Liam Coen Recaps Loss to Texans | Jacksonville Jaguars
Yeah, I mean the reality is we gave up a 19-point lead to lose the game, you know, and um part of winning in the National Football League is sustaining a lead and uh we just needed one stop. Didn’t get one and uh you know against a tough defense was hard. Points were hard to come by. You score 29. However, the points come, you know, you feel like you’re going to have a chance to go win and didn’t get it done. offense got bogged down there in that fourth quarter. Did they did they change anything up to force those three and outs? Yeah, I mean we were down a couple linemen at one point. Uh, you know, Anton had to come out, Chuma’s in. Um, you know, we had Patrick McCary coming out. Uh, Mheim’s in. You know, we just didn’t execute extremely well, I don’t think, on that specifically that one drive backed up kind ofish when we punted it. um when we had the sack I believe on the third down. So that’s the number one defense in the National Football League and that’s the reality. And um points were definitely hard to come by especially in the second half and we got a lot of help from teams and a couple turnovers early but we weren’t able to go capitalize. Four of 11 on third down verse 10 of 15. um on defense in that fourth quarter. First glance, would you have liked to have camp make any different calls with how he played things? I mean, I was on the headset hearing him call, you know, when you blitz and you know, you’re a little susceptible in the back end when there’s you blitz and then when we form a rush, we’re not getting home. That’s the reality. And um that’s a hard place as any coach to be in and um and players as well at times. So, um, you know, we got to go watch the tape to see exactly every call, but I didn’t necessarily think there was, um, like we were putting these guys in really bad positions. You know, you’re kind of trying to hold on to a lead and make them earn it and, uh, we let up too many explosive plays. Go ahead, Mike. How much did not having, you know, Brian and the injuries on offense kind of impact the way you guys were trying to make or get anything going in the past game? Yeah, definitely. I’m sure it had some sort of an impact. Probably could have thrown it a little bit more. Um, shoot, we had an explosive play opportunity on the previous drive where we had Parker messed up on a linebacker and we have a run 39 runs right through the gap and we’re targeting him and on the protection and uh Trevor had to scramble down the left sideline on their sideline. We have Parker wide open for a huge play, massive play. um missed a couple of those opportunities which ended up uh adding up at the end. Tough loss, coach. Um but how good was it to see Parker Washington to continue to make plays? Yeah, I mean he just keeps doing it. We were trying to get him to rock uh multiple other ways. Man, there was a critical third down earlier uh in the second half where we had to settle for point, you know, three and and he’s wide open again. Ball gets batted down. He’s wide open. Cook the dude on a slant. Um he just keeps doing his thing. He’s helping us win every week and I appreciate him for that. Jakob Myers debut as well today, coach. You know, he made some contested catches in traffic, man. How was that just to see him just come out right away and get going? Great. Awesome. He’s going to keep helping us win, you know, helping us compete to win and uh was proud of the way he prepared this week. You mentioned the fourman rush not getting there. That’s sort of been a theme. How concerned are you going in these last games that it may not be fixable? Yeah. Um that’s something we we definitely need to talk about as a staff and as a group that um hasn’t been good enough all season and wasn’t good enough today. So um you know there’s a combination. It’s never one group’s fault when you lose a game. That’s that’s not what we’re going to do here. But um it definitely is is a challenge for us at the moment. Did you get an explanation on the Trayvon Walker sack? He had his arms out like he was trying not to put body weight on Mills. Did get any explanation? Any of the contact with the head. They’re going to call. You know, they’re going to call it. And they said that it was, you know, contact on the head. You know, I didn’t see the pass interference either that that brought him down inside the five yardd line or whatever when Jar makes the play on the ball or gets his head around or whatever it was. Um, I didn’t see, you know, they said that he might have had his wrist or something, but um, yeah, we’re just, we’re not going to get any of those. Was it shell shock in that locker room after this game? Yeah, definitely. Definitely some um, probably disbelief, you know? I mean, you’re like, you got a 19-point lead and you can’t hold on to it. And, uh, that’s disappointing, you know. That’s really disappointing against uh an indivision opponent on the road where you’re um controlling the game for the majority of it. Um with all three phases having an impact, but um you know, I don’t think we forced the punt in the second half, which was obviously hard when you’re where they’re trying to play catchup, they’re throwing it, and then when they were able to go and run it on that long last drive, they were able to run it. And um you know that was something that obviously hurt us. Uh it counts as one in the loss column. Uh how big of a challenge is it for you over these next couple days to make sure uh these guys can move on from this? Yeah, that’s going to be we’ll see. You know, that’s the whole message in the locker room just now was um this one’s going to sting and it should. Um but we’ve got to move on. We got a big home game coming up this week that um we’ve got to get back up for. We had great energy and juice at practice this week. Um it showed with the way that we started the game, but um we didn’t we weren’t able to sustain that for whatever reason in the second half. And um we’ll we’ll definitely have to challenge each other this week to to get back on track. Last one. Talk about the pass rush. What was what’s been the biggest issue that these the front four can’t get home without extra help? Um, you know, I think we had some opportunities today, right? We didn’t get them down, I think, a few times, right? Uh, had him wrapped up, didn’t get him down. You know, those are huge momentum plays. When you you have them and you can’t get them down, um, and he’s able to throw it away, it just gives him another down and and more life. you just keep the life in them and the whole message was to squeeze the life out of these guys in the second half and um go take it. Go take it. And um it’s been a frustration for a while now. Obviously the combination of uh lack of getting to the quarterback and when we do finishing it. But um it definitely needs to continue to get evaluated and and see who can help us do those things too. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you guys.

Unbelievable giving up a 19 point lead. This team hasn't really improved at all
Never sit on a lead! Our offense was so weak that it wore our defense down. We have found our β Identity β. PRETENDERS.β. Lots of holes to plug. We are turning Lawrence into Blain Gabbard.
I blame This lose on the defense and the offense line. They have to fight to the end. The game is not over until itβs over.
ππππππππππππππππππππππππππ Why do I even take time to watch this team. All it does is ruin my Sundays.
Hot seat, the team he put out this year sucks.
πππ
Forever a poverty franchiseπ
I was so impressed and proud of these guys for 3 quarters , and then just like always same
Old jags gave up big plays big penalties and stupid decisions , I love this team but god damn this type of game makes it so hard to believe , lost a 3 score lead in 10 minutes insane
Ainβt no recap to that . The Jaguars are consistently ____________
That roughing the passer penalty on Trevon Walker makes me not even wanna watch football anymore. The bs pi on jones as well.
Our defense lost this one for us. However, Iβm proud of this team. The 2nd half was a mess but we have a great group and great coaches.
They took their foot off the Texans neck. Allen can't get to the QB this whole season now. Soft in the middle of the D-Line. Safeties are not even mediocre. You can cover some of that up if you have a pass rush but we don't and there's no help coming. Both lines are the weak spot on this team. I said back before free agency and draft that if we didn't fix the depth on both lines it could easily derail our season if just a couple injuries happen. You saw it yesterday. The steep drop off of play when a backup come in on the O-Line is glaring. When Trevor has decent play from the line he plays better as any QB would. Still I can't keep defending him. He won't be here when the new stadium opens if he doesn't get better. That's the reality of it. This new front office didn't draft him.
everyone saying that we need a new qb: who do you want? like honestly! what qb can we realistically get that is going to do better than trevor? i know heβs not top 5 in the league or anything, but we have so much more to improve on in order to set up a qb to succeed. we havenβt lost a single game because of tlaw this year.
Trevor sucks o line sucks d line sucks db sucks rebuild time
Bench Trevor or do something!
Say what you want all the offense had to do was not lose the game. Defense gifted them half their points and you failed them by leaving them to fight by themselves in the fourth letβs call it like it is
Duval nope du-fail
Excuses…
Embarrassing and season ending loss.. this will be the game I will remember from this season. Same old jagsβ¦ donβt even feel bad or mad. Itβs just deserving to fail after a loss like that
When u gain only 2 to 50 yards I'm the second half and u virtually give the opponents a chance to win then ur offense needs work so ur defense ain't on the field the entire second half .this loss sucks .π’
This loss is on coen too he shouldn't of went for 2 1 point and you tie it
Trust fall and stealing fosters celly lit the fire. Yall not good enough to be disrespectful π
Can't wait till we trade Josh Hines Allen ποΈ ahh
I like how he ended that. We got to see who can help us. JHA and Trevor Lawrence your on turn for your second teams because your done here in Jacksonville
If they play badly this coming Sunday the deserve to get boo
This team is exactly where they need to be. Growing pains. Already won more games than last year. Not in a bad place although losing sucks. Liam Coen is going to be great
Going for 2 when we really didnt need it late in the 3rd, really swung the momentum the other way.
Yall complegave it away! No guts man and Trevor you still stinking it up. Team shooting themselves in the foot with penalties. This team knows how to professionally crush your hopes.
I still feel like we should press more. That half second makes a big difference
Funny how Texans got a lot of bs PI calls but when gags get them you guys cry
The irony as they head into a match up against a team they did the reverse to in the playoffs 2yrs ago
We need a new qb
Iβm sure heβs already doing it but maybe make the line get some individual work on working on stunts
