Ketel Marte Might Get TRADED!? Pirates LYING About Paul Skenes? Dodgers “FREE UP” Tons of Money

In today’s MLB recap, we have big trade updates on Catel Marte, Kodi Sena, and even Paul Skins. We’ll talk about that later. The Royals already made a trade. It looks like Mikey Shremsky is most likely not coming back. Major League Baseball is making a big change to how betting works. You can thank Emanuel Claus for that. Rookies of the year were handed out and some fans are not happy with who won in the National League. And the Dodgers, they just freed up almost $100 million in payroll. So, we’ll talk about that later in today’s recap. But up first, we have to talk about two guys retiring from the game of baseball. David Fletcher, I don’t know if you guys remember, he was a monster from 2019 to 2020. He had a 360 on base and made some of the craziest plays on defense you will ever see. He is officially hanging up the cleats. He did try to come back in the Brave system as a knuckle ball pitcher. It looked like it was actually going pretty well, but then it went south pretty quick. He’s hanging him up as well as Kyle Hendris. Hendrickx was a stud from 2014 to 2020. He had a combined 3.1 over those 6 and 1 half seven seasons. He was top 10 in Sai Young twice, including a top three finish back in 2016, the year that they won the World Series. He turned in a 2.1 and a 1 and a half in the playoffs that same year. Hendrickx was an absolute dog in his prime. We have a breaking update on how Major League Baseball is going to be interacting with sports books around the entire country heading into 2026. So MLB and all the sports books, they work together. They will be putting a cap, a $200 cap and limit on gimmick pitches and prop bets like how fast a pitch is going to get thrown or first pitch ball strike and you can’t parlay anymore. What is a parlay? A parlay is what Emanuel Claus was doing with betters where he was parlaying. That means two or more picks. So some betters would do a ball and slower than 95 mph. So that doubled or sometimes triple the multiplier if they did three or more. There you go. You can no longer do parlays on prop bets like this. And it’s a $200 limit. So they’re really trying to negate the incentive to rig the game of baseball. So it’s a step in the right direction. The rookies of the year were handed out and the American League rookie of the year was a whole lot less contentious than the NL. A lot of Cubs fans are not very happy this morning. No, not at all. I got to tip my cap to the A’s before we talk about why the Cubs are so mad. The A’s turned in the first place rookie of the year and the runnerup Nick, first name Nick, last name Curts, and Jacob Wilson. They were the first and second, guys. You have Nick Curts getting every single vote. And I mean, it was it was a unanimous pick because he had 36 home runs and almost 90 runs batted in in 117 games. If you do the math, that’s 50 home runs and almost 120 runs batted in over a full 162 game schedule. He also had one of the greatest offensive games in baseball history, that four home run game in Houston. Curts, a couple different things happened. So, because he wasn’t on the opening day roster, the A’s will not get an extra draft pick. But Curts now gains a full year of service time, which means he’s now a free agent in 2030, not 2031. He also gets a $750,000 bonus thanks to the PPI incentive program. That is the player promotion incentive program, something like that. Jacob Wilson for finishing in second place. He gets $500,000 and that full year of service time. Drake Baldwin of the Braves, he went triple dipping. He gets a full year of service time, an extra pick for the Braves because he was on the opening day roster and he nets the Braves $4 million in extra draft pool money because he won the NL rookie of the year. He was one of the best blocking catchers in baseball as a rookie. Obviously, he had 19 home runs and a 126 OPS plus in the box. and he hit 320 with runners in scoring positions. So according to voters that was enough to beat Kate Horton who finished in second place. So Jacob Wilson gets $500,000 and a full year. Same with Kate Horton, half a million and a full year of service time. Kade turned in a 2.67. Get the comments out now. But the craziest part about Kate is he got better and better and better. He allowed seven runs total total over his last 12 starts. He had a microscopic 1.03 RA his final 61 in the third inning. So, what do you guys make of the rookies of the year? I feel like the American League that was unanimous, so nothing really to talk about there. Do you agree with Drake Baldwin beating Kate Horton? You guys have to let me know in the comments down below. We are going to talk about the Royals making a trade for a former Rays outfielder and also the Dodgers freeing up $90 million in payroll. But before we do that, we have a few trade rumors to get into. Catel Marte. So, there’s conflicting reports. Let me just say that. Some reports are saying that the Diamondbacks are motivated to trade Catel Marte, but other reports are saying that’s not true. They’re not shopping, like actively shopping Catel Marte, but if someone did call, they would entertain it. So, it kind of sounds like they’re willing to trade him, but they’re not going to go shop him and risk offending him, if that makes sense. Catel Marte is 32 years old, and the thing to remember about Catel Marte is he has an escalating contract. In 2028, he’s going to make $20 million. then he’s going to make $22 million a year in 2029 and 2030 when he’ll be 35 and 36 years old. And if you do the math on a guy who’s been as productive as Catel Marte, 22 million bucks is a bargain. It’s not that bad. But Katel Marte suffered hamstring injuries, groin injuries, foot injuries, and throughout his career, he’s had a lot of tissue injuries, which is not good. I want you guys to let me know which teams would be involved if they do end up being engaged in trade talks. maybe the Boston Red Sox if Alex Bregman doesn’t come back. Not that Catel Marte would play third base, but Catel would pencil in as their everyday second baseman and you could shuffle around guys like Marcela Meyer and Christian Campbell. I really feel like the Guardians would be an awesome trade piece as well. $22 million, it’s not that much money. The Guardians could definitely be in on a conversation like that. I mean, just imagine José Ramirez and Catel Marte in the same lineup with Steven Quan at the number one spot. And by the way, Steven Quan, I’m just going to throw this out there right now because I just remembered the Dodgers are reportedly back in trade talks to try and get Steven Quan. They were so close to getting him back at the deadline last year. So, we’ll see how that goes. But before we move on to Kodi Sena trade rumors, do you think it would be smart to offload Citel Marte’s contract for some pitching? Let me know. I just hinted at it. Kodi Sanga, the trade rumors for him are swirling just like Kitel Marte. Now, Kodai is about to be 33 years old and strikeouts fell off a cliff last year. Maybe the hamstring was the issue to blame for the velocity dropping at the same time. Just like Catel Marte, talent is not the issue with Kodi Sen. It is simply staying on the field and turning in 160 games as an infielder or in Kodi’s case maybe 27 to 32 starts as a starting pitcher. We saw him go crazy as a rookie back in 2023. He had a sub3 year with a whopping 202 strikeouts and 166 innings. Then 2024 happened where there was a lot of arm fatigue. and then 2025 the hamstring hampered him. But with that being said, he still had a 3.02 rate in 22 starts this past 2025 season. Again, the strikeouts dipped. He only had 109 in 113 innings. This is the same guy that had an 11 strikeouts per nine just two years ago. It dropped to below a nine strikeouts per nine. And the walks, they went up as well. Kodi again has all the talent in the world. So a 5-year, $75 million contract for a guy like Steve Cohen is not I mean it’s just a drop in the bucket. It’s nothing. But maybe they just don’t trust his health and that’s why they’re willing to kind of offload him. And the last trade rumor is actually not really even a trade rumor at all. The Pirates have flat out said, quote, “Don’t even bother calling about Paul skins.” But I just don’t know how much I believe in that considering the Pirates always trade their top pitching prospects. I mean, literally Mitch Keller that was one of the more they really gave money to a starting pitcher and are keeping someone for a long time. Paul Skins does not have an extension yet and he’s made comments in the past about how there’s not even been a conversation to have an extension meeting with the Pirates. He’s just kind of been pitching, making Kane’s commercials and that’s about it. So, I don’t believe the whole don’t even bother calling. If the Yankees called tomorrow and offered the Pirates Spencer Jones and George Lombard Jr., they would 100% take that offer. I know it’s not all that they would get for Paul Ske, but the writing is on the wall. They can’t afford Paul Ske and they’re never going to be able to. extension talks haven’t even happened yet. Just trade him while he’s at his peak. It makes sense. I mean, I’m sorry for saying that, Pirates fans. But then again, I don’t know if Pirates fans take offense to that because just like me, a Guardians fan, I know that Lindor is going to get traded and that José Ramirez only stayed because he took a historically team friendly discount. We know that being a fan of a small market club like the Guardians, the Rays, the Pirates, or any team in between, you’re not going to keep your generational talents because you can’t afford them. So, yeah, I’m calling BS on don’t even bother calling. If you get the right deal, talking about the Pirates, you’re going to offload them. Let’s face it. Speaking of deals, I know this is a very, very small deal in the grand scheme of things, but Cameron Meisner of the Rays, he’s no longer a Ray. He’s a Kansas City Royal. He was traded for just straight up cash. Cameron is almost 28 years old. He has platoon written all over him. If they actually throw him out there against a lefty, I mean, that’s one of the dumbest things a team could ever do cuz he was useless against them. Cameron is an elite defender who can sometimes run into a baseball. He’s got an awesome arm as well. kind of a cannon out there if I’m being honest. This is the Mike Ystreky replacement. Yas, he went crazy for the Royals, but he’s an old free agent. They’re not going to keep him around. And finally, because we just talked about not keeping people around, the Dodgers just freed up $90 million in payroll thanks to Clinton Kershaw retiring. Michael Confordto is not coming back. Chris Taylor, I know he was on the Angels, but the Dodgers, they owed him some money. and also Kirby8ates. Those four guys were owed about $90 million total in 2025. They’re off the books now. So that means more money to give to a Tatsuya Imi, who is another Japanese stud who throws 100 miles an hour and has a splitter. I told you guys a few days ago the Dodgers were going to be in on Pete Fairbanks after the Rays gave up on another elite armed talent and cheaped out. And yeah, rumors today literally have the Dodgers and Blue Jays in on Pete Fairbanks. It makes sense that the Jays are in because Jeff Hoffman, he just cannot be the guy going forward. maybe as a setup guy. It when are people going to understand that the Rays, the Guardians, teams like these are the real problem with Major League Baseball? They are literally feeder teams. AAA teams for the rich and elite teams around the game of baseball. Teams that don’t spend money are the problem. And I will say this until I can’t anymore. They’re literally feeding elite talent to other teams and it makes me sick. Thanks for watching and I’ll catch you guys in the next

Trade rumors are heating up: Ketel Marte plagued by hamstring/groin/foot injuries) isn’t being shopped but the D-backs would entertain calls; Kodai Senga (turning 33) saw strikeouts plummet last year due to a hamstring issue and velo drop; Paul Skenes might trade talk be dead—Pirates say “don’t even bother calling,” yet an extension still isn’t done; Kameron Misner (soon 28) was dealt to KC for cash as an elite defender and platoon/Yaz replacement; and the Dodgers cleared $90M in payroll by moving on from Kershaw, Conforto, Taylor, and Yates. Rookie of the Year went unanimously to Kurtz (36 HR, 86 RBI in 117 games, 50-HR pace over 162, including a 4-HR game) with a $750K bonus and free agency now in 2030 (not 2031), while runner-up Wilson earned $500K and a full service year; Baldwin won in the national league and Horton took second with a 2.67 ERA ($500K, full year)—allowing just 7 ER in his final 12 starts (1.03 ERA over 61.1 IP). In a quiet retirement, Cubs great Kyle Hendricks hung it up after a dominant 2014-2020 run with a 3.1 ERA, two top-10 Cy Young finishes.

  1. If teams are constantly feeding other teams their top talents, it mean two things are going wrong in MLB, first is that teams aren't paying their star players, and second is that teams have too much money for a fair playing field to exist.

  2. My step-dad works with Yastrzemskis mom. Apparently he wants to go to Boston which isn't a surprise since he's from the area so just saying dont be surprised if he does end up there

  3. Misner better not be KC's Yaz replacement. He's a backup Kyle Isbel with a ton of whiff. RosterResource doesn't even have him cracking the roster. They desperately need bats, not OF gloves. If that's really their plan, then they deserve to be in your "real problem" teams list.

  4. The pirates obviously aren't going to trade Skenes until the last year before free agency. They get almost 50% more ticket sales on days where he is pitching, and that's only going to go up after he wins this Cy Young and probably more in the future.

  5. No salary cap. More revenue sharing . Baseball is American and America runs on capitalism. A salary cap is anti America socialist bs. More revenue sharing.s for the pirates 50 million a year for putting up with the dodgers — spending is good for everyone!

  6. WTF, Spencer Jones and George Lombard wouldn't even start a discussion for Skenes. If Bob Nutting really expects a salary cap to be instituted after 2026, the Pirates have 0 incentive to trade Skenes. The only way they trade Skenes is if he flat out says he will never sign an extension in Pittsburgh.

That was an absolute horrible take, all the way around.

  7. The Astros put Kyle Tucker up for trade when they knew they would not be able to afford him and got a pretty good return for him. Of course, Nutting gives fuckall about making his team better.

I'm surprised Nutting hasn't sold Skenes outright and bought another condo for himself. Nutting is in a bit of a panic with his TV/media revenue evaporating. That's why the greedy bastard took down the Roberto Clemente 21 sign down in right field and put up advertising.

How he's allowed to keep control of the Pirates is beyond me. You would think Manford/MLB would have stepped in by now. For both Nutting and Fisher.
