[SNY] “Nolan McLean may have only pitched in 8 games, but he still received a pair of fifth place votes in 2025 NL Rookie of the Year voting. McLean will still qualify as a rookie in 2026 since he did not reach the 50-inning mark in 2025 (48)”

  1. Anyone who knows more than me:

Is it likely that the team very purposely kept him rookie eligible? And that they waited 5-20 extra days in order to avoid him hitting 50 innings?

Note, I 100% believe that he wasn’t ready most of the season, just speculating if the team might have made the playoffs if he had 10 more days to play 2 more games, and win one they otherwise lost.

I also recognize there’s a lot of moving pieces. 10 more days at AAA helps him build confidence and experience at a level below the majors. Keeping him rookie eligible might make fans or players more likely to come to games next season, or might build a lot of morale in 2026 if he’s chasing a RotY.

  2. He makes the ball do funny things. He has top of the rotation stuff, lets hope he stays healthy.
