Why don’t we care about the MLB gambling scandal like we do the NBA?

  1. NBA is smaller with more big names. Unless you’re a regular here or a diehard no one really knows who Clase is.

  2. I read the article.

The article should be titled “Why doesn’t ESPN care about the MLB gambling scandal like it does the NBA gambling scandal?”

NBA Twitter and MLB Twitter were both on top of their respective scandals

ESPN is the one that covers one sport more than the other, thus the title needs rewarding given the content of the article.

  3. Clase isn’t the name Chauncey Billups is. Also, Billups’ case involves the Mafia. That alone makes it national news.

  4. It’s more of a sad and less juicy story involving two non-Americans compared to the NBA scandal that transcended just the sport alone. It’s also been drawn out for several months. I think both are big news, but I understand why this question is asked.

  5. Well one involved a fucking head coach, and the other involved relief pitchers, so you tell me.

But I care. Immensely. Gambling is ruining our sport and it was very predictable.

  6. Chauncey billups was rigging poker games with x xray tables. Clase threw a ball into the dirt

  7. The NBA scandal was being investigated by the FBI and involved the mob.

    Nba scandal involved american athletes.

Chauncey billups is a more household name and NBA hall of famer.

  8. The impact an nba player/coach has on a game compared to 1 relief pitch is the biggest difference. It also doesn’t help when something like the Luka trade goes down and the Mavs then get the number 1 pick. Of all the major sports in the US the NBA certainly feels the most rigged whether it is or isn’t.

Editors Note: yes it’s meant to be pitch and not pitcher.

  9. I don’t think it’s like that big of a deal, it’s being dealt with pretty swiftly, like it’s obviously a big deal but it’s like it happened and it’s being dealt with

  10. The season timeline is probably the answer. The NBA just started. MLB had plenty of discussions on these two players back in July prior to TDL.

  11. People care a lot about the mlb scandal. But also, the NBA scandal was about throwing games, the MLB scandal is about throwing individual pitches. It’s obviously seen as an issue, but the crime is seen as much more victim-less.

  12. A pitcher intentionally throwing a ball seems like it has much less impact on a game than players faking injuries and sitting out the rest of games to hit their unders.

  13. I care that it hasn’t resulted in an immediate lifetime ban for those involved. The hypocrisy is unparalleled here.

  14. For the nba, its partly because the league cleared Rozzier, meaning it puts the integrity of the league in question. Add to that NBA fans already feeling like there is corruption that isn’t punished, most think that more is gonna be uncovered.

  15. Because I only have so much capacity to care about things in life, and neither of these scandals is something I care to spend time worrying about.

  16. I guess I’m supposed to be mad at the players but I blame MLB and the gambling groups for creating the whole situation

  17. Possibly because we’ve seen it before in baseball and we kind of know what is going to happen. They’re going to be banned for life. If the commissioner gives them a lighter penalty, I will be shocked.

  18. Because of the NBA betting scandal. We are going to keep seeing this. They push gambling in sports so hard, nobody with the power to stop it gives a fuck, so I find it difficult to pretend that I care. Between this and congressional stock trading, I am out of energy to be outraged. I just dont care anymore.

  19. NBA just let the Lakers fleece the Mavericks… an insane trade that should have never happened.

    Nobody gives a shit.

  20. I will believe they care when the live betting odds and sportsbook segments are removed from broadcasts and stadiums. So, never

  21. ESPN has and always will be NBA and NFL first. They’d rather bore us to death with LeBron vs Stephen A and why the Cowboys suck so bad.

  22. Are “we” not caring or is ESPN not caring? Because from what I’ve seen, there’s been a lot of coverage from reporters about the MLB gambling issue, but next to nothing from ESPN. It’s almost like they don’t care about baseball in general.

  23. Are you kidding me? I haven’t heard about the NBA scandal ever since the MLB report was released with the specific pitches.

  24. Because an NBA player can change the outcome of a game a lot easier than a baseball player. However, the most famous scandals are MLB.

  25. For Ohtani, nobody is saying he gambled. We’re saying he knew a lot more than he let on and the league covered that part up so as to make him fully look clueless about it.

There is a whole canyon of difference between those two things.

  26. Because the fucking mob was involved in the NBA scandal 😂

  27. Clase and Ortiz were throwing one ball bet bet. The NBA scandal includes point shaving and totally throwing games. Totally different ballgame in rigging full game outcomes.
