Best passer rating on 3rd down this season. #1 Jalen Hurts 111.2

  1. Considering the Eagles are 27th in the NFL in 3rd down conversion rate I’m not sure how much this matters.

The Eagles are handing it off or throwing short of the sticks way too much on 3rd down.

  2. How can we go 3 and out more than any other team, and also have the best 3rd down qb. Seems like a cherry picked stat.

  3. That throw to Smitty on the right sideline late in the Packers games on third and long was a great throw. I know the focus of the offense has consistently been AJ not being involved enough, but a silver lining is that Jalen and Smitty have developed excellent chemistry this year

  4. This does not correlate to having the most 3 and outs. So this is one of those worthless statistics.

  5. Breaking news: the QBs who have the best passer ratings in the NFL overall also have the best passer ratings on 3rd down

  6. Passer rating is a horrible statistic. It’s basically meaningless because it doesn’t account for down, distance and field position. For example getting 20 yards on a 3 and 25 would lead to a higher passer rating that getting 15 yards and 3 and 14. That is why epa is the onlt statistic people should use. Hurts is 13th out of 32 epa/play on third down.

  7. Anyone else suprised to find out that Jalen has thrown on 3rd down over 50 times this season so far?

  8. Hurts consistently shows up when the moment is at its toughest. He doesn’t put up crazy big numbers while ahead, but leading a comeback or in a big game or when the drive depends on him, he gets it done.

I think that’s why Hurts is so divisive. It’s easy to not like him when the team is ahead, but it’s hard to not see his skill when the W is on the line.

As someone who remembers the McNabb years, winning the big game is what I want out of a quarterback. You can lose in the NFC championship only so many times before you stop caring about big numbers and just want the win.

  9. It would be even better if they could get to more 3rd and manageable. Well maybe not that may be part of it because they don’t get in a lot of third and shorts so they have to pass the ball. Unless they don’t.

  10. Tbh this is partly because we don’t let him throw on tough 3rd downs.

We are a bad 3rd down team hence why we have so many 3 and outs.

  11. And yet we call runs at a higher rate on third and long than any other team in the last 25 years

  12. But do the passes get the first down? Defenses will happily allow Jalen a 5 yard pass if he needs 12.

  13. This matches the eye test. Unfortunately we also run the ball at a ridiculously high rate. It’s seems like if it’s short or long, we run. Either to set up the QB sneak, or just give up.

But Jalen is one of the most careful passers in the NFL. I’d rather pass more on these third down and longs and invite some more risk, than just give up on the drive entirely.

  14. I mean yea, you’re rating will be way higher if you only throw it like 5 fucking times through the season. 5 completions and you’re perfect

  15. This stat means nothing when we see we’re one of the worst terms at converting third downs and we have so many 3 and outs

  16. We have passed 50+ times on 3rd down? I must have had a pee break on those third downs. lol.

  17. I am shocked by the number of people in the comments who think this is an empty stat because of the 3 and out rate. This is very telling of how often the coach chooses to run up the middle on third down instead of throwing it despite pretty consistent success when throwing it. Don’t we remember the Vikings game?

  18. Patullo will see this, think it’s like golf where the lower number is better, and stop throwing the ball period.

  19. Passer rating does not take fumbles or not even passing the ball into account, so take the rating with a grain of salt (Lamar’s passer rating is also high)

The 3 and out’s have been ridiculous

  20. Minimum 50 attempts, but the eagles have gone 38-of-109 on 3rd downs this season. So a lot of those are going to be “empty calorie” 3rd downs where he’s getting 12 yards on 3rd-and-22, for example

  21. Everyone is saying our poor 3 and out rate is due to the amount of times we run on third down, which may contribute to the discrepancy here, but imo it is more due to the fact that we get behind on the down and distance so frequently. If we it’s 3 and 9 or 3 and 10+ Hurts may indeed complete a pass but it will not equal a first down conversion.

  22. All the proof you need that Hurts is not the problem with this offense at all, it’s Patullo and the play calling

  23. When is the last time Hurts ran it in for a TD? We used to get those tuddies on the tush push practically every game
