Everything An NFL Content Team Does On Gameday

Have you ever wondered how the LA Chargers post photos or videos during games or how the mini movies are captured? Today, we’re going to show you how the Los Angeles Chargers content team travels for road games. We’ll go through everything from different game day responsibilities, what our travel looks like during the season, and what everybody does throughout the game, and it starts right here at the Bolt. Our state-of-the-art facility has everything an NFL player could need, and it’s also where we work out of every day. It’s home to everybody on our video, social, photo, and design teams. Our department is responsible for covering every single away game, even the international ones. For this video, we’re going to show you our New York and Miami trips. And that starts with packing. What time is it? Time to pack. So, it’s Thursday. Uh we’re headed out to Miami this week. Uh we got to get everything packed so I can get on the truck tomorrow so it’ll get on the plane and it’ll make it there for the game on Sunday. formatting the card because these are my game CF cards. Uh, and I want to make sure that they are in the camera before we leave so that that way I don’t need to change them on game day. Our photo team will pack seven camera bodies and about 12 to 13 lenses. Our video team also has a lot of things we need to pack for a road trip. From video cameras to microphones to other accessories and GoPros, it’s important that we pack everything we need for these trips. We’ll use a packing list to go through and check what items we already have packed. This way, everyone stays in communication with what we have and what we need. Everything gets packed a certain way. Packing is like an art. Everything’s got to fit in the right spot. Seat G micing, Amir Ball follow, Amir A, top micing, seat 300E, bench sound, GoPros, radio booth, Spanish and English. After we pack everything, we open all of our cases back up, double check everything, and then we’ll bring it down to our loading dock. All right, so we just finished packing up, and right now we’re just going to take all of our cases down to the loading dock to stage them for loading into the truck that’s going to take all of our equipment to the plane. We do all of this the day before our flight so that we’re prepped and ready to go. And then it’s travel day. We’ll arrive early at the Bolt, finish up any last minute projects, and then head out with the team. Hurry up. Today is Friday. We’re about to head out, get to the plane, and head to Miami. We do security at the facility to make use of our time and make sure there’s no holdup at the airport. So, right now, we’re leaving the facility and we’re going to go get on the buses. Got to go outside and take pictures of the team arriving. We’ll usually have four people capturing the guys boarding the plane. Two members of our social team, one member of our photo team, and one member of our video team. Let’s go. The content that we turn around quickly are photos and iPhone videos of the guys boarding the plane. Sometimes you’ll even see these on social media before we take off. So, we just wrapped shooting player arrivals onto the plane. Time for us to board. Once we arrive that night, we’ll deboard, get all of our stuff, and head to the team hotel. We just landed in Fort Lauderdale, and now we’re headed to the team hotel. From there, we’ll get off the buses, grab our stuff, get our room keys, and settle down for the night. All righty, y’all. It is game day. Let’s go head downstairs. Sunday morning, we’ll head down to breakfast early, drop our bags off, and make sure we’re fueled up for the day. We’ll head over to the stadium early, about 5 hours before the game starts, and 3 hours before the guys arrive. Because we have so many moving parts on game day, it’s important for us to get there early and make sure we have everything set before the team arrives. Our photo, video, and social teams are working together, but have very different roles on game day. On these trips, nine members of our team will travel. That’s two photo, five video, and two social. We have a couple priorities when we get to the stadium. Our video team will be mainly focused on setting up camera gear, but our photo and social teams will start to capture the locker room and showcase what we’re wearing that day. We’ll try and get in there while the equipment team is still setting up. We are shooting the uniform scene sets that Social put out. Show everyone what uniforms we’re wearing and what the locker room looks like. It’s one way to give a little behind the scenes to our fans of what the locker room looks like and what accessories we’ll be wearing. [Music] Meanwhile, our video team is still in the midst of setting everything up. One of the coolest things we get to do on game day is mic up one of our players. We’ll go into the locker room early, grab the players pads, and get started on the micing. This is a meticulous process to make sure that everything is set up in the right way. Different players wear different types of pads. So, when we do this, it’s usually a different setup every time. There’s a lot of different equipment used when we mic a player up, so we’ll be sure to protect it with lots of tape and protective foam. That way, when there’s hits like these, you can still hear everything. After the photo team gets their shots of the locker room, the social team will head in and capture some videos to pair with those pictures. Then, during team arrival, the video team will capture shots of the guys walking up while the photo and social teams are capturing content to turn around real time. We just shot arrivals, the guys walking in and then we’ll send them in our Slack channel and then our team back in LA will start posting them. After the guys arrive, it’s time to put the jersey back on the pads, set up the rest of our audio equipment, and put our GoPros in the radio booth. Then we’ll head back down to the field to capture pregame content of the players. Again, Photo and Social will be shooting to turn around images real time for our digital and social platforms. We’re always focused on making sure we capture the little moments like when Kandre Lambert Smith signed his first NFL jersey in Miami. Then the guys will go put their pads on and do some pregame huddles in the tunnel. We’ll capture video and photo concert of these moments. Then after a couple hours of setup, arrivals, pregame, and everything in between, it’s time for the game. But wait, you might be wondering, what do we actually do during the game? For our nine people on the road, it’s jam-packed from the second the game starts. The video team has four cameras on the field following miked up players and game action. Bench sound, ball follow, ground mic, and top mic. For photographers, we’ve got one in each end zone in the corners of the field that the ball is going towards. That way, we’re able to capture every second of the game. For the three video cameras on the field, bench sound, ball follow, and ground mic. These cameras have the ability to move behind the benches and sidelines to capture every angle. [Applause] And while the game is going on, we got GoPros rolling in the Spanish and English radio booths to capture the play calls during the game. Right has Videl in the flat. Videl touchdown Chargers. Intercept intercept photo charge of power. And after the game ends, the work doesn’t stop. With about 5 minutes left on the clock, one of our videographers will bail early to go set up for the press conference. This camera streams live on our website and will be later posted on our digital and YouTube platforms for viewing. Great win. Feel really great about our team and uh the way they way they responded. Press conference. Pack it up. Head home. Go Bolts. And just like that, it’s time to pack everything up, head to the airport, and fly back to Los Angeles. On the plane ride home, our photographers will be sorting through their best photos, and we’ll upload a full edited gallery by the following morning so that the guys can access their photos and so we can use them in digital pieces. And after we get back to the Bolt, that’s about it for a full weekend of work. That’s everything it takes for the LA Chargers content team to travel to a road game. And then

  1. You guys all do such a great job at bringing fans things we've never had the opportunity to see before.

However, one thing that just bugs the heck out of me is the insisting upon not using correct capitalization in your posts. I KNOW it's a minor thing, but, I just have to know why – despite many people pointing it out – y'all continue doing it? Like I said, you guys all do such a great job, but, this one thing… ARGH!!! 😂
