The Knicks Are BACK: THIS Is Why Mike Brown Was Hired!
And we’re coming to you live for the build for tough studio. Boomer science and Greg Giani. It’s Boomer and Gio on the fans. Simalcast across the country on CBS Sports Network. And where we are in the free odyssey at Good Thursday morning. Knicks with a nice win at home. One of their I guess their most impressive of the season last night against the Timberwolves. The Jets fall out from the trade deadline continues. Aaron Glenn spoke. Quincy Williams gets demoted. Quinnon Williams ended up speaking yesterday down in Dallas. So, that continues to churn. There’s a lot of other NFL stories out there. And this baseball off season is going to kick off sooner than later, we hope. And we got Rick Patino, St. John’s head coach in studio with us in a couple of hours. Excited to see him and talk about a highly ranked St. John’s team with big aspirations. Good morning, Boomer. How are you? Yeah, good morning, G. And I know that Aaron Glenn’s got his hands full, but I I want to start with something positive. And that positive is what happened last night at Madison Square Garden. So, the Knicks haven’t lost at home. And last night was a really good test cuz Anthony Edwards played, of course, Dante Defensenzo was out there and Julius Randall was out there and Rudy Goar was out there, Goar was out there. I mean, like, and the Knicks shot over 53%. And they were they were incredible last night. That’s all you can say about it. And it was exactly what I think the Garden thinks that Mike Brown’s team’s supposed to look like and that is you see how deep they go into the bench and obviously a couple guys got a few more minutes last night because you know of the blowout situation but you know Josh Hart had a great night last night. He was four for five for three point. Uh they didn’t even have that many free throws last night. They just were hitting their shots, getting their rebounds and everybody was involved. And this was the idea, I guess, you know, because when you take a when you think about the initial three-game losing streak when they went on the road, like I was worried about what was it going to take to get them like in a rhythm. And finally, I mean, I know the last few home games against the Wizards and some, you know, a Chicago team that, you know, that they were going to take care of. Last night was a really good test against a very good team. And I have to say, uh, I loved what I saw last night. Yeah. You talk so much about the look at these scores around the league and the the 125s and the 130s and the Knicks aren’t there yet and they were last night 137 and they absolutely went bonkers in the second half. I think that this was the first time that you really saw that Mike Brown offense taking shape and that hopefully is now a jumping up off point and catalyst for them to continue it. OG and Obi last night, man, when he is on doing his thing, uh you know, you talk about the um the the players in hockey, the one 100 foot play, what do you call those? 200 feet players. So, when when he’s at his best, that’s what he is on the court. I mean, he and that’s why he’s my my favorite. Well, Jaylen Brunson is, but my right up there is my favorite player on this team because this guy gives so much effort on both ends of the court and he was all over the place last night. I thought he was awesome. And then also on top of it, I mean, he played 16 minutes, but those 16 minutes were unbelievable and reminded me of the postseason and how much of an impact he had on these games. Mitchell Robinson is just such an asset to this team. And I understand he’s on a minutes restriction and people getting annoyed about that. I’m not getting annoyed about that because his impact on the games and keeping him healthy for important games is so critical. And this guy is injuryprone. So, I just had to mention those two guys last night. And also, by the way, like you know, start of the game, you know, Julius Randall, Dante Devincenzo were doing their thing and you’re like, “Oh, no.” I mean, this sucks, right? Um, but then, you know, the the new Knicks and and the new offense took over and I It was It was It was great, man. It really was encouraging. It was I mean, and that’s uh like we sit here and we’ve been talking about so much negativity for so long that it’s finally nice to see a team do something that you you expecting you’re expecting and you’re hoping them to do. I mean, this is why I guess Mike Brown and the whole bench was changed and Joshua coming off of the bench with Clarkson and and McBride. It’s almost like there’s a another starting group coming off the bench and bringing immediate energy, but I I don’t know. I mean, it’s early like I don’t want to go go crazy, but they’re not they’re not losing at home, which is great. And uh you know, they they always face everybody’s best shot at home. And even, you know, of course, you know, Randall and Definenzo want to win this game last night in a worst way. And uh that wasn’t going to happen, especially when the team is scoring over 80 points in the second half and shooting as well as they did. That that was like about as satisfying a watch that we’ve had in a long time. Yeah. I mean, against a team that went to their own conference finals last year. I mean, this is not some rag tag Western Conference team. And this is a this is a good Western Conference team who got their star back who clearly was not himself. I mean, there there’s no two ways about it that that Anthony Edwards was uh just kind of feeling his way back. I wonder if this wasn’t a game at the Garden, would he have ended up playing? If this was like, you know, they were at the Wizards or something. I don’t know. Um but he did not look himself, but who cares? Doesn’t matter. Uh the Knicks did what they had to do. And you know, with Carl Anthony Towns last night, not not a great game, but I’ll give him I’ll give him credit for one thing. He did he had dumb fouls and and offensive fouls. Um, but what and maybe it was just a perception of the way the game was going, but I felt like he was just he was moving more than he normally does without the ball, if that makes sense. Like I was like isoing him and watching him and like some of that crap that you see him like just standing around. It looked like he was actually getting a little more involved in the offense and moving without the ball, which is a which is a really positive thing with him. But obviously, well, you know what? You know what’s about G in this this new offense? Yeah. Uh, in the league that is basically taking a league by fire. It seems like every team is trying to do exactly the same thing. This is why we’re going to see scoring records, I believe, over the next three to four years as this thing really takes hold. I know it’s been up and down over the last 10 years. But for for some reason, I think Mike Brown was hired and Mike Brown was hired because of a game like last night. And you look at how many players played and how little the starters played compared to, you know, when they were playing last year, you know, probably six or seven minutes less per game. uh especially like last night because everybody had chipped in, everybody had skin in the game and it looks like they uh they they truly appreciate each other at this moment in the season. So assuming that there’s not going to be any catastrophic injuries or anything like that, uh if this is what it’s going to look like, you know, it’ll be fun basketball. It’s not going to be the basketball that you know of the 90s. I can tell you that. I mean, it was interesting. Um who was it? I’m trying to think. I think it was Duce McBride had a had a a coast to coast right down the middle of the defense of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Coach calls timeout and when you watch it, you watch Deuce going and and Julius Randle is standing there and he goes right by Julius Randle. Julius Randle’s like watching the whole thing, you know, like does anybody see nobody plays defense? I mean, guys do play defense, but they don’t play like they used to. Like in the old days, that guy would get hammered before getting to the rim. Yeah. I mean, I I think that like OG Anobi plays defense and I think that, you know, that’s uh that’s a guy and I do think this team they’re focusing, believe it or not, and they are focusing on defense and and not completely forgetting about it. They do that thing where I don’t know what they what they give out in the locker room for the defensive player. It’s like a lockown thing or something, but they do that every week. Sort of like the home run jacket that the Blue Jays do and all the crap that the teams do with home runs, they give like the best defensive player that night some sort of thing. So, I think they are focusing on it. But, yeah, you’re right. I mean, you got to in order to win in the NBA, you got to be putting up those those 130s that crazy numbers, man. Crazy. And you have the uh I I can’t I can’t see if we have the box score there. How many how many of Mitchell Robinson’s rebounds last night were offensive rebounds? Nine. Nine. And out of out of how many? Nine. He had 10 total rebounds. I mean, think about that that that impact. Yeah. But you also even Allen Han was saying it last night. Now, Minnesota is not a great defensive rebounding team. Good. So, so dominate them like you did. And that’s exactly what happened. I mean, that was a great that was a great scouting uh report and point by Allen, I thought. But, uh, and Mitchell, you know, even at the end of uh, was it first quarter, second quarter, whatever it was? Yeah, I think it was second quarter when Jaylen Brunson hoisted up a three right as the clock is winding down and there he is underneath the basket and he gets the ball and puts it up right before the the clock expires. I mean, that’s I mean, everything went right for them last night. I mean, that No, there it is. Yeah, the workman’s the construction thing. So, Deuce McBride got it last night. They have the the Timberland and the and the hat and the and the vest. So, it’s like the blueco collar construction guy. Nice. Um gets the award every every night after the game. Whoever, you know, after a win. Um you know, who’s the best defensive player. So, it wasn’t Is that Tyler Kix got his nipples hanging out? Uh I did not see his nipple, but it probably was. Um and I could It’s all I could see. Yeah. I I Let’s see. Uh yeah. Yeah, that’s that’s his nipple that he looks like he shaved. weird around his nipple or something. Yeah. Yeah, that that is an interesting one there. And that see what I’m saying? Yeah. I mean, it’s more it’s more the chest hair that’s confusing. Yeah. But it be because of the way the chest hair goes and the way he’s trimmed around the nipple, you the nipple stands out. It’s like a target nipple. Yeah, it is a little bit of a target nipple. You know, it’d be hard not to purple nurpple that thing if you were in your 20s and were prone to Mitchell Robinson. Go right over there. Right over there, grab that thing. Twist it. You know exactly. This is what you get for putting your nipple out there like that. Um, but that’s what you know, locker rooms do. That’s what that’s what especially winning locker rooms. Yes. Um, and and yeah, there has been a ton of negativity and this was a good one and you know, but they uh they got to gear up for their for the next game on Sunday though, man. They got to they got to really get prepared. We got the Nets. Yeah, but the Nets won last night. Yeah. Well, I mean, they were eventually going to fall into a win somewhere. Just don’t ever fall asleep against the teams you’re supposed to beat. That’s all I say. And I always say, you know, let’s be you got to be like an 75 to 80% winner at home. You know, you got you got to you got to protect your home court, assuming you’re all healthy and there aren’t other circumstances around it. And right now they they look they look that that game last night was one of the most satisfying games I can remember over the last few years. Like this was a rocking chair game. Rocking chair against it was fun to it was fun to watch. And and again, like while I I may say that it’s not the basketball of the 90s that I was used to with Patrick Ewing and Charles Oakley and, you know, Charles Barkley and all those lunatics, but I will say when when it’s flowing and it’s moving and they have spacing, spacing spacing is very important. And they’re passing the ball. They’re also doing that. Move the ball. Space the floor. Space the floor. Yes. And uh don’t have it stop with with isolation. But it was really good. I mean, just really good. And uh and hopefully it continues now. And maybe this Mike Brown thing is going to work. I don’t know. You know, uh got off to a little bit of a slow start. But even they said at at their outset of the season that, you know, it’s going to take a little time for us to get used to each other. And and it’s like any sport, I I will say if they’re going to play like this, man, I I just I can’t wait to see what this season’s going to look like because that was a very satisfying win. Do you have songs that get stuck in your head so bad that any little thing triggers it? Do you have that happen to you? Not really. See, I do. And it’s a problem. Did I just trigger something? You did. Yeah, you did. I don’t want to trigger you. No, no, no. Not in a bad way. Not in like a You know what I mean? But like it did trigger a song in my head that’s been stuck in my head ever since I heard it in an elevator six months ago and I can’t get it out and then I I thought I had it out and then you just said the lyrics to the song and not knowing and now it’s back dancing in my head. Maybe maybe subliminally I did that. No, I heard heard the song. Maybe I heard the song too. I don’t know. You said you gotta be. You’re like, “You got to be.” And there’s that song by Desiree called You Got to Be that I hadn’t heard in a long time. And then six months ago, I heard it and it’s been dancing around in my head. This was like a song from the ‘9s and I can’t get it out of my head. And then you This is This song I heard in an elevator. And now it’s You got to be smooth. You gotta do together. You gotta be Yeah. Okay. So now I All I know All I know is love will save the day. Yeah. This is what you did to me. So that whole last whatever you were talking about. You didn’t even hear it. No. Like the bench and this and that. I heard something about the bench, but I was like I was like this is what was going on in my brain. I mean, you know what? I think that this should be the Nick’s theme song. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No, it can’t be. It can’t be the next theme song. It’s not It doesn’t have like enough um fire power. Fire power. This is like a dentist office waiting room song, you know? Uh Sleepy Douchy. No, I don’t think you can be Sleepy Douchy when you’re her. I think women can’t be Sleepy Douchy like the man can be Sleepy Douchy. Okay. You know, like a band. Yeah. Group of guys playing in a band. Yeah. Okay. Emo band stuff. Um but yeah. How was Jalapeno Dream? Were they sleepy douche? No. Oh, man. We were straight up rock and roll, dude. All right. We were kicking the crap out of people, man. You were lit. Yeah. Yeah. Well, yeah. You were mid. No, we were not mid. We were Jalapeno Dream. We were We were lit. You were lit. We were playing uh grunge cover songs. Broke out a couple originals, you know, some Nirvana, some Pearl Jam. We were Is that what you were singing to my son-in-law? Uh, you know, at that was an original song that I made up on the spot. You made up a song on the spot? Yeah, I did. I made up a song on the spot. Just used three chords. and it was called um You Screwed Up by Having Twins and Retiring. That was the name of the song. It’s a long title. Yes, it was a working title. Um but that was the gist of the song. And not only twins, now he added an 18-year-old, right? Yeah. I mean, teenagers. It’s just a lot of teenage boys. Um just it’s just a lot. It’s a lot to handle in your retirement. But as uh as Sid said when she was on with us, he’s gone more now than he was when it was a play. I said, “I wonder why.” Cuz you got to work. Well, no, he’s now he’s got to work. Now he’s got real responsibility. And playing is responsibility. Don’t get me wrong, but playing’s fun. That’s the fun part of it. You know, like when you get to Sundays on a football team, regardless of your record, you’re still out there. You’re still on an NFL field. Your family’s still up there, and you’re still playing. Yeah. Yeah. And that that’s supposed to be fun. And I think that’s what, you know, Aaron Glenn has got to get across to his team now because this is going to be this is gonna be a really hard thing for him because now Quincy Williams gets sat down, Quinnon Williams gets traded, S Gardner gets traded, and now you worry about morale of your team. You know, I did a interview with the Cleveland radio station yesterday. Yeah. And the one question they asked me was, you know, what kind of mind frame are the Jets going to be in when we play them this week? And who do you think is going to be the starting quarterback? I said, well, I think it’s Justin Fields. and I I don’t see why it wouldn’t be after his performance against the Bengals. And number two, I said, “That’s a really good question regarding the morale of the team and the mindset of the Jet player.” And then I went into my my old thing. I don’t really care about what’s happening around me. All I could do is worry about myself and play the best I possibly can on Sunday and try to win a game. I would think that most of the guys would be professional enough to think that way and not allow this to linger and impact their individual play when they get ready to play the Browns on Sunday. basketball video 😴😴😴😴😴
The Knicks are back. Until they lose two games in a row. Then they’ll suck. But then they’ll win two games in a row and they’ll be back again.
Let's pump the brakes. We can't win away games
