Mariners Tigers ALDS Game 5 Post Game Interviews: Seattle to ALCS!
AJ, did you uh did you spend a a couple minutes with your team in there? And and if so, can you share what what your message was? Yeah, I did. Um let let me start let me start by saying congrats to Seattle. Um you know, Jerry, I go back a long way with Dan. I’ve just gotten to know I mean that was that was an incredible win um for them which means it was an incredible loss for us but um I wish them well in the next round that they earned it um and that was an epic game. Um as far as my team goes you know uh yeah I spent some time with them to thank them. You know we we had an incredible game today that that unfortunately somebody had to lose and that somebody was us. Um, and it hurts, you know. I mean, that group is, um, they gave everything they could. You had guys pitching on short rest. You had players giving everything they had cuz this was game five. And we wanted so badly to take the next step, you know, as a team. Um, and so I wanted to thank them. You know, we have nothing to hang our our head down on. And um there’s going to be plenty of time to to to to talk about, you know, the season, this game, the the uh the peak. Um but I’m I’m extremely proud of that group in there for what we accomplished and and how we fought tonight to to try to extend our season. I I guess just along that same vein, the effort you got out of Trick tonight. Um I mean that that’s about as dominant I mean it’s historically dominant performance for a postseason game. Yeah. No, he was incredible. I mean he kickstarted us in such a good direction. He missed a ton of bats. Um, I mean it again, if you’re not a fan of the Tigers and you haven’t watched TK start after start after start, you’re going to see why he gets the love that he does because he’s incredible, you know, and and um, you know, he’s an emotional leader. He’s obviously someone who brings it on the field. You see it every five or six days and we’ve asked a lot out of him all season, but specifically this postseason, you know, every five days. So, um, you want the ball in his hand and you want him to to to represent your club here on the right side. Jason AJ, when uh, you know, when the Mariners went to Spire there, um, were you pretty resolved in letting Carpenter have that at bat? Yeah, I mean, I I I thought that Spire was going to come in at any point as soon as we pressured Kirby, which we had a hard time with. I mean, he was pumping strikes and getting outs and um, and then there was so much game left. Little I that’s just regular game. like I didn’t know we were going to play like a second game. Um, but I, you know, I felt like that at bat Carpenter had seen him a couple times and it wasn’t going to be just a free pinch hit, you know, depending on the score, the situation, the a lot, a lot could have changed that, but given where it was in the game and and and I wasn’t going to let him run Karp out of the game and um, he put a really good swing on a on a really good pitcher and and and obviously gave us a big boost and just with the sorry with the stress level of Scoo and and just the amount he put behind those pitches. Was it a fairly straightforward decision to go to the easy decision? I talked to him after the fifth. I checked in on him how he was doing physically and emotionally and and um we both knew that he had one left, you know, and he emptied his tank and um and obviously was emotional coming off the mound and that, you know, I think that signals exactly where we were in the game and he gave us everything he could. You know, he’s pitched on regular rest now three or four starts in a row. Oh, he’s he empties his tank from pitch one. Um, you know, it was it was an easy decision. Left side, Cody. AJ, we know games like this are all hands on Zack, but as that gets into extra innings, what’s the challenge of of managing your pitching? Yeah, navigating just where they were, you know, with their order, you know, we didn’t really want to show the the middle of their order, the same pitcher. Um, you know, so I went with Kater, then I went with Jack. um got Tommy there at the end and guys just kept battling. I mean I you know they there were you know opportunities on both sides after the after the ninth inning. you know, it felt like it was a pretty quiet game, you know, from an opportunity standpoint until we got into extras and then there were runners everywhere and there’s double plays and there cost stealing and there’s bunts and there’s, you know, um guys picking up each other on errors or or or misplays and I mean that the back half of that game is like a game of itself, you know, and and you know, we dodged a few bullets and so did they, you know, and and felt like that game, you know, I I didn’t want want it to end, you know, certainly the way that it did, but I um we wanted to just keep giving ourselves a a puncher chance and um they outlasted us here in the middle. Some young kids really came up huge like a rookie pitcher, Kater, guy after guy. Um what are your thoughts about how the bullpen reacted? you know, well, we grew up as a team. You know, I I I do think, you know, based on last season, being able to get some experience in the postseason, it’s easy to forget how young we are and how much we’re still learning. We we have a lot to do to get better. Um, but we are taking steps that way. Like even in in the in the rough September, we took steps forward. You know, it’s not all about the record when you’re learning. And unfortunately, we we put ourselves in harm’s way a little bit, but we battled back, you know, to get the win in Cleveland, to get the win in Boston, to get a a series win in the in the wild card to take this to um about as far as you can take a series. So, we’re we are growing up. We’ve got we’ve got areas to get better, but I I think these um these experiences are are only going to help a Troy Melton or Kater or um Parker Zack um Ding, you know, catching every inning of the playoffs. There’s u there’s things to build off of this once the sting of the loss and that the abrupt ending of a season, you know, um subsides a little bit. Left side, Evan. Uh AJ, at what point in that game do you realize you have to get Jack up and then what does it say about him to be able to do what he did and get out of some really big situations? Yeah, we talked to Jack um at home before we left with, you know, sort of the way that that it was going to map out over game five and that he needed to tailor his his work to be able to be ready and he was all in. You I told him to go down about halfway through. I’m not even sure when he went down to the pen. Um but it was going to be this extra inning type of of game that was going to um take him into the into the game. So um you know as guys are getting getting up like there’s no room for error at the end. You know Kater gets into trouble. I got Jack up. Got Jack in the game. He got in trouble. I got Herder up. I got Tommy up. I mean we were going to try to piece it together the best we could. But going into the game, um, in a perfect world, if it if it, you know, with Trick, Will, Finnegan, Holton, like those guys were all we’re going to pitch if needed. On the back end of that, you’re just piecing together the best you can to to extend the game because when we were pitching, we were one run from the season ending. So, we were going, you know, batter by batter. Last question here in the front, AJ. As a game like that goes on and on into extra innings, does the pressure switch all to the hitters cuz the everybody looks like they’re swinging to end the game as you would think they would and and the pitchers were just moaning them down on both sides. I I don’t I don’t think it was pressure. I think I think the intensity goes to the moment that you’re playing. Like there’s no looking ahead. You know, you you look at the moment that you’re playing and the intensity grows and every situation’s different. You know, we have second and third. the attention’s on the atbat or we had the bases loaded, the attention’s on the at bat when we you know they have first and second um with nobody out, you know, with the with the weird bunt play. Um it’s just about the moment, you know, so I don’t it wasn’t pressure, it was I mean it was intensity, you know, I mean every pitch mattered every um you know I think both sides were under a lot of duress during that time and so you know I think obviously hitters are seeing a different pitcher a lot. You got um look at all the starters that pitched today. You know, I don’t know. I mean, I’d love for this series to go another sixth and seventh game, but I’m not sure any of us have pitching to get through two more games. You know, certainly not the way these these five games were played. So, um you could feel the intensity because of of how badly both teams wanted it. And you know, again, one team had to lose unfortunately for and that was us. All right, AJ, thank you for coming in. We appreciate it. Uh, we’re trying to figure it out now. from anything about this fight with this internet. No. And a sign that I’m also I’m old and I’m dating somebody way younger than he goes. There’s him. 2001, the year I graduated high school, which is your way into couch open. Daniel. Yeah. See how nice. Sometimes everything Yeah, I guess. Yeah, just one right. Yeah. Yeah, just a little. All right, congratulations, Dan. Thank you. We’ll uh open it up for questions with Dan. We’ll start here with Dan on the right. Dan, we talked so much about 1995 and you were obviously there. Where does this one stack up against that one? I mean, um just a lot of dramatics again. um you know and uh what it just I don’t even know where to begin to you know try to recap you know all the heroic efforts that went into today um just from one from one guy to the next um you know and uh 15 innings I got to say um I don’t know how the fans kept their energy going um it was unbelievably loud even in the 15th inning and um this is a special place T-Mobile Park is a special place and and they showed us that tonight and and uh you know just just an incredible ball game from from top to bottom. Um and uh it this is up there. I mean this is up there no doubt and uh um you know it feels really good. Let’s go go in the middle. Talk a little about uh Leo Revas’s at bat and kind of how that that came up and just his execution in that moment. Yeah. um you know, such a huge knock and and um you know, he’s had some some big knocks since he’s been here and and uh you know, some down the stretch, a couple of big homers for us. Um and uh you know, he got a chance to get right-handed there, which you know, he swings the bat very well from the right side. And I I just thought, you know, he he puts together such a good at bat. He waits for a good pitch and he got a pitch, put a really good swing on it. And um you know, again, when when you’re not in there regularly, that’s a difficult task. Um but he was up to the test tonight. huge hit, tied the thing up and then um you know I think from there you just you can’t say enough about the bullpen and two starters um that we had out there in the bullpen um just taking the ball um and and and just running with it and and not wanting to come out of the game wanting to keep throwing pitches and keep throwing innings and um this is uh you know uh it makes me a little emotional because these guys are these guys are unbelievable just how much uh they fought tonight and and uh you know we talked about it before the game And you know, we said part of what’s made what makes them great is they don’t want to leave the ballpark till they win. And tonight was that. They they didn’t want to leave the ballpark till they won tonight and they made it happen. Going in front or didn’t go to Dan. Sorry, Dan. How much are you pre-planning that with Revas knowing if AJ brings in the lefty and you obviously have Kenzone there as well. Just what what went into the thought process for that? Yeah, I mean, you know, it was a question whether we let Kenzone hit there left on left or or whether we, you know, take a shot with with Leo and and uh um you know, again, going back and forth. Manny, you know, I I thought Manny’s, you know, he’s always got good ideas and and that was a good one. And and uh um you know, Leo came up big right there. And um again, you know, I think as we’ve said before and we’ll say it again and we’ll say it over and over, this is a group effort and uh you know, everybody on that staff is special. Everybody in that clubhouse is special and and uh um you know we work together very well. Go to Ryan. Dan, just the the amount of contributions you got from expected and unexpected guys. I mean, like you said, you had two starters work multiple innings. I mean, you know, to win a game like this with the back and forth when no team led by more than one run. I mean, you have to have everybody do something, don’t you, to help win. Yeah. Um, you know, it it does it takes it takes everybody in a game like this. And, uh, you know, we had a lot of opportunities in the extra innings and just weren’t able to get over the hump, but um, you know, huge contributions, whether it was a hit by pitch, a walk, you know, getting on base, doing something special to, uh, to put the pressure on there and and, uh, you know, Polo with just a huge at bat there, um, to get, you know, the the game winner. Um just uh you know again you can’t you you can’t uh say enough about the the effort these guys put in the fight. You know we talk about the fight and we’ve talked about the fight all year long. Uh to go 15 innings tonight, 15 rounds so to speak and um you know to come out on top that that sure feels good. Go one more buster. Dan, what did you see in Scooble tonight and how difficult a decision was it for you with KBY who pitched so well? Yeah. Um you know Scooble was as as advertised. Um, you know, he he did what he does. He had a really good fast ball again tonight and and uh mixing his change up well. Uh had us off stride and and um you know uh we had to fight for everything. Uh you know, getting that one run I thought that great at bat by Garve um you know after Naylor makes an opportunity available to us and and getting the sack fly um was huge to get on top. Um and then uh you know George on our side um you know that was uh that was pretty epic performance tonight. um you know, pitching with a lot of emotion. Again, um the fans just this this ballpark was just loud from from the first pitch and and all the way through the the 15th inning and um kept us going tonight and I think our guys fed off that very well and George was one of them. I think I thought he just had um outstanding stuff and yeah, it’s it’s a tough decision. Um you know, but uh when you have a bullpen like we do and and it was ready, uh we were going to be aggressive again tonight and and uh we were able to be aggressive and uh you know, it worked out. Congratulations, Dan. Thanks for coming in. All right, we’ll get started with Jorge Palanco. We’ll start Dan. Jorge, just walk us through that at bat. You know, it looks like he’s struggling to find the strike zone. You fall, you work into a full count. just what are you looking for in that moment in that battle over there? I I uh I was just trying to get a good pitch to hit. Uh I know he got a pretty good change. He throws a lot of change. He got a fast ball in there. Uh but yeah, just like I say, I was trying to get a good pitch to hit, trying to drive the ball to the middle. Go to Ryan in front. Cory, we’ve discussed it before, but you know, the knee surgery, the decision to come back to the Mariners, all the struggles from last year. I mean, you look at where you’re sitting right now. How gratif how gratified are you and how thankful you are that you made the choice to go to Seattle and maybe not one of the other teams? I’m very thankful. Uh, glory to God, you know, uh, uh, he knows, uh, uh, I wanted to be here. Uh, this is a special group. Like I say before, uh there is a lot of really good guys here and and really good people. Uh I just wanted to be back here, you know. Uh uh I got a tough time and and this thing always keep uh in touch with me and I’m I’m glad I’m back here. We got buster in the front. Dan was just talking about the crowd and its energy. From your perspective, what did you feel? What did you hear? I didn’t hear much. This crowd was very loud. Uh I’m happy for the fans to they they keep showing up and keep supporting them and and be very loud and I just want to say thank you for that and hopefully they keep showing up. Go over here to Dan on the right or just what were the emotions like in that game 15 innings and just the emotions and the exhaustion that went into it? A lot of emotions. A lot of emotions. uh since since the start of the game. Uh but you know, we just trying to keep it simple, try try not to think too much. Uh just trying to go out there and and play a good game. I know we play a long game, but this team never give up. I know there is a lot of emotion, but we we always keep it trying to keep it simple and and just trying to go out there and play and and trying to get it the win. Go in the middle. Jorge, uh Leo came up for you in that big spot there. It was his first postseason at bat. um hadn’t played much recently. I mean, what does it say about um him to be able to come through in that sort of situation? Man, he’s he’s he he’s one of those guy that he’s always prepared. He’s always working. He’s always doing his thing. Uh getting early to the field and doing all that kind of stuff. So, I feel pretty good about him, you know. Uh it is his birthday today, too. So, so it’s a special day for him and and I’m glad he he got that and and delivered in in a big moment. Go back in the middle. I’m going to do this in Spanish. Victoria. Fredd, do you want to give it to us in English? Yeah, you know, I feel very gratitude. I mean, this is a special group. We’ve been going through, you know, a lot of um great battling throughout the whole year. So, I’ve been very grateful for, you know, everything that has been happened throughout the year. Anybody else have anything for Jorge? Going on the right. Can you say more? Can you say more? Everybody’s been saying it’s a special group. Can you say more about what makes it special? What makes this group special? Yeah. Uh, that’s easy. Uh, everybody stay together. Everybody support each other. Uh, when we come to the ballpark, you know, we got one mentality and need is to go out there and trying to give it all. And and this group is very special doing that. Uh like I say, we support each other. We we take care of each other and and and it is a really good chemistry. That’s why we are so so so special. All right. All right. Thank you for coming in. Yep. Congratulations. We’re expecting a couple other Mariners here shortly. Who’s it? Okay. George Kirby will be next. Let me see if I can find some towels or something. All right, we’ll open it up with George Kirby. George, thanks for coming in. Wants to lead off. Start with Taran on the left. George, you started the series, you ended the series. Just whether the emotions now go into a place this franchise hasn’t been in over two decades. Yeah, I mean, everybody’s super excited. Um yeah, we’ll be we’ll be prepared for that. But I mean, everybody tonight, they just everyone dug deep and found a way to win. And um it just goes to show how how tough we are and um man, it’s just so cool to see everybody, you know, getting the job done tonight. So go over here to Dan on the right. George, how well equipped were you guys to go through the emotions of this game given that you played the 18 inning game in the playoffs just a couple years ago? Yeah, I mean that 18 in game and then man just countless amount of just, you know, one-run games at the end. Um, man, we’ve been we’ve been in it all. So, if anything, we’re probably the most prepared team for it and um back. Yeah, it was just awesome. Polo came through. Um, yeah, I’m just I’m just so freaking happy right now. Going the back right. Uh, with your experience coming out of the bullpen in the 2022 playoffs, were you talking at all to Logan and Luis, you know, about how to approach maybe coming out of the pen when they’re not used to that? Yeah, I didn’t uh I didn’t give them any advice. um those I think those guys are good enough to you know you know go find something deep inside of them and just go out there and you know compete and uh that’s what they did. Um something they’re not used to and you know they gave us about five or six innings out of the pen there. That was that was huge. So um yeah it’s awesome. Hey, George. Um, given that you did 15 innings and you used a lot of pitchers, including three starters, how does that affect your plans going into the Toronto series a day after tomorrow, has it changed the starting rotation or anything like that? Uh, I have no idea. I mean, it’s a good question for Dan, but uh I know everyone’s going to be ready to go and um you know, whoever gets the ball past them, they’re they’re going to, you know, come out and compete. So, go to Buster in the front. Can you sort of describe how you took in the rest of the game after you left and where you were moving to and and uh where where you were when that last pitch? Yeah. Um I came out in the sixth. Um went in did did some recovery came back out in the seventh and then you know was kind of in and out of the dugout from you know 7 to 15. um just cheering on the guys, do the best I could, keep the vibes up, and um yeah, that that was I was in the dugout the whole time. So, go to Ryan. And George, a couple of your teammates really came through. Leo Rivas, who’s like one of the nicest guys that everybody seems to like, and even Jorge, who’s very quiet, but has been around, but I think a lot of guys respect him because he’s just about business. I mean, what are those guys like in terms of helping you guys throughout the course of this season? Yeah, I mean, for one, Leo, whenever he gets his name called, he he’s ready to go and he’s come up in some big situations already this year. Um, and yeah, Polo Polo’s been killing the ball this year. He’s really seen it well. Um, and you know, it it was bound to happen at some point. Somebody, you know, the more you keep letting us into the game, especially at home, um, you know, we’re going to find a way. So, that’s what Polo did. George, was that as loud as you’ve ever heard T-Mobile? I mean, there were times where it looked like you couldn’t hear the pitchcom and it was, you know, you struck out a couple of guys. It just seemed like the roof was going to come down. Yeah, super loud. Um, yeah, I don’t know. From like the eighth on, I I had a massive headache and I’m really glad that game’s over and we finished the job. So, uh, but yeah, it was really loud and the fans were electric and, um, you know, everybody that went on that mound or, you know, stepped on the field definitely felt that. So over here on the right with Dan George, it seemed like you were going to the slider a lot, especially early in counts. How much of that was an adjustment and how effective was that for you? Yeah. Um, you know, all those guys from top to bottom are probably looking for a heater to start and um, you know, just you know, with starting off with a slider, curve ball, whatever it may be, just I feel like kept them off balance a little bit. I was able to attack the zone a little bit more with my fast ball. Um but uh but yeah, you know, had to change something up a little bit. So, um I’m glad we we kind of mixed in the curveball and slider a lot. Um but you know, kind of kept the same game plan with the heater, you know, mixing the four and the two. A tear in the front. George, Dan and Randy both talked before the game today about how important communication is throughout the game. Just what was the dialogue in the dugout between everybody, especially the longer the game went? Um yeah, everyone’s just having having each other’s back and cheering each other on. Um simple as that. You know, everyone wants the opportunity to get the you know, get up to the plate and you know, finish the job and um and you know, everyone was prepared for it. So yeah, just just keep the vibes up in the dugout and um yeah, that’s what we did. Going the middle back. Yeah. George, how do you guys feel after that? Is that like do you feel zapped after such a long game? Do you feel like that adrenaline rush like after you know such a great win? Like what’s that kind of mix of emotions? Man, it’s a lot. Um I feel like I pitched 3 days ago be honest. Um, but there’s just so much like there’s just so much joy and um I mean you know every one of us have worked our whole lives to get to this moment and try and you know be here at some sometime and um just really being able to you know feel that is pretty awesome. So I think everyone’s really freaking happy. So go right over here on the right. Yeah. kind of adding on to that, you talked about this, the close games. Can you talk about the belief and determination as a collective to get here and what it took to win this game? Yeah, I mean, no one backs down. Um, I think that’s why we’ve been so good at, you know, um, you know, tie ball games late late in the game. Um, you know, just find a way to get the run in. Everyone’s doing willing to do whatever it takes to, you know, you know, sacrifice bunt, whatever it is. Everyone, you know, is willing to get the guy over, whatever it is. Um there’s no ego or selfishness involved with it. I think everyone just wants to um you know, just pass the baton and keep going. George, thanks for coming in. Congratulations. Bring up Leo Rivas. How are you guys again? Go to Dan on the right here. Leo, congrats, man. Thank you. How has your journey to this point prepared you for the moment tonight? Just always being ready when your name is called on. I mean it’s it’s been a journey like you say you know just every day I take as a new day here just like as my debut so I just prepare for any situation and thank God I just did it today. Taran in the front. Hey again Leo. How you doing? Um, just what is it about this team that brings out the best in you, especially after, you know, the nine years you spent in the minors, the various stops you had? What is it about this team that you feel like makes you the player you are today? Um, I feel like they made me feel like home here, though. So, they everybody, everybody has their bags here. So, just if it’s not you, just me, you know, doesn’t matter. We just keep each other’s back though, so I’m just grateful for that. Go to Kate back. That was a long game. Uh the crowd was in it though. Even after the home run, it’s it felt like the crowd was continuing to give energy. Can you just talk about the job that they did tonight? Man, it feels like my experience feel like the ground was shaking every inning. It just feels amazing feeling that, you know, so just they got to just keep bringing that every home game. Yeah. We go to Ryan in the front. Leo, did you when you go up there to pinch hit, did you know that Dan was going to do the switch and pull KZone? Did he give you a heads up or did How did that work? Being honest, I was ready to run for Polo on second. Then Manny uh came to the case. Hey, Papa, come here. Go go go get this guy. I’m like, “All right, I I got him.” you know, thank God I could have made it. So, it’s your first postseason at bat. You thought you were going to have to go run and then you Yeah. So, the situation I was like, “All right, Paulo’s on second. You know, I might run for him and I don’t know if I’m going to pinch it right now, but I was thinking on running more than pinch it.” And then they just tell me that. I’m like, “All right, let’s go.” Did you have time to check the scouting report or anything like that or hear what they had to say or you just went up there and Yeah. Yeah. Joe? So, uh, since the first inning, I just I always check the report of the especially of the lefties. So, I was checking the the report espec uh that guy actually and I’m like, “All right, let’s see what he got.” He got a quarter change up, too. He he hanged that change. Yeah. Just thank God he hang it. Back to Kate again. You spend so much of your career pouring into other people. People have come up, they’ve gone up before you to the big leagues, they call you papa. How rewarding is it to now feel that being poured back into you? All that time you spent paying off. All that all that you gave other people, you are now getting. All glory to God. You know, he knows what I’ve been through. I’m just happy for him with him actually. Sorry. I’m just happy with God that, you know, he being good for me, for my family, too. That he keep me where I’m at right now. I’m just grateful. You know, it’s it’s hard. It’s hard. No, everybody, you know, uh go all the way like that. Most the people just give up. I’m It’s not easy. I try. I was thinking to give up back then also, but I’m just happy with the guy, my family also that keep me up. Going the back middle. inspech. Professional season. Anything else for Leo in the middle? Leo, as far as your birthdays go, where does this rank? Best day ever, though. Best day ever. Yeah. Since I wake up today, I say to myself, it’s going to be a good day. You know, it’s going to be a great day to celebrate my birthday. And it’s been so far a good day, though. Thank you. All right, Leo. Happy birthday, and thanks for coming in. Thank you, guys. Appreciate it. God bless you. And that’ll be it for the interview room.

The guys throwing 6 innings and hit 100-101 throughout. What more can you even ask for?
What an all time classic baseball game. Pitching, clutch hitting, excellent defense, never ending drama. WOW!!
This is what a classy manager is all about mass respect! 💪
no yall did good
As a long time mariners fan and a resident of Seattle, skubal in a once in a lifetime type pitcher. Nothing but love and respect for skubie. I cant belive my Ms dodged another bullet… Finally my mariners are relevant again. What a fuking game. Instant classic
I was drained emotionally as a fan by the 13th inning. That’s how intense this game was. Cold Blooded pitching by both teams.
Our entire family has been Washington natives and Seattle Mariners die hard fans through all the thick and thin. A few years ago I gave up on the Mariners and I made statements on social media that I would not watch one more game I would not attend one more game or watch it on TV until the owner sold the team, enough comments got to the group that they finally cracked open that dusty wallet. They did not overspend not even close but they went out and Jerry depoto gets a lot of crap and that guy went out there and got the right pieces and he grabbed Naylor, And he's been just amazing for the team hopefully we can get him signed to a long-term contract. Watching this is just insane going through this watching us lose and not make the playoffs every year ever since I was a kid. Been watching since 1990. Tonight was special. T-Mobile Park is The shining 🔱 in Seattle.
Why did you pull SKUB?!? You FOOL?!?!?!
Hinch is a classy guy. But, you don’t pull your Cy Young starter when his last pitch is 101 mph and he has 13 strikeouts.
GO MARINERS…TRIDENTS UP💙💙💙💙
As an Ms fan, no wonder this guy is a leader. Great manager
Respect to Skubal & Tigers❤ this was one of the most competitive series ever
The only complaint I have is during the game when Randy Arozarena was hit during the at bat when he was trying to bunt, there was a question of whether there was foul or a hit-by-pitch. The guys in the booth believed it was a foul. I did not see it that way but I understood why there was a question. After the challenge, the ruling was hit by pitch and the men in the booth could not seem to let it go. It seems very unprofessional to continue questioning the ruling by calling it “controversial” when it was simply a challenge of the ruling that was upheld. Boo on those men!
Tigers showed great resilience to make it to the ALDS, despite being 15.5 games back!
I'm a lifelong Mariners fan. Detroit Tigers are a class act.
As a Seattle fan, respect to Detroit. You guys pushed us to game 5 plus another 6 innings. Fought and stayed in there the whole time. Respect, love and thank you for being a great dance partner in a historic series. Rest up for next season. We’ll see yall again.
Congratulations Mariners!! Best game ever!! It's gonna be an EPIC ALCS. We love this team!!
I can't imagine having to sit there answering questions about how you lost the most emotional, heartbreaking game of your life while listening to the whoops and cheers of the winning team. What a pro, A.J. Hinch is nothing but class.
Kerry Carpenter was 4/4 until Luis Castillo entered. Also Tarik Skubal was throwing 🔥 💎💎💎💎💎 im so happy my team Seattle Mariners won 🏆 props to coach Hinch and team 🙏

Great Job SP George Kirby Mariners 🔱 quality starts
respect to detroit. team full of fighters. nothing but respect.
Mentally exhausted lol.
Seattle Mariner Fan here. I know these kinds of losses hurt. A couple years back we lost to Astros in an extra inning pitchers duel and it’s a shame that anyone had to lose this game. The Tigers are a way better team than what their record was if it wasn’t for that heart breaking collapse in September they may have been the number 1 seeded team. I am truly sorry to all the Tigers fans that had their season end like this. I honestly didn’t know how this game would end. Like it just seemed impossible to score a damn run. Tigers be proud of your boys they played their asses off tonight. I gave up after we had Cal and Julio on 1st and 2nd no outs and we still failed to score a run. I was like man we had our chances if we lose it’s just because the Tigers are a better team. I am sure some Tiger fans were thinking the same exact way about their team as well. Well hopefully we can go beat the Jays and the Brew crew can make it to the WS and we can give all the experts and MLB ……

If I wasn't a Mariners fan I would be a Detroit fan you guys give us a great game
Lifelong Tigers fan. Nothing will change that. Hinch didn't go 0 for 23. Who did? Torres, Greene, Torkelson, Keith, Meadows. They left 10 on base, 9 in scoring position. Have to admit, this sucks.
Detroit plays good ball the way the game's supposed to be played. Classy organization. Great team.
Shoot out to the fans with no voices
This morning Go M’S
Some bitter tigers fans out here on the comments section wow
Class act Aj ive grown alot of respect for you.
they had two chances with runners on first and 2nd with no outs, game shouldn't have gone that long. Naylor was an amazing pickup, he's bailed them out so many times.
“He Missed a lot of Bats”
AJ Hitch
That could be the coolest quote ever.
I was driving into work on I5 heading North. The fans were so loud on the radio. Louder than I have ever heard. When I got close to the stadium I decided to see if they really were that loud. Turned down the radio, rolled down my window. I kid u not. I heard the fans while driving on the freeway! Best fans in baseball!
Congrats to Seattle and their fans. Great game, great win. Beat those Bluejays and get to your first World Series! I'm a little disappointed Dan Wilson didn't shout out the Tigers for their competitiveness, resilience and taking the Mariners to the limit. I'm sure he meant to but was overwhelmed with emotion. Congratulations again to the Mariners and their fans⚾️
I don't get it…hats and shirts and champagne? They haven't won the World Series. It's nothing until it's everything!
I thought I hated AJ Hinch, turns out I just hate the Astros lol
AJ is a class act. What an incredible series. Go M’s!
Kirby……………….. gamer
That was two teams playing at the highest levels of professional baseball. Each team was looking for an opportunity to nab the win in those extra innings. Can't believe Dan Wilson is back with the Mariners for this win. My oh my.
As a M's fan I feel bad for Detroit
they are so nice and their fanbase is too
