The 32-year-old Davis now finds himself at the center of league-wide speculation that he might be the next to go. He has two seasons left on his current contract, with a player option for the 2027-28 season worth $62.8 million, but is eligible for a three-year extension worth approximately $218.5 million this summer. Irving, whose contract runs concurrent with Davis’ (including a player option for $42.4 million in 2027-28), finds himself in a similar situation.

Yet Dallas is incentivized to bottom out this season, as their 2026 first-round pick is the last one they have until 2031. The prospect of reinvesting so massively in their older stars, in turn, comes with serious complications that could compel them to trade him. First things first, though, Dumont must decide who is going to make these sorts of front-office decisions in the future.

  1. I mean, I don’t see why you would keep either. Their value is only going to diminish so you might as well sell as high as possible. You need as many picks as you can get to build a team around Flagg that fits his timeline

  2. Well yeah the team sucks, if you want to rebuild you trade for the future now.  Kyrie and AD aren’t getting any younger.

  3. Idk about Kyrie.

They should wait for him to play and see if he looks decent, because this is currently the lowest his trade value will be over the next year, unless he suffers another significant injury within that time period.

  4. Trade No-one right now. Dallas is bad enough already. Try to get their trade value up, there will be enough teams that would consider AD when we get closer to the deadline.

  5. Honestly, unless I’m getting like melo or trae young, I’m keeping Kyrie. You need a good point guard anyway and he’d be a solid vet to have around. Plus he seems to like Dallas

  6. Kyrie will forever get cheers in Dallas. I do think we should try to move and and get picks for him, rebuild around Coops timeline, but he will always be beloved in DFW. Fuck you forever Nico, hell isn’t hot enough for you.

  7. No team is bypassing the physical on a 33 year old Kyrie coming off a torn ACL unless Dallas is literally taking scraps.

It’s so dumb to believe Dallas will do this while their two guys are at rock bottom value and they have no draft picks.

  8. Worthless reporting. League wide speculation means nothing. Anybody can speculate that this is what they’re gonna do.

  9. This guy should actually go to jail for what he has done to that franchise. This has to tread the line of criminal negligence.

  10. Trade Klay and AD. Cooper and Kyrie could have good chemistry be a waste to get rid of him.

  11. It’s truly insane to think that the Mavs were championship contenders into rebuilding with no star player the very next year.

    Generational fumble.

  12. They at least need to keep them long enough to play some games so they can spike up some trade value and get some assets and picks. Doing a fire sale now when their value is low is foolish.

  13. This is hilarious. Mavs basically just started tanking right after their finals run. This makes no sense as a competitive sports franchise.
