HC Jonathan Gannon Press Conference – 11.12.25 | AZ Cardinals
Couple updates here real quick. Um Baron uh came in Monday. Um after the game, he’s in concussion protocol. Um we already talked about Z Jones going to IR. Smi Foko is going to go to IR. Uh Marvin, two nights ago or one night, no uh two nights ago had surgery um appendicitis. So, he’s going to be out. Uh, and M. Wilson, um, with the ribs will be out. Everybody else, you guys will see that report today. Um, varying levels of each guy, what they’re working through. Uh, with saying that, um, I’m excited about get back on the grass today and put a plan together and go play Seattle. I mean, San Francisco. Sorry about that. San Francisco. Kyle Shanahan. um going to be a good test for us. Is Marv one week thing, do you think? We’ll see. Um how’s uh how’s Trey Benson doing? Does he have a chance this week? Take it day by day. Um the other injuries, how’s he doing? Day by day. Like I said, all the rest of them kind of truthfully day by day. Is this normal, coach? This each season you get to this point, guys are just getting banged up and banged up. Yeah, it’s life. When you look at Well, I say why I say that, Craig. It’s life in the NFL. That it’s it’s our job to put a plan together, get the guys ready to go, uh, and go out and compete and win. That’s the job. When you look at San Francisco, what kind of issues do they present now? Yeah, I mean offensively, um, they’re as good as they come, you know. Um, they got premier players. It’s a great system. Kyle obviously is one of the best out there. Um, run game, you don’t know where the ball is going. They hide it. Um, so it’s hard to get the leverages and the angles that you want. Uh, in the pass game, you got to really defend every part of the field. um which makes it challenging because there’s times that you’re not going to have a lot of help on certain guys. So um you know they play the game in space in the passing game and it stresses you out. So we got to be on the details. When you look at McCaffrey, is there a way you can slow him down? Tough because they deploy him a bunch of different ways. You know, obviously they they hand him the ball. Um, and then the passing game, um, we’re going to have, you know, they force you to have different people on him. Um, by the way deploy him and the formations and the personnels and all that. Uh, he’s a really good player, you know what I mean? It’s it’s one thing for, you know, an option route, but an option route, the way he runs, it’s tough. You know, he’s a premier player. There’s no doubt. Um, so we got to do a really good job. He’s getting a lot of touches um in the run and pass game. Um and he can definitely, you know, win the game for him if he needs to. So, we can’t allow that to happen. You talked for years, well, three years now about how injuries are part of the NFL, but also how you plans A, B, C, D. At this point in the season, how many plans do you have? Like obviously there’s issues on the defensive line, receiver, like how like how many contingency lineups, plans, whatnot do you guys go through. Yeah. Um you see who’s available and you put a plan together, you know, that’s all I can really say, Josh, about that. Everybody goes through it. When does that because you you said like you have ABCD heading to the season. When does that change? ABC and D changes weekly. You know, coach, you talk all the time about how players consume information a lot different from other players versus hearing it from the coaches. When you are in a hole like this, how much do you wean on those veteran voices to dig yourselves out of it? Yeah. That they’re they’re not confused about why we’re at where we’re at and they know what they need to do to win uh on Sunday. You look at the 49ers coming off a loss the way they lost too against the Rams and you guys coming off the Seahawks game. Does this one add any issues to a must-win kind of situation or just go out and get a win? Yeah, I mean I know this is a good football team, you know, and they they got, you know, their last game. I’m sure that, you know, they probably want it back, too. Um they played a good football team. So did we. Um, this is the visional game that we need to get and I’m sure they feel the exact same way. With Mark beyond the injury against uh against the Cowboys, he obvious one of the better games of his career. Seahawks have a really good defense, but what were the things that that he could have done to kind of do more? I’m kind of on a San Francisco right now, too. Coach, kind of going back to my question about the the voices, four of your captains are out with injuries. So, I guess that kind of is more so to my point about the veteran voices like in the room. Just how much did those guys need to speak up and need to take that role even if they’re not? That’s a good question. Our captains will do a good job, but you know, I uh the seven captains, obviously, we’re down four right now. um a lot of other guys got votes too and they know that and they need to step up and and lead the team, you know, and it’s about the collective. I do think that um when you got guys in and out of the lineup like that, people need to step up, you know, and you got a lot of guys are in new roles, they’re going to be in new roles this week. Um but also a lot of guys are in the same roles as well. So I don’t want to, you know, overlook that either. Like Trey McBride, same role, you know, Yel Frohold, same role. Paris, same role, you know. Uh Dvin, same role. Ka same role. Um Sweaty same. Buddha JT, you know, JT’s had some different roles, you know. Um so it’s um as much as you say, oh, this guy’s out, this guy’s out, this guy’s out, we got we got players in there, too. So, I I trust them and we’ll we’ll have a good week and get ready to go. Go ahead, Danny. What attributes does Xavier Weaver have to impact the passing game? He’s um he’s got speed. Um he can get open and he’s shown that he can make plays. with with Trey, what do you think of his tribe with what do you think of his route tree and kind of what kind of weapon is it that he can run routes like a receiver can? He can do it all. He’s got really good instincts, too. Uh how to get open, you know, versus zone, how to get open versus man, the different leverages that he gets in man, um how to win those downs. And I always said about Trey, he’s a first, second, third level guy and he’s got really good ball skills and he’s got really good rack. Um he’s tough to tackle. Uh so obviously one of our premier weapons. Go ahead. Jacobe was saying after the game that no matter how Seattle tried to defend McBride, they just couldn’t do it. Like put different corners on it, linebackers, whoever. Is that the kind of ability he has week in and week out? He does. I mean, but that’s, you know, that’s what premier players do. You know, they just produce. Doesn’t matter what’s going on in the game, how they’re trying to defend you. Um, conversely on a defensive side, how they’re trying to block you or who you’re covering, you you make plays, you know, because that’s what the team needs, you know, and and he’s shown the ability to consistently do that. During training camp, you talked a lot about um player development in that kind of bucket with all these injuries. How have you kind of seen that player development pay off this season? Yes. Well, it’s that’s that’s why you talk about it to a really good point. Um, it’s huge. Um because if you’re, you know, I always say like if you’re getting thrust into another role, um it’s really on the coaches and the players to be ready for that role when it comes available. Um and if you’re just staying the same, you know, whether your role changes week one or now, whatever week we’re in 10, right? Um you better be ready, you know, and it’s and like I said, it’s a coach’s job to make sure that they’re ready to go. Um, and then we got to make sure that we’re putting them in good spots, you know, make sure that we accentuate their skill sets and don’t put them in bad spots as much as we can as it relates to the unit. How do you assess what you’ve gotten out of those depth pieces that maybe on August 1 you maybe weren’t expecting to play? I think guys have done a good job when they’ve went in. You know, I really do. Um, you know, we got to make sure, but and then, you know, as you keep playing more and more and more, you need to get better and make less mistakes and get better and improve. Um, that’s why I always say like the best form of learning comes from game reps. Well, a lot of guys are getting game reps right now. So, let’s see you improve. Coach, when you talk about those guys getting game reps and now you’re facing a Kyle Shanahan offense that you you said earlier he moves pieces around to start. How tough is that for younger guys? Yeah, buckle up. Buckle up, man. Yeah. No, there’s no doubt. You know, I mean, it’s it’s not easy. There’s no doubt about that. But, you know, it week is not going to be easy. You know what I mean? But, uh, for defensive perspective, this week presents a lot of challenges that, um, other weeks don’t present.

Niners destroy the cardinals
49ers, Premier Players, Premier Coaching Staff, Premier Owners…bet they have a Game Plan! We sure haven't for 3 Seasons!
Just say “NO TREY BENSON THIS WEEK” he’s not coming back, you know he’s not, we know he’s not, don’t build hope. Marvs out, zays out. At least we hope
Jonah will be benched. Browning’s out. Absolutely crazy. At this point with the quality of playing, mixed with the injuries, I wouldn’t even be mad if they forfeited the season. It’s just ridiculous now
Starting to feel for JG😂😂
I'm just burnt out of the non answers "day to day", "it's life", "we'll see how he feels".
Fire Coach Gannon
Jonathan Gannon and the coaching staff put together plays that the practice all week before the games. When they players can’t execute the plays because they’re not tough enough to protect the quarterback or if they can’t catch the ball – everyone comes for them. How about we put some blame on the players.
Day by day by day…..by day. 🫠
Geez. The starting running backs out. Marv and his backup out. About 8 DBs down for the season. Wow.
You can’t win anything Gannon and refuse to change or fire anyone.
He don’t even know who we playing this week
Same rhetoric every week. How about a formal apology tothe fan base? That would be nice
The fact that we have had so many wild injuries AND that we’re fundamental blunders from being 6-3 is the only thing that may be saving him. At keast, Petz for sure.
With all the expectations we had going into this year, it’s a massive failure but Gannon isn’t gone unless NEXT year starts awful.
