  1. Makes you wonder how bad the Baeur allegations were if the Mets are willing to pick up this guy

  2. Metsies management doing Metsies things, as Clyde would say “fumbling and bumbling”.

  3. Not even lovable Jay Horowitz can salvage this dude’s appearance in our eyes. Actually, I hope Jay isn’t forced to even contemplate making him look good

  4. Pretty bad but then again, our president is a convicted felon who has raped multiple women.

  5. Guys sucks so it doesn’t matter anyway, but if he’s been a standup guy since doing something stupid right out of high school, okay. At 18, you’re still very much the person you were taught to be by your parents.

    Forgive, don’t forget

  6. Echoing others, I really don’t like this. There’s plenty of cheap depth guys out there who are in the same tier as Bae and aren’t domestic abusers. The risk:reward on this makes no sense to me when you weigh the brand value of the Mets vs backfilling our optionable middle infield 40th man in Nick Madrigal.

  7. Well either you believe people can be punished and given the opportunity to rejoin society or you don’t. Just remember which side you’re on and be consistent.

And if you feel people are irredeemable, make sure you think about how it applies to your views on the people in your own life, police who deal with them, and your overall politiccs

  8. Fuuuck not this shit again. I stopped watching the Mets when they brought Reyes back (yeah I know, here come the downvotes). I really, really don’t want to do that again, but I guess I gotta think about it. What the Mets and any other MLB team who signs him is saying is that there are minimal consequences for beating and terrorizing women. They’re saying they don’t really care about domestic violence. I think a conviction for domestic violence should be an MLB career ender.

  9. DV is gross, it is wrong and I agree the Mets picking up a fringe AAA player over this seems like something you could just not do?

With that being said, and I am prepared for downvotes away on this because reddit is a hive-mind filled with inconsistent and hypocritical values. However, it is always comically funny how the same accounts with massive anti-police , anti-prison, and generally liberal views on criminal justice, somehow want to crucify and bar this player from pursuing a professional career ever again for an adjudicated incident from 7 years ago when the player was 18.

You either believe people can grow and change and pay for their mistakes and then can re-integrate into society, or that they can’t , if they can’t why do you get to be the arbiter of whether they belong in prison for their entire life or what career they can attempt to participate in?

  10. Serious question: Why were there not three separate threads of outrage when they retired Daryl’s number?

(for all the kids out there, google Daryl and Lisa Strawberry)

But Ji-hwan Bae warrants this? Help me understand.

  11. Just because its been everywhere, this is very “Jesse Mack Butler”. Let the kid walk free because you don’t wanna ruin his life for something they did as a kid. But what about the women? That teenage girl! What about her! Women constantly live with the consequences for men’s violence towards us, as they seem to be rewarded and given a second chance. I being a victim myself still suffer from ptsd etc more than 10 years later, meanwhile my abuser gets his ass licked in the military for being an outstanding leader etc. It’s nice to think people change, but people LIKE THAT don’t.
As long as you’re important or have talent , it’s a mistake.
If you’re poor / or minority, you get prison.

  12. Out of curiousity, this is a very old story. What’s the purpose of its relevance today? If he was charged and convicted, and jailed, I’m pretty certain the MLB would not have Ji-hwan Bae in the game.

    I’m against DV.

  13. I love how no one cared until a big market team signed him. Maybe you are the Reddit guy to take down domestic violence but it feels headline hunting.

  14. I got no idea why bae is picked. Everytime he was a given a chance, his OPS has fallen.

  15. What happens In S Korea stays in S Korea??? Lol doesn’t apply here?
We all know in sports there are plenty of DV scumbags. Sadly if they rush for 100+ yards per game or can drain 3s above league avg, or put a ball in a net, or hit HRs…. No one cares. Just a shitty commentary on a shitty society as a whole

  16. I’m not doing a deep dive into this. I am going to assume management already did their security work up of the player before grabbing him. Just going to guess there hasn’t been a history of violence since.

  17. I’m thinking it’s just so that they can field a team on the field during the WBC, and the we’ll never see him again

  18. This happened eight years ago, and it seems like there’s been nothing since. He’s currently 26.

I’m not saying this is excusable or defensible. But being a piece of shit a third of your life ago doesn’t necessarily mean you’re a piece of shit today. Often does, but I’m inclined to believe the FO did their homework and are comfortable with the decision.
