Off Cy Young win, Paul Skenes dismisses idea of leaving Pirates

  1. “Skenes remains under team control for the rest of the decade but found himself pushing back against a report that he has told teammates he is eager to move on via trade — with a particular focus on joining the New York Yankees.

“I don’t know where that came from,” Skenes told reporters Wednesday night. “The goal is to win, and the goal is to win in Pittsburgh.”

Skenes said he saw the report — in which an anonymous Pirates player is quoted as saying that the star right-hander is “hoping for a trade” before he can become a free agent in 2029 — but responded that he “didn’t think much about it.”

“The way that fans see us outside of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh is not supposed to win,” Skenes said. “There are 29 fan bases that expect us to lose. I want to be a part of the 26 guys that change that.”

  2. So if the Randy Miller reporting is true, who do we think is the rat? It’s probably Bednar and that’s why a NYY beat writer is able to get this type of quote

  3. Obviously he’s going to say the right things. Skenes has the rest of the decade in Pittsburgh at a minimum. History shows Nutting will not break the bank to extend superstars.

  4. They better pay this man long term. We have pieces to win. Get us 2 more bats that can hit consistently with some power. They won 71 games with the least runs in the league.

  5. Man, this guy should be the pirates version of Sidney Crosby, an absolute killer that only cares about championships, we should be doing everything we can to keep him here forever….I fucking hate this team

  6. lol what do people think he’s going to say? “Yeah I’m just tryna get the fuck outta this perennial losing uniform and get into some pinstripes or blues.”

  7. I must have missed the part where he said or even implied that he didn’t want to be traded

  8. Nutting should be embarrassed that he has the best pitcher in the league, who pitched a full season with an ERA below 2, and he couldn’t give him an offense good enough to win more than 10 games.

  9. So it was IKF being bitter at game 7 loss or someone like Pham trying to stay relevant, right?

  10. Him leaving town is a foregone conclusion. Why would he say anything out of order knowing he’s going to get the biggest pitcher contract in MLB history in 4 years?
