’s got a fifth round. Is he is Bryce Young playing better than Spencer RER? But much cleaner situation there. Yeah. Not having somebody breathing over your shoulder. You know what I mean? Right. So anyway, a lot of good too many blemishes. The red rifle is just there just in case. Break glass in case of emergency. He’s not looking over Bryce young children. They are they’ve broken glass. Yeah, they have. He’s playing got uniform and everything. Anyway, there’s no there’s never there’s not an unfair situation. We’re not we’re, you know, playing the world’s tiniest fiddle here for NFL football players, but um yeah, it was a situation where he couldn’t make mistakes. And when you stack a couple mistakes on top of each other and you don’t have a winning record, you know, things happen. But I kind of do get that feeling as well. I think he’s got a lot of good football in front of him. And I hope Tyler Shucks got a lot of good football in front of him. So, we are going to find out. He’s got an opportunity today against a really dangerous dangerous Rams football team.

  1. I think part of the reason is because they want to invigorate the fan base and get them back in the seats of the Superdome. Too many opponent fans in the dome.

  2. I don't like it. Media pushed for 2 weeks that Rattler was efficient but not taking chances. i wonder if all that talk made him take more risks. Easy scapegoat who didn't have much help. Keep developing him.

  3. Why is this still a discussion? Let’s rally behind shough just how we were told to rally behind rattler. If we said let’s see what we got with rattler after he had an abysmal rookie season where he couldn’t even separate himself from Jake haener then let’s DEFINITELY see what we have in Shough who has shown that he can be a good serviceable quarterback going forward. I don’t need a Patrick mahomes,Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson, only one of them have a Super Bowl! Give me a guy who can run the offense and we can build around and just have success, not a guy that have to have the perfect team or ideal circumstances to be successful. The “Rattlers” is nothing more than a group of excuse makers, conspiratorial thinkers and blame gods. 😂 I’m riding with the SAINTS and I want what’s best for the SAINTS, if shough don’t turn out then we go elsewhere and let him at least be the backup but move on from rattler period.

  4. Shedeur stans were asking “what do you want him to say” when he pulled that stupid mime interview. This. Exactly what Rattler said. That’s what Shedeur should be saying if he wants to start Cleveland or somewhere else

  5. Rattler to the Vikings so he can be the starter there. Saints love giving up top tier talent. Guaranteed he’s getting traded, and will succeed wherever he goes.

  6. Ratt got pulled after a 3rd down play where he threw to his first read who was double covered and launched it over his head out of bounds. I was in the dome. Booing started at that point.

  7. All of these media people sayiing they are suprised about the timing of the change, get out of here with that BS. Rattler is lucky he wasn't pulled after the pick 6 coming off the game he had vs the bears. Rattler is not a franchise qb, yes it would be a nice feel good story, 5th round pick becomes franchise qb, but its not happening here. Not saying Shough is either but we will have to wait and find out. But at this point I think we seen all we needed to see from Rattler in over a year and a half.

  8. I like rattler but he wasn’t taking chances, bro throwing check down on 3rd&8. I think it’s more about no taking chances than his turnovers

  9. I seen last week he threw it deep a few times but the most part he wanted the underneath also so I'ma be pissed if he comes out wanting the underneath in this game cause the rams gonna be all over it and y'all keep telling me that shough gonna throw it "downfeild" more

  10. I think Rattler was setup to fail. Shough is not better. I am going to be highly suspicious if the offensive line suddenly start blocking for the passing game and running game and the receivers suddenly start catching balls. I am sure other teams looking for a QB next year will trade for Rattler , and with a good OC and QB coach and half decent line, some team is going to be grinning from ear to ear how the saints were fleeced and Rattler needed some good coaching. This is what happen with Winston when Payton began coaching him and Payton said as much. Winston played well until the cheap shot he took against Tampa Bay. Then Winston was screwed over by Dennis Allen when Winston was hurt and should not have been playing.

  11. Look let’s Be real saints fans you can put Patrick Mahomes on this team and the record would still be the same. Go watch last year Super Bowl against the eagles look at what a poor offensive line does to an offense. A great Coach like Andy Reid addressed that and knows games are won in the trenches. No quarterback is going to fix this you have WR that don’t fight for the ball and have butterfingers no yards after catch and no separation in routes. The offense line can’t block for the run or the pass . Penalties and horrendous play calling !!Drew Bree’s had weapons Colston , jimmy graham , Shockey, Thomas, Ingram thunder and lightning backs Reggie bush and so on. I’m glad they’re benching Rattler so you can see it’s the team and the horrendous play calling . Wishing Tyler Shough the best of Luck!! Trade Rattler and let him be great he’s a gamer and has elite talent with the right team and coach who dat !!! This message has been brought to you by butterfingers the official sponsor of the saints !!

  12. I’m not really a “told you so” guy but y’all were sucking off Rattler so hard the past 3-4 weeks to the point this channel was almost unwatchable. I was rooting for him to but my goodness man you guys were even unwilling to call out the bad stuff fully. So yeah we can all tell you are both salty and you can take that “well I played sports at a high level and you didn’t” elitist mentality and shove it.

  13. So what is the solution? Let rattler ride and then have a second year guy you haven’t seen going into next season OR evaluate what Shough can do over the second half of the season then make a decision going into next offseason? Rattler is 1-13 now? He is what he is…

  14. It was/is the right desision, period. And Yes, we have seen a lot of Rattler now it's time to see what we got in Shough and if we have to draft another QB in the first round next year.
Everytime i hear the damn sentence "what will you see, what the coaches didn't see in practice in him" im shaking my head. Like… dude… never played football or any compatative sport in your lifetime?
It's a completely different situation on the field against real opponents with the whole squad in front of cheering fans. You can't compare it with any practice or Pre Season game.
I've seen a lot of guys who where dogsh*t in poractice every time but the best on the field in a Season game.

So let's see what the 2. Guy can give you the second half of the Season.

  15. This is hilarious these guys seem so disappointed. "it's not Rattlers fault" is such a pandering thing to say. Same team with a better O line Carr won games with and we've won a whopping 1 game since Carr last game all Rattler started rookie or not 1 game out of 13 is unacceptable full stop not to mention, he did basically nothing to win that game. Stop with the "not Rattlers fault" nonsense. He's been better in some areas but he's just not good enough to be THE guy and that's FINE he had his turn, tried his best and that's it. I like the guy, but you guys just don't agree with the draft pick and it's been the entire reason you all been wanting Rattler to keep the job, you've been willfully ignoring the bad when it comes to Rattler. If Shough isn't good guess what we draft a QB and so on and so forth. The New Orleans Saints not the New Orleans Rattlers or Shoughs.
