Marcus Smart’s comments on being traded from Memphis

  1. So Smart, to be clear, showed up apparently injured and was “injured” in some capacity for most of his time in Memphis, fucking sucked when he was on the court, and then he’s healthy once he leaves Memphis.

I really hate being a fan of this team sometimes. I hate that dudes don’t want to be here and pull shit like this and act like victims later. It’s so fucking depressing, man.

  2. I’m telling you, a reckoning is coming. They completely mishandled the Adams injury, Brooks’ departure, and both ends of the Marcus Smart deal. Yes, it’s hard enough to entice talent to come to Memphis, but having a bunch of grouchy former players around the league bad mouthing you certainly won’t help matters.

  3. Listen he is a little right about the bench coaching, but like dude was fucking cooked on the court anytime he played. There was a reason the Celtics gave him up so readily tbh.

  4. if we trade for vets that don’t want to be here this is what happens. they tank their value, get traded, and then reinvigorate themselves in a large market. never be shocked when someone we trade is better in a new place. that’s how it’s gona be. if you want to win in a small boring market you draft A+ personality guys like Bane and Coward. your whole team has to be those type of guys.

  5. he was a good bench piece for us in the like 2 weeks he was healthy…

the acquisition was flawed from the start though

SPJ proved how easy it was to acquire that archetype of player

  6. We’re only two weeks into the season. Give it some time. He’ll be injured and cheerleading from the end of the Lakers bench before you know it.

  7. I liked Marcus in college watched his whole career. First time he set foot in memphis you could see 100% out of shape, and pissy qoutes about the Cs getting rid of him. Legit was fat .. and I say that because I know what smart looked like this isn’t a jokic/kenny where he’s just going to be bigger. That with his bullshit globetrotters basketball and acting like he was big time . Hated him here

  8. I’m really burned out by the league as a whole atp. The NBA community is a unique batch of spoiled man children who treat everything as beneath them the second they get paid. We have home grown stars that have stopped caring now that they’re paid (the jaren homeless quote was actually crazy and should’ve gotten way more heat). We can’t trade for vets because they refuse to take the franchise seriously. A jackass like parsons still goes around and brags about ripping off the FO and not caring.

It’s hard not to just be tired of it all. Worst pro sports league in America by a mile.

  9. It is a weird saga and just about everything that could go wrong, did go wrong with it.

Here is how I read it:

    – Brooks had been starting to be detrimental and we didn’t want to pay him.

    – We saw Smart as a huge upgrade with his defence, secondary passing and leadership. We overpaid for what we thought was the perfect package.

-Spent most of his time here injured and eventually we established Wells as the defensive wing in the starting line-up. SPJ also took over as the back-up PG.

    – We weren’t happy with paying for an injured bench player who didn’t have a clear position.

    Since he was traded out:

    – Wells regressed

    – SPJ was injured in the off-season

    – A starting position opened with the Bane trade

    – We filled the starting position with a worse defensive vet in KCP

    – He negotiated a team-friendly deal with the Lakers.

    Disaster.

  10. I’m gonna start posting this every time I hear someone complain about not trading for vets. Unless they’re in a contract year or coming off the scrap heap they aren’t gonna give their all
