This is INSANE… Major Padres Updates | Padres News

This is insane. Major Padre updates and rumors coming out recently. Are they true or are they just clickbait? And how could they affect the team? Let’s talk about it. Hi, welcome back to another episode of Padres’s Digest with your host Andrew. Today, like I said, a lot of rumors, a lot of updates I got to give. So, we’ll try to make this video not super super super long, but we got a lot to talk about today. So, let’s start with some 100% great news. San Diego has officially won their first trophy. Just not in baseball, but kind of. First important news from the GM meetings here in Vegas. The Padres’s won the inaugural front office pickle ball tournament last night. They beat the Dodgers to take home the hardware. Hang the banner. We’ve made it. Everything has been achieved. The dreams have been achieved. Everything. Also, please apply if you’d like. We finally won something and we finally beat the Dodgers. Just give us give your guys a little round of applause. Pat yourself on the back. We finally done it. Hang the banner. Okay. I’m sorry. Andrew, report the real news. This is why no one watches you. I’m sorry. Continuing more news. This is something we kind of already covered, but uh Tatia has been officially posted. And according to this article, which was in Japanese, so you know it’s legit. Uh moving to acquired Padres’s are moving to acquire Tatia Imi. Padres’s fully prepared to acquire GM explains. I have the quote from the article. Uh this is from Akahhiro. I’m so sorry. Weno Yuno, something like that. Uh GM Prowler visited Japan this season to observe Imi’s pitching. He has a great arm, great athleticism, and can maintain his velocity. His control is also improving. His continued growth demonstrates his diligence and adapt adaptability. He said this off seasonason King and Cece became free agents and Darish will miss the entire season due to surgery. The Padres starting pitching is a key area for improvement. The Sabu Lions announced on the 9th 10th in Japan time that they would they would approve Amay’s use of the positive of the posting system. I can’t read. Sorry. He also explained that Darvish has been providing advice on Japanese players. Not only is Darvish a great pitcher, he’s also a great scout. We always ask for his opinion and we’ll continue to use his insight this off season, he said. And there’s a picture that came out. I don’t have the picture because I just remembered it, but uh there’s a picture of Darvis reaching out to Emi. Uh so hopefully that’s a good thing. To be honest, last time that happened, uh we saw Roi Suzaki go to the Dodgers. So he is hoping that that won’t happen again. To be honest, the Dodgers don’t need more starting pitching. So, I think we’ll have a better chance with this pitcher than we did last year, but that’s still exciting, right? I already made a video talking about him so couple days ago, so feel free to watch that. Moving on, this is from uh a smaller but also big thing. Padres’s are expected to give Ruben Yea the additional title of associate manager per Kevin ac. What does that mean exactly? I don’t know. But again, here is that article. San Diego Padres’s Allstar. No, not that one. Uh this one. Padres’s are expected to give pitching coach Ruben Yebla the additional title of associate manager. Sources said Tuesday it is not known exactly what Nebla’s expanded duties will entail, but the Padres’s want to lean on his broader understanding of the game and strategy beyond the pitching side. Honestly, he’s the guy I’m going to rely on the most, his experience, Stamon said of Neba on Monday at his introductory news conference. I think he’s one of the best coaches in our entire sport, not just pitching coaches, but coaches overall. and we’re going to put a lot of we’re going to put a lot on his plate. Nibbla’s new title and responsibilities will mean an expanded role for bullpen coach Ben Fritz, who recently received a two-year contract extension. So, what does that exactly mean? I don’t know. It kind of sounds like they want him to be like the bench coach. Uh, and they’re going to make Ben Fritz more of a pitching coach. Probably not to that full extent, but I think Nebla’s going to have more responsibilities and I think so will Ben Fritz. So my imagining of the situation is that like say Stammon gets ejected that would mean YBA’s next on like the next manager to come in. So I don’t know. I just thought it was important to share. Moving on, we have Bob Nightingale, everyone’s least favorite reporter next to Ken Rosenthal because screw Ken Rosenthal. 10 biggest MLB hot stove questions from top free agents to latest trade rumor as GM meetings begin in Vegas. This one is going to probably piss you off or make you really excited. I don’t know, but it’s pretty not great, right? San Diego Padres’s all-star right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. They certainly don’t want to trade him and still may not listen to still may not listen now. But with all of their bloated and backloaded contracts, someone is going to eventually have to depart. And no one making big money has more trade value than Tatis, whose 14-year, $340 million contract suddenly looks rather reasonable. This is from Bob Nightingale. There is absolutely no chance in any scenario or any multiverse that we are trading Tatis Jr. at least this offseason. Maybe in the future maybe, but at this particular offseason that we are in, there is literally zero chance we are trading Tatis. And I low-key said that a couple years ago about Sodto, but like I mean it way more now than for Tatis. Whether you like Tatis or not, whether you think has an attitude problem or you can’t get over the steroids thing or whatever, right? We’re not trading him. He’s a good player. We’re not trading him. And I can have some images to back that up. Uh Tatis 42nd in AAV. AAV like annual contract value. Has a big contract. Is laughable. Six war last season. 26-year-old. This is why people only listen to Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We like DSG, but we’re not going to toot your horn right now. Uh so Tat Jr. contract breakdown. The biggest point that you’re going to see, he has a full no trade clause from now till the end of 2028. So we literally cannot trade him unless he waves that. Why would he wave that? I don’t know. So that’s stupid. So right before the salary jump, the conversation to trade him will grow with each and every passing season. So that means he will make 20 million, which honestly isn’t that much. That’s 2 million less than a qualifying offer is. So, he’s still relatively for the kind of player we’re getting a good contract for right now. When he starts making 36 in 2034, honestly, it probably still will be a good contract cuz contracts are probably only going to go up every single year in annual uh value. So, he’s actually has a pretty good contract in all all things considered, but we can’t trade him until after 2028. And I still don’t think we should trade him. He’s like what 26 27 years old. So, if you think trading him is a good idea, let me know in the comments section. you’re wrong, but let me know in the comments section. Uh, but then moving on to more news, notes from the GM meetings, Pyrus, blah blah blah blah blah. But the one that’s interesting, Padres’s interested in retaining Luis Arise. Interesting, right? If you saw the me and Christian uh duo video, we both agreed that I wouldn’t mind bringing back Arise, but it has to be for less than 10 million or a good price, right? So, obviously, we have some opinions and reactions from that. Padres’s desperately need power production from first base DH. Signing Arise is doing the opposite of actually fixing your issue. Padres’s have interest in retaining free agent Lorise. Luis is a good guy. I agree with that. But for all the hype, he is league average as his OPS plus is at 103, 100 being average. So he is 3% better than the average uh player in OPS+, which is on base plus slugging. Oh, and he doesn’t run or field well. we can do much better and I agree with that. That being said, ops isn’t really the best stat for Arise. I know we’re arguing about uh getting more slug at first base, but when you have a player who his whole like weapon like his whole like thing is getting uh contact cuz his uh I forgot to speak, my bad. His on base percentage is always tied to his average because he doesn’t walk that much. He doesn’t slug that much. So, his on base is always going to be tied to his average. So with something like Luis Arise, the thing that’s most important stat-wise will always be his average and his on on base percentage. Slugging we know he doesn’t have. But yeah, so that’s why OPS isn’t the best stat to use for this, but OPS is a very important stat in all of baseball. So there’s like two sides to that argument. But yeah, Lewis analysis, Luis Arise free agent case is so interesting. All-time low batting average 292, which again is still really good, but when your entire weapon is your contact hitting, 292 is not great when that’s all you offer, if that makes sense. Alltime low bat bip, which is like batting independent of like luck. So, it’s a luck based thing. Not really luck based thing. Hold on, let me remember the exact wordage of it. Okay, my bad. I just want to make sure I’m clear. Batting average on balls in play. So, it’s not it doesn’t include like strikeouts, walks, uh home runs, only balls that are hit into play. So, the higher it is, that also means probably that you’re more lucky. But right now, his all-time low at bat pip at 289 is not good, right? Slowest bat speed in baseball, 3.1% strikeout rate, which is actually higher than what it I think it was higher than what it normally is. Obviously 3% of the time shreking out is unheard of in today’s baseball society, but still it is higher than what it used to be. Chase is up to 34.1%. So he’s chasing more. Uh and then more stuff that I don’t really want to get into, but very poor defender. I don’t think he’s a poor def. I don’t think he’s a very poor defender. I don’t think he’s great, but I wouldn’t call him very poor. Regressed or bad luck. Notably, a 32.8% scent percentage is a career low. What is scent percentage? I forgot. Give me a sec. Okay, I I can’t find anything on it, so it might be a typo. I don’t know. But if you know what it is, feel free to yell at me. And by yell at me, I mean tell me very nicely. But let’s recap what’s going on, right? So, we’re good at pickle ball. Uh we’re we’re pushing to acquire imi. Uh Bob Nightingale is an idiot. We’re not trading Todd Teis. And we want to get Luis Arise back. Like I said in the video, me and Christian agree on if it’s less than 10 million, it’s a good enough contract. Sure, come back. but it doesn’t fix our overall problem that we need slug. But yeah, let me know how you guys feel about all of that. I know it’s a lot of uh stuff. I also had to cut out a picture. Maybe I can just show you guys. Let me add a graphic real quick. Okay, my bad. I ran out of picture space, but let me just I made a little graphic real quick. But if you were curious, the manager of the year for the NL was announced and you can see all the votes at the bottom. Mike Schill third with one point. Do you guys think he should have got more points? Let me know. But there’s a lot of news today. Let me know exactly what you think about everything if you want. I am curious to know your guys’ opinions. And yeah, have a fantastic rest of your day. Please subscribe and go Padres’s. Goodbye. Have fun. I lost my mouse. There it is. Goodbye.
