Rich Eisen on How Far Patrick Mahomes & the Chiefs Can Go in the AFC | The Rich Eisen Show
It’s no longer a question as to whether the Kansas City Chiefs have turned a corner in this 2025 season that they started off 0 and2 in. Um it’s just a question of how far they’re going to go. And the reason why that is is they’re fully constituted. Rasheed Rice is back. He’s fully integrated into this offense. Kareem Hunt is coming on the field as a running back when Pacheco needs a a break or the uh Chiefs are inside the 10 and they need a battering ram and he scores twice last night. And Momes even when you get him off the spot is making the plays even when you pick him off twice in a row to start the game. First time that’s ever happened to Patrick Mahomes as a professional. First two drives of the game interception on both. He’s only been picked off on consecutive drives in the same game five times in in his entire career and that includes the playoffs. Even when you do that like the Washington Commanders, you’re losing by 21. Obviously being an arrowhead helps, but Travis Kelce is looking like the Kelsey that we we know. Um even when he is sometimes not catching the passes that Mahomes is sending his way. six catches for 99 yards and a touchdown. His 100th career touchdown. Congratulations to Kelsey on that milestone. And his 83rd career um uh scoring touchdown ties Priest Holmes for the most in Chiefs history as he also became the fifth tight end in NFL history with 80 or more career receiving touchdowns. Congratulations to him on all that. is Mahomes joins Pton Manning is the only players with 40,000 pass yards in his first nine seasons, including the playoffs. And he tied Dan Marino for the most games with three or more passing touchdowns in a player’s first nine seasons. But that’s, you know, the larger picture and what we’ll be talking about when both of those guys go into Canton, Ohio’s first ballot hall of famers when they get the chance. Um, but it’s just this year what we’re seeing. What we’re seeing is a defense that can get you off the field and be opportunistic. And we’re seeing an offense that’s just on tilt. Mahomes is 100% I mean in terms of quarterbacks from start to finish this season uh in the mix for offensive player of the year because Jonathan Taylor is the MVP, right? Yeah. It’s now a race for offensive player of the year. I think we’re gonna we’re gonna go with it at this point in time until further notice. Um, but you know, they’re not even in first place in their own division. That’s a lot to say. Um, because the way that they started and the Broncos have caught fire. They’re a game behind the Broncos. They’re in third place because their five-3 record um isn’t as good as the Chargers because the Chargers have already beaten the Chiefs. That’s the way the season began. Uh, and then you know the rubber begins to meet the road now for Kansas City. They’re at Buffalo. Always an epic game. The Bills just came off of a 40point domination. They’ve scored 40 points in a dominating performance against Carolina. So, they’re feeling really good about themselves and they always feel good about themselves when they play Kansas City in the regular season. Chiefs get a buy. Then they’re at Denver and home for Indianapolis before they visit Dallas on Thanksgiving. and a Houston home date before they see the Chargers again. So, what I’m saying right now is corner turned. Check that box. How far are they going to go? The next six weeks will decide whether they can actually host games in Arrowhead or not. And if they go on the road in the playoffs, can they do what they did a couple years ago, which is go on the road in the playoffs? Doesn’t matter. they make the Super Bowl and win it anyway cuz they certainly have those horses. They certainly have them. I’m not telling any tales out of school on that. No sir. And right now if the if the playoffs began now, the Chiefs would be the seven seed going to New England. And I profer to say that’s probably not the first home playoff test you’d want Drake May to have. I don’t think that’s who they want to see. Uh that would be who who the the Chiefs are talking about. They want they want to see. But I mean, you take a look at everyone else. the the Chiefs over the last month have played better football than the Chargers, the Bills, the Steelers. I don’t think this is the order. I know on overreaction Monday, I said, “Look, the seven teams in the NFC, that’s lock. I don’t think these are the seven that are going to be in the AFC.” Well, and uh the only push back I would give on that is I think the Patriots, you you you do make it. Uh I think the Chargers, Bills, Chiefs, Broncos, and Colts make it. I just don’t know what the Steelers are. Agree. That’s the one I would say. And the one that’s not even on the screen is sniffing it, as we call it here on the Rich Eisen Show. It’s not in the hunt, you’re sniffing it. And the it is the playoffs, just so everyone understands, we’re kid-friendly show. Absolutely. Um the uh the Ravens at two and five are the team that I would peg as the one to run down the Steelers who have the Colts in their house this weekend. They’re going to have to go on a heck of a run though. And they will. I don’t also don’t think the Chiefs will be the seventh seed. I think the Chiefs can win the division. And if they beat the the Colts in a couple of weeks, have a shot at the one seat again. That’s how well they’re playing. I mean, Rasheed Rice is just beginning to scratch the surface. And you’re wondering about how you could still work work in Juju Smith Schuster, check that box. Kareem Hunt, check that box. They were all doing work last night. Hollywood Brown, Xavier Worthy, look out. Look out, guys. I I picked the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl. So, I mean, so did I against the Lions, by the way. That’s pretty much it then. Like I already said it, so I mean my pick’s looking pretty good too, which is Green Bay. Green Bay. And I had to show against the Who did you have in the AFC? The Ravens. The Ravens. I’m not counting them. I think they’re still, you know, it’s like they’re hanging out behind. They’re at the end of the track, but they’re going to make some moves like Lightning McQueen and get themselves Lightning McQueen. Again, with the Baltimore Ravens, they’re in a big predicament. When you’re two and five, I have the stats here. When you are two and five, do I have that here? Yeah, when you’re Well, I don’t have that here, but when you’re two and No, I do have it. When you’re two and five, since 1990, 6.3% of the teams that were two and five made it. 11 out of 174. When you’re 3 and five, that pops up to 10.4% if they beat the um if they beat the Miami Dolphins. And then I do not have four and five here, but we will endeavor from our friends at NFL Network Research shortly on that front. So, I’ll probably have that stat for you tomorrow. So, it’s improving with each passing week. Certainly, if you win the division, then you have a home date. And if you’re the four seed, which you probably are going to be like having the worst winning record maybe out of all the division winners. Certainly, if they got the Colts and the Patriots/ Bills, and then you’ve got the AFC West, you’ll be the four seed taking on the loser of say, if you will, second place team in in the AFC East, you might have the Bills coming in or the West. You might have the Chargers or the Chiefs or or the Broncos coming in, right? The Ravens playing as well as they have to to win the division. Don’t count them out. And I know I went higher register on that. A little bit. Just winning last week changes a lot of things. Like if they lose that game, are they trading Derrick Henry? Are they sitting Lamar for an extended period of time? That really changed their season. Hey, you made it all the way to the end. Thanks for that. It’s so cute that Brockman thinks KC is worried about the Pats 😂
kc has beaten only 1 team with a now winning record (lions) and lost to 3. they have won 4 of 5 from teams with now losing record. bit early too anoint, don't ya' think?
This team has had a rough start to the season but they also have the championship mentality.
Chiefs have played DIVISION WINNERS every week… Other than the lonely raiders…HAHAHAHAAA… What other major teams are playing scrubs. Quit pretending… the Chiefs are far better than any other team at home OR on the road! Wake up and smell the coffee 😂😂🤣🤣
Poor Brockman. Going to watch his beloved Patriot records slip away year after year. Difference between Patriots and Chiefs is Patriots caught cheating twice. Bill is looking more overated each loss at North Carolina. Andy has the most wins for 2 separate franchises. Bellichecks record without Brady is laughable.
Lmao. BROCKMAN did I hear you say we don't want to see who???? Lmao keep voting democrat
Brockman's so cutsie. KC is so afraid of Mike Vrabels' first year in New England – they'd prefer to play anyone else! NE hasn't done squat since the GOAT left for greener pastures in Tampa Bay. Nothing has changed, NE is beating up on poor competition. I wouldn't guess that NE is shaking in their booties either. But Brockman is at this point….comedy relief on this program.
As a Pats fan I want all the smoke with the Chiefs. Nothing would be better than the Pats being the team to stop the Chiefs from reaching 8 straight conference championships.
Kelce has 102 Touchdowns. 100 Receiving and 2 rushing. Not sure why people don't include playoffs when those games matter the most.
The Patriots LITERALLY have the easiest schedule in the last 20 years of the NFL. Laughable how easy it is…the Chiefs would LOVE to goto Pats for game 1 of playoffs
5:50 Rich’s unwavering faith in the Chiefs is so beautiful 🥹
oH nO nOt ThE pAtRiOtS!
Too much premature EJAC on CHIEFS after beating a very poor washington team, lets see how they do in Buffalo on Sundat and then the Broncos and Colts. They got alot of work ahead of them.
Big Baby Boston Brockman strikes back, go Chiefs!
The younger Kelce would have amassed 100 yards
The Chiefs would be absolutely thrilled to face the Patriots in the playoffs
People overlook this but a big part of my Chiefs legendary run is SPAGS‼️ the things he’s been able to do to MVP QBs, ALL TIME GREATS😭😭😭😭 soooo what do you thing he will do to the likes of Daniel Jones, and Drake Maye in big spot like the playoffs💀 stop it 🏹
They can win at home and on the road.
So if they are in the playoff picture
No one is stopping them.
They may lose a few games in the regular season but in the playoffs its a different animal.
People are going to forget all about the colts after the chiefs whomp them.
The chiefs are excellent at limiting star RBs
Derrick Henry, Saquon, doesn’t matter. Jonathan Taylor isn’t going to have a monster game.
And when he doesn’t Daniel Jones is going to look extremely different
Drake Maye is Josh Allen 2.0. Chiefs are 4-0 against that kind of QB in the playoffs. Chiefs not worried about that kind of QB
The regular season is practice for the Chiefs. It's data collection to determine what works and what doesn't and then Andy unleashes the full potential of the team in the playoffs. The Chiefs will beat the brakes off of the Pats in the playoffs if given the opportunity. The guy who has been to 5 super bowls isn't afraid of a team that hasn't been to the playoffs since 2019.
The Chiefs are at a moment in time when nearly all of their players are healthy. But this is the NFL. It is a violent game. These guys are as big as refrigerators colliding at high speed. People will get injured. If it were Mahommes, that would be the end of the Chiefs for 2025. They are awesome now because they have an unbelievable set of skill players plus good to great o-line and a great defense and great coaching. It’s hard to keep all of those planets in alignment, but if they do, and for as long as they do they’ll continue to be awesome – but more than likely key people will end up getting hurt. That’s the unfortunate nature of the game.
Mahomes will win his 4th Super Bowl. That far.
what a boring segment. i mean cmon we all know they are always a threat
This was against an injury ridden Commanders team, sorry if I’m not bought in😂
1:18 Kelce has 100 career TDs and only 83 of them were "scoring TDs"? Man the NFL is weird…Oh Playoffs/regular season vs regular season…not explained well by the host
There is absolutely no one in the AFC I believe the chiefs are even paying any mind to. All the regular season is to them is practice for the afc championship game.
Chiefs were missing both starting OTs against Washington. Those are 2 huge pieces of the offense. Chiefs are dangerous…only way they lose is by beating themselves.
83rd career "scoring" touchdowns. Aren't all touchdowns "scoring" touchdowns?
Funny how they were washed and the dynasty was over, now they are once again the team to go through to get to the SB.
Said it last year, Kelce hasn't changed much, just teams sussed him out, and we didn't have enough other threats to make him viable. Now that we have other threats, there are going to be times when he slips through the cracks as defenses scramble to defend those guys, and when it gets passed to him, he's still able and ready.
Brockman.. I’m not saying you’re wrong, but can you please expand on your take that the Chiefs wouldn’t want to play the Pats in the playoffs. Thanks.
With the Chiefs offense fully back I expect them to win their devision. I’m very skeptical of both the Broncos and the Chargers who have a history of fading in the back half of the season when they start strong while KC does the opposite.
Everyone is on the Chiefs bandwagon. If they lose to the Bills, these same people will say the Chiefs will miss the playoffs😆😆
Chiefs fear no one
Ravens aren't doing anything. Lamar wasn't carried by a top 3 defense and running game so he throws a temper tantrum and literally quits and lies about being injured. He will continue to lie about injury as they lose and quit again by December.
Chiefs can totally win the SB with how their offense and defense are playing rn
The 2-5 stat for teams making the playoffs is insignificant. Most of those teams were just bad. Adjust for how many were playoff teams the year before and you might find a more telling %. BAL also lost their MVP QB for a stretch. Context matters.
Ravens haven't looked good at all.
And Mike Pennel back!💪💪😤😤😤😤
That home game against Colts going to epic, Arrowhead might break a sound record that night!!!!
Chiefs beat Allen and Lamar on the road in the playoffs. They can win in Indianapolis, New England.
Yes, the Chiefs are looking better, improving every week. But don’t let the last to wins go to your heads. The next two games are the real test.
The dynastic run continues
I used to hate Brockman, but now I just find him and his facial expressions funny as hell
As long as roger goodell's around , kansas city's gonna do just fine
