Hughes, Lankinen, DeBrusk & Adam Foote Post-Game Media | Canucks vs. Jets (Nov 11, 2025)
I mean, obviously wish we got the win for sure. You left briefly and then came back. What exactly happened on that play where you got tangled up? Yeah, I don’t know. Weird play. Um, just one of those weird ones. So, yeah, hope I think I’m all good. Difficult to see that leave middle of the game. Yeah, for sure. Um, not sure what happened yet, but yeah, I don’t I don’t know what happened to be honest, but yeah, obviously not a uh something we want to see. Seems like a bit of a silly question, but what does he mean to this team? Yeah, I mean, obviously it means I mean, we’ve talked about this before. Yeah. Did you know that you guys were on the power play when you ran back up and also you made a dramatic run and made a decision? Uh yeah, I saw that we were they said on the radio so I was they were taping me up then I was uh heard that it was so just good timing. What does it mean when guy can score the rush in the power play? So yeah, I mean he’s uh can score for sure. So was happy to see him score there and it’s play you know we’ve been looking at for a little bit. Yeah, I’m not quite sure what what happened there. I haven’t had a chance to talk to to Thatcher obviously hope that he’s he’s doing okay. How difficult is that for a bullet to step in mid game like that? No, I mean that’s what we do. That’s that’s part of the job. You got to be ready at all times and uh it’s part of my preparation to be be ready every single night whenever I get called upon and and uh play my best game. I know you talked a lot about how you had a really good summer of training. You feel stronger and more fit than ever before, but this has been a lot of a big workload for you over the last week. I think it’s four games in seven days. How are you feeling? No, I feel great. Um, the more I play, the better I feel. So, that’s that’s always what you want to do as a goalie. You want to be the guy. You want to carry the load, help the team win, and and uh I’ve been feeling really good and and hopefully we’ll going to get some more results here soon. Is it sustainable to have this kind of a load? I think so. I’m feeling great so far. So, I’m I’m just living day by day, you know, just one day at a time and and not worrying too much about the future. The goal is obviously spend so much time together and probably get to know each other pretty well. So in a situation like this, I know you’re focused on the opportunity and the chance for you. What about the other part of it where you feel for Thatcher and what what he’s of course. Yeah, we’re all human beings and uh I don’t think anybody understands a goalie as well as another goalie. So um like I said, I haven’t had a chance to talk to him, so I don’t know. I’m not quite sure what’s what’s going on, but I hope for the best. How well prepared do you feel if it turns out you need to now play an extended stretch like you did last year? No, maybe not like last year, maybe not two months, but if you have to, you know, play a bunch of games. No, I’m I’m ready to play every single game. Um, that’s what I love to do. That’s what I always wanted to do. So, just got to keep preparing and help the team win. We talked to you about this a little last year. Do you feel if you as you’re playing more now, do you feel like you’re getting more into rhythm and things are coming to you a little more naturally than when you’re just a backup every third or fourth game? I think so. Yeah. And probably most of the goalies would would agree on that. You the game slows down slows down a little bit and you you make better reads when you’re in the game and and the preparation gets a little easier cuz cuz you’re in the rhythm and you’re you’re feeling it. So, uh, yeah, who knows what’s going to happen on the next few few days here, but, um, I’ve learned from this and, uh, get better. Yeah, I mean, I was just talking about with, uh, Demer, um, yeah, obviously not a good sign. Um, but he came back and he’s a warrior ever since I’ve been here. Um, you know, um, some of the stuff that he’s been going through and just in general, um, you know, he’s, uh, um, he does a great job of finding a way to come back. So, um, not too worried sometimes with him, but obviously when you see him grimacing or anyone for that matter, it’s, uh, it’s a hit. And the term resiliency is used a lot with this group. Like again, tonight you guys are pushing till the very end. What does that say kind of about this group when you have had all of these kind of injuries and situations that have come up? Well, yeah, we’re putting ourselves in those spots, though. You know, you can be as resilient as you want in this league, but um, we need results. It’s so tight. Um, you know, obviously it’s almost 20 games in now. Um that’s a good team over there and we’re right there with them. But there’s moments in the game, you know, that pass that rats gave me I put that in. It could be a different type of game. Um you know, there’s different chances that we had that just missed. Um but uh we have to collectively as a group try to make it less. Obviously, you can’t control injuries, but you can control how you play and um and also how you defend. So um we can make it a little easier on ourselves sometimes, especially against good teams. You give them a lead like that, they can just stand back and they know what to do. And um you know it’s one of those one of those uh yeah I mean I think that obviously you want to be known as resilient team but uh injuries happen to everybody and obviously we’ve been hit with a lot um but um you know there’s still a game to be played. What about Demer being out possibly? Yeah, I was just Yeah, I mean obviously uh tough um you know he’s he’s a he’s a baller as well and um you know obviously uh huge part of this team. Uh Kevin came in cold and he he did his thing. He he gave us a chance. He made that big stop right away. Um, give him a lot of credit. Um, against a team that likes to crash the net. But, uh, yeah, you know what? Honestly, it’s, uh, you just hope he gets back or he’s okay. But, uh, I mean, I don’t know. I just the game just ended. Does your backhander go in if that’s maybe not Hellbuck? I mean, that was a good move. Uh, that’s actually what I was thinking. Um, it’s funny you said that. The guy to stop you. Yeah. Well, I mean, obvious and also just as the way of his style, right? Um, I turned it to go fivefold, but um, probably should have raised that. you know, that was a big turning point in the game. Um, obviously the g the score didn’t change for a while, but that would have given us some boost in life and uh, you know, I usually don’t miss those, but I said the same thing on the bench. It’s funny you said that cuz I was like, if that’s any other goal, usually might hole might be open, but um, that’s my that’s on me to finish. That was a great pass. Adam, just start off with your thoughts on the game. We we had a good game. I mean, we I hate to talk about numbers, but we out chance them again five on five and um you know, they got we had a missed clear on a PK and then it hits our stick and goes in and then we were in a good pressure situation on the one killing pretty good and then we got two spread out and they they they got that goal. So, um that was the game. What can you tell us about Thatcher needing to leave after the first and what’s his status at the moment? Yeah, he uh lower body and you know, we’ll find out tomorrow the time. What was your reaction when Quinn Hughes went down and um how happy were you when he actually came back to the game? Yeah, well you just when he goes down obviously you don’t want to see that, right? Our captain um player of that high quality, but you just it it’s you just get ready for the what’s going to happen next and it was nice to see him come back. Uh, Evander Kane had about two minutes more of even strength ice time than any of his teammates tonight. It’s been a bit of a trend this season. Uh, is that part of the plan? Is that something that you like to see? Well, when you’re down two goals and you you don’t know how much opportunity you’re going to get, that line’s been producing um in zone. We’ve got a lot of chances. So, you’re trying to get back in the game and um you know, they’re producing down low. So, um yeah. Given what happened tonight, do you believe Thatcher was ready to play? Yes. The goalie tandem was touted as a real strength of this team heading into the season. How much do you rely on that heading uh into some uncertainty about what’s going on with that? Well, I think if you know, you look at the league, anyone that’s anyone that’s won, you know, gone deep in the playoffs have a good goalie. And we talked about this at being the year. It’s it’s like football. you got you need the quarterback and and you know we have a good goalie tan. So um you know it’s uh it is what it is. You know there’s going to guys are going to miss games, guys are going to get injured. Uh the penalty kill gives up two goals again. Y um this it’s two games in a row now where that’s pretty much cost you the game. Yeah. What needs to change in that with Well, we got to keep we got to keep working on it. I mean, we had a missed clear hits our own guy in the skate. We on that clear, we got to take our time. I think we have more time there than just turning spinning around. And then we had the pressure situation. We had a lot more pressure today. We’re doing well and we got then when they settled that we were kind of caught in between and um they made the play they made. Uh, we have to know when to be in right up pressuring or back off and we’re just caught a little bit, but overall the kill was better, but you just got to keep working on it. You know, we’re got a lot of new faces killing and and uh sometimes it goes like this and you just got to keep reeling it back in and keep teaching it. Someone who’s very important to the penalty kill, at least was last season, Teddy Bluger. Um, he wasn’t on the ice for the morning skate. Do you have any update on his availability? Will he travel on the road trip? I don’t have I he might travel. I’ll find out tomorrow, like tomorrow morning or even after. Right now, I don’t know for sure, but um I think there’s chances he will not play this road trip. More likely he won’t, but uh we’ll find out more in the morning.

Whoever asked what needs to change from the PK is like, you can just tweak one thing and boom, we’re #1 PK or something.
Fire the refs.
Not selling at the deadline last year was the second worst mistake Alvin has made. Not selling at this deadline will be his worst mistake.
At this point all I ask for is this team to be healthy.
been very frustrated with marcus petterson's play this season esp on that play where he gave a bad pass to sherwood which caused the jets pp goal
Sure hasn't sounded like a captain this year.
Lankinen can’t even win games as of late …
Once again, Thatcher Demko has proven he can’t stay healthy …
Stupid questions like what does it feel like to be called in last minute, is like telling him he should be nervous & not ready. He answered that it is his job and what he does. Let it go and ask more meaningful questions or ask none.
fix the pk asap it is killing us. multiple games now we could’ve won with a decent pk
🍿🙏🍿
Looks like Demko's popliteus is busted again. Better to trade him now while you can still get somewhat of a return for him
Man, Hughes has not sounded like a captin all year. Time to go if that's your attitude, buddy. While we were at it, someone grab Aquallini by the balls and force him into a rebuild.
Tired of everyone being so dramatic after every loss this is why we can’t have nice things
Reporters are asking some really dumb questions.
M.Petey's pass to sherwood was baffling
Jets got a couple lucky ones. Canucks need a few bounces to go our way. They're playing good hockey.
When does this management group get the boot?
Now if media folks could stop asking dumb questions, and have some positivity that would be nice. Always negative, always the same garbage questions. And whats with the lady reporter always asks the exact same question, word for word to multiple players and coaches sometimes? The media here is garbage most of the time.
As for the game, unfortunate loss. the nucks were the better team. ]3 of the goals by wpg were insanely lucky bounces and deflections, it happens sometimes. But even with all the injuries the nucks are like 2 points out of 10th overall in the league. This season is so close, that if nucks just go on a small run of a few wins in a row they'll be 2nd in their division. Clean up the PK is key though. Still plenty of hockey left in the season. Last year, STL was so far out of playoff spot in January, but they still made it in the end.
Who would have thought Demko hurt again what a folly of a management group
