LIVE: The Houston Texans address the media
Working lunch. Working lunch. That’s fair. All right. Back today the NFL named Denil Hunter of the AFC was what you see from that performance. You’ve watched him a lot, but in terms of how he was finishing, closing out. Yeah, sure. I think uh honestly in both phases, I think probably underrated a little bit of just how he was setting edges and playing the run. I mean, obviously the sack production was there. um really just felt like his his get off and his like surge in the rush was just very consistent like man wasn’t wasting any movement. Uh just really had some just real efficient like really elite rushes and then just the way he set edge in the run game. I mean obviously the TFL numbers and and stuff really helped us snuff out a couple things on the perimeter. So uh deservingly uh deservingly awarded that uh that honor and hopefully we can keep that that going. Sometimes you got to we joke, you know, he had I think four games where he had had a sack. So sometimes you got to see the ball go in the net and and then it opens up. So hopefully uh he can keep that that momentum going. Um Matt, one of the things that I know you guys always talk about is finishing and the players as talked about it last week how that’s the thing that they knew as a defense they needed to do. What is it like to see them actually finally finish? Yeah. Yeah. Like I said that, you know, I think I talked about that after the the Denver game, like, hey, we want to be in those spots and that’s that’s what we’re about. And and so just to see those guys go out and obviously, you know, them having obviously a really good kicker with a with a big leg that we had a a pretty tight window to defend. Uh so it wasn’t like we’re just playing off like we had to play some tight coverage and and pressure a little bit and do some different things. And for those guys to to step up in those moments and make plays, uh it was it was exciting to see. Man, I was happy for those dudes. Just you kind of touched on it there. Did you find yourself doing things you normally wouldn’t do because of Cam’s leg? Uh, honestly, I think probably just in general in the way the league is now. Well, I mean, there’s not I mean, he’s obviously got a huge leg, but I think that’s pretty common uh in the league in terms of I just think between the kickoff uh protocol and where the balls are starting and obviously all the big legs. I knew the the new Kball stuff and how they’re preparing like you just there’s probably some like less margin for error in some of those situations because of uh starting field position, big legs, where you’re defending in terms of the you know where the the offense is trying to get to if you’re defending a field goal. So, I mean, obviously that’s an extreme version when you know the 50 yard line’s kind of your marker for for where the field goal is. But I think just I would say it’s probably fairly common in the NFL these days in general. Like, you know, you kick in the end zone, the ball’s on the 35 yard line, you got 15 20 yards to defend for a two-minute drive really, you know. So, uh I just think there’s just some different thought process and how you have to defend some of those situations. We have some great video of you and Sheldon after the game kind of embracing his play. I was curious um if you don’t mind if you could share us what you were telling him and if it’s safe if it’s safe for work. Uh probably not. I don’t even know. I was speaking in tongues probably at that point man. I mean it was obviously uh you know an exhausting game and obviously you know you’re because you’re in those situations and you’re on edge that you know every play and you know we were fortunate you know um we were able to save the timeout for Demo to sort of like take the timeout to get us settled in that very last play. Um, but like up to that, I mean, because they had the big scramble, then they came back, the penalty. I mean, it was just back and forth. So, like when it ended, just watching rank rumble in the end zone, man, I’m not even sure what I had going through my mind. I was it was definitely a sense of relief. Uh, I was just exhausted, but just happy for him. Like, uh, you know, he he was out for a little bit, got a little finger earlier, like all that stuff. And just to see him finish it like that was really fun. So, I I wish I could tell. You have to ask him that. his memorab mine. Day out for the season and now having Jaylen still in the protocol. What are some things that you faced this week in terms of figuring out the personnel at the Nick? Yeah, sorry for MJ, man. Like obviously he’s done a great job for us this year and and man, heart goes out to him and I know he’ll he’ll get back and um but just like anything, I mean, I hate to say it that way to transition like that, but just, you know, next man up mentality. We got a lot of guys that were getting ready just like we talked about last week uh that we had some different groups and different people that had to step up and um you know Miles did a great job for us man like coming and playing a couple different spots and and stuff. So uh I just feel like we’ve got a good group in that room of of just a mix of young guys, veteran guys that have some versatility that can play some different spots. And again, it’s another week that, you know, we’ll see how Jaylen progresses and um we’re just getting all those guys ready to play because and then again, like, you know, we had a plan and then MJ gets hurt and the plan changes and we have to do some different things. So, uh really just trying to like keep working guys in different spots and uh you know, use our depth and and and try to fill in accordingly. Jacksonville to you 11 total yards in the fourth quarter. At what point did you see that defense take that next step go up another gear? Man, I felt like like uh I don’t know after the first touchdown uh was that Higs touchdown like we’re down 19 after the first one and I remember we’re on the sideline and our offense was kind of moving and and I just kept saying like, “Hey, we score here like the next one’s going to be the one.” Like we get a turnover like that changes the game. Like that was our mindset. Like all the guys like I was like hey we get one it changes the game. So once we scored, you just felt like, okay, like let’s go see. And we got that first three and out with the sack, one of one of the hunt sacks that got us the ball back with decent field position. I felt like that was really where I mean, our guys were resilient all game, you know? I mean, there’s a lot of stuff kind of getting thrown at us between the injury stuff and and obviously some of the situational things that happened and getting down early and uh I felt like there was never like a we’re not blinking and we’re going out and doing it, but I felt like, man, like once that offense punched that one in, like our guys were just like, “Okay, like here we go.” So that was cool to go out, get that three out, get the ball back real quick for offense to kind of get the second one and and then it kind of rolled from there. You spoke about turnover. You know, of course Derek had an amazing interception, you know. Is that did that surprise you at all or this just something you’re used to seeing? Yeah, I mean nothing surprises me with him anymore from catching the ball. I mean uh again another spot I mean just similar to the end of the game like end of the half. I mean, again, defending a defending a long field with a with a kicker with a big leg. So, we had to play some tight coverage. So, put him in, you know, in a man coverage situation there for him to have to cross the field and then undercut it and and make that one in catch like a huge play for us at the time to to to keep the scoring down. Is there a key or two to building off the incredible finish, maintaining that remark? You guys have been awfully good all year, but but that was something else. Yeah. Uh, honestly, I probably like the opposite of like keeping the motions in check a little bit and not letting it be, oh, we got it. All right, cool. We arrived. Like that’s a huge emotional swing obviously on the day and and I think a little bit of the messaging about just, hey man, let’s get back to work here. Like another divisional opponent like you know, we’ve been in this spot where we’ve kind of closed the gap to get back to 500 a couple times this year and haven’t been able to close it out and and kind of get back level. So, like, hey, let’s let’s put our head down and and that that was great and we obviously enjoyed that and really cool like a unique game and a and a fun experience to kind of go through, but uh I almost like you can’t let that bleed over into this week like we have to lock back in and have a day of preparation today and and kind of get back to work. So, um I’m not sure, you know, there’s anything you can hope we don’t have to win that way again. Hopefully, it’s a little different style this week. So, um really just trying to make sure the guys get back to work and focus in on on the details of what we do. We left a lot on the ta on the table to be honest with you in some of the earlier parts of the game. So, uh, make sure we’re cleaning those things up and and playing a little bit better brand of ball to start. Going back to Denil, sorry, going back going back to Denil, a lot of times like in in basketball when guys get going, you know, they get really hot and they’re scoring a lot. You guys talk about, man, you can just kind of see it in their eyes. Was there something that you saw in him, it’s just how he turned up? Yeah, I think that’s probably anyone like you talk I mean like any position or sport, you know what I you kind of get in that flow state and you’re feeling it. You’re you got the hot hand in basketball, whatever it is, you know what I mean? In soccer and you’re seeing the net looks real big like man, I don’t know. You just, you know, once you get going, I think and he was obviously in uh in whatever mo mode he was in. We told him he’s going to have the same breakfast he had on Sunday. So, um, but again, I think I think honestly like De Hunt like he’s a very like steady person and he tries to approach every game the same way and, um, but I think yeah, once it starts flowing and you kind of feel yourself, then then everything starts working for you. So, like I said, we got to try to get him back there rest. You guys have faced uh Tennessee before. What is it as you face in this time? Yeah. Uh, I know they’ve made some changes in the staff, but what do you what do you what are the challenges about this team? Yeah. Uh, I think they have good players and I think uh they’ve done a really good job of um I would say, you know, starting our game and kind of moving forward just trying to uh put the quarterback in position to make plays. He’s got a live arm. Uh he’s really really really talented outside the pocket and and throwing on the move. Um and so I think they’re just trying to play to his strength some. uh you know, we didn’t uh face Taj Spears when uh in our first game, uh who was a different element in the running game from an explosive standpoint. Uh they’ve got some linemen back from our first game. Um you know, I think so, you know, they got two rookie receivers that they’re playing that have obviously had some more experience that have starting to show up uh 17 and five have gotten better. So, um I think they’ve just done a good job of trying to continue to put the quarterback in spots to be successful. and uh he’s made a lot a lot of flash plays that uh you know he he can he can run the ball down the field. So we got to be really good and make sure that we’re not giving those explosive opportunities. You mentioned getting back to 500, haven’t done it yet. Obviously it’s not the goal, but like what does getting to 500 mean for a team? OB I mean obviously it’s it’s week to week and you want to win, but I think there’s just some psychological uh effects to that of like okay we’re back here and kind of leveled and then like make our stretch run. You know, for me, I would say like the the time between like Halloween and Thanksgiving is like that sort of middle part of the season where everyone’s kind of like slogging through and then you kind of get past Thanksgiving, you have a sense of where you’re at. So, to kind of get us through this whatever quarter of the season we’re at and and come out where we’re in a position to to make a push and and do, you know, all the things that we set out to do, I think that’s where we’re at. So, this week’s the first step in that and and getting a win and and getting back to where we want to be. and hopefully that uh that’s where we go. You saw Cam only his fourth NFL start. How have you seen him grow uh kind of over over his NFL? Yeah, like I said, I think he’s just I think you know all rookies period and rookie quarterbacks in general like there’s a huge growth curve and I think he’s obviously got a lot of time on task and um I think they’ve just tailored the offense to some of his strengths and like I said he’s moving the pocket. he’s really good uh when it’s clean form and I mean like he he’s made some really wild throws. Like it’s very impressive to watch some of the plays he’s made down the field. Um so I just think like his growth in terms of how they’re operating the offense for him and they’ve changed some of the structures of what they’re doing it looks like a little bit just I think for him and and what he’s doing. I think there’s been a lot of growth for that kid. So uh young man, pardon me, I hate to say that. Um so uh I think you know they’re coming off a by-week and whatever. they’ve decided to sort of continue that that trend to for him to to be better like we’ve got to be prepared for regarding um he’s the perception versus how people that have come to interact with him that they’re obviously vastly different. Um, what is it about Ziz that allows him to be that charismatic, empathetic guy position where he’s so physical, but he knows how to like kind of turn switch off all four teams off. Uh, not quite sure where you go with that. Let me let me try. I’ll try. Basically about how kind of a person. Yeah, he is kind. Oh, say his public perception maybe doesn’t match up with that. Yeah, I don’t know, man. I think you know like I don’t know been around a lot of guys like that. I mean I think most of our guys in our locker room are good people and and he’s an exceptionally kind person and caring person and uh very empathetic and I again like some of you guys that know his his background and and everything like I think that plays into it and I think he’s a physical player on the field. He’s fast, he’s explosive, and he hits. And uh you know, I think that that perception of him is is how he plays and his style of of football is however people categorize that is is one way, but uh anyone I think you guys included like that have gotten to know him as a person, as a man, uh have nothing but great things to say about him and the work he does in the community and the work he does in the locker room and with younger players and everybody like uh it’s exceptional. So, I don’t it’s not very hard for me to separate because I I know who he is as a person and um and I respect the way he plays football, too. So, cool. All right, guys. Okay. um for the Titans um going up against uh John Fossil and um watching the tape, man, do they play spirited, aggressive, and um uh you can tell that they are trying to and have successfully injected life into their um team through a fourth down unit. So um every week, each team that you play, you’ve got to bow up every single Sunday. And for us, like they are big, they are strong, they will knock back. So for our guys, it’s going to be a um a test uh uh to see can we match up with that? Can we bring physicality to the game? And um uh the the number one task at hand is stopping uh Chim DK, number 17, their returner, who’s an explosive returner, and shoring up our side of things with our tackling and our lanes and leverage. So, um, got to find a way to make sure we stand up to their size and tackle the football, uh, uh, with physicality and finish. Uncharacteristic, uh, kind of performance by your special teams unit last week. How do you address that and how do you clean up some of that stuff? Yeah. So, the first thing is is you don’t just, man, we don’t roll that off and just say that’s not us like that’s our tape. We have to own that. We have to make sure we correct honestly and making sure that we are holding ourselves to what we think is a high standard. So, I’m going to start with disciplining our alignment, our assignment, and then when we’re at the point of attack, like playing off of each other. I’ve always said we’re an aggressive tackling unit team. Take your shot, go make that returner check his feet. If you miss, your buddy will clean up for you and play off of each other. If you don’t do that and somebody hesitates, a lot of hesitation, okay, that’s going to start with me and my teachings and my um uh emphasis on that. So, um doesn’t matter how good every week there’s good players. That’s a good returner, but that’s not an excuse for us. We got a a really good returner this week. He’s maybe the fastest returner we’ll see. So, um, uh, we have to be sure with discipline, playing with and off of each other, and making sure that we’re tackling the ball sound, purely, um, and it’s all going to work together. You trying to flip field, you got to have to cover space. So, we got to force fair catches, you got to win on the perimeter and um, uh, do our job together collectively. From Jaylen Null here, what are you looking for from Jaylen Null to be your guy, whether it be punt or a kick return, that every time you run out there, he’s your returner? Yeah, I I think we’ve kind of talked about it multiple times. I think I will always play to the nuance of how people are being used on every side of the football. Like who’s available is not going to be a 17 times over repeat thing. It’s just not. The NFL is too violent. There’s um you know a lot of sprinting that happens. Like we lost a gunner two weeks ago because we punted what like eight eight times something like that. Like that’s a lot of sprint yards. And so those things are always going to be I think um Jaylen is obviously somebody that I am so glad that we’re here. He is our starting returner um on both a combo as both kick and punt return weekly down uh down in and out situation in the game trying to get other great players footballs is all going to always play into that. So it’s not a wishy-washy answer. I’m just the truth is is we always will rotate if we have that luxury or if it’s um afforded to do that on purpose. Okay. Frank, is Ky Fairburn making some progress with the quad and do you anticipate Matt kicking for you on Sunday the way this is going? Yeah, and I know I anticipated that question. I think just without without coach coming up first and starting to lead the week, I’ll just leave all the injury stuff to him. I know we’re talking about a kicker. Um um but uh everybody I just do I do know Emy is working hard and um uh recovering hard and I would say just let coach handle all the injury discussions. How emotional was it for you to watch this team come back the way it did on Sunday? Yeah, it like the question earlier we didn’t have a good special teams game. We are playing football. It is the ultimate team game and I don’t care what happened in the first play of the game, the second play of the game, the first, it’s how you finish and it’s a collective effort and the toughness that showed up for the Texans is something that we’ve been potentially, you know, willing to and finding and unlocking that, God, that hope that permeates for every game we play. And that is the NFL. winning the game in the final minutes, as dramatic fashion as that was, that’s as much as you’ll ever get, was exciting, awesome, and um uh always if you have things to clean up after a win or loss, it’s always better to do after a win. I know you always say that, you know, you can use anybody, you know, as far on special teams, but um rank is going to get an opportunity now the way that he was able. Let him tote that thing. Let him tote the thing. Come on. Great question. Run that rhino return. Good luck tackling him. Yeah. You guys good? Okay. Thanks. Good to see you guys. the way Davis performed, particularly in the fourth quarter, orchestrating your offense. What are some things that jumped out to you? I thought just poise, consistency, um never too high, never too low, great command. Um just really steady and it’s exactly what he’s been ever, you know, since my exposure around him and I’m sure well before me here. When you guys were heading into the fourth quarter with that deficit, did you say anything to the team differently or like what because that was obviously a very different fourth quarter than we’ve seen all season. What happened going into Sure. Well, I think no, just one play at a time. Same thing. We were, you know, got a good rhythm, executing, moving the ball. Um, you could see it. The guys the guys were playing within themselves and and going out and executing and it was clean football and I think it just continued to build as we went through the fourth quarter. What went into uh Woody taking the bulk of apps on Sunday and is this still kind of a game plan rotation or is he kind of taking that leap back role? Yeah, well, I think it goes with, you know, everything. You know, you go into a game and and you sit there and you try to, you know, you try to have balance in a variety of ways for all the right reasons and sometimes, you know, you get into a rhythm and and he played well and he was playing well down the stretch. I think they both compliment him and Nick both compliment each other. So, he did well. Um, you know, it’s hard to say how every game’s going to go. Sometimes it doesn’t go the way you want it to, but he did a great job and, you know, I thought played consistent throughout the game and happy with his performance for sure. What do you seem for him to be able to handle like a 60 snap workload? Yeah, I mean, just consistency. I mean, he’s gotten better every single week. Um, not just as a runner. I mean, obviously he can catch the ball, but blitz pickup, you know, he’ll he’ll put his face on guys and and be physical and and that’s a big part of what we ask those guys to do. So, it’s just a complete package and just continuing to get better and learning from things as we go. And there’s plenty to learn from, too, as we get going. offensive line. Um, you talked a lot about the offensive line. Can you talk about what you got from the line last week, especially a guy like Trent Brown who hadn’t played all season? Yeah, I I think grit, toughness, um, strain, finish. Those guys played hard. Um, it’s not ever perfect. Um, but they played they played their tails off, you know, from start to finish and didn’t go the way that we wanted to collectively start. Um, but they they settled in and they, you know, there was great communication on the sideline, on the bench through adjustments and stuff like that. and I just thought they were really really focused. You look at new starters along the offensive line and and what did you make of specifically Jared as well? Yeah, I think you know, look, we what goes into it is just what what can we do to give ourselves what we feel throughout the course of the week or cumulative um body of work to give ourselves the best chance to to go out there and compete. And so, whoever’s out there, that’s what we felt, you know, was best for the the team. I thought Jared played, you know, tough, played played I mean, he’s smart. He’s a competitor. He’s got a lot of flex. He’s played a lot of football. So really happy the way that he battled throughout the game. Point City So what was the evaluation on him to get the start and what changed after just nine snaps were like no like that’s not it? Yeah I think just every single week every you know again it’s a body of work. So you know City had put out really good you know I would say consistent performances day after day of practice and given an opportunity to go out there and compete. Um nothing more nothing less. We’re going to always have an opportunity to compete. I don’t think anything’s fixed. Um you know and and that’s what practice is for. So Nick, when it comes to Sunday and if CJ obviously he remains in the protocol, you’ll start Davis again. If uh you do that having had two weeks with Davis, how much do you think you can maybe even do even more with him in offense? Yeah, I mean I think I said this last week um you know, he has great command and great awareness and and ownership of the offense. He has since we’ve been here been very pleased with him. Um he’s a pro and he’ll always be prepared. He always is prepared and you know got a lot of faith in him. How much? Thanks. For sure. How much of the uh offensive production from Nico Collins was just I mean was due to the familiarity between him and Davis? I don’t you know I that I don’t know anything for me to guess that would be me just making stuff up. I’m not going to do that. I mean I think he play Mo is a big part of our offense. Davis obviously has played a long time with him. Uh we have a system here obviously with Davis and and CJ and those guys. So I think just you know being able to have that chemistry just in general I don’t think it ever hurts. Certainly um they they’ve played a lot of football together. So, um, you know, Nico is a competitor, made some big time plays for us and and, you know, have a lot of respect for him. How would you evaluate Davis the pre- snap and all that type of stuff, the freedom to change plays at the line of scrimmage? Is that something that was that took place on on Sunday? Sure. Yeah. No, he’s he’s got great command, total command, and and um, again, just like, you know, I just had mentioned, he’s he’s a he’s into it. I mean, he’s very smart, very hardworking. He prepares, he works at it. Um, he’s here early, stays late. um watches a lot of tape. So, you know, first class in every way and really cares about the position. So, yeah, I mean there was no nothing holding him back at all from that standpoint. What what kind of decision did you make fourth quarter comeback looking at the scoreboard? You stick with the running game enough and a couple of your linemen talked to us about what an effect that had on Jacksonville. Did you make that conscious decision to stick to it enough and and what effect did you see that have? Yeah, I well I think that you know we want to be able to run the football and I think that throughout the course of the game we felt good about getting efficient runs off. You know we were running I know that the volume at the end of the day whatever ended up being in the low 20s or whatnot it wasn’t super super high but we were running the ball efficiently and effectively and I think that’s important to be able to settle it down and be able to stick runs in there and do those things. And I have a lot of faith and confidence in those guys and they did a really good job and they competed and you know again there’s a lot of obviously more opportunities than pass protection up front but we did a really good job. I felt like, you know, being able to stay connected and and move, you know, move the line of scrimmage for those guys in the backs did a really good job of of, you know, utilizing those blocks. Your perspective, um, how were you able emotionally cuz, you know, close of the game, it’s easy to kind of fall into the trap of how the flow of the game is going, kind of reacting off of that. How were you able to like kind of lock in and just stick to your script even though the score was what it was, which allow take the same coaching points that I give our guys. take it one play at a time and just stay grounded and and focus on what’s a task. Not, you know, not not looking ever ahead and trying to learn from anything that would have come up, any adjustments that we need to make and then just trying to be totally present and calm so that we can we can operate and do the things we want to do. That’s that’s what I’m always trying to do. Obviously, a lot of the success you have in in a game can be game to game. It could be just in that game. Is there anything you guys did specifically well on Sunday against Jack Jacksonville that you think you can really carry over to another week? Well, I think the second half we we played cleaner. We were more efficient. We we were able to move the ball forward more consistently. I think the first half was just couldn’t really stay out of our own way a little bit. You know, got into some some bad long yardage situations, which always makes it tough. Never could really get into a a rhythm, I would say. So, I think we were able to put some positive play. Not that the third quarter, there’s been not many plays in the third quarter either, but, you know, being able to just continue to get positive plays, continue to convert on on third down and possession downs and and really just be able to operate our offense. And I thought that it was a testament to our guys really going out and executing um and, you know, and doing a great job of that. Nothing more, nothing less. I think Eric Harvest had some success, especially inside against you guys. You’re gonna play Simmons and Sweat back this time. Yeah. What are some things that you kind of got to take from this game to clean up with the interior line? Yeah, I think we just got to play really, really good fundamental football. I mean, they’re really, really I mean, you know, you talk about Simmons. I mean, they play really hard up front. Um, you know, they they get off the ball, they press the pocket, they knock guys back. So again, it’s fundamentals, it’s toughness, and it’s consistency in doing all that. You know, that’s the truest measure of performance is just doing it down after down in a consistent manner. We’ve asked you a lot about um Tay, how he’s progressing. Yeah. Um he’s faced some of the obviously best guys off the edge, especially last week with Hines Allen. Can you just talk about where he is now, what you’ve seen, especially against some of those tough guys? Yeah, I think he’s in a good place. I really do. I think he’s continued to show toughness. Um he cares. He he wants to get better. He works at it. same thing that has been the case since we got him here right after the draft just obviously with more reps and more now he’s got some more games under his belt but um I think he’s playing playing good football I mean he’s playing tough he’s playing disciplined football in terms of alignment and leverage and and those type of things uh hand usage is getting better so just got to continue on that track um he’s conscientious of that and I think that you know you know Cole and Zach do a really good job with those guys and he’ll continue to hopefully stay right on that trajectory but I’m I’m pleased with him I really am you guys. Yeah. Was there anything I’m sorry I missed the first part, but was there anything positive that you saw from um right guard or or one of the guard positions that you were hoping to see? Um given that you all were having a rotation there. Yeah, I think they settled in. I think as the game went on, we got settled in. Um, and I think that there was a lot of good. What I really appreciated was down the stretch we were able to to really settle down, communicate, be more efficient, uh, take care of, you know, being tighter with our run game fundamentals, be cleaner in pass protection. And I think just collectively the interior part did a great job. But I think that extended to everybody, too. You know, you had Trent out there for the first time at right tackle, too. So, there’s some new faces, but again, um this was two weeks ago or whatever it was when I asked was asked a question by somebody in here like we we do change things up at times like every other place I’ve been just in terms of being able to have some flex with those lines so that you’re never in a position where hopefully not in the position where the first time a guy’s ever playing together is out on a Sunday. You’re trying to build those reps throughout the week. So, I thought they did a really good job. I thought collectively we got better and cleaner as the game went along. That was the best thing we could have done and those guys up front really helped us helped make it feel that way even more I think when you can settle down the line of scrimmage. Well, DJ, sorry. What can you say about your unit having a tough year, having a real tough to game to start? Yeah. Fighting through that, persevering to have some success and they contribute to the win. Yeah, I mean I’m proud of them. I really am. I think that they that is a tough group that cares a lot about doing the right thing. And I would say collectively we haven’t been consistent enough um over the course of the season. And you know, we’re striving to do that and we’re working hard to do that. And I thought you saw a lot of grit. You saw a lot of tough and when those guys get you going up front, I think it’s a catalyst for for a lot of other things. And I was really proud of the way that they competed. And you know, they do that every single day. I mean, I don’t have to worry about those guys coming to work ready to do it. It’s just we got to continue as a group to to just do it a little bit better, cleaner, and and be more efficient with those things. you’re about nine, you’ve called about nine games. How do you feel like your viewpoint uh you know group on the sidelines how much has your I guess your vision on how you’re watching the plays? How much has that improved from week one all the way to now just in terms of like positioning because obviously you can’t see everything. So how do you feel like your position how you’re seeing the game live in action? Sure. Being able to kind of go through your play sheet based off what you’re seeing along with the health. How do you feel like that’s Yeah. No, I feel I feel good. I mean, I feel like anything else, it’s, you know, the more the more reps you get into it, like anything else, the better off it is. And, um, but I feel good. I feel good about being able to see it. I feel good about the communication that we have within a staff. That’s what the staff’s for, too. I mean, we have good dialogue, good communication. We solve problems together, and that’s that’s what a staff does. Um, so, got a really good staff. Um, good people. We’ve got co uh, coaches and players that are connected that that communicate well on the sideline and get good feedback, and we we solve problems. you know, look at the pictures, see what we had on the live takes and be able to see how we want to move forward, you know, from series to series. And, you know, sometimes, you know, you get some unscouted looks. Sometimes it’s more similar to what you thought you were going to get and you go from there. But, um, I feel good about the communication. I feel good about the approach and and the and the vantage point. Definitely. Follow that. Sorry about that. Follow follow up on that quickly. How difficult, you know, just from the I guess fan perspective, the media perspective. How difficult can that be to like try to see what’s going on as fast as it’s happening and then try to call plays in the midst of a series off of that? Yeah. I mean, I think what you do is you try again, you try to take it one play at a time. You prepare for situations. You build that through the week and you have you have your contingency plans and you have your solves for certain things, whether it’s front structures, whether it’s coverage structures, you know, that you don’t anticipate that you know how to solve for uh different things. And I think you attack it as you see it. I don’t think you chase ghost. I think you go out with a good plan that you put forth with the staff and the players throughout the week. You set forth the game plan. You see it live. You you try to go back and you look after each series to try to look at, you know, everything that’s happening. How can we improve this? Are there any issues? How do we solve those things and you talk through it, you have dialogue and then you you communicate with the players and we and we try to clean it up and go from there. And I think it’s a continuous uh process throughout the course of a game from start to finish. Um, and you know, I feel like we have good communication and and a good approach from that standpoint. With the way that Davis was able to end that last offensive possession by making the decision to take the ball out and scramble, get out of the pocket, it’s something that CJ has done as well, being able to use his legs more. When you were watching film on them before you even came in and start putting together the playbook, was that something that you seen that you could use from both of them to be advantageous for you all? Yeah, I think both of those guys to answer your question like first of all on defense they’re a very good defense a lot of zone coverage they’ll get a lot of depth. Um but I think you know th when we’re calling a pass play obviously there the intent is to to read them out and to have a reason for why we’re obviously trying to throw the football. I think those two both have um a really good ability to use utilize their legs and they’ve shown that. So I think it was a really good move on on you know a good call instinctive play by by uh Davis obviously to go out there and do that. um you know trying to game plan a bunch of uh of run opportunities when when we have you know players out in the patterns and stuff like that. Thanks. Yeah, thank you guys. Yep.
