Do we actually think he will be back in 3 weeks or no?

  1. This news is less bad, but it’s still not great. Groin injuries aren’t detrimental like knees, but it showing time and time again Demko can’t stay healthy. I truly wish him the best but I feel like I’m lying to myself if I don’t think this will happen again.

  2. He keeps injuring other parts because he’s compensating for his other injuries.

Not sure when or ever if it’ll get better. Maybe if he spends the year as a backup to get his body sync’d up, but that contract is likely gonna be tough for it’s entirety

  3. I think the worst news would be reaggravation of his platypus injury.

    So this is okay.

But not helping the issue that he’s unavailable.

  4. Honestly, following this team is like repeatedly getting kicked in the nuts. When’s the payoff?

  5. It could always be worse. So it’s not great but it’s not The Worst. I’m sure The Worst is yet to come.

  6. With this medical team the timeline could be anything. Week to week, month to month, season ending, decade to decade

Poor guy simply can’t stay healthy.

As another post mentioned, you have injuries, you start adjusting for that, your body can’t handle the new movements, and on and on and on

  8. Sounds about right.
That’s right around the amount of time it takes me to recover from a strained groin when I play goal – mind you I’m old and don’t have access to all the PT and such on demand (I’m also not playing to the max like NHL guys)

  9. He played like 20 games last year and couldn’t make it 10 games into this year. Best of luck to Mr. Demko, he’s going to need it.

  10. Hear me out…

So this season isn’t going too well. Could be worse. Could be better. High stakes season with Quinn deciding here soon tho. Players are always going to be realistic about the team and current situation. Fans drastically overstate how bad things are right now. Maybe he sees this as a time to sign a McDavid deal because of all the constant injuries?

  11. Just lock him down until after Christmas, not like this season is going places. Better safe than sorry.

  12. “BREAKING: Thatcher Demko is…” That’s pretty much standard news for him in the past couple of years.

  13. Demko will be back in 6 weeks, play a game, get injured with another “unrelated injury”.

I know we have some seriously injury prone players but I do wonder how much is because of a lack of practice facilities etc. Amazing looking at what Utah has compared to us. It has to help keep players in better condition.

  14. I know this will sound absurd to some people but he needs to just retire already and save everyone the trouble.

  15. Given this is Seravalli reporting it and his recent track record with getting things right I assume this means Demko is dead

  16. Genuine question, does anyone have confidence in that timeline?

    I don’t.

This team’s track record with injury updates and medical issues in general has been abysmal.

  17. Another mistake by this management team . No way should they have signed him to an over 8 million contract. He’s a great goalie and teammate when not injured but every year he’s injured.

  18. At this point, I know he was just re-signed, but what might be a realistic deal to get rid of him? With his salary, and injury history, I’m thinking of we can offload him for maybe a very late conditional 1rst rnd or 2nd rnd and maybe a 3rd.

I know it wouldn’t be ideal, but only team potentially in the goalie market is Edmonton. So if that were the case, they’d have include a player of equal salary or we’d have to retain some to even make it possible.

But, something needs to be done, maybe time for Demko to even possibly consider retirement.
