[Colorado Avalanche] More lumber more yards – Scott Wedgewood

  1. As much as I love Blackwood, I really think Wedgie has proven to be the better of the two. I know they can’t afford to keep two premium goalies forever, but getting even another year of the tandem is massive.

  2. This is good because the heir apparent has not been good in the KHL this year. 2.5 is honestly sort of a steal considering he’s playing comparably to guys like Shesterkin and Sorokin, and out playing guys like Otter and Gustavsson.

  3. $2.5m seems like a really good deal for the quality wedgie gives, hes really more of a 1aa than a backup at this point. You usually have to give more years to keep AAV lower, I figured he’d want more term for that amount money.

  4. I get Blackwood is working back from the injury, but is Wedgewood just the starter going forward at this point?

  5. Wish the contract was longer. We’ve been through hell with goalies 🙃 (yesss I’m hating on Fourgie)

  6. On top of being so good in net, he’s such a good locker room guy that letting him walk would have hurt the locker room

  7. Forgive me, it sounds cocky

He works that crease and opened my eyes.

Wedgewood tree, it ain’t hard to see

His saves are the key that opened my thighs.

…only my thighs though. He keeps that 5 hole tight.

  8. Love to see it. I thought for sure he’d take a starting job somewhere and get his bag the way he’s been playing.

  9. Scotty has said a few thing in interviews

He dislikes Wedgie as a nickname

He doesn’t want starter. He doesn’t feel like he can manage 50 games and play the way he wants to

His family is very happy in Denver, and they don’t want to move again

2.5 is his biggest contract ever, 2 years @1.5 each was previous high. He will be 35 when these expire.

If both parties agree, he could sign another 1 year, but I think a drop off is very likely before he’s 36.

Very fair all around, and also great family/life balance for him. I am happy with it

Thank goodness Stan Bowman can’t make moves like this, and sees Skinner as fine

  10. Good move for both sides. If the team views Nabokov as a long term answer, it buys more time for him to develop. For Wedgie, it gives him another year to play behind a legit powerhouse and boost his value if and when he hits free agency.

  11. I bet they were getting lots of phone calls from other teams hunting for a goalie. It was good to tie him up for a bit longer.
