Here is another symptom of the screen / swing pass identity. It doesn’t work when your receiving group and tight ends aren’t doing their job on the outside. I love these guys, but if you aren’t pulling your weight by getting separation, or catching the majority of passes, at least have some heart in the run / screen game.

Weak Perimeter Blocking

  1. Our TEs are the most unserious blockers in the league, on top of making us super predictable by personnel groupings.

  2. Spot on Jake. These coaches will never learn before it’s too late. These don’t work.

  3. also outside of Harvey I dont think anyone on our offense can actually break/miss tackles. I’ve seen mims do it on punt/kick returns but I dont remember the last time he actually did it on an offensive play.

Watching film analysis shows you that Seans scheme is actually not bad at all. It’s just that the team doesn’t have the personnel to execute his scheme. Of course you could blame that on Payton not adjusting his scheme, but objectively speaking im not even sure what exactly our offensive skill group can execute.

Our TE’s cant block and engram is the only one worth anything in terms of catching ability. sutton as amazing as he is, is just a contested catch guy. not someone you can rely on every single down if needed. Troy Franklin, man, he is what he is it seems. pat Bryant is a rookie but he hasn’t been able to shine as of yet but maybe that changes. And Marvin mims is just a pure gadget guy

  4. I would rather have a converted linebacker or DE out there. It worked for Disley and others.

  5. Could easily see this in games. Lazy blocking all around. Which is why it’s frustrating when it all gets boiled down to “open up the play book!” or some other crap like that. This is fundamentals.

  6. It definitely said something when we brought in a 41 year old because our guys are that poor at blocking. I get that Engram is supposed to be there for catches (he has not been impressive and can’t catch anything that doesn’t hit him directly in the chest) but Trautman and Krull are not good at either blocking or catching.

It sucks because a good tight end is a security blanket for a young qb, and it’s definitely our weakest position by far. I said that after week 2.

  7. Why do they keep going to plays that clearly don’t work, that obviously lack the personnel and talent to make them work?

  8. People wonder why fans aren’t happy with coaching and playcalling. We’re 10 games into the season and the effort on these plays is getting worse, but you keep calling them.. I’m under no illusions that anyone here could do a better job, but there’s gotta be someone in the building that can bring some fresh solutions.

  9. Someone tell me that Engram would do worse, because all I see is Trautman stealing reps from Engram.
