With the draft being a lottery, even finishing last means that 75% of the time you don’t get the top pick

  1. Is Stenberg a must have or is it worth trading down from 2 to 5 to get more first round picks and do the rebuild the right way?

  2. McKenna’s draft stock is sliding since going to the NCAA there are real concerns about his overall complete game. He was outscoring those concerns playing in the WHL but his production has dropped significantly in the NCAA. Verhoeff is a must draft potential franchise Dman that I think we should take if given the opportunity.

Edit with additional narrative and rationale:

Before downvoting me look at the recent articles that are coming out. 9 of his 14 points have come on the man advantage. I never said he was doing awful. I said his draft projections are starting to slide slightly. He has less points than Hagens had through his first 12 games and only 13% of Hagens were powerplay points while 64% of McKennas are powerplay points. James Hagens slid all the way to 7th in last years draft.

Adam Fantilli had 23 points in his first 12 NCAA games

Macklin Celebrini had 22 and was younger than Mckenna

    Jack Eichel had 21

They all won the Hobey Baker. If Mckenna keeps up his current pace he wont even be a Hobey Baker nominee. He hasn’t been bad but he has not played to expectations for a “generational talent” and there are major holes in his game defensively. So yeah I hope we get McKenna but people acting like he is still running away with the 1st overall pick are simply not paying attention.

  3. Need to trade up with the Vegas pick(assuming they make playoffs) to pick Bjork, guy is an underrated stud. Shattered u18 records by a 15 year old and u20 records as a 16 year old. Holding his own in shl and just destroyed the 5 nations tournament.

  4. Belchetz and Roobroek are skilled power forwards we need to play with guys like zary and Coronato

  5. At this point I feel like a >95% chance we get a top 3 guy McKenna/Verhoeff/Stenberg or one of these big body forwards Belchetz or Roobroeck.  Until we get some risers later in the season maybe.

  6. As a Sweden that has Djurgården as a favorite team (in sweden), I would say Viggo should be a good addition to the Flames. And with Oliver Kylington in the same team, Flames should use him to convince Viggo to join the Flames.

I watch this kid every week and he is real good and should be able to handle the NHL with no problems.

  7. Trading this franchise’s highest ever draft pick would be classic Flames, but my hope would be that we would take BPA. Having multiple potential franchise dmen is a very good problem to have.

  8. Imagine the Flames got their first top 3 selection EVER and TRADED IT DOWN since it wasn’t #1. I think I’d have to nope out on fandom.

  9. All of Stenberg, Verhoeff, Lawrence and Belchetz intrigue me if we don’t end up getting McKenna at 1st. I know we have Zayne, but Verhoeff is such a stud and imo likely going to be a better all-around defender than Zayne. So if he’s BPA I’d snag him.

  10. You don’t trade down…Verhoeff could unseed McKenna, Guys on chick it’s called him the most complete D prospect they have seen

  11. I’ve had fun watching Roobroek here in Niagara and I’m still kinda bummed we didn’t draft Kevin He last year so that would be neat in a worst case scenario. I don’t know about these other guys other than Mckenna but I think you just take the best player you can regardless of position. Good chance they’re shit again next season…

  12. This isn’t NHL 26. The real draft is much harder to predict, and if you trade back in hopes of landing the guy you like, there’s no guarantee he’s still there, even just a couple picks down, just because the projection has him there. If you’re picking in the top 5, maybe even top 10, you just take the guy you want. Plain and simple.

I would also argue that if the Flames pick top 3, they are taking any of McKenna, Stenberg and Verhoeff. Doesn’t matter how “deep” their D prospect pool is. They can trade a D prospect for a FWD prospect down the line if need be.

Look at the Montreal trade for Bolduc for a good example.

  13. Flames will win the lottery and pick. Casey mutryn and then he wont wanna sign with a canadian team
