Justin Herbert On Facing Jaguars Defense | LA Chargers
How are you uh feeling physically? Yeah, doing well. Thank you. Your ankle tape ankles tape coming up on Sunday. Anything this week you’re dealing with as far as the angles? Probably just the same thing. Just keeping an eye on them and they just got rolled up on. But u being smart, doing whatever I can to uh you know, make sure I’m ready to go on Sunday. What have you, uh seen from Jacksonville defensively? Yeah, they’re really good. They’ve done a really good job of forcing turnovers. I think they’re maybe second in the league in interceptions and um you know they’ve got some premier edge rushers. Um great Dline as well. Just guys up front are able to get after the passer and you know ball security and uh making sure that we’re not um forcing any turnovers is is going to be very important for us. It’s an emphasis this week and um you know they’re very well coached and you turn on the the tape and they’re going to do a lot of different things. Blitz guys from a lot of different places. So, um, we got to watch as much as we can, get a good feel for it. I know it’s not your style, but do you need to maybe stand up for yourself a little bit more with the refs and the late hits? I know you were pretty demonstrated once. Yeah, I think uh, you know, I think I let it know. I let it um I let the refs know when I thought there was a late hit. Um, but it’s part of the game and, you know, they’ve got a job, too, and it’s it’s tough to call it as as they’re seeing it. So, um, you know, what I thought it it might not have been in reality, but, uh, you know, I think it’s just part of the game and whether we get the call or not, um, we’re going to have to run another play the next play. So, I got to get back up and and get back into the huddle. You can’t get too far out of your head space. You have to be, you know, in the moment. Is that what you mean? Like, you got another play to call, another play to to uh, run effectively. Is that is that what you mean? Yeah, I think arguing isn’t isn’t going to get me anywhere, you know, if I if I make a big deal out of it. um you know, odds are they’re not going to call it. Um you know, the more I fight and the more I push for it, I I think they’re going to get more and more likely to not call it. And so I I think uh for me it’s if they call it, great. If we get, you know, that 15 yards, then we’re moving forward. But uh if not, I got to get back up. Um you know, I can express my emotions and say, you know, I I thought that was a a late hit or something like that, but at the end of the day, it’s it’s out of my control and I got to get back into the huddle. As far as your uh like internal clock in a game far as like when pass rush is coming and when you sort of feel like you have to get rid of the ball, do you go into a game with sort of an idea of what your internal clock is going to be like? Does that change over the course of the game based on what’s happening with the pass rush? How does that sort of work for you as far sort of feeling when you need to get rid of the ball? uh you got to do your best to to see defenders whenever they’re they’re coming through. And um you know, I think at the end of the day, you got to be able to sit back in the pocket and if no one’s getting through, then you got all all the time in the day and you can sit back there and you can make those throws and sit in the pocket. But uh if someone breaks through or there’s, you know, a free runner, then it’s time to um think about, hey, where do I get the ball out? Uh is a throwaway all right? Is there a scramble lane? Um and that’s just part of playing quarterback of of seeing that and being able to adapt quickly. Do you change your approach to that based on like who’s playing up front for you guys? Like obviously is your internal clock different when you know, for example, when you have Rashan and Joe out there versus like not having them out there. Does that change at all for you? No, I think uh I think you’re just going based on the defense. Um you know, if you see a guy rushing up the field, then you know you you’ve got an issue. Or if there’s a guy coming down the the A or B gap, um you know, you got an issue. You got to get the ball out quickly. You got to step up, you got to move. Um but uh you’re you’re you’re dropping back trying to keep your eyes downfield at the same time see those defenders and so it’s it gets pretty tough but um you know that’s part of the job and uh for us as quarterbacks if if you’re trying to get the ball too quickly and there’s no defenders then you know you you’ve wasted an opportunity to push the ball downfield. Um so it’s it’s based on the defense and um you know obviously the more you get pressured the more likely you are you’re going to feel it more but uh that’s just part of the game and just calming your feet down and just making sure you’re getting the ball out on time. That’s sort of what I was getting at like you do you like over the course of a game you do feel it a little bit. So how do you sort of balance that as far as like when you start feeling like okay maybe the clock’s getting sped up you know but at the same time you know still looking for those plays. Yeah. Um you know I guess you could you could think about if you had five or six plays in a row where there was pressure the seventh one you can’t let those five or six affect your seventh one. And so if you’re dropping back on those five and six and you got to get the ball out quickly or you throw it away, the seventh one, they might block perfectly and you got to take your time and and go through all the reads. And so it really is play by play and you never want to get rid of the ball too quickly because then you’re missing a shot downfield. And um you know that’s where it’s it’s difficult, but uh that’s part of the game where you got to just sit back and stay comfortable, calm your feet down and make sure you’re going through your reads. You got Jacksonville coming up. It’ll be the first trip there since the playoff game a few years ago. What What do you remember about that game and and or have you just blocked it out entirely? No, I remember I remember every game I’ I’ve ever played in. Do you really? The other big It’s my job. I know. We play a lot of games. Yeah. What What’s What stood out about that one? Uh yeah, it was a playoff game that we lost and not much more to it than that. Second half just didn’t move the ball. What changed? Did anything change in that game? Did they do anything different? Yeah, we’ve had plenty of opportunities to talk about that game. I think that’s uh two or three years out of the past and we’ve moved on since then and uh we’ve all learned from it so we’re moving forward.

We gon bring the thunder to Jacksonville, show em Herbert ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Time to exorcise the Staley stench! BTFU! ⚡⚡⚡
I knew that playoff game question was coming. Justin may not show it on camera but I just know he wants to make up for it. He knows he can't leave Duval without the W. It'll be bitter sweet
Really subtle comment that it is defense that impacts the internal clock not who is on the O-Line or pass protect, super intelligent response
Another is the reaction to the previous game
God I hope the Oline can protect Herbert before the by
This guy is an absolute beauty. What a pleasure to watch him continue to grow as a player and person. We are extremely lucky to have him.
Cold blooded is how
the media treats Herbo
We are so blessed we have such a mature and excellent player on this team, not just as a quarter back.
Time for revenge let’s get this W
To the guy asking Herbert to break down the Jags playoff game:
That’s a clown question bro
Jeez how many different ways can the ask the same questions. I wish Justin would tell them to STFU sometimes
Why does pooper always ask questions that the teams we are playing would want to know?
Dude is like the anti-Tua. I don’t think he has ever blamed a single thing on anyone but himself.
you know Herbert wants to go 100% full sarcasm mode on popper
it was reality Justin. fing bush league cheap shots pansy ass kermit gets EVERY fing time
gets meaning gets the call!!
cringe on the last reporter
Man he’s maturing in front of our eyes. Even the look in his eyes on the field now. Dude is not fuckin around. Got the the killer mentality now.
The media are clowns straight up. What kind of questions are these. Herbert handled it like a boss, I feel like jumping from the podium and strangling these idiots
Herbert is the REAL MVP.
Who else is going 7-3, while being second in passing yards, first in rushing yards for QB, 3rd in TDs, and doing this with STATISTICALLY the bottom ranked O Line per position???
Case closed.
Edit: also. Did Madison Beer leave her mark on Herbo’s right side of his neck?? 👀 😅
I want that shirt, so clean that black
Yup give this guy a few more seconds and hitting the 1st down
That’s a hickey Justin!! My boy is growing up!! 😢
The look in his eyes changed when asked about the jags last win might just throw 7 tds on the jags Defense 5:02
To all the pearl clutchers Herbert can handle tough questions, he is compensated and trained for this situation. Be worried when he gets po-ed. Then we (chargers fam) have problems. R E L A X, and BOLT TF- UP
Every offensive lineman wants to play for this man.
Pop are you Dumb?! These questions are hideous…
Did Pop not play any sports growing up?
Amazing……

🦾precision power, most handsome, greatest quarterback ever⚡️
On pace for 200 + hits , 290 + pressures , he has 33 sacks , just 8 away form LAST years career high ?So , what , like 2 more games & he sets that mark , again ? 204 sacks in his career in 5 years & 10 games , 30 MORE then what Andrew Luck had in 6 full season's & he got killed ? David Carr in 10 NFL season had 267 sacks . Herbert sets just 63 sacks behind him & 7 more games to go ? He should be around 215 to 220's range , if he makes to the end of this season ? This PROBLEM goes way back to the last few years of P . Rivers career and has NOT gotten any BETTER in the past decade ?
"Do you remember that playoff game?"
" Yes"
"What happened?"
"Fuck you"
What went wrong in that second half of Jacksonville? "Well lets see ,our defense gave up five straight scoring drives because our HC who called the defense went into prevent defense with two minutes left in the first half giving them momentum going into halftime. He then asked me not to turn the ball over ,which i didnt, called dive plays with a 5'8 running back averaging 2.2 yards a carry and asked me to get first down on third and long with only one healthy wr because he played our starters in a meaniless game the week before and got our biggest threat injured for no apparent reason.I had two long time consuming drives with all that which produced a chip shot fg and a missed fg from 40 yards.I then took the blame for the entire loss for the next three years ." Thats what Herbert should have said
5:41 haha.. You tell him Herbo! Love this QB!! Reporter is an A$$ clown lol. GOOOOO CHARGERS!!!
Hope you're alright Herbert, after all those hits, I know you can't wait for that bye.💯
It was most definitely a late hit and they just let it slide, the refs literally have some kind of hate towards the chargers, it's honestly wack, but BTFU.⚡💙
love you justin
This guy is obviously worth his contract!
