Minnesota Vikings Q&A: False Starts? 3rd & 1? Force Feed Jets?
What’s going on, Jerome? Beautiful day for some Q&A. Thank everyone who submitted questions. It’s fired up. Josh Stens, make eight false starts make sense, Andy, please. Well, so McCarthy’s taken full ownership of the situation. Okonnell’s talk about it as well. And really what it was is seems like they altered the cadence uh to sort of slow down the Ravens front, which I don’t know, do you really need to do it? But it it also kind kind of feels like they they didn’t rep it a ton in practice. So that’s why you saw like even veterans like Brandle, O’Neal, Darasaw getting false starts and Jefferson had one. And it’s just yeah just a discompabulation and almost like a overthinking of the situation, right? Because you you’re never doing this on the road, right? On the road you’re simplifying things, maybe even going silent count. So just to do this, just to do it and it just cost you so badly in a spot where ended up being a one-sore game, just all these drives, five yards here, five yards there. It’s no bueno, no man. Next T next Todd Hayesbrook. Uh why don’t we run on third and short? So this has been hashed and rehashed to death, but I mean you got one-on-one at Justin Jefferson on a bang eight skinny post downfield against Marlon Freaking Humphrey, right? And you’re taking that shot every single time because you feel good about going for it on fourth and one if you don’t get it, right? So I I’m taking that chance every single time. It’s like it’s like second and one. It’s a very clear take your shot downfield situation. Uh whereas you can certainly make up for it if you don’t get it. All right, but take a chance when you got a chance. All right, and didn’t work out. And as Okonnell talked about like the one time in a 100 where Jefferson falls down, Humphrey gets easy pick. It’s probably it. And most of the time that’s money. And also that that was a good ball downfield by JJ McCarthy. So sort of is what it is. that that completely changes the complexion of the game. And you know, there’s a lot of criticism of McCarthy. That’s rightful. Uh this one, nah. Nah. Nah. Uh next, uh David Knots, I thought the offensive line was supposed to be great. They are meaty ogre at best. Actually perform pretty good. I I I know Jackson gave up five pressures, but uh as a whole, you know, they only gave up one sack. Uh they’re ding. Well, McCarthy m McCarthy and uh and and George Mason were were ding for the five sacks against the Lions. But overall, like these guys, there’s no position group that’s more important and dependent on chemistry and communication than offensive line. And these guys just getting reps together. Darasaw Jackson, Brindle’s been pretty solid at center, potentially getting Ryan Kelly back this week. Uh Fry and O’Neal, like it’s a jelling process. and it it’ll get better every single week and it it just comes down to a dedication, hey, let’s run the damn football, right? Because when you’re just dropping back and slinging it all over the place, that’s really easy for the defense to pin their ears back and get after things as well. So, it comes down to a Connell like, hey, all the slip service you talk about running the game, run the run the damn football, do it. Uh, next up, number four, uh, Casey Co videography. Uh, BA, how do the Bengals scheme Chase open as well as the Seahawks with JSN? But for Jedi, it seems like every pass caught is so is so hot this year with JJ throwing. Well, a lot of you see Chase downfield and a lot of it is one-on-one coverage where where Joe Flacco just says, “F it.” Right? Because you got T. Higgins on the other side and you know, Chase is great and he does get doubled, but Justin Jefferson gets doubled every single time, right? and with Jack Jackson Smith and Jigba. So JSN working out of the slot quite a bit uh motioning getting favorable matchups and he and Darn are on the same page. All right. But w with with Jefferson it almost seems like they they get away from at times where they they just sort of accept that all right Jefferson’s getting doubled and bracketed sometimes even tripled and we’re just going to go elsewhere. All right. But I mean, there’s lots of spots, too, where uh Oonnell was with Cooper Cup and the Rams when Cooper Cup won the Triple Crown 2021. And there’s so many ways to scheme open a receiver that you know is going to be covered, right? So, getting Jefferson in the slot more, use putting him in motion, putting him in the back field, getting him non-traditional matchups, it’s huge. It’s really key. And I I I I I don’t think that a Randy ratio is needed, but yeah, 18 should be seeing the ball more and in more efficient high percentage spots as well. Uh lastly, our free our professional league is going to regret getting to bed with the gambling side. Once the mega payouts wear off, uh there can’t be any way that much money uh doesn’t get a few takers that can alter the sport. As of now, the league support the activity for non-employees, but we’ve seen what monetary temptations have done in other avenues and professions. So yeah, you look at the NBA betting scandals. Uh, Major League Baseball ju just had a betting scandal this week where a couple grand and and and you’re you’re you’re tipping off pitches. That’s what you’re doing. You’re making millions and you do it for a couple grand, right? And I I feel like there’s a blatant hypocrisy when it comes to, oh, players cannot bet, players cannot wager. Presented by DraftKings, right? And also I don’t like the ESPN. So again, this is not me being like pure tanical and stuff because you obviously I partake in a jelly bean or two from time to time, but also I don’t want it shotgun blasted right right in your face on ESPN. You know, ESPN bet their whole thing with Penn now going to DraftKings. But at a certain point, yes, I feel like sports leagues will there there’s going to be a fatigue of sports betting, right? because I I feel like not obviously narcissistic but I feel like there’s a lot of opinions like me where you know we’re the casual sports better but when everything is sponsored by sports gambling then you you get jaded a little bit it’s like oh yeah the books would greatly benefit if this game went one side or the other and then all of a sudden the officiating all of a sudden you know play players getting their own bets down all of a sudden you question if this is a legitimate outcome. And I I know it’s sort of tongue-in-cheek joke that, oh, this is rigged, it’s rigged, it’s rigged. But the more money that gets involved and the more money that gets involved depending on the outcomes, they got wonder, right? Uh, and and also it’s not an infinite pool where I I feel like there’s only a certain dollar amount that people spend sports betting, you know, entertainment. And eventually, you know, that pool could get dried out, especially uh especially when they they don’t take money from serious bets. Like if you win a couple weeks in a row, your account gets banned, right? Straight up. That that that’s one of the things they don’t tell you. They don’t like it when you win, right? They love it when you lose. But also, you know, especially the way that some some of these lines are just terrible. And you know, the a dime holes more than that. It’s like I also the fact that they’re marketing parlays so hard and payouts on parlays are ridiculously stupid. But I could be a whole another rant for another day. But I feel like there will be an inflection point where there’s a massive oversap saturation and there’s no separation between sports betting and the sport itself. And that’s where there’s going to be a problem. Anyways, that’s it. Q&A for this beautiful day. You guys are the best you have to do. Skull production value.

Thanks Andy
I disagree with taking that shot on 3rd and 1. With a vet QB, yea cool but not with a young one trying to get in rhythm.
They have no strategy or brilliant plays to rejoin J. Jefferson comparing to last year.
CB had leverage and that route was not going to break open. Just another bad throw/decision by the QB.
I watch other teams play this year and it just feels like we are in panic mode all game or flat. Bizarre year
You shouldn’t have to rep cadence…other teams do it. Rodgers is pretty good at it. Manning would tell the offender to get out of the huddle. Hard to take out your tackle or JJ.
I disagree! 😅 As if anyone gaf.
Stack some 1st downs
Get the momentum train a rollin! Then hit em with the deep shot.
We're not in a position to drop bombs before we've secured the field. It's a game of war and we're losing key battles.
Maybe jets needs to remember he is getting paid 40 million a year TO CATCH BALLS!!!!!! He hasn’t looked good much this year, except that one catch. Idgaf if it’s Nathan fucking peterman throwing him the rock we’ve seen what he can do and he isn’t doing it
I disagree. Run it three more times. Make them respect the run. Thus, opening up play action. Such a messed up opportunity to really dominate game flow( likely jelly bean involvement. Ruins it for real football enthusiasts. FEW and far between are the days of coaching for passion and genuine investment in the players and the game. Albeit the intentions lately may be sincere…jelly beans make the world stir. Jelly bean motivated. )
Same notion on KOC play calling awareness as from the beginning of the season. I see the genius of sticking to your Gunz but the Vikings are running out of Wriggle room, yet not out of the dance to this point. Let em cook!
I was just pissed at the penalties. I hope they worked on snaps and catching the ball.
If I want to gamble. I stick a quarter in the gum-ball machine.
If the Ravens had anything to do with the false starts which is illegal Do you or the media expect them to admit it? Lmao
Somebody please check the betting history of the refs of all previous Vikings games. There's literally always one WTF call
