Paul Skenes has a Yankees dream: ‘Trust me,’ teammate says — and Pirates ‘understand it’

  1. Who knows how true this is. But after reading the article it sounds very unlikely any Skenes trade will happen this off season. MAYBE at the deadline if the bottom truly falls out for the Pirates. But I wouldn’t expect them to seriously consider any trades until NEXT offseason when Skenes is hitting arbitration.

Even if the Pirates suck this year, he is great publicity for a bad team and helps to put people in the seats during the regular season and he’s making less than 1 million this season. So I would expect the Pirates to milk his skill and cheap contract for as long as humanly possible this year regardless of how bad their record is.

So before anyone starts dreaming of Skenes in pinstripes in 2026, I don’t think it will even be a remote possibility until 2027 at the absolute earliest

  2. Cashman had Harper begging to be a Yankee and he still fucked it up, so I’m not getting my hopes up

  3. “We have a lot of guys in the rotation that we like, some franchise cornerstone pitchers of our own. This sense of inevitability linking that player to New York, that’s something out there in the public and we try to stay focused on our internal planning and making moves that we think are best for this roster.”
    – Brian Cashman, inevitably

  4. Lets not forget his girlfriend just got an apartment in NYC and she was close to landing Babe Ruth’s old apartment.

  5. I’ll react once anything is ever official. But as of now I’m just going to be in a depressive state

  6. If the Harper thing doesn’t piss you off enough, just imagine October Stanton and Harper together. Those two playing crazy and taking a lot of pressure off Judge? We would have 3 rings by now.

About Skenes though, like someone else said the absolute earliest would be like 2027 and honestly we have no idea what the landscape of baseball looks like after the CBA expires. We may not get him unfortunately

  7. We CAN get him but it won’t be for a few more years unless PIT decides to unload him for a haul.

  8. Spencer Jones, ERC, Lagrange, Jasson, and Lombard. Send them all, I’ll drive them to Pittsburgh myself. Get Skenes and we’ll let them salary dump Bryan Reynolds on us too for their cheap ass owners.

Obviously this isn’t gonna happen but a guy can dream and maybe in a few years we can get him in FA for a billion dollars.

  9. The reason why I think a Skene’s trade will happen within the next few years is that if he shows zero interest in staying in Pittsburgh he’s not gonna be cheap once he hits arbitration. He could very well have a ROTY and 2 cy young’s. He easily imo might shatter Bellinger’s arb debut and get $14 million+ if not more.

  10. 1. The Pirates are not letting him get to free agency and watching him walk for nothing.

    2. All of our top prospects are in their mid twenties, are already here, are terrible, or don’t even exist.

  11. I’m not optimistic, feels like Bryce Harper all over again, and we’d have to give more than just an arm and a leg. But if we somehow found a way to add him we would probably have one of the best rotations in the history of baseball, no?

    Cole-Fried-Skenes-Rodon-Schlittler/Gil is absolutely bananas

  12. Cole and Rodon will be FA the year before Skenes is one and the Yankees have always been comfortable spending big money on pitchers

  13. Paul Skenes has a dream that if he ever did come to pitch for the Yankees, fewer than half his quality starts would end up in the trash because of bullpen failures. But it may have to remain a dream. See also: Tarik Skubal

  14. Someone tell Hal I will buy season tickets and commit to thousands of dollars of merchandise spend if he gets Skenes without fucking up the rest of the roster.

  15. This is one of those calls where Cashman says, “Name your price” and you just accept.

    Dominguez? Gone.
    Schlittler? Gone.
    Jones? Gone.
    Rice? Gone.
    Lombard? Gone.

Hell, throw cash if you have too.

MLB puts so much attention to Skenes and Yankees are losing their stigma to the Dodgers. Answer back, Hal.

  16. Just sell the Pirates on Jones being the next Judge and how many tickets a power hitter sells vs a once every 5 day pitcher.

  17. If I had a nickel for every time I wanted the Yankees to sign a right handed pitcher with a dominating fastball who was the Number one overall draft pick by the pirates who grew up in SoCal and was a fan of the angels to the biggest contract for a pitcher in history then I would have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice

  18. You know the very first thing that will happen when we get him is that he will get injured and need TJ.

  19. I have been referring to him as “future Yankee Paul Skenes” trying to manifest this
