Who is the MVP right now? | The NFL Today
and welcome to the NFL today on YouTube. JB along with coach Coward, Nate Berles, and Matt Ryan. The topic of discussion today, coach, it was just a couple years ago where many people seem to believe the narrative that running backs were being devalued. You said JB, don’t confuse that with the running game being devalued. It isn’t. Jonathan Taylor certainly is proof positive in that regard. Yeah, we talking about MVP. what he did today certainly is going to get his name back up there. Was shut down a little bit last week against Pittsburgh Steelers, but man, what he did today was pretty pretty impressive because it was an offense quite frankly, it was his big plays and Daniel Jones at times struggled, but Jonathan Ta Taylor, that run right there was designed to go up the middle. He broke it out to the outside. His patience, his acceleration, this one right here. No, right here. All of a sudden, it was inside. It’s a gain of zero. Look at it out here. He can keep his balance. His His balance is better than anybody I’ve ever seen. It’s just you try to trip him up. You can’t do that. He’s got great vision, the balance to be able to have jump cut little jump cut right to the inside. He is a special and he’s clutch. A game winner right there. Matt, you you played with him. Talk to us. Well, he’s I mean, he’s phenomenal and and he’s playing phenomenal. he as as productive and and as big of a superstar as he is, he’s as humble and as hardworking as anybody you’re ever going to come across. So, it couldn’t happen uh to a better person. But, I mean, he’s he’s playing outstanding. But, you look at, you know, you said it at the uh the beginning, the one running back systems becoming devalued, right? And we’ve seen more, hey, it’s a by committing two or three different guys. Yeah. Their stats today, Jonathan Taylor 32 rushing attempts. the next highest quarterback Daniel Jones at seven. Then Ashton Doulan who’s a wide receiver with one and one other player with one rushing attempt. Yeah, this is the focal point of what they do offensively. So, as we talk about MVP and the value provided to your football team, that’s it. I mean, he is providing the most valuable player. He is the value. Now, with that being said, I think there’s a handful of other guys. Don’t you do it. That are going that have to be in that class. Let me guess. You’re going to name some quarterbacks? Absolutely. I’m going to name some quarterbacks and you’re going to tell me I’m wrong. No, I’m not. No, you’re not. Because Matthew Stafford is out there balling. He is balling in LA putting together one of the most impressive statistical uh seasons of his career. Just went for over uh four for his 400th touchdown pass, which is an incredible accomplishment. He’s playing great football right now. Sam Darnold is as valuable to any football team as anyone right now, too. the way he’s moving that football around. JSN, the production that he has, it doesn’t get there without those opportunity balls. I I I think Sam’s in that mix. Drake May, Drake May, what you want to say? Because who does Drake May throwing to? I mean, Stefon Diggs, Boute didn’t play today. He does as much with his feet as much as he does with his arms and can and keeping drives alive. The first downs that he has with his feet over 25 first downs for the year. Drake May is is taking this team best record in the AFC. Yeah. Secondyear quarterback and you think about that offense. He’s the first guy that comes to mind. Yeah. So, we’ve given all our guys our flowers. I’m going to put you on the spot though. But I’ll start. Okay. If you had to rank them, okay, right now as we sit finishing up week 10, okay, ranking one, two, three, four of those four players for the at this point. At this point, I’m not saying this is how it shakes out. Honestly, I believe that what happens post Thanksgiving to the end of the regular season will determine who wins it. Like you said, it’s posturing. This time of the year is about posturing, getting in position. These guys are doing in the same in this race. But if it was week 10 and I had to give it out right now. The MVP for me, number one is Matthew Stafford, number two is Jonathan Taylor, number three is Drake May, and number four is Sam Darnold. Yeah, that’s a solid list. I can’t argue with that. For me, I’m switching the top two. I’m going with Jonathan Taylor, then my guy Matt Stafford, and then Sam Darnold. I’m going with Jonathan Taylor because he reminds me of a season that I was witnessed to in 2006, and that’s Leenian Thomasson. So, right now, he has four games with three rushing TDs. The record in the season is five games with three rushing TDs. That happened back in ‘ 06. That was Leenian Thomasson, and he won the MVP that year. I remember playing on the Seattle Seahawks and we had Sean Alexander who was the previous MVP and Leenian came in to prove that I’m the best back in the business. We’re talking 20 plus touchdowns now. Leanian was a little bit of a better catcher out of the back field. That’s because they used him as such. But Jonathan Taylor sitting at 17 touchdowns, almost 1,400 total yards and we’re at the halfway point. We’re talking about a guy that can get close to 25 26 TDs if they keep this up. And we all know when you get into late November, December, you are going to have to lean on what they’re already leaning on, which is the run game. And I’m going to say that I agree with Nate. So, and I was just say because I would flip those two for this reason. Go back to a week ago. What? The Pittsburgh Steelers say, “We better stop Jonathan Taylor.” And they did. And they did. And they won. Okay. So, you going into every game with people saying, “We got to stop Jonathan Taylor.” Ooh. And not many people have done it. He’s putting up some numbers right now that are big time. He did that again today. So, I’m just saying to you, Jonathan Terry, from a value standpoint, if you take him away, they can’t win. And they didn’t win a week ago. Take away Matthew Stafford from the LA Rams. Yeah. What do they look like? I hear you on that. I know. Huh. I don’t know. What do they look like? Well, you take away Drake Mayor Sam Darnold. It’s the same thing with all the quarterbacks. Oh, okay. So, feel like that’s a valid argument. Okay. I think though, let’s have a little healthy perspective here. Probably two weeks ago or three weeks ago, whenever we started having this conversation, Baker Mayfield was in there. That’s true. Daniel Jones was in there and they’re no longer in that conversation. Let’s let this play out. I think all four of these guys that we’ve talked about are having fantastic seasons. Fantastic season. And there’s two other guys that’s called Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes. They might have something. They have a way to find themselves to shine in a month of November and December. Hey, let me throw something crazy out there. Say Lamar Jackson gets them on a run to come all the way back in after the start that they have and just goes off in the month of November and the month of December. And he’s no stranger to a four touchdown pass game, a five touchdown pass game. And to use the other argument, we saw what they’re like without him. Correct. They’ve won three in a row now. And if they go on this run, okay, we saw we have a body of work without him and a body of work with him and it’s proven right there. Shout out to Snoop Huntley though. He got that one win. He did. So shout out. That’s right. So Matt, you won the MVP in 2016. Yes. And there was a running back in the conversation that year. Do you remember? Uh I was worried about winning games, Nate. No. No, bro. Time out. Time out. Hey, no. Dallas. Okay. Dallas. Zeke Elliot. Okay. Now, I’m glad you brought that up cuz I know you’re joking around, but listen, you’re you’re a humble guy. It’s all about the team. We want to win games, but once they start talking about the MVP, keep it real with me. Were you thinking about it? Because it’s it is a beautiful accomplishment if you can do it while still winning. Uh, no, I wasn’t thinking about it. Honestly, I wasn’t thinking about it. I I you know, I think you have to put that season into context, too. So, we were seven and five through 12 games and and we got hot late. We ended up winning four games in a row, but down in that four game stretch uh as we were finishing up that season, we were without Muhammad Senu, we were without Julio Jones. Both those guys nursing injuries during that time frame. So to me, more important than anything was finding a way to get to the playoffs. We had guys out. We had to find ways to win football games. Now, I will tell you one of the coolest things that I ever experienced in my life was in the NFC Championship game. We ran away with it. Yeah, we ran away with this game against Green Bay. And for the entire fourth quarter, every time we got on offense, the entire stadium started chanting MVP every time I stepped on. I had to feel good, brother. And it was a chills moment. It was one of the things as you’re playing a game, the game was was out of hand at that point. And and the, you know, skin raises up. And you know what? That speaks volumes about you because you did it without your stars. You felt the onus and the obligation and responsibility to take it upon yourself. And what whatever whatever that meant was getting that football team to the playoffs. Yeah. you know, and that’s what your your mantra was at the time and you did it. But that’s the value portion of it, right? The value you provide to the organization, you know, when when other guys are out and I think all four of these guys that we are ifric dictated and Jonathan Taylor continues on the same stretch, will the quarterback bias not swing the vote his way down the stretch? I think it has to be record setting. Yeah. Yeah. I think it has to be record setting and he’s on pace to do that. So when we look at the totality of the season and his numbers and all of those things at the end of the year, if they are what they can be, I think he’s got a great chance. They got to keep winning. Absolutely. Got to keep winning. And and I have the perfect way to close this out. JB, just to remind uh Matt of the good times. Hey. Hey, Studio. Can we get an MVP chant in here for Matt? MVP. MVP. MVP. All right. Hey, there’s a few that didn’t chant, so I I see him. I see him right over there. Don’t give him any holiday gift. Vita Vita. Yeah, VA show. Matt Ryan is a humble guy, but don’t tell me it wasn’t in the back of the house as he was going there. Hey, tune in 12 noon Eastern on Sundays right here on the NFL today.

Stafford is the only correct answer
Johnathan Taylor would be my vote right now
If Matthew Stafford beats the Seahawks next week he is hands down no doubt the MVP
It’s going to be Josh Allen. He’s the best player in the nfl no doubt. Ruff game yesterday though
Sam Darnold by farrrrr!!!!!
The Ravens blew out the Bears with Huntley
The Stafford disrespect is insane. If Lamar, Allen, or Mahomes had Staffords numbers right now they would be a lock for MVP.
Mathew Stafford stop being clowns 🤡 😒
Your mom is the real mvp
Stafford and maye are the two front runners by FAR
Two-headed monster Gibbs/Montgomery
6:30 makes me laugh as a Rams fan cause Matthew Stafford just did it twice back to back seasons before this crazy season starting 1-4 and 3-6 then coming out the bye going insane ending in 10 win seasons making the Playoffs and not even top 5 in MVP convo so I don't want to hear that shit about Lamar 🤣
JT is the front runner for me but knowing this is a QB award, give me Stafford
Stafford = MVP
Without Stafford rams wouldn't make the playoffs
JT is balling but this is a QB award tbh. Stanford is doing great yes but he also has 2 of the top 5 receivers in the league to throw to. Could you imagine what Drake could do with that talent??? I mean seriously this isn’t a debate at all. Drake “Drake Maye” Maye is the MVP
It’s become a QB award so Stafford is the front runner right now. Offensive player of the year is Jonathan Taylor by a mile right now.
Nate Burleson is a piece of Filth that should be fired immediately
Nah Daddy Drake Is MVP
I see a lot of Rams fans saying “Stafford without question” or “Stafford 100%.” I would look at that statement again long and hard. There definitely is a question. We see great QB seasons every other or every year. That’s why qbs always win it. 25tds and 2 picks is impressive, but not unprecedented. QBs have great seasons all the time. On the flip side, this rb season by Jonathan Taylor is very close to unprecedented. The pace Jonathan Taylor is at has only ever been done once before, and that was the greatest season by a running back ever. If he can pull this thing off, the MVP is his to lose
JT is breaking franchise and NFL records every week. He's leading the NFL in numerous categories. It's the only logical choice.
Drake maye
It’s Drake Maye. Coming into the year people made fun of the patriots weapons and position players. Everyone thought Diggs was washed and overpaid. They a bunch of WR4’s with Boutte, Hollis, pop Douglas, etc.
Stevenson was the starting RB with a rookie RB as the RB2.
Hunter Henry at TE. He is solid, but in nobodies top 10 TE’s.
Now all of a sudden he’s surrounded by talent? When did Boutte and Diggs become Chase and Higgins or Puka and Adams? On top of that he has a bad o-line that has allowed 25 sacked in 10 games.
He has more all purpose yards than Stafford, 2555 yards vs. 2427. If you want to make a case for JT, I can get with that. There’s no way Stafford is the MVP over Maye though.
Let's give some well-deserved love to the old man, Matt Stafford! 😂
Drake maye
Yall lost the plot.. Stafford MVP and it ain’t close
MATTHEW STAFFORD IS MVP
Stanford for MVP
Jonathan Taylor
1) Matthew Stafford
2) Johnathan Taylor
After that, it doesn't really matter. These two are playing the very best at their respective positions and no one else is even close. It's going to be really intertesting if JT breaks the TD record with 30 and Stafford posts something absurd like 45/4.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba is on pace to be the first wr to get 2k I think ppl should be talking about him
