Uh Carter, what’s on your TV today? What’s going on there? I don’t know. It’s like a floral backdrop. I’ve been honestly I’ve been in a pickle with this TV tie. It’s one of these Samsung frames and it like you can kind of put art. I have no idea what I’m doing. I got to get someone in here to help me out with what I’m doing because I am slow to the draw right now. But we’re working on it. Okay. But it’s a floral. It’s a festive thing, right? We’re It’s a feel-good show, Ty. Let’s just go with it. Sure. Sure. Uh we got a lot to get to today on the show, but wanted to start things off on a bit of a solemn note. Uh the passing of Larry Brooks this morning. Very sad. And obviously a giant in the hockey media community. Covered the game with just the authent authenticity and just an unmatched passion. Think about all those scrums that have gone viral over the years between him and John Tordella and others. So condolences to everyone who knew Larry, had a chance to work with Larry. And listen, I didn’t know him, but if you read one thing today, go read Molly Walker’s tribute in the New York Post. It was beautifully done by Molly, who had just a fantastic relationship with Larry. So again, condolences to everyone who knew Larry, who worked with Larry, his family, and his friends. And I would just say go read that Molly Walker tribute. It was really well done. Um, but yeah, rest in peace to to Larry Brooks of the New York Post. Uh, let’s get into some other news huts from today. Yeah, good news for Shane Pinto as he wakes up this morning and has himself a nice big extension. The Ottawa senators and the forward agreeing to terms on a 4-year deal that comes with a $7.5 million AAV. And hey, not a bad birthday present for Shane Pinto either, who uh who turns 25 today as well. You get $30 million guaranteed on your birthday. That’s good living. Yeah, you know, honestly, this is a good deal, you know, and and I look at him and, you know, it’s kind of like that new age almost bridge deal for him, right? Taking a little less term probably than he could have got at four years, 30 million. Now, it’s like he set himself up well, if he plays well in these next this season and the next four years on that deal cuz when he becomes a UFA at 29, like there’s a lot of money to be made out there in the way that the cap is transitioning. And he came out of the shoot hot. He had seven goals in his first six games. He’s kind of cooled off in that sense, but this is a good one. A guy that’s, you know, had some injuries. He’s missed some time. Obviously, the suspension on top of that, but he was a big contributor for this Ottawa Senators team last year for that playoff run. So, this is a good signing. You know, again, we were talking about it earlier about him and Dylan Cousins deals coming up at the same time and those are two of your centermen. You can kind of maybe see that forecasting out into the future. I think maybe a strategic move in Ottawa where maybe we’ll see who is getting the job done and maybe one of those piece becomes a trade piece, you know, before their contracts expires. But I think this is a good contract for the Ottawa Centers who are seem to be trending in the right d direction. Even though they’re not really generating a lot of offense, they seem to be winning games or at least getting points. Yeah, again, things have been going pretty well for Ottawa this year. Pinto started the year on fire. Eight goals in his first nine games. He’s cooled off a little bit in the goal scoring department, but part of the reason I think he’s such a good fit there on a team with I know Brady Kachchuck’s not in the lineup right now, but Kachchuck, Stouts, L Cousins, you rattled off some of the names from that core. Drake Bath, like Pinto’s a guy with a really good defensive conscience and he’s someone you can trust with really heavy matchups. And I think again when you’re a young team who has a lot of of young faces and you’re looking for offense from all of them, having one guy who can excel on the defensive side of the puck, who you can start in the Dzone, who can penalty kill a little bit, who you can trust with really tough matchups, it frees up the other guys a little bit, too. So, there’s a ripple effect to having a guy like Shane Pinto in your lineup. And you mentioned the future of this Senators team. You’re going to head into next summer with the bulk of your core locked up. 10 forwards, five defenseman, Linus Almark still under contract. and you still have $22 million to spend. Like for a team that’s in ad mode who’s trying to take that next step, just keep locking these guys up. That’s really, really smart business by the sends. And again, they can get ultra aggressive if they wanted to in the next few months or in the next year. Yeah. And I think when you look at right here, what Pat has up here, Pedia, what’s important to me is that when you look at next season, when you’re really going to say this team is going to be a threat, you know, who are their UFAs? You look at David Piron, he’s making four million at 37. He’s an odd guy out. You can replace that. Claude Jaru is the tricky one, right? He’s 37. You can still go spend that money. He’s only making two million bucks. Larzeller, these are older veteran players. Nick’s Cousins, you know, he’s on a league minimum deal. So, it looks very well in my opinion as you look at this team. And then Drake Bathson would be the next big ticket item up. And then the next year after that is Kachchuck. So, you look at next year, they don’t have a guy in double digits, which is pretty impressive build of a team that has a lot of potential and a star starting goalie. So, you know, on the back end, you have Shabbat, you have Sanderson locked up for a little bit here. Obviously, I I just think this is going in the right direction. Then you can kind of navigate where you’re at goalending wise. I think that’s going to be the tricky piece. Obviously, Lenus Mmark hasn’t performed as of yet. Levy Marilign and where’s his number lie. You almost you might have two goalies under 10, too. Like, he might take 1.5, you know, two or three years just to be in there. This is going to be a dangerous team. And I think when it comes to free agency and when it comes to shopping and trying to make this team over the top, they’re set up for a really good run here. Ty. Yeah, Steve Stails, like I said, can get really aggressive in the next couple of years. And you look at that division and the way things are kind of trending for I mean, you can just kind of go across the board and say everyone in that division like, okay, Montreal is up. Ottawa is in a position where they can be up. What’s what’s it like with Toronto? Is Florida going to be around for one year, two years, three years? You kind of start to wse when you say three years. Even Tampa Bay, how many more years does Tampa Bay have as a true authentic Stanley Cup contender? Like the fact that Ottawa has all these guys locked up for term and they’ve staggered a bunch of when they end too, right? Like Stutza’s 2031, Kachchuck’s 2029, Cousins 2030, Pinto’s also 2030, but Sanderson’s until 2032. Like they should never get to a point where they’re in an off season where they can’t continue to add with the way the cap’s moving. So you consider where that conference and where that division’s kind of going. Consider how well they’ve staggered everything. Like I don’t know, are the sends a team and they should be a team that can build themselves into a legitimate Stanley Cup contender in the next 18 to 24 months here. Yeah, I agree. And again, there is that the Atlantic just feels flipped on its side right now, right? The way things are going, where they’re at, you have Boston ahead of you, you have Montreal, it seems attainable at this point. Again, there’s a lot of teams stuck in the mud. I think the dangerous team for me would be Tampa Bay. I think they can start rattling off wins because they have the offense. I don’t know where it’s going to come in a regular season where you need to try to create with the way Florida and Toronto have been playing. But for the Sens teams, you know, they have two more games at home here. They play the Bruins and then they play LA and then it’s a sevengame road trip. They went through the same thing last year, right? They had that giant road trip before the World Juniors. There’s a lot of pressure on this team. So, this is kind of make or break for them in my opinion before December. I think it ends December 2nd, then they’re back home on the 4th of December. This is going to be a huge road trip for the Ottawa Senators who need to find a way to scrape together some wins on the road. Let’s go from the east out to the west. And I mean, you can almost view this as an entire league question as well, but we’re going to play a little pick them. It’s pretty crazy to look at the league standings. There are only five teams in the whole NHL who have a points percentage below 500. It’s crazy the the parody that exists right now. And then you kind of have a mush, you know, Vancouver, St. Louis, Buffalo, they’re all in that 440 470 range. And then it hits a cliff. Nashville 389. The Flames only have four wins through 18 games. They have a 278 points percentage. It is ugly in both of these Western markets. So your pick them question is this hots. Which team should sell the hardest and maybe the quickest this season. You know what? For me, it’s a Calgary Flames. The PRs are just I I get it. But the PRS made their bed, right? Like they went to that free agency. They tried to shop. We we’ve been over I think we’ve beat that horse so many times. every time I turn on any sort of social media that the pres are the one to talk about. But the Flames just feel like realistically for me sell off pieces that you don’t need. You have some good young players there. You have a great young upand cominging starting goalie and then you have a chance in a draft to get a player like Gavin McKenna or someone that can really change this organization. You have a new arena being built. There’s just like so many things trending for them. I do believe it would be a waste if all of a sudden the Flames just rattle off a bunch of wins and then they get themselves in the playoff pitcher and then they’re they’re four points outside of a wildcard spot at the end of the season and you’re sitting there going again why did we do that? Why didn’t we beef up a little bit and make this team better where the cap is going and the money they have spent. So for me it’s a Calgary Flames. I think that they are at a point in their where they’re at in their rebuild. They need to make some changes here. Yeah, I’m with you. So, the reason I was going with Calgary over Nashville, even though you’re right, a lot of people seem to be pointing at Nashville and they’re the team that’s in the headlines a lot more for their struggles than maybe Calgary is, but just with the players that they reportedly could be making available. Like, I look at Nazam Cadri, three more years, 7 million bucks. A lot of talk about a guy like that this year. And I think there’s a chance his value is at its highest at this trade deadline. If there’s, like I just said, there’s only five teams below 500 when it comes to points percentage in the NHL. That means there’s not a lot of true sellers. That means if you have a guy like Kadri who has some term and you’re willing to trade them in season, Anaheim, Montreal, all these kind of young upand cominging teams who maybe want to add and kind of throw a little carrot to the team to their groups right now while also getting a piece that can help them down the line when they look to take a step forward in the next few years. Like those teams should be willing to give you a lot for an Azam Kadri. And they might be willing to give you a lot like right now. You might not have to wait till the deadline for a market to develop for him. Then the other name is obviously Raasmus Anderson pending UFA. You got to move him now. Where I think and and maybe Predators fans won’t like to hear this. I think there’s a chance that the Predators just get more for all of these guys that they’re looking to move out in the summer. They all have term. Think about Philip Forsber. Okay. I I guess a team like a Montreal or an Anaheim, one of the again the upandcomers, they would probably like to have Philip Forsber, but you would probably also have a whole lot of true Stanley Cup contenders lining up for that guy, giving you multiple highquality assets if you were willing to move him this summer. You just got to wait till the summer when those teams have cap space. I think about Sorrowos as well. Jonathan Marsheso is another name, 5.5 million. You could trade him at this deadline, maybe get a decent haul for them. you trade them on July 1st when teams have a bunch of cap space. All of a sudden the market expands. So I think for Nashville, you might just have to plug your nose and gut through this year. Maybe you trade an O’Reilly or a Bunting or something like that and get a couple of picks. But for Calgary, if I was Craig Conre, I’d be looking to make some moves right now. Yeah, I I agree with you too. Again, the the interesting one for me is the Soros one, right? Because of you look at the success right now Ascarov is having in San Jose. He’s been one of the hottest goalies his last four games. you know, if he gets moved off, it just looks like so much egg on your face and the fact that like why did you give him the deal? Why did you let him walk? So, there is a lot that goes on about saving face. And now that being said, we we had chat a little bit before we came on here. Like, do do some of these guys want to leave Nashville, too, right? There’s also like the fact of like, you know, it is Nashville. A lot of guys love it there. This is a destination city where guys want to play. They want to be part of that organization. So there is the fact of like there is the rebuild, but teams would be lining up to try to add a player like Philip Forsber. You’re not wrong there. This is a guy that still has a lot of game left. He can play it all. He can play a little bit of a phys physical edge in his game, too, which adapts to the playoff and he gets a lot of shots. He generates a lot of offense. So it will be interesting. But at the end of the day, if the Calgary Flames are sitting here and they haven’t done anything and they moved up the standings, I think it’s a waste of a season in my opinion. Yeah. Um, there was also an interesting rumor thrown out like the one name that aside from O’Reilly. So, two names I could see O’Reilly getting moved this year. And then there’s the Steven Stamco thing like you talked about. Do guys want to stick in Nashville? Do they want to go somewhere else? There have been some reports that Stamos wouldn’t mind going somewhere else to finish off his career. And Demetri Filipovic on what chaos threw out the Chicago Blackhawks as a potential landing spot for him. And it was like a light bulb in my head moment where I’m like, man, that makes so much sense. First off, $53 million in projected cap space for the Blackhawks this off seasonason. Even if you were to give Baddard 10, okay, you still have 43 million. Like, go get a guy like Stamco who even if he and he definitely isn’t the same player he was before. What kind of lift does that give a young locker room in Chicago and they see that guy walk through the door? It’s a couple more years. You don’t need the cap space. I think it gives them like an emotional boost. Gives them a veteran leader and it’s a guy who, hey, just throw him on your power play. Let him score you 20 goals. Is he overpaid? Yes. Do you need the money? No. So do it. So my only concern there I guess I I guess I have two angles on that, right? Is like you add Stamco like I don’t know if he necessarily makes your team better, right? Because but there is value I think in having a player like Steven Stamos around your guys. He’s a righty, right? And he’s gonna can teach Baddard like where does he play on the power play? He can be there as like a veteran leadership, right? So I think that is important. It’s just a matter of how much you’re going to sacrifice to get him, right? I don’t know if he necessarily at his foot speed and where he’s at in the way that Chicago plays helps them immensely, but there is so much value in having veteran leadership around these guys. This is a guy that’s won. He’s done it all. This is a great guy for Baddard to be around. Nazar to understand day-to-day of the NHL, the power play thinking, trying to grow your game. So, there is a lot of value that Steven Stamos wins. So, I don’t know if it pushes the Hawks over the top by any means. They’re trending in the right direction, but I think the value of experience that he would bring to a team like that is immense. Exactly. Uh all right, we’re going to get to Dave Pñota here in a couple of minutes, but first, uh this week we’re kind of zeroing in on some Olympic rosters. Talk Canada, talk USA yesterday. Uh today, let’s talk a little bit about team Sweden here. They’re kind of the opposite of Canada where, you know, Canada’s got all these tough decisions to make with the forward group and then you look at the blue line and it’s like and you look at the goalending and you’re like, “Oh boy, what are they going to do?” But Sweden’s the reverse. You look at the goalending, they look solid. You look at that blue line, like I’m looking at the group, it doesn’t even matter what decisions they make. Dene, Carlson, Headman, you want to bring Rasmus Anderson, Philip Broberg. Here’s the projection from Matt Lark. And like they’re so good from the from the blue paint on out. Huts. The big questions are just in the forward group. Yeah, it is. Again, this is a good problem for Team Sweden to have, right? When you look at their forwards and what they’re going to do, there’s going to be some pieces that, you know, some tough decisions for them to make in that bottom six. But this team is an absolute threat when you look at their back end. I think they’re the most even looking back on the Four Nations Cup, how good they were. For me, it’s their goalending. For me, it’s going to be the question mark of who is the guy when the puck drops at the Olympics because nobody is really having a good season. Right now, Marstrom and Allark have identical 870 save percentages in the NHL, which aren’t great. Marsh, we saw Mark make a great pass last night to win it in overtime. But again, this is a short tournament. These are the guys with the most experience. And then you have Philip Gustofson who is there who could be your number three. Eerson was there last year because Marshmall was hurt for the Four Nations Cup. So with this back end I I just like the maturity in the fact that you have Marshmall who’s played over 500 games, Lenus who’s now over 300. There’s so much experience if you they can insulate that and protect them. This becomes a very very dangerous team. As for up front, there’s going to be a lot harder decisions on where that ice times gets allocated and who is a differencemaker. And I think NHL success this year is going to make a big impact on this hockey team. Ty. Yeah, I I agree with you on that. And you see the projection here like Person and Zabanad going into the Four Nations face off. Their center depth was a question, but the one thing that’s changed since last February is the emergence of Leo Carlson. And hey, no pressure, a 20-year-old kid going into his obviously his first Olympics, but like man, this guy’s looking like a legit number one center. And I again a lot of pressure to ask of him to be like, “Hey, go toe-to-toe with McDavid and and all these other guys and Matthews and Eel. It’s your job to shut them down or to go toe-to-toe with them, try to outproduce them even.” But he’s the highest scoring Swedish forward in the NHL this year. If he’s an actual 1C, you start to look at that center depth on Sweden and start to go, “Okay, yeah, I can get behind Zabinad at two and maybe Eric Sinek in the three spot in like a hyper defensive role.” Like Carlson changes the complexion of that forward group for Sweden quite a bit. It does. It does a lot. And again, I again I feel like he is a complete player too, right? Like we we all want the flash, we want the speed, we want it all, but this is a guy that at his age plays a more well-rounded game than most guys his age. So he he will fit in. It’s just now you start to think about apples and apples of like you’re trying to match against, you know, where does he match up? But again, I still think teams are going to error on best available players and have them adapt to the role that they need to play. So with his skill set, I think he fits in well. And again, you’re building, you’re trying to build something for the future, too. There’s always that growth curve of where you want these players to be in the next four years. And as they go and right now, I think Leo Carlson has been good enough this season to be on this. I don’t know if he ends up being the 1C tie and having that unbelievable matchup. But if you can get him in like a two or three slot, I think he’s a little bit more protected. But granted, there’s going to be no easy nights in the Olympics. That’s for sure. No, not at all. Uh let’s get to our big segment for the day in David Pota. It’s brought to you by Uber Eats, enabling fans to maximize their fandom all season long with exclusive game day deals on the Uber Eats app. From game day eats to paper plates and napkins if you’re hosting to all the ingredients you need to make your go-to game day dip before, during, and after the game, Uber Eats is assisting every fan’s hockey experience all season long. Always a pleasure to be joined by Dave Penota from the fourth period. And let’s kick things off in Toronto. News about David Camp coming down the pipe. If I look in our YouTube chat, it’s one thing that people are asking about. The Leafs kind of clearly need to make a shakeup here, Dave. But what do you think they could do? Yeah. Well, it it’s tough right now cuz the injuries are now mounting. They’re piling up, you know, quite a bit. Austin Matthews isn’t playing tonight. Stlars is out um as well. And they’ve been they’ve been scrambling. like this is a team that’s trying to figure out a little bit of their um new identity this season and it just it just hasn’t clicked consistently by any stretch, you know, for for this group. So, what happens at that point? Well, Brad Living starts to look around a little bit more to see what his options are. Um and you know, it’s it’s going to be interesting to see how this kind of works out for him because he’s he’s looking for a top six guy, which we’ve known for a while. Um, this goes that goes back to the off seasonason and I think the realization that they need a legitimate puck mover from the blue line is starting to sink in a little bit more and I believe that’s something that he’s starting to look at as well. But again, you know, we mentioned this in in previous weeks, any big move the Leafs make or try to make is going to have to result in somebody leaving the team. like you’re gonna have to move out money, which might be why we’re starting to hear names like Max Doi again and even Brandon Carlo that I brought up earlier this week. Um, in addition to the Camps and the Robertsons and the Yarn Crooks and everybody that’s that’s, you know, their usual suspects that are out there, but it’s getting to the point now where they’ve got to be a little bit more creative in what they potentially do here. Um, and they’re starting to look at what options may be available. Yeah, understandable. Right. the pressure starting to mount in Toronto and some other pieces. You know, I listened to yesterday talk about Cam Talbot on the DFO show. Yeah. You know, is he a piece that gets I thought he was a piece that was going to get moved last year. I remember Peter Morazza getting moved to the wings and I thought for sure Cam Talbot’s getting moved out. It didn’t happen like you know where does he fit? He has that relationship in Edmonton. You know, obviously Calvin Pickard hasn’t been great this year. Where do we see Cam Talbot end up or does it something maybe plays out later in the year? I probably I mean unless there’s a there’s a season ending injury or or something of of relative significance in in you know that respects I think this is going to be a situation where teams are going to wait to see a how they’re doing and then b how are the wings doing and is there is there an opportunity for us to pounce on a on a veteran goalender who’s got that experience who’s been steady numbers aren’t aren’t horrible by any stretch in Detroit but he doesn’t have any no trade protection and with John Gibson there is this an avenue that that um Steve Eisermanman is is willing to take. We’re going to hear other names out of Detroit if they continue to hover. Um you know, if if they’re or or or less um we’re going to hear other names out there, but you know, Talbot’s an interesting one because of his contractual situation. UFA at the end of the season and again, no trade protection. No, no trade protection. Um just, you know, kind of makes him an easier candidate to to be moved. But for teams whether it’s Edmonton or another and obviously you mentioned the Oilers and there’s familiarity there. Um I’d be curious to see some of these teams kind of taking a look and poking around to see what Talbot’s availability is down the road. They may be doing it now but I think the sense I’m getting is well we don’t want to jump into anything too quickly but there are teams that are at least starting to make their lists a little bit longer. Okay. So let’s talk a little bit more about that because a team like Detroit in a bit of a wait andsee pattern. And I’ve mentioned it now a couple times on the show, but all but five teams in the NHL are 500 or better right now by points percentage. Like it’s just this massive bit of mush. The teams who we kind of view as legit cup contenders are cap strapped. They don’t have a lot of money. They’d have to do something, you know, similar like what the Leafs are doing where you got to move out pieces if you want to bring in pieces. is like it just feels like a really complicated trade market right now where like if the Leafs wanted to do something that’s not just a pure hockey trade where they’re going to another team that’s maybe sputtering and it’s a guy for a guy like who do they even have to deal with here? Like there doesn’t look like there’s that many sellers outside of like Calgary and Nashville. Yeah. And that’s why it’s twofold. That’s why a you know we’ve got so many conversations going on right now because everybody’s trying to just see what their options are. Um and and then B from the seller side, excuse me, from the seller side of things, um you know, teams want to want want to kind of have a gauge of what that marketplace is. It it works on both sides. If you’re buying, you want to know what the options are and what the costs are potentially going to be. And if you’re potentially selling, you you want to start to drive up a market. You want to start to drive up that price and drive up that interest and say, “We’re good now, but you know, let’s circle back in December. let’s circle back in January or before the Olympic break or something to that effect. And you know there are some teams with that Olympic break with that what is it 21 22 days 23 days whatever it is that there’s there’s that gap in in games. Um you know there are some teams that wouldn’t mind doesn’t mean they’ll they’ll do it because again we’ve got the trade deadline shortly after um when guys come back. But you there’s that that window where if the player is not going to the Olympics, you’ve got 3 weeks to acclimate yourself to your new surroundings. You’re not just being thrown into the fire into a new a brand new environment. You’ve got time to kind of ease into it. You don’t have to necessarily cancel your vacation if you’re not going to Olympics. You can still kind of, you know, breathe a little, meet your new teammates, the bulk of them, and then kind of, you know, go from there. So, there are teams that are looking at that as a as a potential window as well. um because it just makes that transition that much easier and cleaner because you’ve got that extra time off. So, I’m curious as to see, and this is going to be a later in the season thing, just where teams are at in that type of mentality from or excuse me, from that mindset. Um, but for the sellers out there or potential sellers, they want to know, you know, for Detroit, what options do we have with respect to potentially moving Camp Talbot or is it, you know, COP or Confer or Gustoson or, you know, and so on? Some names we already know that are out there. Um, but are we going to drive up that price um and and that interest and those interest levels later on? Dave, I I never think it’s too early. I know it’s November, but when we talk about the NHL and we talk about the coaching carousel, right? There’s obviously some guys on the hot seat this year. At what point do we start to that become a conversation where we’re going to see our first coaching change? Like what is the vibe you get? Obviously Nashville, I guess, is the team that kind of lights the board. Buffalo and then I I think Husk and Calgary has a bit more of a leash, you know, and obviously Jim Montgomery, they went out and did him like, you know, got him in St. Louis. He got them in the playoffs. But at what point are we sitting here being like, who’s the first coach to drop here? Yeah, it’s it’s I mean, you know, Lindy’s got Lindy Ruff has I believe it’s his last year of his contract, so there’s more flexibility there. Andrew Brunette has another year on his deal. His contract expires after next season. And then I think there’s there’s an option. I think it’s a team option, not a not an individual option. Um, but there’s one more year on that. Huska just signed his extension. U, Montgomery, as you said, was just brought in with a with a nice contract as well. Um, so some teams are being a little bit cognizant of that. how much, you know, these are guaranteed. They still pay them. Uh, so do we do we make that change now? Like from Nashville’s perspective, do we make that change and then Barry Trotz comes in um to take over to, you know, for for an extent and then you you re-evaluate in the offseason. For other teams, you kind of look at that as well. I don’t get the sense, you know, either Calgary or St. Louis are going to look to do anything in that regard. Minnesota as well. Um, you know, it’s it’s, you know, really Nashville because of the anti the the expectations that are there, but Nashville’s issues aren’t exclusive to what’s going on behind the bench. They their roster just isn’t where they thought it was going to be and and as deep as it’s going to be. I don’t get the sense that there are any teams right now that are just itching to make that type of move. It’s a difficult decision, first of all. Um, and there’s a lot that goes to it behind the scenes, but um, you know, I if if Nashville really starts to flounder here, then, you know, maybe there’s a little bit and you can’t trade everybody. Um, you know, and and some of those moves are going to be difficult. You got to at least show your team and your fan base you’re doing something. So, that might be more of a of a reasoning casualty of war scenario um than than anything right now. I kind of said with a few of those guys like if they wanted to get really crazy, you know, you talk about the Soroses and the Forsbergs. I said you kind of got to plug your nose and get through the year, right? Like how many teams right now even stamos to an extent? Although I know production’s way down there. What kind of impact would you have on a legit cup contender? That’s a legit question. But like isn’t the market for these high cap hits? be way stronger at the end of June or July when contenders have cap space versus right now like you know you could you could find someone who’ take Ryan O’Reilly maybe Jonathan Marsh so but these higher caps I think you just got to wait it out for the year don’t you? Yeah. Well, yeah. I mean, if if Nashville is not going to retain on anybody and you know, Stampos Marshes. So, I believe there is a for them to accept a move to a top tier contender. Um, but Nashville’s going to have to eat. There’s there’s a lot of there’s a lot that goes into it with both of these guys. And yeah, that, you know, everyone’s saying the right thing and and yes, they love Nashville and and excuse me and all that, but I just from a team perspective and from what Barry Trotz has to evaluate him and and Brian Po and everybody there just exactly how much they’re going to retain on on a contract is can we maximize a return in Stamos at a FER clip as opposed to are we willing to eat three million bucks off that AAV per and and that percentage of his of his salary for the duration of his contract with two more years leftario with who’s got another year on top of it. So he’s got three years left on his contract. How much longer do we want to do this and how much are we willing to to eat in order to facilitate these types of moves as we go through this little rebuild situation that has to be amplified. Remember Barry Trot said this last year when things weren’t, you know, going rolling out the gate. kind of spoke a little too freely and said, “Look, if it doesn’t work, we’ll just we’ll just rebuild. We’re going to have to.” He he said that partially tongue-in-cheek last year and then had to come out and say, “No, I didn’t. I mean, obviously, we want to move forward with these guys.” Well, now’s kind of the time where they’ve got to make those types of decisions. And for the big boys, it’s how much they’re going to retain. You know, O’Reilly, you mentioned, I don’t think there’s going to, you know, need to be that. I think that even they would argue when they’re having their trade discussions that you want him, you want, you’re getting him at full pop, but the other guys, those two other guys specifically, and SL, if they get, you know, those conversations going, you’re getting him at full pop. But the Stamp Coast and the Marshos, that’s where Nashville has to make a decision on how much they are willing to eat, and I don’t think they’re near that stage yet. Dave, appreciate your time. Thanks for popping on. You can find him at the fourth period and the DFO rundown insider edition weekly here on the daily faceoff YouTube. We’ll chat again next week. You got it, boys. Later, Huts. Let’s get to our daily faceoff inbox question # askdfo. We got a good one in here that I wanted to throw your way because it’s a goalie one and it is from Oh man, how did I just lose it? It was about Dustin Wolf. Um, and it’s a question of do you think they’re playing him too much this year? It was from D. White who said he’s on pace for 68 starts this year. Huts, he played 53 last year and yeah, he’s played started 15 of 18 this year for the Calgary Flames. Do you think they’re leaning on the kid too much? I do. I honestly truly do. And again, I I do think there is value. Last year was like kind of this run that he was on that was just unbelievable. But like Devin Koulie’s been good. He’s only been in five games. He’s got a 935 save percentage. He’s played well and it’s not nothing against Dustin Wolf. I still think he is the guy and it’s his crease, but it’s a condensed schedule and you don’t want to like burn this guy out confidence-wise, NHL-wise. So, I feel like spotting Koulie a few more starts here and there to give him a little bit of extra break and not just a break like mentally in fact to just have a practice where you can like slow things down and get back to work. So, I I do agree. I think it is a little too much for a guy early in his career. Yes, he’s capable of doing. Yes, he can. But sometimes you just have to protect guys from themselves. So I think it’s too many games right now on a losing team. Give them some protection and get in there a bit more. I love it. All right, let’s get to our daily bets for Bet365. Download the app today. Use the promo code nation. Whatever the moment, it’s never ordinary at bet365. I look at the screen, I see three guys who all lost their bets last night. Huts Chicago blowing it. You almost had it. I know. I had it. I you know, like the the Utah one I wasn’t worried about. Then the Hawks had to lead late. blow it and then Mark Sherman in overtime with a pass. Neck with a hat-tick. Just a stinger. That was Oh man, back to work today. Back to work today, boys. Yeah, let’s uh see if we can get things turned around here as as a group. Uh I’ll start things off shot prop parlay as I usually do. And I’m chasing some juice on this one. I usually don’t go up this high, but I’m looking at a couple of players. The first one is uh is Carter Goceier. Four plus shots. He’s hit this in 11 of 16 this year and four of his last five. I’m playing it with Shane Pinto to go three plus. He’s hit this 52 53% of the time so far this year. Three of his last five games. He’s off that extension. He’ll be in a good mood. It’s his birthday. He’ll be firing pucks. Plus 404 to play these two together. If I hit this, I’m so damn close to even money. So, I don’t mind taking a big swing today. Pat Puff, what do you got? Well, I originally only had one here. I had San Jose on the money line, but I saw the juice that Tyler was going for, and if he hits that, I’m going to be in trouble. So, I added Anaheim as well, and partially some of this was because of my intern. He brought this one up to me, and I really liked it. Anaheim 8-2 in their last 10. Detroit four- six in their last 10. San Jose’s almost halfway to the amount of wins they had last season. They’re rolling. Anaheim’s rolling. Both these as underdogs seemed pretty fun to me. So, I like that one tonight. Oh, the big dogs. E, the plus 400 crew. I I feel like a wuss now, but I’m I’m parlaying the San Jose Sharks money line against Calgary Flames and the Mlin Celibbrini point. I’m not being as greedy as you guys at plus 180, but it speaks for itself right now. I think Ascarov is on an absolute heater. In his last four games, he’s got a 963 save percentage. He’s been rock solid. So, I I I think that’s going to continue. And Celibbrini speaks for itself. He’s been unbelievable. Getting a point, I think, is a no problem for him in a win here for San Jose. Yeah. Um Calgary obviously struggling this season. And San Jose has been a fun team. I like that one. I also don’t mind just as the show went on, no Matthews, no Stallars tonight. The LA Kings are 71 and two as a road team this year. They’re like plus 180 on the puck line tonight. I might bet on things getting even worse in Toronto and taking the Kings tonight. Yeah, I I like that. Kick them when they’re down, too. Imagine we wake up tomorrow and the Leafs just get pounded tonight. Hild to be starting to. He’s played well, but again, he might be in over his head. So, there’s going to be trouble in Leaf Land. They drop another one tonight. Ty. Uh, garbage time to wrap up the show. A little bit of off ice news from the NHL yesterday. The podcast world was buzzing huts. Uh, the Kachchuck brothers going to be going the route of the Kelsey brothers and dropping their own podcast. I listen. Good for the growth of the game. The podcast is called Wingmen. Yes, sure. Good for the growth of the game. I’m surprised it’s taken this long for like a current NHLer to go into the podcasting world. The Kachchuck brothers. Obvious choices for it. Like it makes sense. The only thing that makes me a little bit nervous is that the NHL is promoting this. And to me, if the league is promoting it and it’s not just these two guys like going out on their own and kind of doing it, I’m worried we’re going to get a watered down product is all. Yeah. I I don’t know. I watched the preview. It felt a little cringeworthy. And I I don’t know. I I hope that it is organic and they can just have some funny stories and tell some behindthe-scenes stuff because I think it’s awesome. I think it’s a great platform. But I guess like what am I do? Is this a pod? People always ask me like, “Do you do a podcast?” I’m like, I don’t even know how to explain what I do. I We do a daily show. It’s informative. So, I hope it hits. I hope it works well. I just don’t know if those two guiding the ship is going to work out, but I I hope for the best. And I love that hockey players at least are stepping out from behind the curtain a little bit to show what’s going on. Yeah. Um, this show is available as a podcast every single day. Find it wherever you get your podcast from. Uh, I’m learning so much as we go. Eh, uh, we’ll be back tomorrow, Friday edition of the program, noon Eastern. See you then. Welcome to Daily Faceoff Live with Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton!

We kick off the show with breaking news out of Ottawa, where the Senators have locked up 25-year-old center Shane Pinto on a four-year, $30 million deal. The former second-round pick has stepped up in a big way, taking on more ice time and producing offensively in the absence of captain Brady Tkachuk.

Next up, it’s Pick ’Em! Which Western Conference bottom feeder should pull the trigger on a fire sale first — Nashville or Calgary? The guys debate who’s closer to tearing it all down.

Then, we continue our Olympic Team Breakdown series with Team Sweden. What are the strengths and weaknesses of the projected Swedish roster heading to Milan?

And finally, David Pagnotta from The Fourth Period stops by to talk about the disastrous start in Leaf Land, the goaltending market, and how contenders will have to navigate cap space and new salary retention rules as the trade deadline approaches.
