NFL LIVE | Seahawks are going to Super Bowl – Ryan Clark reacts to Seattle acquire Rashid Shaheed
News has been flying. Lots of big deals and one that we want to key in on here. The Seahawks sent a fourth and fifth round pick to New Orleans in exchange for wide receiver Rasheed Shahed. Shahed now reunites with his former OC Clint. And Seattle gets another deep threat. I mean Mina, how do we feel about this move for Seattle? I mean they are doubling down on explosives. Sam Darnold already leagues the league in area yards per attempt. explosive play rate. Um, so they went uh even harder in that direction. I like this for a number of reasons. One of which is you’re starting to see defenses really start to tilt coverage towards Jackson Smith and Jigba for obvious reasons. You saw Tory Horton benefit from that uh against the Commanders. I think Shahed will also benefit from that. Um, and then the other thing is this, that the Seats offense has been amazing through the air, but they’re not running the ball well at all. And thus far that hasn’t mattered in large part because they come out, they put big bodies on the field and then they throw over them. I do think however down the stretch as they gear up for their playoff run. They’re going to need to be more balanced and and Shahid, yes, he’s a pass catcher, but I think he’s going to force defenses to uh give them lighter boxes. When they play when they’re in 11 personnel, they still see light boxes at a below average rate. You really can’t do that with JSN and Shahid on the field. So, I think there’ll be a trickle down in effect where it helps the run game as well, Marcus. But, you know, let’s be honest, this is about Bob’s away. Yeah, MK, I was just about to say a guy to lift the coverage and and move people away from the box. You’re absolutely right about what they want to do. And they are explosive out of the back field with with with room and those back. So I and then looking at Sam Darnold this week, the the the game that he had, the the ability to not only connect early and often, but Jackson playing so well, you just add firepower in the NFC where you potentially are going to run into teams that aren’t covering well. When you look at this conference, it’s a lot of big passing games that’s going on right now. So just add more firepower. I did scratch my head a little bit because JSN is playing so well, but the return of which your offensive coordinator and then another element, don’t forget how good Rasheed Shaheen was in special teams as well when he first started out with the Saints. That is really how he got his calling card by being explosive in that area, too. So, it was just interesting to me. I’mma be honest with y’all. It didn’t move me like crazy outside of the fact of thinking about his speed and how much he can lift coverage for how good they’ve been operating in the passing game right now. Yeah, this moves me. This this puts them first of all in the NFC you got to score to get to the Super Bowl. That’s the story of the NFC. Okay, this guy averages 15 yards a catch over his last four years to beat if you’re Seattle. Did you think you could outscore Detroit and outscore the Rams? Outscore Phillip if you have to outscore Tampa Bay? probably not right now with Shahed you can. I also would say this Marcus, this is a lateral transition scheme wise. This is not a guy that’s going to have to take time to figure out what they are. So to your point of the returning, it’s also him being able to plug and play right now. And so I love this. I think this is going to become the best play action pass offense in the NFL. You can take the deep shot with two players now and three if Horton continues to step forward. The intermediate pass game is going to be absolutely off the charts. you’re going to have gashes from 10 to 25 yards down the field that you can absolutely eat up. Those tight ends are going to become even more productive and impactful than they have been. So, I think in the AFC, the playoff race is going to come down to can you get the quarterback on the ground because we all know who they are. And the NFC, you got to you got to firepower. It’s it’s going to be it’s about scoring and outscoring certain teams. I think this allows Seattle to do just that. I’m interested. I mean, the CX Rams game, which is coming up, is going to be an absolute battle, right? And I’m so interested in seeing Shahed’s impact on that game because so far this season, Seattle’s really feasted off a single high coverage and base defense, but when they face too high, they’ve actually not been very good. They’re 22nd in e-er play. You got to run the football better against those looks. The Rams, I think, are going to dare them to run. But I also think Shahed helps in that regard, too. We always think about him taking the top off of defenses, but he can get open quickly. Again, I think with all the attention paid to JSN, he’ll benefit from that. So, I I do like the fact that they improved their drop back passing game because thus far, you know, a lot of the offense has been pretty schemed up. Yeah. Interesting. I wondered if they would try to go for a running back with the way that their run game has struggled a little bit, but this might be even a better move. Who knows? All right, we got more coming your way here. They’re back on our NFL trade deadline. Sports Center special here with Adam Shfter is we’re about five minutes until the NFL trade deadline. Any last minute deals we can expect? What I’ve been told about one and I was just told it fell through. Not going to happen. I know we love for deals to go down, especially before the deadline, but it’s not going to happen. We’ll see if there are any others in the final four minutes and 45 or so seconds. There is still time for sure. And isn’t that so interesting? I mean, you think about all the deals that do get done. What about all the ones that fall through? and maybe it could have affected your team positively or negatively. Let’s sum up the day here. Okay, the headline being the Jets dealing two former defensive allp pros getting back three first and a second round pick. The Colts get S Gardner to try to make a run for a little for a title of course and the Cowboys get Quinnon Williams shoring up a defense that ranks near the bottom of the league. We’ll see if that really does enough. Wide receivers Jacobe Meyers and Rasheed Shahed also on the move. really a lot of action today when you think about looking at this list. I mean, some teams have done so much to make big differences on their rosters. What sticks out to you, Lewis, your biggest takeaway from what’s happened so far today? I love the Rasheed Shahed trade by Seattle. I think they when you have a quarterback who’s playing like that, it emboldens you as a front office guy to go, “Hey, look, what else do we need for him?” Now, I I think I think they still are going to look for offensive line help. Maybe they just try and develop it internally cuz the yards per carry on that football team need to need to ramp up. And Mike Mike, I don’t think that the that the issue with Seattle is actually the running backs. You know, I think I think Kenneth Walker can get the job done. I just think that their offensive line needs to capture the line of scrimmage better as far as really coming off the football. But the way Sam is playing right now, you tell me how to stop that offense. And with the defense that they already have in place, I mean, come on now. I mean, they have got Leonard Williams up front who’s just killing everybody. They’ve got a trio of like hybrid pass rushers. The secondary is just swarming right now. Um, look, Mike McDonald has done a fantastic job. John Snder continues to kind of reinvent and kind of like take his game to a different level each year, retooling this roster, moving on from Pete on to Mike McDonald, from Pete Carol. I think that’s the team right now that maybe when the season started, we were thinking, “Yeah, they’ll be good out there in the West. They’ll they’ll compete. they’re going to always be in it to now you’re going, “Holy cow.” I’m not sure that that many people realized how good they really are until Sunday Night Football last week because maybe they hadn’t watched them one of those West Coast for sure. They made they made Washington look very pedestrian. Yeah, very pedestrian. You look at that division guys. I mean, look at the NFC West. Like, look how good the Rams are playing right now. The 49ers, despite all those injuries, like those are three great teams. And I think where John Schneider deserves maybe the most credit is the quarterback position. They trade Gino Smith, get Sam Darnold for less money, and he’s playing, as you said, lights out. And that was a dominant performance on the road against a good team. I I want to say this, and I put this on social media, and I just want to say this again, and it isn’t because I’m trying to like pump up Jordan Palmer because I really respect Jordan Palmer, though. And he told me years ago, he said, “When Sam gets in this kind of system,” this was before he went to went to San Francisco where he wasn’t going to start anyway. They were still trying to figure out what was going on with Trey and they had Brock already out there. But he said once he gets in that system, watch what happens with him. He is going to take off and people are going to go, “Holy cow, where did this come from?” And lo and behold, as soon as he got a chance in Minnesota, boom, now he’s taken it to another level. Hats off to Jordan. He nailed that. I remember the conversation like it was yesterday. Okay, final words on what the Jets have done today. Trading away Sas Gardner, trading away Quinnon Williams. What do you think about their situation? I I think the draft started today. I really do. Like the season’s only half over and they’re saying we have as much draft capital as we need to get our quarterback of the future. But then you look at the Miami Dolphins, they just traded Jaylen Phillips. They’re going to be in a similar mindset. And then you think about the Saints, right? And all these other teams that possibly could use quarterbacks. I think the race to the number one pick is going to be absolutely fascinating with so many teams that are going to be in the mix for that and so many teams that need a quarterback. Yeah. the evaluation process once we get past the, you know, the postseason in the NFL, the months of February, March, April. Oh boy. Yeah, there is going to be some good time some good times discussing these quarterbacks. Again, Quinn and Williams going to Dallas. Adam, I think has a trade. Adam, do you have something at the deadline? At the deadline, literally deadline. We have Get over here. Get over here. Yeah, we have the San Diego or Los Angeles Chargers trading for offensive lineman Trevor Penning. Oh. And the New Orleans Saints. an interesting move with the Chargers losing Rashan Slater and Joel Al Trevor Penning struggling to fit in there and now he gets a fresh start in LA with the Chargers throw in a running back as well cuz they need one of those as well. That’s literally like seconds where that’s incredible there thanks to Mike T. That was a walk-off trade. There you go. We had one more at the buzzer. We said that it was not the one I thought but it was one. It happened.

It all comes down to the moment of truth, called “playoffs”
THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT. GIVE THE HAWKS CREDIT DAMMIT! #12ALLTHEWAY
Why would they go for a running back? Seahawks have 2 backs that would be starters on most teams 😂
Marcus say it didn't move him 😤 let's see how much he's moved in the coming weeks.. idk why people don't want to give Seattle they're flowers.. WE ARE BALLING 🔥
Remember before the season started that the odd makers had the Hawks finishing in 4th place in the division.
Your forgetting about the fact that the Seahawks have a top five defense.
New s.b.winner. Every day
What does ryan clark know smfh
People watch the full game last year of the rams vikings playoff game. After Darnold played an almost perfect regular season, just watch this entire game. He looked lost, like a deer caught in the headlights. He overthrew, he under threw, he threw pics, he got sacked like crazy. He was lost. Put a good defense up against him in the playoffs and he will fold again. It's possible he will not fold again and make the super bowl, but then he will fold in that game. And I'm a long time seahawks fan and went to a few of their first games in the kingdome in 76. Just watch a replay of that entire game with LA and you will see how bad he can be when it comes to the playoffs. He's much better than Jeno smith though. We will see..
People keep thinking we need a rb lol we got 2 good ones. It’s just that Charbonnet is a thumper who is best in a primary role where he’ll do his worst to you in the second half. Beast was similar
‘Thought they’d trade for a running back’ is she dense?
Every time I hear somebody say a team needs a running back to improve their run game I know they don’t actually watch football
Mina is absolutely spot on. The secondaries will move back therefore allowing the running backs more open lanes.
Seattle is #1 facing 8+ man boxes in the NFL. This helps that a ton! Unleash the K9!
Can’t out score Detroit!? They just lost to the Vikings😂😂 Seahawk slander per usual
ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT THE SCRIPT SAYS ID HATE A HAWKS AND CHIEFS SB
In the NFC West, you know San Fran and L.A. (forget about Arizona) are feeling a bit nervous this day going forward in 2025. Seattle is finally looking like a good football team. No more clueless Carol. No more gippy Geno. No more tremendous disappointments for the foreseeable future as long as Coach Mike and GM John Schneider keep doing what they have been doing going into this year. Finally, thank you God!
We'll see, all these talking heads are on the bandwagon. I've been a Seattle sports fan all my life, as such I've lived with alot disappointment. Sportcasters were just like this when the Seahawks got Jimmie Graham. That was a big nothing burger. We'll see.
Repeal the 19th amendment
After the first segment, which was a very thoughtful dialog, why did that blond woman wondered if the Seahawks might've 'gone for a running back'?
The entire conversion was about how opponents have been stacking the box to stop the run. The running backs aren't the problem. They're good.
If you're not paying attention to what you're talking about, you probably shouldn't be saying anything.
Don't forget when the Hawks won the Super Bowl with a heavily favorite offence by Denver… stay objective
Seattle's run game: Yes; Shaheed's going to pull people off the box, but I've been waiting for a healthy Robbie Ountz to return to help the run game. He played last week, but not much. I think they're bringing back slow. By the time we play the Rams on the 16th I think you're going to see a very much improved run game.
these reports suck.. to say we have no run game lol .. and to say be more balanced at the run/ pass game is laughable .. The run and pass amount is almost spilt Tie!!! Walker and Charb right now combined have over 700 yards with 8TDs … this team is loaded with talent so they are separating the ball around.
Horton and JSN will BOTH be all pros. This nobody done nothing is not necessary at all. Seems to me he overpaid a lot
A balanced passing attack opens up possibilities for the run game.
I agree..thee run game needs 2b consistant
Good trade for Seattle, and they looked good against the Commanders (no JD), the Texans and Jags. 3 teams you're SUPPOSED to look good against. Seems Ryan has forgotten about Philly, Detroit, Tampa, etc. No, they are not going to the Super Bowl.
Please stop saying we’re going to the Super Bowl. Been a 12 since 82, nothing is certain being a Hawks fan.😂😂😂
This is the kind of shit Pete wouldn't do. We had so many awesome offensive weapons that fizzled out or went elsewhere because we were one-sided. Coach Mike sees the holes and fills them immediately to give our guys the best chance to succeed. Meanwhile in Oakland.. Secondly, the guy talking about can we outscore other teams like the Rams and Lions. Our Defense allows 16 points per game. We don't need to outscore them. Now we will outperform them!
Running back??? Why would they need another RB…?
Darnold will get the entire city excided ….and then during a playoff game hell trot out on the field ,then bend over and take a dump ….its what he does….hes really good at it…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
Uh nope
Rams suck! Look at their schedule . They haven’t beat no winning record team.
Nobody want to be part of the jets 😂
😂😂
Shaheed. Cupp, jsn and Horton. Add Kenneth Walker .
LOL THEY GOT AN OVERRATED ASS QB WHO PLAYED LIKE TRASH LAST YEAR IN THE PLAYOFFS LOL. TRADE AN GOT A WR WHO IS AVRERAGE AT BEST AN A DEFENCE THATS A 5 OUT OF 10 AT BEST LOL SEATTLE IS SO OVERRATED ITS NOT FUNNY LLS … FLY EAGLES FLY ….OH BEAT THE RAMS
Seahawks are the BREWERS of NFL ..THEY ARE NOT GOING TO WIN SHIT
